25) "When I Come Around" - Green DaySome things are not explainable, and my connection with this song is one of them. Despite not remembering much of my childhood, I remember my nightmarish summer vacation of 1996 very clearly, and for whatever reason this '90s classic is part of it (my dad always listened to rock radio). There has never been a time where it wouldn't have made a list like this for me. Can those riffs be any better? And any more '90s? 24) "Who's Going Home With You Tonight?" - TraptIf there is one song that I will always associate with my senior year of high school, it's this one. An underrated rock jam that spent 7 weeks at #1 on my chart, this power ballad is in my opinion Trapt's best song. The bridge is unique and has some pop sensibilities. I wish more people would have paid attention to this song; it's among the most underrated of the '00s if you ask me. 23) "Soul To Squeeze" - Red Hot Chili PeppersNow it's time for the higher of the two Chilis tunes on my top 100. While dismissed by some critics and fans as "Under The Bridge Part II," this 1993 hit is far-and-away my favorite song from these guys. It's a very relaxing song, with its chill guitars, lyrics and vocals. Few things are as fun to listen to as that guitar solo. It's a great one to listen to while walking on a quiet day with nothing to do. Certainly a go-to song for me. 22) "Far Away" - NickelbackDespite ranking so high, I hardly ever listen to this one nowadays. It really only serves one purpose, which is as a flashback track. If the song at #24 defined my senior year, this one defined my high school years as a whole. It was big in the fall of 2006, when I starting at a brand new school that had just opened. It was a unique opportunity for me as a 15 year-old, and as corny as it sounds this song brings back a lot of memories from that time period that I otherwise would never remember. I guess that's the power of music, right? This song had a huge impact on me and will always have a spot on my favorites list. 21) "Battery" - MetallicaBecause sometimes you just feel like laying the SMACKETH down on somebody. A fixture of my "heat wave" playlists, it always gets more play from me during the summertime. My favorite from the legendary Master Of Puppets album, it offers complex guitars, relentless drums and a brooding bass-line with aggressive lyrics delivered perfectly by James Hetfield. Lunacy has found me, indeed.

Love When I Come Around and Far Away. That's probably my favourite Nickelback song although Someday makes a strong case too. Soul To Squeeze is also great.

I like Green Day, Trapt, Nickelback and Metallica here, would you believe? I've never been able to stand the Red Hot Chili Peppers music though.

I'm the only human being on the planet who doesn't like "When I Come Around", but the rest are great.

20) "Blurry" - Puddle Of MuddNow it's time for one of the biggest crossover hits from an era that I truly love. "Blurry" tore up the airwaves in 2002, and with good reason. With great production, solid vocals, meaningful lyrics and a memorable chorus, this one was bound to be a big hit from the minute it was released. It has consistantly been a favorite of mine since discovering it in 2004, and after perhaps thousands of listens I still refuse to tire of it. It's just great blue collar rock music. Can you take it all away? 19) "Shimmer" - FuelBreak-ups are perhaps the most common theme in songwriting, meaning that a lot of forgettable songs are written about the topic. The 1998 debut hit for Fuel is not one to forget. The song, written about divorce, leads up to the undeniably catchy "too far away for me to hold" line. I grew up hearing this on rock stations and firmly believe that it deserved more crossover success, even though it was during a time period loaded with good music. It's definitely a go-to of mine on cool, rainy nights. 18) "Lightning Crashes" - LiveI went through phases where my favorite songs by Live were "Selling The Drama," "All Over You," "Heaven" and even "The River," but at the end of the day I have come back around to this as my favorite from the Pennsylvania-based rockers. I got into this 1995 crossover hit a decade after it was big, in the spring of 2005. To me the song has a lot to do with the circle of life, dying and how it is impossible to understand all of it. This is the type of song you just don't hear nowadays. 17) "Once Again" - Days Of The NewTravis Meeks' project Days Of The New has done a lot of songs that I dig, but none more than this one. With some very intricate acoustic guitar work, "Once Again" has a great nighttime feel. The lyrics, to me at least, tell a story of psychological abuse, or being used, which is something I have been able to relate to in recent times. Meeks delivers perfectly on the vocal end and the song is very catchy overall. 16) "Deep Inside Of You" - Third Eye BlindThe higher of the two 3EB placings comes in at #16. While certainly not among their most well-known singles, I was lucky enough to grow up listening to a Hot AC station that occasionally played this (not to mention Casey Kasem playing it as a flashback track). It's ranked as my favorite from the band for quite some time. There's something very soothing about it that I like. To me the song represents a longing to be with someone you used to be with, or never were with at all. It always confused me why this was such a minor hit.

