JESSICA'S TOP 50: FAVORITE FEMALE ROCKERSFavorite song: Lights Out (2003) Favorite album: To Whom It May Concern (2003) I was first introduced to Lisa Marie Presley around the beginning of 2003 the week the VH1 Top 20 Countdown first aired the “Lights Out” video. They said there was a debut coming up from Lisa Marie Presley, who I knew nothing about except that she was Elvis’s daughter and was married to Michael Jackson. Then the song came on and I fell in love!! I couldn’t get enough of the song, I wanted it to be HUGE. I even got the album the week it came out. She’s very talented and very underrated, I like her a lot.
Favorite song: I Want To Come Over (1996) Favorite album: Yes I Am (1994) My introduction to Melissa Etheridge was through WALK 97.5 in Long Island, NY. “I’m The Only One” and “Come To My Window” were on ALL the time. Very, very, VERY talented musician. She even had a #1 on my chart in 2005 with a cover of “Refugee” by Tom Petty! And she’s a big Pat Benatar fan so YAY Melissa Etheridge ;D
Favorite song: I Do (1997) Favorite album: Tails (1994) I always thought she was absolutely adorable. Everyone mostly knows her for “Stay”, which is a great song, but I actually always preferred “I Do”. Great voice.
Favorite song: Tap That (2006) Favorite album: Better Than Blood (2007) INCREDIBLY underrated. I was introduced to her through Josh and have always been a fan. I’d love another album from her.
Favorite song: Ladylike (2006) Favorite Rockstar: Supernova performance: Anything Anything (2006) Favorite album: Ladylike, Side One (2006) One of my favorite RSS contestants. Amazing voice! I’d love another album from her as well.
Favorite song: Bitch (1997) Favorite album: Blurring The Edges (1997) “Bitch” = one of my favorite songs of all-time. Absolutely love it. Very underrated vocalist.
Favorite song: Where Have All The Cowboys Gone? (1997) Favorite album: This Fire (1997) I loved her in the late 90’s! “Where Have All The Cowboys Gone?” was always one of my favorites.
Favorite song: Supersoul (2006) Favorite Rockstar: Supernova performance: Leave The Lights On (2006) Favorite album: Wonderfool (2000) I actually hated her when I first saw her on RSS. I didn’t like that she did “Lithium” from Nirvana because I LOVE that song and I just found her to be very overrated. She ended up winning me over one week when she sang “Cat’s In The Cradle” and I LOVED it. She’s another one that I’d love another album from.
Favorite song: That’s Just What You Are (1995) Favorite album: The Forgotten Arm (2005) Well, I did like her two hits with ‘Til Tuesday (“Voices Carry” and “What About Love”), and I do like a lot of her solo work, particularly “That’s Just What You Are”, but most importantly… SHE WAS FEATURED ON RUSH’S “TIME STAND STILL”!!!!! Aimee loves Rush! SO SLAYED. Oh yeah, back to Aimee. She is a great songwriter. Always liked her.
Favorite song: Here I Am (2005) Favorite album: Here I Am (2005) I know a lot of you are wondering why ½ of M2M are on this list, and honestly, the reason is because her solo stuff is actually pretty rock. I mean, Nikki Sixx wrote some songs on her debut including the JT40 SMASH “Heads Will Roll”. I think she’s better as a rocker than a pop singer actually.
COMING UP:
31. Lita Ford said this in 2011: "I'm coming back ____ style!" 32. M4BCC's best kept secret 33. She used to date Michael Stipe. 34. I initially wrote her off as a slut because of some childish comments my ex made about her, but she is actually an AMAZING frontwoman and very down to earth. Her band broke through on my chart last year and their most recent album scored two top ten hits. 35. This singer's band had a huge #1 hit on my chart last year, but I always make fun of them to bust a certain M4Ber's chops. 36. Wake me up before you go go! EWWW I QUOTED EWWFACE. But I did for a reason! 37. In 2010, Nicki Minaj felt the need to destroy one of this artist's songs. 38. A member of Fleetwood Mac... think CAREFULLY before guessing this one. 39. My absolute favorite person to come from Rockstar: Supernova. 40. Tipper Gore was heavily offended by an album cover from this woman's band.

Really good stuff so far. I'm imagining #40 to be Sinead O'Connor for some reason.

Only 3 of those are deserving in MY opinion, the best of those being Aimee Mann.

Lots of good ones there ;D Especially the 90's artists, they really bring me back to the Lilith Fair era!
31... Tina Turner? 34... Cristina Scabbia? 37... Annie Lennox? 38... Stevie Nicks? 39... Patrice Pike?

