Pretty much all great artists there America had lots of solid tunes in the 70's, and Foreigner, Fleetwood Mac and Phil Collins are all absolutely legendary 70's and 80's acts (and of course, Phil especially in the 90's!) Green Day has usually been fantastic, especially "Dookie" and "American Idiot", my 2 favourite albums from them. 21... Carly Simon? 22... Madonna? 23... Eagles? 24... Chicago?

I became a fan of Nirvana’s after hearing some of their songs – including “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, “Heart-Shaped Box”, and “Come As You Are” – on Devyn’s Variety FM 104 broadcasts. However, what made me a HUGE fan of theirs was when I did an album trade with billcs in early 2006 and he sent me their 1991 album, Nevermind. I LOVED it. A lot of people consider it overrated, but in my opinion it deserves all the credit it has gotten. Plus, I got it on vinyl a few weeks ago and it sounds SO GOOD on my pink Crosley turntable! Oddly enough though, my favorite song from them has always been this one from the follow-up, 1994’s In Utero (which is also a good album)… Tagging @whoselinefan since I know Chicago is her favorite band. Chicago are another band that I always heard on the radio growing up. At the time I thought they were good but not OMGZ AMAZING, but when I became a 70’s whore last year I had a newfound appreciation for their stuff. They are mad talented – how many rock bands do you know that have a SAXOPHONE PLAYER?? And Peter Cetera is one of my favorite male vocalists. Robert Lamm is great too but I like Peter more. Some of my favorites from them include “Look Away”, “Beginnings”, “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?”, “Just You ‘N’ Me”, “Old Days”, “If You Leave Me Now”, “Saturday In The Park”, “Will You Still Love Me”, and my favorite… I've always been an Eagles fan growing up. I heard them on the radio all the time, plus both my parents loved them and they were my late Uncle Dave's favorite band (RIP ). I always loved Don Henley's voice. My favorite songs from them include "Hotel California", "One Of These Nights", "Best Of My Love", "Already Gone", "I Can't Tell You Why", “Witchy Woman”. My favorite from them is “Victim Of Love”, but for some reason the studio version of that song is no longer on YouTube. So enjoy this live performance from 1995! I think I’m going to let my 2013 essay that I wrote to Dan do all the talking. Ever since I started getting into music when I was a kid, Madonna was instantly one of my favorites. But one day in the spring of 2001 I saw her music video for "Don't Tell Me" on VH1 and it changed everything. I didn't just love her, I was OBSESSED with her. I started buying all her albums (although my Dad wouldn't let me buy Erotica ), I had photos of her on my wall all over my room, I always anticipated her videos to come on VH1, and "Don't Tell Me" was even the first song I ever downloaded online (yes, it was through Napster ). Things calmed down a bit in between the Music era and "Die Another Day" because I was, for some reason, really into Avril Lavigne. But when "Die Another Day" came out, the obsession started again. I VERY highly anticipated her American Life album. I remember when AOL Music premiered the song and I wouldn't stop playing it. Before my chart went online, it spent 8 weeks at #1 on my chart. The follow-up, "Hollywood", spent 11 weeks at #1 on my chart and held the record for longest-running #1 on my chart until Alanis Morissette broke the record a year later with her 12-week #1, "Eight Easy Steps" (Lita broke the record last year with "Living Like A Runaway", which was #1 for 14 weeks). To see more about her chart success: jessicastop40.wikinet.org/wiki/Madonna jessicas-top-40.wikia.com/wiki/MadonnaAlso, fun fact that I don't think I've ever mentioned before, but I somewhat threw a hissy fit when my Dad wouldn't let me get the parental advisory version of American Life. I had to go to Wal-Mart and get the edited. I also remember through Madonna's official web store my Dad got me a HUGE poster of her from the "American Life" video. I also started buying a lot of her singles through Amazon. I was a major collector at this point. The first five months of my chart in 2004 were very... inactive. The reason for this is because at this point, ALL I was listening to was Madonna. AOL/Netscape had an all-Madonna station and that was what I listened to. I was in a funk because in October 2003 I ended a friendship with a friend of mine named Camille, and on top of that I started getting bullied by other classmates, so I had a "why bother with people?" kind of attitude, and for months all I did was eat, sleep, go to school, and listen to Madonna... oh, and that F*cking cartoon doll site. The less said about THAT, the better. But anyway, I'm not exactly proud of that era of my life but whatever. I fully admit that this obsession started getting unhealthy. As I said before, I started collecting her CD singles. On Christmas 2003, I got a bunch of them including her 1993 single, "Bad Girl". I REALLY started getting into the song to the point where I would have it on repeat for hours (as well as the video and SNL performance). On May 22, 2004, my Dad got so fed up he took the CD away from me. More info here: freakyflybry.