Welcome to the AC Top 104 of 2004 Countdown. It's been quite a year, but I won't waste time with a long introduction, so...let's get this started! As a quick reminder, this chart is put together using the Top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100 and R&R's CHR/Pop chart. If you're looking for my true personal chart, you're in the wrong place. Each spot will look as such: # "Title," Artist 2004 Peak Position Weeks on Chart Spins: (Actually points, but spins sounds better) *Comments* The Top 10 that just missed the chart: ### "Title," Artist PP WOC Spins 105 "Headsprung," LL Cool J 27 12 18534 106 "Southside," Lloyd Featuring Ashanti 26 13 18145 107 "Read Your Mind," Avant 28 12 18131 108 "Game Over (Flip)," Lil' Flip 24 11 17751 109 "The Voice Within," Christina Aguilera 19 08 17640 110 "Feelin' Way Too Damn Good," Nickelback 34 12 17528 111 "Hush," LL Cool J Featuring 7 Aurelius 22 09 17338 112 "100 Years," Five For Fighting 33 13 17315 113 "U Should've Known Better," Monica 32 13 17005 114 "Away From the Sun," 3 Doors Down 39 11 16934 (Normally I would only post the Top 5, but as it turns out there were 5 songs that weren't inside the Top 104 until the very last week of the year, which means there's a Top 5 before the last week, and an entirely new Top 5 after the last week. So posting the Top 10 would be more realistic.) And with that, on to #104...

#104 "Balla Baby," Chingy Peak: #19 WOC: 9 Spins: 18697 His first of three, and the first of the five songs that weren't in the Top 104 until the last week. Also his lowest peaker and his first ever Top 10 miss. As a point of reference, this is just over 2200 spins lower than last year's #104 (Ashanti's "Rain on Me").

#103 "Headstrong," Trapt Peak: #11 WOC: 7 Spins: 19704 One of three songs that are tied for fewest weeks on the chart on the countdown. This actually peaked at #7, but that was in 2003. "Headstrong" was #40 last year. Follow-up "Echo" will not be seen on the countdown, as it finished the year at #122.

#102 "Why?," Jadakiss Featuring Anthony Hamilton Peak: #25 WOC: 13 Spins: 19900 Out of all 104 songs, this has the shortest title.

#101 "1, 2 Step," Ciara Featuring Missy Elliott Peak: #8 WOC: 7 Spins: 19915 The second song to make the Top 104 in the last week, and the second song in the fewest-weeks-on tie. Due to its barely making the year-end chart, this is also the lowest-ranked song to make the Top 10 this year. On to #100 before I pull out any more statistics...

#100 "Welcome to My Life," Simple Plan Peak: #20 WOC: 11 Spins: 19971 The third song to make the year-end chart in the last week. The first of two appearances for Simple Plan, and Simple Plan aren't exactly known for finishing very well on these year-end charts. Last year, "I'd Do Anything" was #101, "Perfect" was #92, and "Addicted" was #84. "Perfect" is still to come on this year's chart, but given their track record (and that it was bisected between years), I don't expect it to rank that much higher than this.

#99 "Get Low," Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz Featuring Ying Yang Twins Peak: #11 WOC: 9 Spins: 20507 This was #14 last year, and peaked in 2003 at #4. This seemed to run neck-and-neck with Santana/Alex Band's "Why Don't You & I", as both peaked at around the same time, both fell down the chart at about the same rate, and both lasted more than 30 weeks on the chart (each). Speaking of "Why Don't You & I", that's still to come.

#98 "Bounce," Sarah Connor Peak: #26 WOC: 13 Spins: 20565 Personally, I think she finished awfully low for a song that peaked at #11 on Pop. But not making Billboard's Top 50 caused this to peak at #26, and without better longevity, this is the year-end result.

#97 "Let Me Love You," Mario Peak: #5 WOC: 7 Spins: 20671 The fourth song to make the chart in the last week. This seems destined to hit #1 in 2005.

#96 "Walked Outta Heaven," Jagged Edge Peak: #19 WOC: 10 Spins: 20786 Jagged Edge have the "honor" of being a part of the year-end chart's first oddity, as "Walked Outta Heaven" was also #96 last year. They hadn't made the Top 20 yet by this point last year, but they finished with about 2000 more spins last year.

#95 "Falls on Me," Fuel Peak: #27 WOC: 14 Spins: 20867 This had a very slow rise before finally stopping at #27. But here comes only the second chart oddity, as the week after it peaked at #27, it fell to 28, then all the way to 50, then off. In comparing this to "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)", the results are actually quite similar to those of Inoj's two singles on the Pop chart. Analysis: AC Top 50 stats for Fuel singles"Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" - peaked at #26 and spent 9 weeks on "Falls on Me" - peaked at #27 and spent 17 weeks on (3 of which were in 2003) CHR/Pop stats for Inoj singles"Love You Down" - peaked at #19 and spent 24 weeks on "Time After Time" - peaked at #18 and spent 12 weeks on In short, bigger hit "Love You Down" peaked one spot lower than her other hit and lasted twice as long on the chart. The same can be applied to the Fuel singles on the AC Top 50. (Especially since "Hemorrhage" didn't make the 2001 year-end chart) This won't be the first time I compare chart stats to those of the Pop chart. I have a rather surprising comparison much later on. (Some of you know what that is, don't give it away. ) Whew, that was too long. On to #94...

#94 "Wonderful," Ja Rule Featuring R. Kelly & Ashanti Peak: #14 WOC: 9 Spins: 20872 The fifth and final song to make the chart in the last week. I'll bet at the start of the year, no one expected Ja Rule to have a hit this year, much less one just strong enough to make the year-end chart. Only R. Kelly will make another appearance, but not as a main artist. His closest as main artist was "Happy People", which finished at #120.

#93 "Why Don't You & I," Santana Featuring Alex Band Peak: #14 WOC: 11 Spins: 21605 Last year's #18 peaked at #3 in 2003. Only one other song from last year's Top 20 lasted long enough to make this year's chart.

#92 "8th World Wonder," Kimberley Locke Peak: #30 WOC: 16 Spins: 22526 The lowest-peaking song on the chart. That's a bit of an improvement over last year, as last year, the lowest-peaking song on the chart finished at #99. (It was "Swing, Swing" by All-American Rejects, who peaked at #29.)

#91 "Wat Da Hook Gon Be," Murphy Lee Featuring Jermaine Dupri Peak: #27 WOC: 13 Spins: 22891 This actually started the year at its peak of #27, but it didn't exactly have a normal fall: 27-28-29-27-28-34-30-31-38-38-38-48-50-OFF