Favorite song: Be My Slave (1983) Favorite album: Be My Slave (1983) For those who do not understand my hint for her…
Tipper Gore was not too thrilled at that cover. But anyway this woman was badass in her day! Check out the song “Be My Slave” and you'll see what I'm talking about. Too bad she looks like trailer trash now.
Favorite song: Unraveling (2006) Favorite Rockstar: Supernova performance: My Iron Lung (2006) Favorite album: Unraveling (2006) This woman is the reason I know “Somebody To Love” by Jefferson Airplane, actually. She sang it on the first episode of RSS and I instantly fell in love with her. Love her voice, incredibly underrated. Also, SEVEN YEARS LATER AND SHE STILL SHOULD'VE WON. SCREW YOU, TOMMY LEE!
Favorite song: Seven Wonders (1987) Favorite album: Rumors (1977) Bry, I told you to think carefully. Stevie is MUCH higher. But Christine is great too! She had a solo song in 1984 that I really liked but I forgot the title. Anyone wanna help me here?
Favorite song: Walking On Broken Glass (1992) Favorite album: Touch (1984) Always liked her a lot. My favorite song from her was VERY close between WOBG and “Here Comes The Rain Again” (Eurythmics) though.
Favorite song: Heaven Is A Place On Earth (1987) Favorite album: Heaven On Earth (1987) Not gonna lie – I could never really get into the Go-Go's. “Vacation” and “We Get The Beat” are okay but that's really it. But I like her solo stuff a lot! Great voice.
Favorite song: Shot In The Dark (2011) Favorite album: The Unforgiven (2011) Even though Within Temptation have always done very well on my chart and even scored themselves a #1 hit last year, I still make fun of them just to bust Josh's chops. (see: Fusion Radio thread in the general board). But in all seriousness they are a great, underrated band, and Sharon can SANG!
Favorite song: Spellbound (2009) Favorite album: Dark Adrenaline (2011) Not charting “Spellbound” = one of my biggest chart regrets EVER. I never heard it until either 2010 or 2011, which was the same reason why Orithiani's “According To You” missed my chart. But yeah, I did initially write Cristina off because of some douchebag comments said by my ex, but I'm over it. She's another one who can SANG! I was listening to Lacuna Coil's first two albums last week and was gonna listen to more but then I started getting into Grace Slick/Jefferson Starship. So for those of you who wanted a Cristina Scabbia obsession, sorry.
Favorite song: Carnival (1995) Favorite album: Tigerlily (1995) Dude, WTF happened to her?? That first album was awesome!! “Carnival” is one of my all-time favorite songs. Love her.
Favorite song: Fall Behind (2004) Favorite album: The Demos (2004) I INTERVIEWED HER! ;D #shamelessplug. Yeah, for those who do not know, I interviewed Naomi on my radio show in December 2004 around the time many M4Ber's were charting her song, “Fall Behind”. We referred to her as M4BCC's best kept secret. What I like a lot about her is that her voice is very similar to Celine Dion's, but if you listen to the music in “Fall Behind”, it sounds like it could be an Evanescence song! Talk about diverse. I'd love it if she became huge one day but sadly I don't think it's gonna happen.
Favorite song: We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome) (1985) Favorite album: Private Dancer (1984) One of the originals! I was always a fan. I remember hearing “What's Love Got To Do With It” on the radio all the time as a kid and I thought it was awesome. She is definitely an icon.
COMING UP:
21. A metal queen turned… JAZZ musician? 22. She recently went to #1 on my chart. 23. This band has a lot of great songs, but they are mostly well known for an incident at the 1992 Reading Festival where their singer threw a used tampon at the audience. 24. She was in a band with Lita! Again…THINK CAREFULLY. 25. THIS WORLD IS BULLSHIT!!11 26. A bass player who has had a troubled last couple of years. 27. Even though she was one of the first singers I ever loved, sadly she is considered a one-hit-wonder these days. 28. You know the woman moaning in the beginning of White Zombie's “More Human Than Human”? It's this woman. 29. An 80's alternative frontwoman and animal rights activist. 30. The blowjob queen.

I do remember you interviewing Naomi when it happened! Ahhh those were the days Do you still have the song? *hint* Oh and 27 must be Billie Myers jajajajajajaja

I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves "Carnival" that much. Also, it's nice to see Christina Sabbia getting mentioned. BTW KP I hate Sinead O'Connor Lol, I NEVER would have guessed that. Now I have to check out Bitch. Offending the Gore family is arguably more cool than offending the Cheney family.

