I really enjoyed Green Day... they carried off their biggest success so far this decade, and I was happy to see it... the "American Idiot" album was one of my favourites ;D
Hope to see new music from Green Day sometime soon!

#41. Eve
Biggest Hit of the 00s: Let Me Blow Ya Mind (featuring Gwen Stefani)
Biggest Album of the 00s: Scorpion
Other Singles from the 00s: Love Is Blind (featuring Faith Evans), Ryde Or Die, Chick (with Lox & Timbaland), Got It All, Who's That Girl, Got What U Need, Caramel (with City High), Gangsta Lovin' (featuring Alicia Keys), Satisfaction, Not Today (with Mary J. Blige), Rich Girl (with Gwen Stefani), 1 Thing (with Amerie), Tambourine (featuring Swizz Beatz), Give It to You (featuring Sean Paul) & Like This (with Kelly Rowland).
Biography of the 00s: Eve Jihan Jeffers better known as Eve or E-V-E, is an American rapper, singer, and actress. She adopted the name Gangsta in high school as part of an all-female group called EDGP (pronounced Egypt), and eventually went solo as Eve of Destruction.
Jeffers has sold millions of albums during her musical career. Her first three albums have so far reached 3.6 million copies sold. Eve has been awarded 1 Grammy Award over the years. In 2003, she became the star of her own TV show, Eve, which lasted for 3 seasons. The rapper/singer/actress has also achieved success in fashion as she started a clothing line titled "Fetish."
After a period of working as a stripper, Eve returned to hip-hop at the encouragement of rap superstar Ma$e; she recorded "Eve of Destruction", which appeared on the soundtrack to Bulworth in 1998 (see 1998 in music). Her label, Aftermath Records, found itself in financial trouble and Eve was soon without a record contract. She had, however, befriended DMX and appeared on a remix of his hit single "Ruff Ryders Anthem" from his multi platinum selling debut album, It's Dark and Hell is Hot, along with other Ruff Ryders' compilations. Her next single, "What Ya Want", featuring Nokio of Dru Hill, didn't do so well on the charts, so she collaborated with The Roots, Blackstreet and Janet Jackson, which further expanded her fan base. Her 1999 debut, Let There Be Eve...Ruff Ryders' First Lady, was an unprecedented success, becoming the second hip-hop album by a woman to enter the Billboard 200 at #1 (the first was by Brooklyn rapper, Foxy Brown).
The follow-up to Let There Be Eve, Scorpion, was released in 2001. Its first single, "Who's That Girl" guaranteed the rapper first international success. The second single, "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" (with Gwen Stefani of No Doubt) and produced by Dr. Dre, became a pop success, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song won a Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, and Scorpion eventually went platinum.
One of the record's strengths, cited in several reviews, was Eve's exploration of her singing voice in addition to her rapping skills. "I was a singer before I started rapping," Eve said in a Ruff Ryders press release, "so on this album I wanted my audience to hear more of my vocal skills."
Eve's third album, Eve-Olution, was released in summer 2002 (see 2002 in music) and peaked at #6 on Billboard. In the meantime, the album's first single, "Gangsta Lovin'", with Alicia Keys, became another #2 hit. The second and final single, "Satisfaction", only saw moderate success again. Eve-Olution was a flop and became Eve's worst selling album to date. Afterwards, Eve closed out 2003 by signing to UPN for a television show about a fashion designer titled, Eve, and a feature on Mary J. Blige's single, "Not Today".
In 2005, the rapper appeared on Gwen Stefani's top ten hit "Rich Girl", which peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March. The same year, she appeared on the remix of Amerie's #1 U.S. R&B hit, "1 Thing" the Hitch soundtrack.
In 2007, she appeared on Kelly Rowland's single "Like This", while Punk Cabaret band, One On None, covered Eve's song "Love Is Blind". In July 2007 Eve made a guest appearance on Maroon 5's second single Wake Up Call on Live @ 45th at Night, it is unknown if this will be an official remix or if it will even be recorded.
