It's that time of the year. Time to take a look back at the top songs of the year on my personal chart. All totaled, 178 songs appeared on my personal chart during calendar year 2021. These are the Top 150 of them. For 150-101, I'll just list the artists and songs. For the Top 100, I'll include a video clip and a little information about how the song performed on my Top 50 during the year. Let's get it started!
150. Khalid NEW NORMAL 149. Summer Walker f/ JT (from City Girls) EX FOR A REASON 148. Pop Smoke f/ Dua Lipa DEMEANOR 147. Malia Civetz BROKE BOY 146. Tate McRae & Khalid WORKING 104. Pop Smoke f/ Chris Brown WOO BABY 103. Swedish House Mafia f/ The Weeknd MOTH TO A FLAME 102. Daya BAD GIRL 101. Kygo f/ Donna Summer HOT STUFF
Coming up in the Top 100, songs from Sam Smith and Usher that were also on last year's year end chart, as well as songs from Post Malone, Billie Eilish, and a song released near the beginning of the last quarter of the year by one half of a music power couple. The song in question was probably inspired by the couple's relationship. That is...until they announced their split shortly after the song got its single release. D'oh!

100. Shouse LOVE TONIGHT
This song, originally released in 2017 by Australian-New Zealander duo, Shouse, saw renewed popularity in 2021 because of - what else? - TikTok. At first, I disliked it. But eventually the tide turned and I warmred up to it. Once I did, it found a place on my chart, where it still is as of this week, working its way down after a three-week stay in it's peak position of #18.
99. Camila Cabello DON'T GO YET
U.S. radio programmers ignored Camila Cabello's request in the title of this song because it was suddenly on the radio everywhere here and then, in the blink of an eye, it was gone. However, the former Fifth Harmony member enjoyed a 14-week stay on my Top 50 which included a peak of #17.
98. Coldplay & BTS MY UNIVERSE
It took, like, three versions of this song for me to be excited about it. The original Coldplay-only version was fine. When BTS was added, my opinion of it improved to pretty decent. But the version that I ended up really taking a liking to was a mix created by Swedish duo, Galantis. That version helped propel "My Universe" to two-week peak of #11 on my Top 50. It's still on my chart as of this week, working its way downward.
97. Sam Smith DIAMONDS
Good old Sam Smith! "Diamonds" was on my Top 150 songs of 2020 list. That means it kind of got screwed over in terms of where it could've appeared on either year's year end list. No matter, though! #97 is a pretty decent showing on this year end chart considering it had most if its chart run in 2020 and had already peaked by the time the calendar changed to 2021.
96. Zara Larsson featuring Young Thug TALK ABOUT LOVE
This sexy turn for former Scandinavian Reality TV show winner, Zara Larsson, didn't get the due it probably should've gotten here in the U.S. But, it managed a 15-week stay on my Top 50 that resulted in a peak of #15.

95. Demi Lovato & Ariana Grande MET HIM LAST NIGHT
Talk about not getting it's due in the U.S... This early 2021 single from Demi Lovato & Ariana Grande had all the makings of a smash hit. Two super-talented vocalists? Check. Lyrics about a no-good man ruining a woman's life? Check. These are the things that hit songs are made of. And yet, it disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Luckily, it was on my chart for a little bit longer: 16 weeks with a three-week stay in its peak of #19.
94. Internet Money featuring Gunna, Don Toliver, & Nav LEMONADE
This cool Trap Rap song by production collective, Internet Money, reminded me a little bit of Saint Jhn's surprise 2020 hit, "Roses." In fact, "Lemonade" even started its chart run on my Top 50 near the end of 2020. It peaked at #8 the second week of January and was on my chart into late March.
93. Billie Eilish YOUR POWER
This tale of a powerful male in an industry (Music? Movie? TV? Corporate? Who knows...) taking advantage of someone with no clout or way to stand up for herself was on my chart for 15 weeks and peaked at #16.
92. Shawn Mendes SUMMER OF LOVE
Oh Shawn... Shawn, Shawn, Shawn... "Summer Of Love" is a nice enough song. It really is. Produced by Tainy, it peaked at #15 for two weeks and was on my Top 50 for a total of 15 weeks. But, sweetie... It's fine to write and even record a song about spending time with your high-profile girlfriend. But don't release it as a single. You'll be required by your fans who love the song to perform it whenever you tour. Even after you and said high-profile girlfriend break up. Which is what has happened. That makes THREE hit songs he'll either never want to perform live again or he'll perform them through gritted teeth with a fake-ass smile on his face. Another regret related to this song? That awful macrame fishnet shirt thing he wore in the music video. Oh, Shawn... Shawn, Shawn, Shawn...
91. Polo G RAPSTAR
"Rapstar" became somewhat of a hit over the summer, but I guess I had a harder time latching on to it. It did end up having a 17-week run on my chart with a peak of #15 once I did end up liking it.
More to come later today, including Jonas Brothers, Lizzo, a couple appearances by Justin Bieber (the first of several), plus a collabo by Yung Bleu & Drake with a title that might drive your English Teacher crazy, and much more!