And lol! I do remember you interviewing Naomi when it happened! Ahhh those were the days Do you still have the song? *hint* Of course I do brotha! ;D Favorite song: Stratford-On-Guy (1993) Favorite album: Exile In Guyville (1993) For those who do not understand my hint for her, she says, “I want to be your blowjob queen” in the song, “Flower”. Anyway, it's quite ironic that I like her considering that she was the original indie whore! In all seriousness though 90's indie wasn't THAT bad… it's the 2000's when it started getting evil. But I do like Liz a lot. She had a #1 on my chart in 2003 with “Why Can't I?”
Favorite song: Middle Of The Road (1984) Favorite album: Learning To Crawl (1983) I've always loved her! I also really love “My City Was Gone” and “I'll Stand By You”. She has a very unique voice, which I like a lot.
Favorite song: More Human Than Human (1995) Favorite album: Astrocreep 2000 (1995) She was the bass player in White Zombie. Not only is she a great bassist, but I heard her once on Eddie Trunk's show years ago around the time her book came out and she seems very down to earth.
Favorite song: Kiss The Rain (1998) Favorite album: Growing Pains (1998) I first discovered her in 1998 after seeing the video for “Kiss The Rain” on VH1 and loved her right away. I loved that it was a pop/rock song but her voice was very soulful. I bought the album around the time it came out and was SO hooked on this and the album's second single, “Tell Me”. Incredibly underrated singer who should've went further than she did.
Favorite song: Bullet With Butterfly Wings (1995) Favorite album: Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness (1995) Oh D'Arcy, what went wrong? Such a pretty girl and great bass player… now she keeps on getting in trouble :/ I also read that Billy Corgan fired her for being a “nasty drug addict who refused to get help”, or something along those lines. Love the early Pumpkins stuff.
Favorite song: Criminal (1997) Favorite album: Tidal (1997) Not gonna lie – I always thought the video for “Criminal” was pretty hot. But yeah, I was IN LOVE with her in the 90's. I remember when “Limp” came out and I wanted it to be huge. I'm glad she is getting the praise she deserves these days although I am very disappointed in her most recent album. Oh, and by the way, THIS WORLD IS BULLSHIT!!111
Favorite song: Cherry Bomb (1976) Favorite album: The Runaways (1976) SHE WAS IN THE RUNAWAYS WITH QUEEN LITA! ;D As was Joan Jett who is still to come. Great frontwoman, she was kind of like a female Bowie. Lots of energy!
Favorite song: Pretend We're Dead (1992) Favorite album: Bricks Are Heavy (1992) My introduction to L7 was back in 2008 when I was watching VH1's 40 Freakiest Concert Moments and they had the aforementioned used tampon incident on the countdown. Actually, Grace Slick was also on that countdown for her little incident in Germany back in 1978, but I'll talk about that later as she's still to come. As hilarious as that used tampon thing was, it sucks that L7 is mostly associated with that because they have A LOT of great songs – “Pretend We're Dead”, “Diet Pill”, “Fast And Frightening”, the list goes on. Also, Bricks Are Heavy = EXCELLENT album. Donita Sparks is probably one of my all-time favorite frontwomen/men..
Favorite song: Hands (1998) Favorite album: Pieces Of You (1996) Another one I used to be in love with – when I was a kid, the radio played “You Were Meant For Me” all the time and I always sang along to it. But in 1998, “Hands” came out, and ever since then that has been my all-time favorite Jewel song. So beautiful & haunting. She's also one of my favorite songwriters. Just an all-around talented woman, and honestly, I think she's one of the most beautiful women on this list. She is still stunning to this day. Love her.
Favorite song: Metal Queen (1984) Favorite album: Metal Queen (1984) As I like to call her – Canada's answer to Lita Ford! ;D I love this woman. I first discovered her in February 2009 on Eddie Trunk's show because comedian/fellow That Metal Show host Don Jamieson was in the studio and he mentioned Lee Aaron. As you all probably know by now, especially since I made a list such as this , I am very attracted to female rock voices, so I wanted to check her out. I went on YouTube and watched the “Metal Queen” music video and fell in love. I also love her songs “Rock Me All Over” and “Lady Of The Darkest Night”. These days, however, she is doing jazz music. YAWN.
COMING UP:
16. Basically the female version of Motorhead. 17. She was responsible for one of the most well-known festivals of the 1990's. 18. Basically the female version of Eric Clapton. 19. Heart's #1 single “These Dreams” was originally offered to this woman. 20. An 80's all-female hair metal band.
