I was first introduced to Christina when I was five years old back in 1998. The movie Mulan had just come out and the hit from that movie, "True To Your Heart" by 98 Degrees and Stevie Wonder, was one of my favorite songs of the moment. However, there was another song from that movie that I ended up loving even more. Back then, we only got Disney channel on the cable box, which I never knew how to work , so I never really watched it at home. I would watch it whenever I was at my Uncle and Aunt's house though, and one day when I was there watching it, they played the music video for her song, "Reflection". I fell in love with the song and her voice and REALLY wanted to know who it was singing that song, but it flopped and that was the only time I heard it until her album came out a year later. Then a year later I saw her sing "Genie In A Bottle" at the 1999 Teen Choice Awards and fell in love with her all over again. I bought her first album around the time it first came out and listened to it ALL THE TIME. However, as much as I loved her back then, I still preferred Britney. What permanently changed that was when she released her album Stripped in 2002. I'm not gonna lie - I bought it only because of her name. I actually never heard "Dirrty" until I bought the album. I bought it a few days after its release and I listened to it on a daily basis up until around the time Madonna released her American Life album. It is still one of my all-time favorite albums and there is not ONE bad song on there!! Plus it sounds soooo good on vinyl!! I loved every song of hers up until the HUGE disappointment that was her 2010 album, Bionic. I have tried so hard to get into that album but I only like 4 or 5 songs. But unlike Britney, Tori, Madonna, and everyone else who I said would've ranked higher if I still liked what they were doing today, she was able to redeem herself with her 2012 album, Lotus , which is actually a really good pop album. Not to mention I LOVED "Your Body" and it has since become one of my favorite Christina songs. I'd love it if she could have a HUGE comeback and become a big star again. She is WAY too talented to only have three hit albums. But unfortunately I am not holding my breath. In the meantime, let's enjoy my favorite song of hers! Julian - do I even need to explain why I am tagging him? Mariah was one of the very first artists I started listening to when I was younger. I loved EVERYTHING she put out at that time - "My All", "Breakdown", "Heartbreaker" (one of my favorite music videos). I don't care about the bad press she has been getting lately - I still love her and think she is one of the best singers ever, but I will admit she once lost me a bit with her 2002 album, Charmbracelet. I know I was going through a phase in 2005 where I was "rebelling" from US pop music, but even back then I loved what Mariah was doing and I was sooo happy that she was doing so well again! She has a lot of fantastic songs, but this one has been my favorite from day 1: I very occasionally heard "Pour Some Sugar On Me" on the radio when I was younger, but I never was very familiar with their music until around 2005 because my Launch station kept recommending them. I got into the even more when I started listening to AT40 shows from the 80's, and even had a running joke on here for awhile in 2006 where my favorite song on the chart was ALWAYS something from Def Leppard! My Dad (whose also a fan) and I saw a concert movie of theirs in theaters last October where they played their 1987 album, Hysteria, in its entirety. It was awesome! I'd love to see them live one day. They have soooo many great songs, but my favorite would definitely be this: I VERY occasionally heard some of their hits when I was a kid, but I didn't start getting into them until around 2004 when M! (I miss this brotha) played some of their songs on the now-defunct Variety FM 104. The more songs from them I heard, the bigger fan I became. I just LOVE everything about Shirley Manson. Her voice, her style, her attitude. She's awesome! What's weird about Garbage though is that although they have been making my chart since 2005, they never went to #1 until 2012! That reminds me - they still put out great music today. "Blood For Poppies" and "Control" are both amazing and sound straight out of the 90's. But this is still my favorite from them in my book! I used to hear "Last Kiss" on the radio back when it was out and I LOVED it. However, I had no idea who sang it until years later, around 2005-2006, which was around the time I began getting into Pearl Jam. Although their last two albums underwhelmed me, I can forgive them when their catalog consists of songs like "Jeremy", "Even Flow", "I Got Id", and the incredibly underrated "Brother". Around the time I started getting into their music, they were getting ready to release "World Wide Suicide" and their accompanying self-titled album which was released in May 2006. "World Wide Suicide" was my #1 song of 2006 and their self-titled is one of my favorite albums from the last decade! "Life Wasted", "Unemployable", "Gone", all still sound great to this day! My favorite song from them though would be this: COMING UP: The top 10!

