Candlebox, Sugar Ray and Spin Doctors are all excellent, reminders of how great the 90's were! Creed's song was good too.

Don't know #50, but the rest is a great set of 90s alt/rock!

Save Tonight and What It's Like are both great. I also strongly like Far Behind and Every Morning. And then there's Two Princes which is just amazing and is up in my top twenty of all time.

45) "The Freshmen" - The Verve PipeThe 1990s were a decade full of songs with heavy themes, and abortion proved to be one of them. This emotional hit from 1997 tells a tale of regret, sadness and confusion over an abortion and implied suicide. Perhaps my favorite part of the song are the haunting riffs that are not present in the "light" remix featured on many Hot AC stations throughout the years. 44) "Sad But True" - MetallicaA five and a half minute ass kicking of a song, it simply doesn't get any more bad ass than this. If there was to be a song playing while I walk, it would be this one. With one of the heaviest and greatest riffs of all-time, this would be great even without the kick ass lyrics and vocals. This is what rock and metal are all about, and if you don't get pumped up from hearing this you might be as good as dead. 43) "River Of Deceit" - Mad SeasonI'd be hard-pressed to name you a song more soothing and relaxing than this one. This has always been a go-to of mine on cool, cloudy days. What it's about is up to you (something Layne Staley was happy to point out to people about everything that he wrote) but one thing is for sure...the only direction we flow is down. 42) "Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom-Lay Boom)I have previously referred to this song as an adrenaline rush to the soul, and there is really no better way to describe it. With crunching drums, hard-hitting riffs, meaningful lyrics and powerful vocals, this is a song that makes me proud to be a rock fan. It served as an anthem for me when I started community college and I really related to the lyric "the story is just beginning." Great tune here. 41) "Happy?" - MudvaynePipa can tell you about a time when I had no clue about Mudvayne, but those times were long ago. For the past several years, this song has been an absolute jam for me. With some unique lyrics such as "tear meat from the bone," it's no wonder why this spent double-digit weeks on top of the active rock chart. My favorite part would have to be the bridge. I love the way the vocals sound against the one occurrence of lighter guitars.

Hoooooly crap, The Freshmen! Mega love for that song, to the point where it was in the top five last time I made an all-time list and would certainly still be at least top ten. Fantastic choice. Diamond Eyes is pretty cool too.

Diamond Eyes is pretty cool too. It was as high as #2 for me back in middle school, so I can certainly understand you loving it so much. The bridge is impossible to ignore. Love every song in that set. "Happy?" remains one of my heaviest personal chart hits. That's good to hear. All this time, I thought you disliked "Diamond Eyes" from Shinedown.

40) "Round Here" - Counting CrowsWhile it was "Mr. Jones" that proved to be the band's breakthrough hit, this follow-up has long been my favorite Counting Crows song. My earliest memories are from the fall of 1994, when I moved into my house. That was right around the period was this song was getting a lot of radio play, and my mom liked this song, so it kind of indirectly reminds me of those memories. It also reminded me of deserts long before I saw the desert-themed video. 39) "Ghost Of Days Gone By" - Alter BridgeWhen I did my year-end chart for 2011, I said this song is what music is all about. I still feel the same way now. Beginning as a power ballad, it builds throughout into something heavier towards the end. By the time Myles screams "I don't wanna die" and that solo hits, it's impossible not to get caught up in this one. Hopefully the finest band in the land can record more songs like this for their next album. 38) "The Edge Of Glory" - Lady GaGaAnother chart-topper of mine from 2011, my favorite GaGa song files in at #38. This rock-leaning dance tune has a great feel to it and the saxaphone parts put it over the top. I have always found the lyrics easy to relate to, and back in 2011 they were especially perfect for me. And while some have laughed at me for saying so, the video remains my favorite from her. 37) "State Of Love And Trust" - Pearl JamI know that JessieLou knows that this has long been my favorite from Pearl Jam. While certainly not among their most famous songs or biggest hits, this track from the Singles soundtrack gets some occasional airplay from the stations that are cool enough to spin it. I love the way Eddie sounds here and the "state of love and trust" is a line that I have always liked. 36) "Real World" - Matchbox 20
Fun riffs? Check. Fun lyrics? You bet. As a guy who really would like to be the head honcho and wishes he didn't have to worry about the real world, this was always an easy one to relate to. My radio professor loved MB20 and seemed totally cool with me playing this song when it wasn't scheduled (something he normally frowned upon). I said in chit chat that there would be one song by this band on my countdown, and here it is.
