#18 "Lean Back," Terror Squad Peak: #6 WOC: 26 Spins: 76866 I don't suppose too many of you are too thrilled to see this up this high. (I know I'm not) A fortunate #14 peak at Pop is what relegated this to #6.

#17 "Meant to Live," Switchfoot Peak: #9 WOC: 31 Spins: 76958 This was a notorious slow-riser. It set the record for most consecutive weeks with a bullet (but in a complete surprise, another song that is still to come beat it). Chart run: (lost its bullet after its 2nd week at #9) 49-46-42-42-42-42-37-36-36-33-31-26-23-21-17-14-13-12-12-9-12-9-10-11-10-14-17-18-23-32-42-OFF

#16 "My Happy Ending," Avril Lavigne Peak: #3 WOC: 26 Spins: 77790 "She Will Be Loved" was a bane for this song on here as well, except here that also had help from "Goodies". What this resulted in was Avril going no higher than #3.

#15 "Pieces of Me," Ashlee Simpson Peak: #1 (3) WOC: 24 Spins: 78565 She unseated the song that set a record low for a #1 spin total. That song is still to come. And...unfortunately, I have to stop here for today. It would've been nice to complete the whole countdown without interruption, but someone else wants the computer, and I can't exactly stall. Check back tomorrow for the Top 14 of 2004!

And now it's time to count down the Top 14 songs of 2004! #14 "Dip it Low," Christina Milian Peak: #1 (1) WOC: 25 Spins: 81542 Yes, this hit #1 for a single week. She followed "Turn Me On" to #1. Since "Turn Me On" had hit #1 with #4 peaks on the respective charts, I thought she might've had a chance to follow suit. But then she peaked on the charts and it looked like she would lose out. In the end, she held out long enough to unseat Kevin and claim #1...but not without a price. Her spin total is the lowest ever recorded for a #1 - less than 4600. (I forget the number, but it's 4550-something) Since "Pieces of Me" wasn't about to stop, Christina only logged a single week at #1. But even one week is good enough when you weren't likely to even get one.

#13 "Leave (Get Out)," JoJo Peak: #4 WOC: 26 Spins: 82790 So how do other Pop #1s manage to hit #1 here, other songs that weren't Pop #1s also hit #1 here, while this misses? Well, only going to #12 on Billboard will put an anchor on her weekly spins. Still, lasting 26 weeks and having had an outside chance to finish in the Top 10 for the year makes up for matters.

#12 "Tipsy," J-Kwon Peak: #3 WOC: 25 Spins: 83110 Here's another song that got into a song feud. This one was with Maroon 5's "This Love". (They debuted on different weeks, so their runs are lined up to correspond by weeks. Runs shown here stop once both had peaked) TL: 46-43-36-26-19-17-14- 9- 6-5-3-2 Tipsy: 42-33-28-23-19-16-13-8-6-6-3 As you can see, he debuted ahead of "This Love", only to see Maroon 5 turn the tables two weeks later. He spent the weeks that followed chasing Maroon 5 up the chart, without ever turning the tables back on them. For a while, he sat at #10 for the year. Then the December charts came and two songs passed him, leaving him here.

#11 "Someday," Nickelback Peak: #3 WOC: 24 Spins: 84819 Last year's #75 debuted the same week as "The Way You Move". What is most interesting is both ended up spending 36 weeks on the chart. This was kept to #3 by the double whammy of Outkast. This spent 4 weeks at #3, while "The Way You Move" spent 5 weeks at #2 before hitting #1, and "Hey Ya" spent 4 weeks at #2 after leaving #1. This looked likely to rank in the Top 10 for 2004...that is, until the very last week. So who kicked them out? Well, that song is actually next.

#10 "Goodies," Ciara Featuring Petey Pablo Peak: #1 (4) WOC: 24 Spins: 85672 The Top 10 kicks off with a not-too-distant #1. Ciara was unseated in mid-November by "My Boo". And, as I just mentioned, it took until the very last week of 2004 for Ciara to reach the Top 10 of the year.

#9 "I Don't Wanna Know," Mario Winans Featuring Enya & P. Diddy Peak: #2 WOC: 25 Spins: 86637 This one spent a lot of time in the Top 5 for a non-#1: 4-3-3-2-3-3-4-3-3-3 He had a number of detractors keeping him from #1, those being "Yeah", "Naughty Girl", "Burn", and "The Reason". What happened was he took #2 from "This Love" (that's why that one's not listed) on the week that turned out to be "Yeah" 's last at #1. So Mario would hit #1 next week, right? WRONG, as both Beyonce and "Burn" jumped over him the next week. Shortly thereafter, "The Reason" jumped over him, and by then his chances for #1 were gone. But all this was not enough to keep him from the Top 10 of 2004.

#8 "My Immortal," Evanescence Peak: #3 WOC: 30 Spins: 91833 Five songs spent at least 30 weeks on the chart in 2004, and this one was the first. As previously mentioned, the interference of "One Call Away" kept this from an outside shot at #2. This only grabbed one week at #3, because by that point, spring's other big hits ("This Love", "Naughty Girl", and others) were coming up and crowding more top spots. Still, this spent a chunk of its fall still in the top 10: 3-4-5-4-8-9-9-9-10-10-9-23-28-30-40-50-OFF Odd drops like 9-23 are quite rare, but eventually a song's staying momentum is torn away from it.

#7 "She Will Be Loved," Maroon 5 Peak: #1 (2) WOC: 25 Spins: 92738 This managed to do what "This Love" could not, and that's hit #1. This unseated "Pieces of Me". Maroon 5 are the only band/group to log two songs in the Top 10 of 2004. There is a chance that this will appear on the 2005 year-end chart as well, all it has to do is last long enough.

#6 "The Way You Move," Outkast Featuring Sleepy Brown Peak: #1 (5) WOC: 24 Spins: 95934 Last year's #77 is the final song that ranked on the 2003 year-end chart. This one is probably the slowest riser ever to #1, needing 19 weeks to get there (12 of which were in 2003). As previously mentioned, this debuted the same week as "Someday", and both lasted a total of 36 weeks on the chart. Occurrences like that aren't very common (especially when the two songs in question are like these two and debut the same week), but they are certainly worth noting and remembering. So now we are to the Top 5 of 2004, and the year's biggest artist still has two songs left. Obviously that means both are in the Top 5, but how high did each get?

#5 "Burn," Usher Peak: #1 (7) WOC: 28 Spins: 97359 The second-longest-running #1 on 2004 is the third hit from Usher on the countdown. The only reason this is #5 is because the Top 4 all lasted longer - all 36 weeks or more. Those are all impressive weeks on figures, but which of them is king (or queen, since one is the fourth from Alicia)?

#4 "If I Ain't Got You," Alicia Keys Peak: #7 WOC: 37 Spins: 108702 Like last year, the Top 4 all finished with more than 100,000 spins. Alicia Keys is the one who broke Switchfoot's record of consecutive weeks with a bullet, although she almost didn't. 44-40-37-31-26-24-23-22-21-23-20-19-20-19-14-13-13-10-11-8-8-9-8-9-7-8-9-9-8-7-10-13-20-23-29-37-46-OFF (She finally lost the bullet after her first week at #7 but did have one on her last week at #8) She wasn't able to enter the Top 20 until she started getting support from the Pop chart, but she almost lost her bullet at that time (it did drop below +100). However, in the end, she persevered, and then some. And this may actually now be her biggest hit to date - Fallin', despite hitting #1, only finished at #8 for 2001.