Can't really argue with any of those, pretty much all as JessieLou-TASTIC as they get... well, if the top 10 weren't top 10!

Love that write-up for Garbage My favourites from them would be a toss up between 'I Think I'm paranoid' and 'When I Grow Up'. "Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go)" was huuuuge here. Seriously go see them live. I know I say this over and over, but they performed ALL their hits and THEN did requests from the audience and NAILED every single one! YES to MIMI and YES to Xtina. I too am blown away that she only has three albums since 1999. What the hell is she DOING with her spare time? Suuuuriously... Okay - top 10 wild guesses for Linda, Grace, Starship, Joan, has Anastasia been (only saying her cos of your current #1 )? Can't remember... Hmmm, who else is there? Prob some obscure 80's girl band Maybe Adele?

I know I say this over and over, but they performed ALL their hits and THEN did requests from the audience and NAILED every single one! I want to so badly but they didn't come to Florida on the last tour. Hopefully the next one! YES to MIMI and YES to Xtina. I too am blown away that she only has three albums since 1999. What the hell is she DOING with her spare time? Suuuuriously... Actually, she had five, but the last two flopped. There's also her Christmas and Spanish albums but I don't really count those. Okay - top 10 wild guesses for Linda, Grace, Starship, Joan, has Anastasia been (only saying her cos of your current #1 )? Can't remember... Hmmm, who else is there? Prob some obscure 80's girl band Maybe Adele? Linda was #16, Joan was #82, Anastacia was #93, and Adele was #91. I also decided to make my life easier and count Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, Starship, and Grace Slick's solo career as one so they are all still to come. Before we begin the top 10, here's a recap of artists 11-100! 11. Pearl Jam 12. Garbage 13. Def Leppard 14. Mariah Carey 15. Christina Aguilera 16. Linda Ronstadt 17. Backstreet Boys 18. Okay, since I have the worst memory ever and can now see the recap, I'll make a few more guesses I can think of five, but I am stumped as to the other half! Heart and Alanis come to mind right away for me. As does Grace (DUH) and Lita. Pat Benatar I think would be a shoe-in. I'm going to throw in a guess at Michael Jackson, since his sis' made it in. Hmmm that leaves 4... I really have no idea. I just try to think of 80's, 90's bands who are probably now too old to pick up an electric guitar Okay, Poison hasn't come up yet. I think I remember you stan'ing them for a while. 3 to guess. Gah! It's probably Sebastian Prospero with his featuring artists Ooooo! Ashlee Simpson? You said you were obsessed with her for a while, but I'll be stunned if she's made it all the way into the Top 10. I don't see her in the above list tho! 2 to guess. Hmmmm. I'm racking my mind at this point, so I'll stab wild guesses at INXS and George Michael to take it out EDIT: Hole! Hole/Courtney for my final guess.

I actually liked INXS with Michael Hutchence. It's that JD Fortune skank that I don't like. Also, I never stanned for Poison. This guy, on the other hand...

