#45. Pharrell Williams
Biggest Hit of the 00s: Frontin' (featuring Jay Z.)
Biggest Album of the 00s: In My Mind
Other Singles from the 00s: I Just Wanna Luv U (Give It 2 Me) (with Jay Z.), Diddy (with P. Diddy), Boys (with Britney Spears), When The Last Time (with Clipse and Kelis), From Tha Chuuuch To Da Palace (with Snoop Dogg), Beautiful (with Snoop Dogg), Excuse Me Miss (with Jay Z.), Change Clothes (with Jay Z.), Light Yo Ass On Fire (with Busta Rhymes), Drop It Like It's Hot (with Snoop Dogg), Can I Have It Like That (featuring Gwen Stefani), Let's Get Blown (with Snoop Dogg and Keyshia Cole), Angel, Wanna Love U Girl (with Robin Thicke), Margarita (with Sleepy Brown), Number One (featuring Kanye West), That Girl (featuring Snoop Dogg), Money Maker (with Ludacris), Sex N' Money (with Paul Oakenfold) & Give It Up (with Twista).
Biography of the 00s: Pharrell Williams (born April 5, 1973) is an American producer, singer, rapper, and songwriter. He is one half of the production duo The Neptunes, where, along with Chad Hugo, he produces hip-hop and R&B music. He is also the lead singer and drummer of the funk-rock band, N*E*R*D. He released his debut single "Frontin'" in 2003 and followed up with his debut album In My Mind in 2006.
As part of The Neptunes, Pharrell has produced numerous hit singles for various music stars. He plays the drums, keyboard, and sings in a falsetto voice. Pharrell's work in The Neptunes has earned them three Grammy Awards amongst ten nominations. He is also the co-founder of the clothing brand Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream Footwear.
Through working with Teddy Riley, Pharrell went on to write Riley's verse for Wreckx-N-Effect's 1992 hit "Rump Shaker" (#2 Billboard Hot 100, 2x Platinum). That same year, he also preformed a small rap solo on SWV's first hit, 'Right Here". In 1994, Hugo and Williams had established themselves formally as a production duo under the previously used name "The Neptunes", and produced "Tonight's The Night" from BLACKstreet's self-titled debut (Riley being a member of BLACKstreet). Over the next three years they continued to produce occasionally. Some of the production had little resemblance to the trademark Neptunes sound present today, including some of the productions for SWV (1996). However, some like Mase's 1998 No.8 (Billboard Hot 100) hit "Lookin' At Me" (from the Harlem World album, and the most definite beginning of the distinctive 'Neptunes Sound', came with N.O.R.E.'s "Superthug" in 1998, reaching #36 on the Billboard Hot 100, and gaining them widespread attention for the first time. The duo then went on to work heavily with Kelis (producing her first album Kaleidoscope in its entirety) and Ol' Dirty Bastard (n***a Please), followed by Mystikal's hit single, "Shake Ya Ass".
In 2001, The Neptunes produced Britney Spears' single, "I'm a Slave 4 U" gaining their first world-wide #1. The same year,Pharrell, Hugo and Haley released their first album as N*E*R*D In Search Of...) in Europe, where the first Kelis album was better received. The album sounded very much like their previous production work; the group decided that they should make their work as N*E*R*D sound different, and re-recorded the album, with the funk-rock band Spymob. The Neptunes also signed The Clipse, a rap duo from Virginia Beach that Pharrell had met back in 1993, to Arista Records through his recently established Star Trak Entertainment imprint.
In 2002 their re-produced album was released worldwide, and The Neptunes reached #1 in the U.S. with Nelly’s single, "Hot in Herre". In August of the same year, The Neptunes were named "Producers of the Year" at both The Source Awards and the Billboard Music Awards. Clipse released their commercial debut album, Lord Willin' on August 20, 2002. The album opened at #1 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-hop Album chart and #4 on the Billboard Hot 200, fueled by the strength of its first two singles, "Grindin'" and "When the Last Time," which peaked at #34 and #19 respectively on the Billboard Hot 100.
2003 saw The Neptunes release a self-credited album called The Neptunes Present... Clones, featuring songs and remixes from various artists. This album topped the US Billboard 200 Albums Chart. The Neptunes and Pharrell specifically were also kept in public eye largely due to ties with Jay-Z, producing several hit singles for him and landing two tracks on his album The Black Album. "Frontin'" was a big summer hit (the 34th biggest single of 2003 according to Billboard Magazine). A survey in August 2003 found the Neptunes produced almost 20% of songs played on British radio at the time, a survey in the US had them at 43%.
