Hi there, over the next few weeks in the run-up to 2006 I will be posting my Top 100 singles of 2005 as worked out from my personal chart (The UK Hot 40). I haven't finalised the chart just yet but hope to get underway by the end of the week.
Before I countdown the Top 100 singles, I'm going to countdown my favourite 10 albums of 2005 starting now with #10-#6!
Top 10 Albums of 2005
10. Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway
Having not been particuarly swept away by 2003's effort, "Thankful", I was reluctant to listen to this at first- however when first hearing 1st single, "Since U Been Gone" in the summer I instantly wanted to hear more!
This album is a great example of everything a good pop album should be, full of solid rock-pop songs sung by an amazing voice. (She's also hot, which helps I guess! ) Anyway it truly deserved the success it got internationally helping her to breakaway from the Pop Idol image.
9. The Bravery - The Bravery
I first heard and really liked "An Honest Mistake" back in March, and bought the debut album from the New Yorkers on the strength of that single alone. The sound is similar to the Killers and draws on influences from the 1980s. Along with thumping base lines and great guitar licks, this makes for a very good album. Unfortunately not doing as well as the Killers debut (which was my #1 album of 2004) however as there are 8 albums I liked more this year.
8. Hard-Fi - Stars Of CCTV
Another new artist then at #8, the debut from Surrey based indie rockers Hard-Fi, and what a debut! Simply a great album, with the classics, "Hard To Beat", "Living For The Weekend" and "Cash Machine".
7. Stereophonics - Language. Sex. Violence. Other?
This album saw the welsh rock group return to form, and is full of great singles. "Dakota" is especially good and was the 1st single to be released from it. It will definately feature highly in my Top 100 of 2005.
6. The Arcade Fire - Funeral
The debut album from Canadian five-piece The Arcade Fire, was apparently written at a time when close family members of some in the band had passed away. The album is therefore very poignant, but also brilliant!