I actually heard Rush for the first time back in 2006 on my Launch station. They played "Tom Sawyer" as one of their recommendations. Here's the kicker though... at the time, I thought the song was just okay. Eight years and eight JT40 #1's later, they are now my 10th favorite artist of all-time. I began getting into their music more around 2007-2008 around the time I was an XM subscriber. The three stations that I listened to the most – 80’s On 8, Big Tracks (now called Classic Rewind), and The Boneyard (now called Ozzy’s Boneyard), played them pretty often. By spring 2008, they grew to become core JessieLou artists, and in October 2010, I had the pleasure of seeing them on their Time Machine tour in Tampa and it was AWESOME! I wish I had high quality photos to show you, but my piece of shit phone that I had back then took really bad photos. I should’ve brought my regular camera with me, but I was 18 and stupid. Their most recent album, 2012’s Clockwork Angels, was excellent and I may even go as far to say one of their best albums – in fact, on Sunday I was listening to their 1976 live album, All The World’s A Stage, and when I was listening to it I realized how similar their 2012 song “Headlong Flight” and their 1975 song “Bastille Day” sounded, and the funny thing is, I like “Headlong Flight”, the NEWER song, more! Britney, Madonna, Tori, everyone else who I whined about not putting out good music today, y’all have no excuses because Rush are older than all of you – yes, even Madonna. My favorite Rush song was released in 1993, from their Counterparts album. They NEVER did ballads during their career, but the one time they did was with this f*cking phenomenal song called “Cold Fire”. I actually don’t remember how I first heard about Hole, but I remember hearing the name before back in the 90’s. The earliest memory I have of them is hearing their 1999 hit, “Malibu”, on AOL/Netscape radio back in 2004 and loving it. It wasn’t until a year later when they reached core artist territory with me though – and like Courtney Love’s ex-husband’s band, it was all caused by an album trade, but this time the trade was with @kelownaguy19. He was giving me their 1998 album, Celebrity Skin, and I was giving him… Metamorphosis by Hilary Duff. I absolutely LOVED the Celebrity Skin album upon first listen and it has since grown to become one of my favorite albums of all-time. Granted, two songs from that album were responsible for getting me eliminated in the Song Contest, but it was worth it. I know Courtney Love gets a bad rep, and while I don’t agree with every choice she has made over the years (I can say that about anyone though. I don’t agree with everything Grace does!), I do think that people need to give it a rest already. At least she has cleaned up her act, and has even made up with people she previously feuded with (Dave Grohl, Eric Erlandson, etc.). They have a lot of excellent songs, but my favorite has always been this one:

Rush is one of those classic rock bands that has remained consistently good throughout their career - while their recent stuff is good, my favourite stuff from them is generally the early 80's era.
I've also generally enjoyed Hole/Courtney Love, especially during the "Celebrity Skin" era. Hopefully the Hole reunion of the classic line-up actually happens!

Oasis – one of my favorite bands in the entire world, one of the most successful bands on my chart, and here I am sitting down in front of my computer trying to remember how I was introduced to them to begin with. I truly can’t remember. I remember hearing a mash-up of “Wonderwall” and Green Day’s “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” on the UK chart show back in 2005 when Mike and I listened to it, but I think the earliest memory I really have with them that didn’t involve Jason making my show late by playing “Champagne Supernova” was when I heard their 2005 single, “Lyla” for the first time. Mike recommended it for my chart and when I first debuted it, I liked it, but I didn’t LOVE it. Then between hearing more of their older hits such as “Wonderwall” and “Live Forever”, and listening to “Lyla” more, it quickly grew on me to the point where it shockingly spent a week at #1 on my chart, and as a result, Tori Amos’s single at that time, “Sweet The Sting” settled for #2. Back then, Oasis going to #1 on my chart was considered shocking. That was a loooong time ago. My love for them increased more when I heard their second single from their Don’t Believe The Truth album, “The Importance Of Being Idle”, which was another #1 for me. That was August/September 2005. Then my love for them SUPER INCREASED in Christmas 2005 when I got their 1995 album, (What’s The Story) Morning Glory. During the times that day when I was not with my family, I couldn’t put that CD the f*ck down. That is another album that some may consider overrated but I personally think that it deserves EVERY BIT OF PRAISE that it gets. One of the greatest albums of all-time. Every single track on that album is perfection – “Champagne Supernova”, “Some Might Say”, “Hey Now!”, “Don’t Look Back In Anger”, “Cast No Shadow”, “Roll With It”, and of course “Wonderwall”, which has grown to become one of my top five favorite songs of all-time. I remember one Friday night in August 2009, I was on my computer getting ready to listen to Eddie Trunk’s terrestrial radio show, when all of a sudden Mike comes to my room to tell me, “Noel Gallagher quit Oasis.” I was SOOO upset! And I was even more upset a few days later when Oasis broke up! Five years later and it still hurts. I never even got to see them. I really hope Liam and Noel make up and reunite Oasis. Even if it’s just for one night in Florida, I’ll be happy. I think I am going to let this message that I wrote on my blog the night before he died (May 15, 2010) do the talking: Of all the artists that I was introduced to during the heavy metal phase, Ronnie James Dio was, by far, the best and the most impactful. He had a PHENOMENAL voice and was like nobody else in that genre. RIP.