N*E*R*D's second funk/rock-oriented album, Fly or Die, released in March 2004. Williams' rock credentials were further bolstered by his appearance at the 2004 Grammy Awards, performing The Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There" on drums along with Sting, Dave Matthews, and Vince Gill. Pharrell went home with two Grammy Awards that night, one for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, and another for Best Pop Vocal Album for his work on Justin Timberlake's No.2 Billboard hit Justified. They also gained their first UK #1, again with Nelly, and Flap Your Wings.
On September 9 2005, Pharrell performed the opening single from his debut solo album "In My Mind", "Can I Have It Like That", featuring Gwen Stefani. The single did poorly in the US, reaching only #48. However, it fared better in the UK, reaching #3. Between then and the release of "In My Mind" (on July 25, 2006), he released "Angel" (Europe only), and later Number 1 with fellow producer/rapper Kanye West. Several songs leaked to the internet before the album's released, most notably "Mamacita" featuring Daddy Yankee, which was subsequently cut from the final version. "That Girl" featuring Snoop Dogg was the final single. which was entirely about his first highschool sweetheart, Tamara Fernandez whom he adored.
On May 16, 2007, for seven days only, the first of two expected collaborations with Madonna, entitled "Hey You," was made available for free download from MSN.com. MSN, in conjunction with Madonna, donated 25 cents for each of the first 1 million downloads to the Alliance for Climate Protection, in support of Live Earth. Pharrell also performed two songs at the Concert for Diana on July 1, 2007. On July 7, 2007 he peformed at the Brazilian leg of Live Earth at Rio de Janeiro. He drives an Enzo Ferrari and a Mercedes SLR McLaren, often wears a trucker hat, was voted the "Best Dressed Man in the World" in 2005 by Esquire. He is a fan of the science fiction series Star Trek, as indicated by his consistent use of the Vulcan salute and choice of label name. He also enjoys the works of the late astronomer and science popularizer Carl Sagan, whom he calls "a genius". Williams has a half-pipe inside his home, and is one of few rappers who skateboards.

Did N.E.R.D. already appear? If so, well done Pharrell for appearing in this list twice... all his featured credits must've added up, and I don't think any of his songs were on his own

#44. Good Charlotte
Biggest Hit of the 00s: I Just Wanna Live
Biggest Album of the 00s: The Young And The Hopeless
Other Singles from the 00s: Little Things, The Motivation Proclamation, Festival Song, Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous, The Anthem, Girls And Boys, The Young And The Hopeless, Hold On, Predictable, The Chronicles Of Life And Death, We Believe, The River, Keep Your Hands Off My Girl & Dance Floor Anthem (I Don't Wanna Be In Love).
Biography of the 00s: Good Charlotte is a pop-punk band from Waldorf, Maryland that formed in 1996. They took their name from a children's book called Good Charlotte: The Girls of Good Day Orphanage by Carol Beach York. They have released four albums in total, most notably 2002's multi-platinum seller The Young and the Hopeless, which spawned the singles, "Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous", "The Anthem", and "Girls and Boys". Their new album, Good Morning Revival, was released on March 19, 2007 in Europe and on March 27, 2007 in the United States. The band is fronted by identical twin brothers Joel (lead vocals and guitar) and Benji Madden (lead guitar and backing vocals). Other members of the band include Billy Martin (rhythm guitar and keyboards), Paul Thomas (bass guitar) and Dean Butterworth (drums and percussion).
From 1996 to 1999, Good Charlotte garnered popularity by playing at clubs and small venues. They soon caught the attention of post-grunge band Lit (whose song "My Own Worst Enemy" was a chart topper at the time). Good Charlotte filled the opening slot on Lit's east coast tour in 1999. Soon after, Good Charlotte played some dates with Blink-182, who had just experienced mainstream success with their Enema of the State album. All of this caught the attention of major music labels, and Good Charlotte eventually signed with Epic Records in 1999. In 2000, they released their self titled debut album Good Charlotte. Y100, a now-defunct radio station in Philadelphia spun Good Charlotte's song "Little Things" before it was released as a single. It ended up being a big success on the station, so big that on Y100's nightly "Cage Match" competition (where new songs were pitted against each other and listeners could vote on which was better), "Little Things" won fifteen nights in a row, beating out bigger names. "Little Things" was later released as a single in early 2001, and soon peaked at #23 on the U.S. Modern Rock Tracks chart. In the second half of the year, two more singles were released from the album, "Motivation Proclamation" and "Festival Song". "Motivation Proclamation" was the most successful single released from the album, peaking at #65 on the U.S. Hot 100. On "Complicated", Joel Madden references an Eric B. & Rakim song ("Came in the door/I said it before").
