4. The Killers - Somebody Told Me#2, 17 weeks on chart CHART RUN: (Debut: 12th December 2004) 28-14-12-12- 7-3-*2*-3-3-5-5-8-12-17-24-33-37 Breaking my back just to know your name Seventeen tracks and I've had it with this game I'm breaking my back just to know your name But heaven ain't close in a place like this Anything goes but don't blink you might miss Cause heaven ain't close in a place like this I said heaven ain't close in a place like this Bring it back down, bring it back down tonight Never thought I'd let a rumor ruin my moonlight
Well somebody told me You had a boyfriend Who looked like a girlfriend That I had in February of last year It's not confidential I've got potential
This was the debut single from the Killers back in early 2004, I didn't take much notice of it 1st time out and it reached a disappointing #16 in March. Second single "Mr. Brightside" (a.k.a. one of the greatest records I've heard this decade) got me into their music big time. I bought "Hot Fuss" in the summer and the re-release at the end of 2004 got much more attention, with "Somebody Told Me" peaking at #2 in January this year and spending 17 weeks on the chart. Here's to hopefully another great album from them next year.

3. Green Day - Boulevard Of Broken Dreams#1, 15 weeks on chart CHART RUN: (Debut: 12th December 2004) 14- 7-5-2-*1*-1-1-2-4-7-14-22-26-34-38 My shadow's the only one that walks beside me My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me 'Til then I walk alone
This is the highest entry for an international artist; the 4th of an amazing 4 Top 100 entries for Green Day, and was the 2nd single and IMO finest moment from comeback mainstream album "American Idiot". It spent 3 weeks in pole position on my chart back in January/February, and almost did the same on the HOT 100, peaking at #2. An interesting fact is that this song uses the same guitar chords as Oasis' "Wonderwall".

Augh, that's so beautiful. STM #4? It can't get much better can it? I mean, what band could create such synth 80's revival magic like The Killers did with that one.
BOBD #3 is no news story like STM #4 is. Bravo.

2. Coldplay - Speed Of Sound#1, 15 weeks on chart CHART RUN: (Debut: 1st May 2005) 12- 2-*1*-1-1-1-2-2-3-5-11-17-21-24-34 How long before I get in? Before it starts, before I begin? How long before you decide? Before I know what it feels like? Where do, where do I go? If you never tried, then you'll never know. How long do I have to climb, Up on this side of this mountain of mine?
At #2 its Clocks Part II or "Speed Of Sound" as it is otherwise known. It's an excellent song that could have easily become the bands first U.K. #1, if it wasn't for that F**KING CRAZY FROG Anyway, really loved this for a period during Spring where it spent 4 weeks at #1. It reminds me of warm sunny lazy days ;D,but also revising for my exams. [ Stand by for the NUMBER 1 which will be revealed later tonight. First though here are some bands and forthcoming albums that I think may be big in 2006: Nelly FurtadoWorking Title: Loose Due: Spring 2006 Finished Tracks: Promiscuous Girl, No Hay Igual, All Good Things Come to an End (f/ Chris Martin) The pint-sized Canadian has been away for a while now since 2003's "Folklaw", and for this new album expected in the Spring she's called in the help of hip hop producer Timbaland and Pharrell Williams. Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not Due: January 30, 2006 The most talked about record for some time, will the 13-track debut album live up to the hype surrounding it and excellent debut single "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor".. No escaping this lot next year, big things await the four-piece indie rock band from Sheffield in 2006! "Mardy Bum" indeed. ;D Boy Kill BoyLondon quartet Boy Kill Boy are making waves at the moment ahead of their debut single "Back Again" in February 2006. They're a bit like Hard-Fi, except with cheap keyboards and expensive haircuts.. I really like they're new single though, def. worth a listen. GuillemotsGuillemots actually look like Penguins but are able to fly, they're also a British Indie band signed to Polydor and are looking likely to stir things up in 2006. They've already charted on my personal chart recently with "Made Up Love Song #43" (which I really like) and look likely to do so again soon with new single "Trains To Brazil". Hopefully they'll do well next year! The KillersWorking Title: TBA Expected: August Finished Tracks: Uncle Johnny Did Cocaine, Higher And Higher They've certainly earned a break after the huge debut album, 2004's "Hot Fuss". Ever-ambitious Flowers is aiming for a U2-sized epic this time around with album no.2 which is expected this coming summer, and what a summer it will be! They've had to scrap track "Where Is She" about murdered Scottish schoolgirl Jodi Jones after many saw this as an insult to her memory. All I can say is, can't wait! ;D KeaneWorking Title: TBA Expected: May Finished Tracks: Crystal Ball, The Night Sky 2004's "Hopes and Fears" was one of my favourite albums that year, and it brought huge success to the East Sussex based band winning them numerous awards, debuting at #1, selling over a million copies and becoming the 2nd biggest selling album of the year. Lead vocalist Tom Chaplin describes it as "claustrophobic and atmospheric. It's not what people will be expecting".