Currently, Eve is working on her fourth solo album Here I Am, due for release on October 16, 2007. Those rumored to be involved with the album are Timbaland, Dr. Dre, The Neptunes, Swizz Beatz and Scott Storch. Slated to make guest appearances are Adam Levine, Sean Paul, Swizz Beatz, Shakira, and possibly Gwen Stefani.
The first single "Tambourine" from Here I Am was released in April 2007. The second single has been announced as "Give It to You" featuring Sean Paul. This song is reggae-influenced breezy mid-tempo song. Eve has stated that the third single may be a song called "All Night Long". This song is an 80s-pop influenced song that Eve sings rather than raps. "All Night Long" was produced by Pharrell and finds Eve singing, something the rapper had previously been reluctant to undertake despite persuasion from her label.
"[Pharrell] made me sing a whole song. I finally got up the nerve [but] I feel like I was bullied into it," she jokes. "But it's one of my favorite songs on the album. I was really stressed about it but it was fun to do. I consider myself somebody who can maybe hold a note on a good day. I sang hooks before, which is super easy, but I had to get out of my comfort zones."
An insider review of "All Night Long" said: "Very different than Eve's usual style. It sounds like an '80s pop song. She tries out her singing skills here and she succeeds. They are no crazy, over the top vocals, but she sings much better than most so called songstress' today. The beat is pretty much good, and the lyrics are above average, but the chorus gets repitive (Make it last all night long/baby baby all night long). This should be the third single".
Reggae artist Sizzla is also featured on a song and Eve is currently lining up another reggae cameo. "I listen to reggae all the time. It's always been my favorite music because of the melodies," she says. "I also listen to a lot of Brazilian music [and] a little bit of rock, so I wanted to bring all those elements, along with hip-hop."

#40. Evanescence
Biggest Hit of the 00s: Bring Me To Life
Biggest Album of the 00s: Fallen
Other Singles from the 00s: Going Under, My Immortal, Everybody's Fool, Imaginary, Missing, Call Me When You're Sober, Lithium, Sweet Sacrifice & Good Enough.
Biography of the 00s: Evanescence is a Grammy Award-winning American alternative rock band founded in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1998 by singer Amy Lee and former guitarist Ben Moody. After recording two private EPs, and a demo CD named Origin with the help of Bigwig Enterprises, the band released their first full-length album, Fallen, on the Wind-up Records label in 2003. Fallen sold more than 14 million copies worldwide and helped the band win two Grammy Awards. After abrupt changes to the band's lineup, Evanescence released their second studio album, The Open Door, in 2006.
Evanescence was founded by singer, pianist and songwriter Amy Lee and former lead guitarist and songwriter Ben Moody. The two met in 1994 at a youth camp in Little Rock, Arkansas, where Moody heard Lee playing "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" by Meat Loaf on the piano. Their first songs were "Solitude" and "Give Unto Me," written by Lee, "Understanding", and "My Immortal", written by Moody. The songs were edited by both artists, and they shared equal credit.
Two of Lee and Moody's songs found playtime on local radio stations, raising local awareness of the group and demand for a show. The band eventually appeared live, and became one of the most popular acts in the area. After experimenting with band names, such as Childish Intentions and Stricken, they decided on Evanescence, which means "disappearance" or "fading away" (from the word evanesce, which means "to disappear"). Lee has stated she loves the name because "it is mysterious and dark, and places a picture in the listeners' mind".
Their first full-length demo CD, Origin (released in 2000), is relatively unknown. The band also released two Extended plays (EPs). First, the self-titled Evanescence EP (1998) of which about 100 copies were made, and second the Sound Asleep EP, also known as the Whisper EP (1999), limited to 50 copies. Origin and the EPs contain demo versions of some of the songs on their debut album, Fallen. For example, the recording of "My Immortal" found on Fallen can also be found on Origin, minus a handful of additional string accompaniments. Only 2500 copies of this record were produced; in response, Lee and Moody encouraged fans to download the band's older songs from the Internet.