Only 6 more artists to go! Make that 4 Ladies and gentlemen, this is THE group who got me into music. It is very possible that if it weren’t for this group, I would not be posting on here right now and doing this list. Now that I said that, I’m sure you all are deleting all your Spice Girls MP3’s from your computer. In all seriousness, they really were the first artists I ever LOVED. “Wannabe” is still one of my favorite songs ever. I love all their songs though! And Spiceworld was my first album! I had their dolls, stickers, posters, and I LOVED their candy that they used to have too! One of my favorite memories ever was when I celebrated my sixth birthday back in 1998, I went to this place in Rocky Point with my friends from school, my brother, and obviously my parents since I was only 6. I can’t remember for the life of me what the place was called, but they did birthday parties – they let you paint and do arts and crafts and then there is a room where they play music and you can dance and eat pizza. When we entered that room, they were playing the Spice album! All my friends and I were dancing and having a great time, and it was just a perfect day and a very well done party. To this day my family and I talk about it. My Dad is a fan of classic rock music and the Spice Girls are not his cup of tea AT ALL, but even he said he doesn’t mind them because their music reminds him of when I was little and I had that birthday party. Some may be surprised at the high placement, especially as they have not released a studio album since 2001, but I said from the beginning that a huge part of this list was based on how the artists have impacted me, and they impacted me A LOT. I was very disappointed when they did that reunion tour and they didn’t have any dates in Florida. I did, however, buy the Greatest Hits album at Victoria’s Secret months before it came out everywhere else (not to mention, it gave me an excuse to go to one of my favorite stores ). Oh, and yes, my favorite was Baby Spice. Ever since I started getting into music when I was a kid, a lot of core artists have come and gone. I remember the olden days of when I considered Jessica and Ashlee Simpson core artists. Alanis Morissette, however, is a very rare case as she has been a constant core artist from the very beginning. She has been one of my all-time favorite artists since about 1998, and that has NEVER changed. I was first introduced to her a few months before “Uninvited” came out – she was in between albums. VH1 played all the videos from her Jagged Little Pill album all the time and I loved them. I remember absolutely LOVING “Uninvited” when it came out, and I was so disappointed that it didn’t have a music video because I wanted to see it on the VH1 Countdown. I also remember Mike and I seeing the video for “Thank U” for the first time RIGHT when it first came out – I absolutely LOVED the song (and it’s still my favorite from her to this day), and did not care less that she was naked in the video. Mike, on the other hand, was extremely disturbed by it. I actually got Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie on cassette for Christmas that year and I was SOOO happy! Then, around the time my family and I moved from New York to Florida, “Hands Clean” was always on the radio and on VH1 and I was IN LOVE with that song!! She just knew how to record songs I loved, which was why I was very underwhelmed in 2004 when I first heard her song, “Everything”. The song grew on me later, but at the time it was out I thought it was boring and she even came close to losing her core artist status (especially as the song only got to #9 on my chart). However, EVERYTHING changed when “Eight Easy Steps” came out – what hasn’t been said about that M4BCC classic that’s been said already? If I compiled a list of the top songs that impacted me, “Ate EZ Steps” (as @cdennisfan likes to call it) would most definitely be top 10, maybe even top 5. While I will admit that her last two albums were not among her best work, I still enjoyed them and there are some great songs on both albums – I loved “Guardian”, “Receive”, “Spiral”, and “Woman Down” from Havoc & Bright Lights, and “Straightjacket”, “Versions Of Violence”, and “Tapes” from Flavours Of Entanglement. Oh yeah, there’s also the fact that Jagged Little Pill is my favorite album of all-time and my CD of that album looks extremely f*cked up from the hundreds of times I’ve played it.