Great to see Coldplay at #2. I like the way you called it "Clocks Part II" - sometimes I can't tell "Clocks" and "Speed Of Sound" apart from each other!

Awesome to see Coldplay at #2.
And lovely spotlight on the Killers. Apparently, they wrote and recorded the "perfect pop song"
I'm so excited it hurts.

1. James Blunt - You're Beautiful#1, 20 weeks on chart CHART RUN: (Debut: 5th June 2005) 24-11- 7-4-*1*-2-1-1-1-1-1-3-5-7-10-17-22-26-26-32 My life is brilliant. My love is pure. I saw an angel. Of that I'm sure. She smiled at me on the subway. She was with another man. But I won't lose no sleep on that, 'Cause I've got a plan.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful. You're beautiful, it's true. I saw you face in a crowded place, And I don't know what to do, 'Cause I'll never be with you.
Yeah, she caught my eye, As we walked on by. She could see from my face that I was, F**king high, And I don't think that I'll see her again, But we shared a moment that will last till the end.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful. You're beautiful, it's true. I saw you face in a crowded place, And I don't know what to do, 'Cause I'll never be with you. You're beautiful. You're beautiful. You're beautiful, it's true. There must be an angel with a smile on her face, When she thought up that I should be with you. But it's time to face the truth, I will never be with you.
This is my number 1 of 2005 then, spending 6 non-consecutive weeks at #1 during the summer. I really got in to this track when I first heard it back in May, and was disappointed to see it debut at #12 on the U.K. single chart- however it went on to become the 4th biggest selling single of the year and really helped him to break through and establish himself as a popular mainstream artist. The album "Back To Bedlam" sold 2 million copies here to become the biggest album of the year, even bigger than Coldplay's third "X&Y"! "You're Beautiful" is an amazingly beautiful and moving ballad, that describes the feeling that will be familiar to many. When a guy has a crush on a perfect girl, you can't stop thinking about her, but you know that she's way out of your league and that no matter how many or what plans you formulate to get with her ("She was with another man. But I won't lose no sleep on that, 'Cause I've got a plan."), it's never gonna happen. I guess that's why I really like the song and can relate to its powerful and emotional lyrics. This song comes to grips with the reality of the situation, for instance "I was f**king high" sums up the raw feelings really well. Corny in a way yes so if you can't relate to it then you'll probably not see the fuss, but utterly brilliant in another way I think. Anyway it's my #1 and deservedly so IMO. Thank you for following my chart and posting comments over the past 4 weeks, hopefully my selections haven't been too bad and that you've enjoyed reading it. I'll just take this oppertunity to wish you all a happy New Year!

Great top 2! Coldplay's SOS is a catchy tune, and James's song is brilliant! Also looking forward to Nelly's album next year. GREAT CHART!
