8. Paula Abdul - Straight UpWhen I was younger, Paula Abdul was one of my favourite pop singers... I enjoyed many of the songs she had out (got more into her around 1991-92, but her earlier stuff I enjoyed too), and this song has remained my favourite by her. If anyone knows what it's like to be an American Idol, it's her, which made her a natural choice to judge I eventually got the "Forever Your Girl" album on tape, and it made me appreciate this song, and her others, even more, making this her highest entry at #8.

Excellent song. I loved it ever since I first heard it on the radio back in the late 90s. My favorite from her. <3

7. Collective Soul - The World I Know[/size] I'd enjoyed all of the singles before this that they'd done ("Shine" in particular), but this song, continuing with their hit streak, eventually became my favourite. It's one song that never grows old with age, and actually I enjoyed it more through the years since this was released. One of my favourite rock ballads ever, and it ends up being my 7th favourite song of all time. Six songs remain... who will have my favourite song of all time?

EXCELLENT SONG. That was in my top 100 too, but it was all the way at #96. I heard that twice today. I absolutely love it. ;D

6. Alanis Morissette - IronicIn 1995/1996, I'd really enjoyed Alanis Morissette, and after her first 2 singles (which I did enjoy), this single was one I'd liked a lot more. This one I'd particularly enjoyed the lyrics too, even if none of the situations actually were ironic It's one that's stood the test of time since then, and become a classic 10 years later, much like her entire "Jagged Little Pill" album; the acoustic version also continued my enjoyment as a new take on a familiar song. Alanis also ranks as the highest Canadian in the list.

"Ironic" was the very first music video I ever saw, back in January 1996 (before that, I didn't have cable TV). Even though I'm not a big fan of Alanis, or of 90's grunge rock in general, I still like this one very much, and I'm pleased to see in in the top 10. ;D

Collective Soul's track is solid, and I absolutely ADORE Alanis' "Ironic." A definitive classic, hands down.
Jess, I loved your post. I knew you'd squee with happiness! LOL. ;D

5. Bon Jovi - Livin' On A PrayerThis is one song I've always known and enjoyed... and it still amazes me at how classic this has become. Bon Jovi has remained consistent over the past 20+ years, and no matter how good their music has been since, this will always stand out as the song that defined their career. And listening back to it, it's no surprise why it's endured since its release. Their music is full of timeless, generation-spanning classic songs, and this remains my favourite from them.