In early 2003, the lineup was completed by Amy Lee and Ben Moody's friends, John LeCompt, Rocky Gray and Will Boyd, all of whom worked on Evanescence's earlier songs. Meanwhile, Evanescence signed on with their first major label, Wind-up Records, and began work on their next album, Fallen. While they were looking to promote Fallen, Evanescence accepted an offer from the video game company Nintendo to perform on the "Nintendo Fusion Tour" which they headlined in 2003.
Fallen spent 43 weeks on the Billboard Top 10; has been certified 6x Platinum; and has sold more than 14 million copies worldwide, including 6.6 million in the United States. The album was listed for 104 weeks on the Billboard top 200, and it was one of eight albums in the history of the chart to spend at least a year on the Billboard Top 50.
Evanescence's major label debut single "Bring Me to Life", which features guest vocals from Paul McCoy of 12 Stones, was a global hit for the band and reached #5 on the American Billboard Hot 100. It provided Evanescence with their first UK #1 listing, where it stayed for four weeks from June-July 2003. The song also became the official theme for WWE No Way Out. The equally popular "My Immortal" peaked at #7 in the U.S. and UK charts, and both songs were featured in the soundtrack for the action movie Daredevil. "Bring Me to Life" garnered recognition for the band at the Grammy Awards of 2004, where the band won the Best Hard Rock Performance and Best New Artist awards and were nominated for two others. The two other singles off Fallen are "Going Under" (#5 US Modern Rock Tracks, #8 UK Charts) and "Everybody's Fool" (#36 US Modern Rock Tracks, #23 UK Charts); all were promoted by a music video.
In 2004, Evanescence's new lineup released a DVD/CD compilation entitled Anywhere but Home. The DVD includes a concert in Paris, as well as behind-the-scenes features, including shots of the band backstage, signing autographs, and warming up. The CD contains a previously unreleased song entitled "Missing", which was internationally released as a single and reached #1 in Spain. Also on the CD are the live songs "Breathe No More" (from the Elektra movie soundtrack), "Farther Away", and the band's cover of Korn's "Thoughtless".
To promote the band's second album, The Open Door, Amy Lee and John LeCompt visited cities in Europe including London, England on September 6, 2006; Barcelona, Spain on September 8, 2006; and Paris, France on Monday, September 11, 2006. At the previews, the new album was played to fans who won various competitions, Lee and LeCompt answered questions and performed acoustic tracks from the album before signing autographs. On October 2, 2006, the day before the album was released in the United States, Evanescence appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and performed the song "Call Me When You're Sober". The band also spent time in New York City for press and a photo shoot for Metal Edge magazine.
The 13-track album was released in Canada and the United States on October 3, 2006; the United Kingdom on October 2, 2006; and Australia on September 30, 2006. The album sold 447,000 copies in the United States in its first week of sales and earned their first #1 ranking on the Billboard 200 album chart, becoming the 700th #1 album in Billboard since the chart became a weekly feature in 1956.
The album progressed slowly for several reasons, including Amy Lee's desire to maximize the creative process and not rush production, other band members' side projects, guitarist Terry Balsamo's stroke, and the controversy surrounding the dismissal of their former manager. Although Lee stated on Evboard that Evanescence's new album would be completed in March 2006, the release was pushed to October 3, 2006, allegedly because "Wind-up Records...wanted to make a few changes to the upcoming single "Call Me When You're Sober", which hit modern rock and alternative rock radio on August 7, 2006. The music video for "Call Me When You're Sober" was shot in Los Angeles and is based on the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood. The Open Door became available for pre-order on the iTunes Music Store on August 15, 2006; the music video for Call Me When You're Sober was also available.
Lee claimed that she wrote a song for the 2005 film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but that it was rejected due to its dark sound. Lee went on to state that it was just "more great stuff for [The Open Door]". Another song supposedly written for Narnia was the Mozart-inspired "Lacrymosa". The producers of Narnia, however, refuted her claim, stating this information was "news to them" and that no Evanescence music had been planned for inclusion in the soundtrack.