You'll see Diamonds and Your Power a little higher on my year end. Summer of Love was a near miss for the top 100 here.

Diamonds was in my Top 20 of 2020 I had to go back and look. It placed at #65 on my 2020 chart. If it had its entire chart run in either year, it would've been in the Top 30 on my 2020 chart and could've possibly made the Top 20 on the 2021 list.

90. Blxst featuring Ty Dolla Sign & Tyga CHOSEN
This neat late 2021 entry is still on my Top 50, currently at #5 and may not have even reached its peak yet. Either way, it's almost assured an entry on 2022's year end list.
89. Shawn Mendes & Justin Bieber MONSTER
"Monster" was already on my weekly Top 50 at the start of 2021. Because of that, it is placing lower than it probably should have. But, it did spend two weeks at its peak of #16 in February 2021.
88. Lizzo featuring Cardi B RUMORS
I was excited about "Rumors" because I thought it meant that a new Lizzo album was imminent. Even though the song was released four months ago, there's been no follow-up single or word about when said new album might actually get released. Bummer. What isn't a bummer, though, is the 16 weeks it appeared on my Top 50 that included a peak at #11.
87. Usher BAD HABITS
Like "Diamonds" by Sam Smith earlier on the list, "Bad Habits" also appeared on the year end list for 2020. At #93, to be exact, so it does at least outdo that ranking. Disappointingly, Usher hasn't released a new single since. Hopefully that will change in 2022.
86. Post Malone MOTLEY CREW
"Motley Crew" was not the commercial success that many thought it might be when it first got released. Luckily, my chart isn't really based on commercial expectations or performance. It spent 18 weeks on my Top 50 in the second half of 2021 and peaked at #12.

85. Dee Gees SHADOW DANCING
Recording under the name "Dee Gees" to pay tribute to the Pop trio popular for their mid and late 70s Disco recordings, The Foo Fighters released an EP of a handful of Bee Gees and Bee Gees-adjacent songs in mid-2021. "Shadow Dancing" originally released in 1978 by Gibb brother Andy, who although he wasn't an official member of the band was often referred to as "the fourth Bee Gee," was my favorite of the Foos' covers. It's still on my Top 50 chart, but just recently spent two weeks at its likely peak of #9.
84. Givēon FOR TONIGHT
Although he's been making music for several years and has even had a few charting singles on the Adult R&B chart, 2021 was a big year for Soul singer/songwriter, Givēon. The aching love song, "For Tonight," one of two mainstream hits he had this year, is still on my Top 50 chart and currently sits at #2. Has it peaked yet or will it push ahead to #1? Whatever happens, you're almost assured of seeing it on the 2022 year end chart too.
83. Cardi B UP
Hip-Hop firecracker and former Reality TV star, Cardi B, had a big hit on her hands in 2021 with "Up." It's performance on my chart was also pretty good. A peak at #9 during a 17-week stint? Definitely nothing to scoff at!
82. Jonas Brothers WHO'S IN YOUR HEAD?
Anyone who thought the Jonas Brothers' surprise 2019 reunion album and the non-album singles they released in 2020 were a one-off and the brothers would go back to their solo ventures were proven wrong when the Max Martin-produced "Who's In Your Head" was released a few months ago. The song is still on my Top 50, working its way downward. But, it did manage an impressive peak at #6 in early December.
81. Yung Bleu featuring Drake YOU'RE MINES STILL
Even when he's in between his own single and album releases, Drake is still helping other artists get hits. "You're Mines Still" was the first charting single and second overall single by rapper, Yung Bleu. It spent 19 weeks on my Top 50 and peaked at #12.
More big JT50 hits on the way, including entries by Ava Max, Bebe Rexha, back to back Dua Lipa (both are collaborations, incidentally), and a handful of entries that were not Mainstream Pop hits but were still favorites of mine such as songs by Mooski, Victoria Monét, a duet by Stokley & The Bonfyre. Plus, much more!