How dare you put "Blurry" on here and not anything on the iconic "Stuck" EP. GOD. In all seriousness those are all great songs except the Days Of The New song I don't know. "Shimmer" is one of my all-time faves too! Which reminds me I need to update my list.

You know I hate "Blurry" so let's not go there. Love Fuel and Live, I don't remember the 3EB song off by heart but I'm sure I'd like it if I heard it.

Thanks for all the comments, guys. You had me cracking up with rock and rool stuff. Now it's onto the final stretch of songs before the big top ten... 15) "Cult Of Personality" - Living ColourLook in my eyes...what do you see? These were the lyrics in my signature when I first signed up for this forum. With some of the best guitar work I have ever heard (including that amazing solo), this song brings you perfectly-delivered lyrics about personality cults. Political rock doesn't get much more fun than this. It's certainly one that needs to be listen at high volume levels. Pipa once famously stated that this song was better than the entire career of Dave Matthews Band, and he was absolutely right. 14) "Fields Of Gold" - StingI discovered this song in 2004, when it was a popular gold track on Hot AC stations, and for an entire decade I thought of it as boring. But ever since last fall, I have really changed my opinion on this song and now I really love it. I would consider this one of the saddest and best songs I have ever heard. The lyrics can be interpreted in many different ways, which of course is entirely up to the listeners. The musical elements fit the song perfectly and Sting is the ideal vocalist for a song like this. I feel like the video perfectly captures the idea of a man being physically in the present, but mentally and emotionally in the past. 13) "Still Not A Player" - Big Pun featuring JoeThose of you who listened to my '90s @ 9 show back in 2013 might not be surprised by this entry. Coming in at #13, "Still Not A Player" is the highest-ranking non-rock song on my countdown. The smash hit from 1998 is as fun as it gets. With a catchy chorus, memorable verses and fun lyrics, this is a rare track where I actually prefer the clean version. Considered a staple of '90s hip hop and hip hop in general, Big Pun's signature hit will carry on his legacy for a long time. 12) "Follow You Down" - Gin BlossomsI discovered this hit from the spring of 1996 in the spring of 2004, and it rather quickly became my #1 favorite song of all-time. All these years later, and it still ranks up here in the top dozen. With a catchy harmonica, radio-friendly guitars and catchy vocals, the lyrics put it over the top. I simply can never see myself tiring of such a great song that really captures what in my mind the most under-appreciated side of the '90s: the lighter rock bands. Despite becoming more of a hard rock fan over time, I would still rather listen to this than anything by Soundgarden or STP. 11) "Found Out About You" - Gin BlossomsThe highest of the three Gin Blossoms placings comes in right ahead of "Follow You Down" and right outside of the top 10. There are some songs that just about always sound good, and always feel fresh and enjoyable no matter how many times you listen to them over the years. This chart-topper from 1994 is one of them. An amazing night-time jam, it is another one that I discovered in 2004. I would say that while "Hey Jealousy" ranks a lot lower than it would have a decade ago, this one ranks much higher. I have grown in appreciation of its airy, soothing guitar style. I guess you could call it a vibe record. I've also been able to relate to the lyrics more as an adult that I could as a teenager.