The tour for The Open Door began on October 5, 2006 in Toronto and included locations in Canada, the U.S. and Europe during that year. This first tour continued on January 5, 2007 and included stops in Canada (alongside band Stone Sour), Japan and Australia (alongside band Shihad) and then returned to the US for a second tour in the spring (alongside bands Chevelle and Finger Eleven). As part of their tour, Evanescence performed on April 15, 2007 on the Argentinan festival Quilmes Rock 07 along with Aerosmith, Velvet Revolver and other famous local bands. Also, they co-headlined on the Family Values Tour 2007 along with Korn and other bands.

#39. Michelle Branch
Biggest Hit of the 00s: All You Wanted
Biggest Album of the 00s: The Spirit Room
Other Singles from the 00s: Everywhere, The Game Of Love (with Santana), Goodbye To You, Are You Happy Now?, Breathe, One Of These Days, Til I Get Over You & I'm Feeling You (with Santana & The Wreckers).
Biography of the 00s: Michelle Jacquet DeSevren Branch-Landau is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. She made her debut in 2000, and released the platinum-selling albums The Spirit Room and Hotel Paper in August 2001 and June 2003 respectively. During this period, she collaborated with Santana on the single "The Game of Love", which won a Grammy Award. In 2004, she formed the musical duo The Wreckers with fellow musician Jessica Harp.
Branch was born seven weeks premature in Flagstaff, Arizona on July 2 1983 , and was named after the Beatles' song "Michelle". Her father is of Irish ancestry while her Indo mother was born in the Netherlands; her maternal grandmother was from Indonesia and was held in a Japanese internment camp during World War II, while her maternal grandfather was Dutch. She has an older half-brother, David, and a younger sister, Nicole.
Branch started taking voice lessons at a local university when she was 8 years old. She received a guitar for her fourteenth birthday from her uncle. She locked herself in her room and taught herself chords; within a few days she had composed her first song. She focused on the arts during high school, and was writing songs extensively. She attended Sedona Red Rock High School in Sedona but with the support of her parents, decided to continue her high school education through homeschooling, which allowed her to follow her dreams of becoming a singer-songwriter. She had begged her parents to allow her to leave regular high school, and one night at dinner she asked why she had to go back to school, and to her surprise, her father replied with, "Yeah, why does she?" She played clubs for years and released her debut album Broken Bracelet independently in 2000.
She signed a record deal with Madonna's record company Maverick while opening for Hanson in December 2000. Her first album under Maverick, The Spirit Room, was released in August 2001 and went on to sell over one million copies in the U.S. The single "Everywhere" became a worldwide top-twenty hit, and was followed by the U.S. top-ten hit "All You Wanted" and the top-forty single "Goodbye to You". Branch was frequently compared (both positively and negatively) to other singer-songwriters like Alicia Keys, Avril Lavigne, and Vanessa Carlton who rose to prominence at around the same time as she. In 2002 Branch was the lead vocalist on Carlos Santana's song "The Game of Love", which became her first single to reach the U.S. top five; it went on to win a Grammy Award for "Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals".
In 2003, she released her second full-length album, Hotel Paper, which became her second RIAA-certified platinum album but was met with mixed reviews. The lead single "Are You Happy Now?" became another top-twenty hit for Branch in the U.S., but follow-up singles "Breathe" and "'Til I Get over You" failed to achieve substantial success. In June 2004 she hosted MTV's Faking the Video alongside Nick Lachey and JC Chasez.
Branch married her bass player, Teddy Landau, who is 19 years her senior, in Mexico on May 23, 2004. On August 3, 2005, Branch gave birth to a 7lb. 12oz. (3.5 kg) baby girl named Owen Isabelle.
In July 2005 Branch announced the completion of an album with country singer Jessica Harp. The longtime friends and collaborators were dubbed "The Homewreckers" as a joke by Branch's husband, and they shortened it to The Wreckers. The album combined Branch's pop-rock sensibility with Harp's country-folk style. The album was originally due for release in June 2005 but was delayed because of promotional reasons surrounding Branch's pregnancy.