2002's The Young and the Hopeless marked the band's emergence into mainstream popularity. Their breakthrough single, titled "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous", topped both pop and rock charts around the globe. Singles that followed from that album include "The Anthem", "Girls and Boys", "Hold On" and "The Young and The Hopeless".
The album eventually went on to receive a 3x Platinum certification (3 million copies sold) from the RIAA. During the course of the album's success, Good Charlotte landed appearances on Saturday Night Live, CNN, and The Today Show, the covers of Rolling Stone and Alternative Press magazines, and were also featured in The New York Times. They also became popular on MTV, where their music videos were played in heavy rotation on both MTV and MTV2. "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" received the "Viewers Choice Award" at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.
In 2003, the band added Chris Wilson, who was introduced to the band from mutual friends in the band The Used, as a permanent drummer.
Also in 2003, the band made a cameo appearance in the King Gordy video for "Nightmares".
Good Charlotte's third album, The Chronicles of Life and Death, was released in 2004. The album received mixed reactions from both the music press and Good Charlotte's fanbase. The album has been widely considered a departure from their previous two albums, mixing new elements such as strings, synths, and more mature lyrical topics into Good Charlotte's youthful power pop sound. Singles released from the album include the two hits "Predictable" and "I Just Wanna Live", as well as "We Believe" and "The Chronicles of Life and Death". The only single from The Chronicles of Life and Death which managed to chart upon the U.S. Hot 100 was the hit "I Just Wanna Live". Every single released from the album went top 30 in the UK, excluding "We Believe".
In May 2005, after much speculation from fans, it was officially confirmed that Chris Wilson had left the band citing personal health reasons. Benji also told Kerrang! magazine that, for him, Chris leaving the band was the worst part of 2005. Chris now plays drums in the pop rock band The Summer Obsession.
For Good Charlotte's tour, "Noise to the World Tour" with Simple Plan and Relient K, the band recruited Dean Butterworth, who had previously played for Morrissey, as the band's temporary drummer. In March 2007, Butterworth was confirmed as the band's permanent drummer.
Benji Madden has claimed in interviews that he feels this record was not as successful as the previous record due to it being "too selfish".
Good Morning Revival is the fourth album by Good Charlotte and the follow up to 2004's The Chronicles of Life and Death. It was officially released in March 2007, with the precise date varying by country. Good Morning Revival debuted in the top 10 of thirteen countries worldwide including the U.S., giving the band some of their highest international chart positions thus far. At midnight, on January 23, the forthcoming record was made available for pre-order on iTunes. When pre-ordered, the single, "The River" is downloaded immediately, while the rest of the album is queued to be downloaded on the released date. Pre-ordering on iTunes also provides the exclusive bonus version of the aforementioned single, and a music video of an acoustic session of the song, "Misery".
On Good Charlotte's website, Benji Madden posted a video and announced that the song "Keep Your Hands Off My Girl" would be posted on the band's MySpace. The song premiered on September 22, 2006 online and it is available now to hear at the band's MySpace page and at the Good Charlotte website. Later, a video for the song was posted on the band's MySpace page on October 26, 2006. The first single from the album, "The River", featuring Avenged Sevenfold's lead singer, M. Shadows and guitarist Synyster Gates, appeared online on January 4, 2007. The music video for "The River" was added to UK music channels Kerrang! and Scuzz on the April 13, 2007, indicating that it will be the second single released in the UK. A CD and 7" vinyl was planned to be available to buy for "The River" in the UK on May 21, 2007. But for reasons unknown, these physical releases for "The River" were never released. This hurt the chart position of the song. Dispite significant TV play of the music video in the UK, the song only charted at number 108. "Keep Your Hands Off My Girl" was released as the first single in the UK and Australia. There are 2 music videos for this song, the one posted on the official site in late 2006 and a newer version featuring fans of the band, are currently doing the rounds on the UK rock music video channels. The release date for "Keep Your Hands Off My Girl" was February 26, 2007, for download only and March 12, 2007 in stores. "Keep Your Hands Off My Girl" charted on the UK Singles Chart at 36 the first week of release through download sales and then climbed to 23 when released in stores. The next single in North America is reported to be "Dance Floor Anthem". The video has already been shot and was released on MuchMusic in early May.