Monster was too split year (as well as Wonder) to make my top 100 but both are still good. Who's In Your Head will ultimately be a split year, but did make my top 100.

80. The Kid Laroi SO DONE
Although his second single, "Without You," was the bigger hit, I was really into the first U.S. single by Australian artist, The Kid Laroi. It had been on my Top 50 for a couple weeks in 2020, but had most of its run in 2021, where it managed a peak position of #10 before falling off of the chart in April.
79. Miley Cyrus & Dua Lipa PRISONER
It was surprising that this song wasn't a bigger commercial success. Regardless of anything she says or does (I'm not judging, just making an observation), Miley Cyrus always seems to have chart success. And this duet came out at the time that many would probably argue that Dua Lipa was at the height of her musical powers. However, it did end up doing well on my chart. It started on the Top 50 near the end of 2020, but peaked at #11 in early February.
78. Bebe Rexha SACRIFICE
The only song I charted this year by Bebe Rexha, the acclaimed singer/songwriter who has been responsible for writing or helping to write some of the biggest Pop hits of the 2010s, "Sacrifice" spent 19 weeks in my Top 50 and peaked at #14.
77. Dua Lipa LEVITATING
"Levitating," my favorite of the 300 singles released from Dua Lipa's latest album, had already spent all four of its weeks in the #1 spot on my personal chart at the close of 2020, placing it at #41 on my 2020 year end chart. It was on the Top 50 all the way into April for a total of 32 weeks.
76. Jason Derulo TAKE YOU DANCING
This catchy little number by Jason Derulo, released after the popularity of 2020's "Savage Love," had been on my chart for several weeks at the end of 2020, but peaked at #3 in mid-January of this year and the song stayed in my Top 50 into March.

75. Justin Bieber featuring Chance The Rapper HOLY
It's hard to remember because he's released so many singles and been involved in several singles by other artists since it was released, but "Holy" was the first single from Justin Bieber's latest album, Justice, which came out in 2020. Given that, this song had some of it's time on my Top 50 last year. But, it opened 2021 in the #1 spot for me, which was its only week in the top spot.
74. ATB & Topic featuring A7S YOUR LOVE (9PM)
Topic & A7S had a JT50 hit in 2020 with "Breaking Me." The two reteamed in 2021 and took some heavy inspiration from ATB's international dance hit, "9PM (Till I Come)." "Your Love (9PM)" peaked at #15 where it spent two weeks over the summer and logged in 20 weeks on my personal chart.
73. Victoria Monét COASTIN'
Largely known as a songwriter, having helped write a few hits for Ariana Grande and a handful of other Pop luminaries, Victoria Monét has released a few songs of her own over the years. But, "Coastin'," released late in 2021, was the first that really grabbed hold of me. This breezy, fun love song that sampled Mary Jane Girls' 1983 jam, "All Night Long," was a joy for me. It's easy to see why it never became a hit Pop record, but I think that I should have. It's still on my Top 50 as of this posting, but it spent two weeks in its peak position of #8 in late November/early December.
72. G-Eazy featuring Chris Brown & Mark Morrison PROVIDE
Speaking of sampling, the only entry from G-Eazy on my Top 50 in 2021 sampled Mark Morrison's huge 1997 hit, "Return Of The Mack." In a strange twist, Morrison was given a featured credit on the song even though the only time his voice is heard is at the beginning of the song in the form of the memorable elongated "Whoa" from "Return Of The Mack." I enjoyed this one over the spring and summer. It languished just outside the Top 10 for three weeks in its peak position of #11 during am 18-week chart run.
71. BBNO$ featuring Rich Brian EDAMAME
"Edamame," a quirky and offbeat, yet super-fun release by indie rapper, BBNO$ (or, Big Baby No Money), ended up making a fan out of me late this year. It's still on my Top 50 having just peaked at #4 on the second to last chart of 2021 that counted toward this year end list.
Much more to come on Jason's Top 150 Songs Of 2021 including more Justin Bieber (like...a LOT more), more Dua Lipa (like...somewhat more), BTS, and Megan Thee Stallion. Plus Lil' Nas X channels his inner...sexy Santa?! All that and more on the way!