One of the songs Branch co-wrote with Harp for the album was featured on the original soundtrack to the WB television teen drama One Tree Hill. Branch and Harp made a brief appearance as themselves on One Tree Hill, and then went on a month-long concert tour with Gavin DeGraw, !One Tree Hill stars Tyler Hilton and Bethany Joy Lenz. Branch has sung on the television shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer (in the episode "Tabula Rasa") and Charmed (in the episode "Centennial Charmed").
Branch closed down the message boards for The Wreckers' official website in December 2005 after being displeased by comments posted there. The Wreckers' first single, "Leave the Pieces", was released in February 2006; the album Stand Still, Look Pretty was released that May. During this period, they joined country music stars Rascal Flatts and Gary Allan on a sold out U.S. tour.
Branch has written songs for other artists, including one for Mandy Moore's 2007 album Wild Hope. As of 2006, her biggest hits ("Everywhere", "All You Wanted", and "Are You Happy Now?") continue to be played in recurrent rotation on CHR and Hot AC radio stations.
In December 2006, the Wreckers were nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for the song "Leave the Pieces".

#38. Janet Jackson
Biggest Hit of the 00s: All For You
Biggest Album of the 00s: All for You
Other Singles from the 00s: Doesn't Really Matter, Someone To Call My Lover, Son Of A Gun (featuring Missy Elliott & Carly Simon), Come On Get Up, Just A Little While, Feel It Boy (with Beenie Man), I Want You, All Nite (Don't Stop), Ask For More, R&B Junkie, Don't Worry (with Chingy), Call On Me (with Nelly), So Excited (featuring Khia), Enjoy & With U.
Biography of the 00s: Janet Damita Jo Jackson is an American actress, singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, activist, and pop icon.
Jackson is ranked as the ninth most successful act in the history of rock and roll and the second most successful female recording artist of all time in the U.S. behind Madonna according to Billboard magazine. Guinness World Records lists her as the world's most searched-for person in internet history.
Jackson scored ten number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, fifteen number ones on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and seventeen number ones on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart from 1986 to 2007. In addition to her commercial accomplishments Jackson has won five Grammy Awards, received an Oscar-nomination at the 66th annual Academy Awards and was awarded the first 'Icon' award from MTV.
In July 2000, Janet returned to the big screen, with her second film, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, opposite Eddie Murphy. She also contributed to the film's soundtrack with the track, "Doesn't Really Matter", which became Janet's ninth number one pop hit. In March 2001, Janet was awarded a top honor American Music Award 'Award of Merit,' and became the first honoree of MTV's Icon celebration, which resulted in performances featuring Destiny's Child, N'Sync, Pink, Mýa, Usher, Macy Gray, Britney Spears and others.
Janet's seventh album, All for You, was released on April 24, 2001. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and would go on to sell more two million copies in America. The album's title track topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for seven weeks; the second single, "Someone to Call My Lover," peaked in the top five. She would have moderate success with "Son of a Gun (I Betcha Think This Song Is About You)" featuring Carly Simon (remixed by rapper Missy Elliott) which would become a Top 30 hit. It would be the third and final single from the album.
In 2002, "All for You" won Jackson her fifth Grammy Award for "Best Dance Recording" Following this success, she collaborated with reggae singer Beenie Man on the song "Feel It Boy." Janet accepted an invitation to join the 2004 Super Bowl festivities
During the halftime show of Super Bowl XXXVIII on February 1, 2004, Jackson performed with Justin Timberlake to a live audience of more than one hundred million people. During the performance, Janet sang along with Timberlake on his song "Rock Your Body." When Timberlake sang the lyric 'gonna have you naked by the end of this song,' he tore open Janet's top exposing her right breast, which was partially covered by a nipple shield.