The band made multiple U.S. and international TV appearances in support of the album. First, Good Charlotte appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Monday, April 9, the Outdoor Stage on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday, April 11, and on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Friday, April 27. Joel and Benji Madden, Good Charlotte's lead singer and guitarist respectively, co-hosted the Australian MTV Video Music Awards with Fergie on Sunday, April 29 where the band also won the "Viewers Choice Australia" award.
In August 2007, the band embarked on Justin Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveShow tour, as Timberlake's opening act. Good Charlotte will support Timberlake throughout his second leg North American dates. They were present for the August 16, 2007 show in Madison Square Garden, which was taped for a HBO broadcast.

#43. Dido
Biggest Hit of the 00s: Thank You
Biggest Album of the 00s: No Angel
Other Singles from the 00s: Stan (with Eminem), Here With Me, Hunter, All You Want, Don't Think Of Me, My Lover's Gone, Take My Hand, One Step Too Far (with Faithless), Feels Like Fire (with Santana), White Flag, Stoned, Life For Rent, Don't Leave Home & Sand In My Shoes.
Biography of the 00s: Dido Armstrong is a British BRIT Award-winning and Grammy Award-nominated singer and songwriter who performs under a nickname her mother gave her in childhood.
Cheeky Records, to which Dido was signed, was sold to BMG records in 1999. This delayed the release of No Angel in the United Kingdom, but also allowed her to concentrate on promoting the album No Angel in the United States, including a slot on Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair tour. Through touring, both before and after the album was available, Dido's music began to receive more exposure. The first official single chosen by Dido and her label, "Here with Me", was used as the theme music for the television programme Roswell. However, it was arguably the airplay on MTV in Europe of the video for "Here with Me", with its inventive manipulation of context, dreamlike NYC road-walking scenes, together with Dido's evident musicality and the distinctive strings arrangement (all perhaps echoing Massive Attack/Shara Nelson's "Unfinished Sympathy"), that helped form the bedrock of her future success.
In 1998, the music producer for the film Sliding Doors picked her track "Thank You" for the soundtrack. No Angel was first released in 1999, and Dido toured extensively to promote the record.
The rapper Eminem helped introduce Dido to another audience when he sampled the first verse of "Thank You" in his UK number-one single "Stan", after seeking permission from Dido herself; she also appeared in the music video as Stan's long-suffering girlfriend. Interest soared in her debut album, leading it to hit charts in Europe on import sales alone, charting in the top five on the UK albums chart before its official UK release.
No Angel went on to become the top-selling album of 2001 in the United Kingdom, debuting at, and returning to, number one in the official UK albums chart many times throughout the year. It spawned two top ten hit singles, "Here with Me" and "Thank You", and a further top twenty hit, "Hunter". It was certified platinum in over thirty-five countries, and is estimated to have sold over 13.5 million copies worldwide. Dido's widely emulated hairstyle at this time became known as the "Dido flip". After a sold-out worldwide tour (which featured hip-hop artist Pete Miser as her live band's DJ), Dido announced she was taking a sabbatical in 2002, in which time she began to write and record her second album.
Life for Rent was released on 29 September 2003 (world), 30 September 2003 (USA & Canada) and became one of the fastest selling albums in UK music history, debuting at number one in the UK, Ireland, France, Denmark, Switzerland, South Africa, Australia, Greece, Mexico, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand and in the top five in the USA, Italy, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria. Preceded by the number-two hit single "White Flag", the music video for which features Buffy, Angel and Bones star David Boreanaz, the album sold over 152,000 copies in the first day alone in the UK, and went on to sell over 400,000 in the first week. Three further singles — "Life for Rent", "Don't Leave Home" and "Sand in My Shoes" — were lifted from the album, with Dido embarking on a worldwide tour in support of the album (a DVD of footage from the tour was released in 2005 entitled Dido: Live/Dido – Live at Brixton Academy).