92. Shawn Mendes SUMMER OF LOVE (hey, leave the fishnet-shirt alone) 88. Lizzo featuring Cardi B RUMORS 83. Cardi B UP (This one fell juuuust outside my top 100 for the year) 82. Jonas Brothers WHO'S IN YOUR HEAD? (My #36) 80. The Kid Laroi SO DONE 79. Miley Cyrus & Dua Lipa PRISONER 78. Bebe Rexha SACRIFICE 77. Dua Lipa LEVITATING (It really did seem like she released every song on the album lol) 76. Jason Derulo TAKE YOU DANCING (I agree, his catchiest tune in a while for me)

92. Shawn Mendes SUMMER OF LOVE (hey, leave the fishnet-shirt alone) Sorry, Matt. I hadn't ever seen the music video for "Summer Of Love" until I looked it up to find a clip to post here and seeing that thing made me cringe. (I realize other things should have made me do the opposite of cringe, lol!) I had to type something about it or I would've ended up cramping up from not saying it.

70. Maluma featuring The Weeknd HAWAI
Although bothered to death about it by his record label, Maluma reportedly hadn't ever wanted to record a Spanglish or English-language version of any of his songs. However, he relented when it came to his 2020 single, "Hawái." The team-up with The Weeknd came out near the end of that year and turned out to be great. I'm actually a little disappointed that I didn't have it perform better on my personal chart. It had spent a few weeks on my chart last year, but ended up hanging around inside my Top 50 into May this year while peaking at #9.
69. Mooski TRACK STAR
"Track Star" by new artist, Mooski, was one of a handful of songs that came out in 2021 that had a little different sound that much of what had become popular in the Hip-Hop genre over the past few years. It peaked at #10 for me over the summer during a 20-week stay on my chart.
68. Stokley & The Bonfyre CASCADE
I've been a fan of R&B singer, The Bonfyre since two of her 2018 singles ruled my chart. This year, she duetted with Adult R&B vocalist, Stokley. "Cascade" surprised me with how much I ended up liking it. While it spent two weeks at its peak of #14, it ended up having a relatively long run on my Top 50 (for where it peaked) of 21 weeks.
67. Saweetie featuring Jhené Aiko BACK TO THE STREETS
This sassy collaboration, which is basically about getting over a bad relationship by getting under someone new, first appeared on my chart a few weeks before the end of 2020. It was gone from my chart before the end of April 2021, but not before peaking at #9.
66. Cheat Codes featuring Tinashe LEAN ON ME
It was good to hear from Tinashe again. In the earlier part of the 2010s, she was an up and coming R&B and Pop artist and had even worked with Nick Jonas on a duet version of his big solo hit, "Jealous." But until this collaboration with Cheat Codes came out in the middle part of the year, it had been a few years since I'd heard any new music from her. Ultimately, "Lean On Me" spent 19 weeks in my Top 50 and peaked at #11 for two weeks.