Timberlake called the incident a "wardrobe malfunction." Janet apologized, calling it an accident, and saying that Timberlake was supposed to pull away the bustier and leave the red-lace bra intact; however, she later said to an interviewer for Genre magazine that she wished she had not apologized at all, due to the fact that it made her seem guilty to the public. CBS, the NFL, and MTV (CBS's sister network), which produced the halftime show, denied all responsibility under a hail of criticism. Jackson and Timberlake confirmed those denials, but the FCC continued an investigation. In addition to her initial written statement, Jackson also issued a public apology during a video broadcast stating:
“ I am really sorry if I offended anyone. That was truly not my intention...MTV, CBS, the NFL had no knowledge of this whatsoever, and unfortunately, the whole thing went wrong in the end. ”
In 2007, CBS asserted that Jackson and Timberlake had "independently and clandestinely" planned the so-called wardrobe malfunction without authorization.
Janet declined CBS's inviting her to appear at the 2004's The 46th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony, on the condition that she make a another public apology. Jermaine Dupri, Janet's boyfriend, left his post on the Grammy Awards committee after Janet refused to apologize again for the Super Bowl incident. The controversy surrounding the incident halted plans for Jackson to star in a made-for-TV biopic on the life on legendary singer Lena Horne for ABC-TV. Horne reportedly was displeased with the Super Bowl halftime antics and insisted that ABC pull Jackson from the project, which they did.
In March 2004, Jackson's eighth studio album, Damita Jo, was released, debuting at number two. Despite the album's strong debut, its singles: "Just a Little While," "I Want You," and "All Nite (Don't Stop)," failed to become Top 40 hits. "Damita Jo" would continue a sales slide in Jackson's album releases. Janet had described the album as 'a portrait of the many personalities living inside her.' Damita Jo sold one million in the US and just another one million worldwide. It did receive nominations from the American Music Awards, Billboard Awards, Source Music Awards, BET Music Awards, and Grammy Awards including Contemporary R&B Album of the Year although it failed to win any of the nominations. The videos for the singles were rarely shown (and in some cases, never shown) on MTV, VH1, or BET leading to rumors that the music channels had black-listed her.
Janet appeared as a host of Saturday Night Live on April 10, 2004, where she performed a skit that parodied the Super Bowl incident. Janet also appeared in the sitcom Will & Grace playing herself as sitcom character Jack McFarland auditioned to be her back-up dancer.
On June 15, 2005, Janet was awarded a Humanitarian Award by the Human Rights Campaign, a national gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender civil rights organization on behalf of her work and involvement in raising money for AIDS charities. She accepted the award saying
“ what I've learned in these recent months is that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and it's real. It's a beautiful light that both comforts our minds and strengthens our souls. Tonight my heart is filled with gratitude for that light. I'm so grateful that prayers are answered, that faith is rewarded and tolerance is celebrated as a virtue. I'm grateful that God is of unconditional love.''
Janet celebrated her 40th birthday with a birthday bash at Shereen Arazms Shag in Los Angeles. In attendance were many of her former dancers—as well as singer Stevie Wonder, who serenaded her. Jackson appeared on the cover of Us Weekly in June 2006 and it became the magazine's best selling issue ever, outselling issues with Angelina Jolie and Jessica Simpson on the cover.
Virgin Records released Jackson's ninth studio album, 20 Y.O., on September 26, 2006. 20 Years Old, a nod to the twentieth anniversary of Control (and said to reference to how young Janet feels). The release of 20 Y.O. satisfied Jackson's contract with Virgin Records. The 20 Y.O. tour was in talks for about 6 months but the idea has been scratched due to the lackluster performance of the album. Jackson may tour for her next release.
In 2006, it was announced that Jackson was the "Most Searched in Internet History," and the "Most Searched for News Item," in the Guinness Book of World Records. In 2007, Jackson was ranked the 7th richest woman in the entertainment business by Forbes Magazine, amassing a fortune of over $150 million.

Janet really had staying power... her best stuff this decade was back in 2000-01. Ever since then, she's been downhill