Following her sold-out world tour of 2004, Dido was asked to perform at three of the Live 8 concerts on 2 July 2005 — performing in London, then at the Eden Project in Cornwall, before flying over to Paris, performing both solo ("White Flag") and duetting with Youssou N'Dour ("Thank You" and "Seven Seconds").
In late 2005 Dido began recording her third solo album, experimenting with different sounds and producers, including Jon Brion in Los Angeles. The album was originally expected to be released in late 2006, but Dido had stated on her official website that the album would be released in early 2007. Her official website has since begun the process of being relaunched to coincide with the launch of her third album, and now states that a new single will be released at the start of 2008, followed by her new album. A more exact date is yet to come.
In addition to her solo work, Dido has co-written and provided vocals for tracks with Faithless, including "One Step Too Far" — which was released in the UK as a limited edition single, where it debuted at number six — and "No Roots", the title track of the fourth Faithless album. Rollo — Dido's brother — co-writes and co-produces a lot of Dido's solo material, including many tracks on No Angel and Life for Rent. She has provided guest vocals for each of the five studio albums by Faithless, from 1996's Reverence to 2006's To All New Arrivals. Dido worked with her brother on a CD to accompany the children's book he wrote with Jason White, Safe from Harm; the CD is also titled Safe from Harm and the artist is listed as "Dusted". In 2006 she also brought out the song "Christmas Day" it reached #148 in the UK charts. Dido has provided guest vocals to tracks by other artists including "Feels like Fire" for Carlos Santana's 2002 album, Shaman, and a duet with Rufus Wainwright entitled "I Eat Dinner (When the Hunger's Gone)" for the Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason film soundtrack.

#42. Green Day
Biggest Hit of the 00s: Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
Biggest Album of the 00s: American Idiot
Other Singles from the 00s: Minority, Warning, Waiting, Macy's Day Parade, Poprocks And Coke, I Fought The Law, American Idiot, Holiday, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Jesus Of Suburbia, The Saints Are Coming (with U2), Working Class Hero & The Simpsons Theme.
Biography of the 00s: Green Day is an American rock band formed in 1988. The band consists of three core members: Billie Joe Armstrong (guitar, lead vocals), Mike Dirnt (bass) and Tré Cool (drums).
Green Day was originally part of the punk rock scene at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, California. Its early releases for independent label Lookout! Records earned them a grassroots fanbase, some of whom felt alienated when the band signed to a major label. Nevertheless, its major label debut Dookie became a breakout success in 1994 and eventually sold over 10 million copies in the U.S. alone. As a result, Green Day was widely credited, along with their fellow California punk bands The Offspring and Rancid, with reviving mainstream interest in and popularizing punk rock in the United States. Green Day's three follow-up albums, Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning did not achieve the massive success of Dookie, but they were still successful, reaching double platinum, double platinum and gold status respectively. Its 2004 rock opera American Idiot reignited the band's popularity with a younger generation, selling 5 million copies in the U.S.
The band has sold over 60 million records worldwide, including 22 million in the United States alone. They also have three Grammy Awards, Best Alternative Album for Dookie, Best Rock Album for American Idiot, and Record of the Year for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams."
They are currently working on their new studio album set to be released sometime in 2008.
In 2000, Green Day released Warning, a step further in the style that they had hinted at with Nimrod. Critics' reviews of the album were varied. All Music Guide gave it 4.5/5 saying "Warning may not be an innovative record per se, but it's tremendously satisfying". Rolling Stone magazine was more critical, giving it 3/5, and saying "Warning... invites the question: Who wants to listen to songs of faith, hope and social commentary from what used to be snot-core's biggest-selling band? " Though it produced the hit "Minority" and a smaller hit with "Warning," some observers were coming to the conclusion that the band was losing relevance, and a decline in popularity followed. While all of Green Day's past albums had reached a status of at least double platinum, Warning was only certified gold. This decline of sales fueled questions regarding the band's future.
At the 2001 California Music Awards, Green Day won all eight awards that they were nominated for. They won the awards for Outstanding Album (Warning), Outstanding Punk Rock/Ska Album (Warning), Outstanding Group, Outstanding Male Vocalist, Outstanding Bassist, Outstanding Drummer, Outstanding Songwriter and Outstanding Artist.
