I've been teasing this for awhile, and now it's time to get it started: the list of my top 100 favorite songs of all-time! I've spent a lot of time finding, remembering, brainstorming and ranking the songs for this list. I chose 100 because I wanted it to be a long countdown while still maintaining an 'elite' feel (I've always valued smaller countdowns). Many songs that I love and like will be left off this list because they just didn't make the cut. Also, no single artist has more than a handful of songs ranking inside my top 100. These are truly my favorite songs of all-time and this might be the most KP thing you ever see.
As JessieLou suggested, I will be doing commentary for each song. I won't be doing a guessing game because I'm not good at making clues and I personally don't like that format. I'll be posting these in increments of 5 until I get to the top 10, where I'll post them one-by-one, a tactic I learned from FreakyFlyBry. All song titles will link to the song so you can listen if you want to. With all of that being said, let's get started!
100) "Let Me Out" - Future Leaders Of The World
Kicking things off is this long-forgotten rock hit from 2005, the debut single for Future Leaders Of The World. I discovered this song a couple of years ago and have dug it ever since. It features vocals that are clearly inspired by the likes of Kurt Cobain and Billy Corgan, and has the type of raw emotion that is generally associated with '90s rock.
99) "Timber" - Pitbull featuring Ke$ha
Just a couple short years after I was still denouncing both of these artists, this duo forever entered my good graces with this infectious pop jam that was huge during the early part of last year. While many people grew tired of this song due to burnout, it never happened with me and I'm still jamming to it a year and a half later. This song is significant for being the last big dance hit in the USA.
98) "Touch Too Much" - AC/DC
While certainly not the most popular song off AC/DC's classic album Highway To Hell, this song has been my favorite from the band since discovering it several years ago. This is what you listen to while riding around in the middle of the night...it doesn't get much more rock n roll than that.
97) "Miles Away" - Winger
Can you smell the cheese? I don't care how corny this hair metal classic is; I think it's a legitamately heartfelt song that everyone can relate to at one point or another. Whether it's a breakup or unrequited love, this song surely hits a nerve for a lot of people. Very few songs make me want to break out and sing like this one. Just a straight-up rock power ballad, which your boy KP can never go wrong with.
96) "Smooth" - Santana featuring Rob Thomas
In 1999, a lot of Latino artists were tearing up the U.S. pop charts, providing the perfect timing for the legendary Carlos Santana to make a comeback. Santana came back with one of the hottest frontman of the late '90s, Matchbox 20's Rob Thomas, and delivered what is now recognized as one of the biggest hits of all-time. With one of the most recognizeable guitar riffs of all-time and some nifty vocals, I enjoyed it as a child and still jam to it all these years later. I also think the video perfectly captured the song, and that Rob played the role of confused but cool white boy very well.