The release of a Greatest Hits compilation, International Superhits!, and an assemblage of B-sides, Shenanigans followed Warning:. International Superhits and its companion collection of music videos, International Supervideos! sold reasonably well, going platinum in the U.S. Shenanigans sported the band's b-sides, including "Espionage" which was featured in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
In 2002, Green Day co-headlined the Pop Disaster Tour with Blink-182. The tour helped to resurrect some of the band's popularity, and earned the group many positive concert reviews. The band decided to take some more time off after the Pop Disaster Tour closed, to spend more time with their families.
In the summer of 2003 the band went into a studio to write and record new material for a new album, tentatively titled Cigarettes and Valentines. After completing 20 tracks, the master tapes were stolen from the studio. The band, understandably upset, chose not to try to re-create the stolen album, but instead started over with a vow to be even better than before. In this same year, Green Day collaborated with Iggy Pop on two tracks for his album Skull Ring. In addition, they underwent serious "band therapy," engaging in several long talks to work out the members' differences after accusations from Dirnt and Cool that Armstrong was "the band's Nazi" and a show-off bent on taking the limelight from the other band members.
The resulting 2004 album, American Idiot, debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts, the band's first ever album to reach #1, backed by the success of the album's first single, "American Idiot." The album was billed as a "punk rock opera" which follows the journey of the fictitious "Jesus of Suburbia". American Idiot won the 2005 Grammy for "Best Rock Album" and the band swept the 2005 MTV music awards, winning a total of seven of the eight awards they were nominated for, including the coveted Viewer's Choice Award.
Through 2005, the band toured in support of the album with about 150 dates — the longest tour in its career — visiting Japan, Australia, South America and the UK, where they drew a crowd of 130,000 people over a span of two days - one of the largest crowds ever drawn for a rock concert. While touring for American Idiot, they filmed and recorded the two concerts at the Milton Keynes National Bowl in England, which was voted 'The Best Show On Earth' in a Kerrang! Magazine Poll.
These recordings were released as a live CD and DVD called Bullet in a Bible on November 15, 2005. This CD/DVD featured hits from American Idiot as well as a few songs from all its previous albums, except "Kerplunk" and "1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours". The DVD featured behind-the-scenes footage of the band, and showed how the band prepared to put on the show. The final shows of its 2005 world tour were in Sydney, Australia, and Melbourne, Australia, on December 14 and 17 respectively. On January 10, 2006 the band was awarded with a People's Choice Award for favorite group.
On August 1, 2005, it was announced that Green Day had rescinded the master rights to their pre-Dookie material from Lookout! Records, citing breach of contract regarding unpaid royalties that had been ongoing for some time, a complaint shared with other Lookout! bands. The pre-Dookie material, which remained out of print for about a year, was reissued by their current label, Reprise, on January 9, 2007.
In 2006 Green Day won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" which spent 16 weeks at the number one position of Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks, a record it shares along with Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Scar Tissue" and Staind's "It's Been Awhile". Green Day was also nominated for Best Rock Video for "Wake Me Up When September Ends" at the 2006 MTV Video Music awards, but lost to AFI's "Miss Murder". Both the music videos for "Wake Me Up When September Ends" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" retired showing on TRL after being on the top ten for 50 days each.
In September 2006, Green Day teamed up with U2 and producer Rick Rubin to record a cover of the song "The Saints Are Coming", originally recorded by The Skids, with an accompanying video. The song is to benefit Music Rising, an organization to help raise money for musicians' instruments lost during Hurricane Katrina, and to bring awareness on the eve of the one year anniversary of the disaster.
In December 2006, Green Day and NRDC opened a web site in partnership to raise awareness on America's dependency on oil.
Green Day performed John Lennon's "Working Class Hero" on the finale of American Idol Season 6 on May 23, 2007.
The band appeared in a small cameo role in The Simpsons Movie, where they perform the show's theme song. Their version was released as a single on July 24, 2007.
In an interview with Kerrang!, Billie Joe Armstrong revealed that 2008 would "be a fair estimate of the release date of their new "Untitled 8th Studio Abum" which they are currently recording, a follow up to their smash hit 2004 "American Idiot". Billie also says "So far, the songs we're doing are pretty mind-blowing. Yeah, mind-blowing is the phrase I'd use". Green Day's new single "Working Class Hero" will not be featured on the album, rather it is featured on the album "Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur". Also, Green Day and U2's "The Saints are Coming" will not be featured on the album, either. On April 5, 2007, it was confirmed that Green Day would appear in the documentary One Nine Nine Four, a film about punk music in the nineties, that is being narrated by Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk.