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=wackynews&action=display&thread=27261After that, I stopped listening to it constantly because that was a really shitty weekend and TO THIS DAY, I never put a song on repeat constantly except once in awhile but I have to have headphones on. But I am much more careful. I still listened to the Radio@Netscape all Madonna station but she has a huge discography of music and they played the same songs from her!! In July 2004, I became a DJ for Variety FM 104, which was M4B's affiliated radio station at the time. Basically what Jammin' 95 is today. Around that time I started listening to less Madonna and more Variety FM (Adam In The AM was the best! ). My chart started getting active again, and the aforementioned Alanis song "Eight Easy Steps" was like my absolute favorite new song at that time and made me re-love Alanis (I was always a fan but was very disappointed with the previous single "Everything"). So Madonna stopped being my favorite in favor of Alanis and for a long time I would never listen to Madonna because I was so BURNT OUT on her. A lot of people thought I stopped liking her but that wasn't the case at all, I was just super sick of her. So yeah, God knows where I'd be now musically if it wasn't for M4B and Variety FM. Now that I’m no longer burnt out on her, she’d probably still be a core artist today if she didn’t try so hard to be 21. She was one of my favorites growing up and I still looove her old stuff but she’s just ridiculous now. :/ I have WAY too many favorites from her but my top three are “Take A Bow”, “Secret”, and this… I started really getting into Carly’s music around June/July of this year, and now it’s October. And she’s all the way at #21. If that’s not F*cking impressive, I don’t know what is. Anyway, I was first introduced to Carly Simon when I was about 8 or 9 years old, when Janet Jackson released "Son Of A Gun" as a single. Mike told me that it sampled a song called "You're So Vain", which I heard shortly after that. Even back then, I loved it. I thought it was SO catchy! Even though that is still my favorite song from her to this day, it wasn't the song from her that caused me to check out more of her material and, as a result, become a core artist. Back in April, AT40 did a 1974 show where her duet with then-husband James Taylor, "Mockingbird", was on the chart, and considering that both of them are more well known for softer, more mellow music, I was shocked at how upbeat and catchy it was. I HAD to have this song in my music library!! I then started discovering more songs of hers through AT40, such as "You Belong To Me", "The Right Thing To Do", and "Attitude Dancing". I now own all her 70's albums on vinyl and almost all her 80's ones (I still can't find Spoiled Girl or Coming Around Again anywhere!). Believe it or not though, but I am actually NOT the biggest Carly fan I know. My Mom has been a huge fan since her debut and she's her favorite female artist. As I put it to Courage last weekend, "She's her Grace. Or in your case, her Celine. Or in nobody's case, her Kris Kardashian." COMING UP:
16. This artist has sung a wide variety of music – children’s, jazz, Spanish, Plow King themes, you name it! 17. During this group’s heyday, they sold out concerts in less than five minutes. 18. “I never really felt like I was part of the band.” 19. Hey look! A band who JUST released a new single! 20. A 90’s alternative band from Ireland.

All great artists there Glad Madonna still holds up well, and that the AT40 70's shows have kept the Eagles, Chicago and Carly Simon high and your love for 90's alternative rock has kept Nirvana high too! 16... Linda Ronstadt? 18... Journey? 19... Foo Fighters? 20... The Cranberries?

Actually, I can think of 21 artists that could still be to come. I'll reveal which one I thought would've made it after the list is revealed.
Oops, I miscounted... I had someone twice. So I think I know which 20 artists are still to come.

I actually cannot remember for the life of me how I was introduced to The Cranberries, which is bizarre considering what huge favorites of mine they have become over the years. “Zombie” is one of my favorite songs of all-time. Dolores O’Riordan’s voice is very distinctive and there’s just something about it that I really adore. Her 2007 solo album, Are You Listening?, was UNDERRATED PERFECTION. Some of my favorite Cranberries songs aside from “Zombie” include “Salvation”, “Stars”, “Promises”, “Linger”, “Just My Imagination”, “New New York”, “Free To Decide”, and “Ridiculous Thoughts”. I was first introduced to the Foo Fighters in VERY early 2000. VH1 used to play their music video for “Learn To Fly” all the time when it was out. I liked the song (although I like it more now), but I always thought the video was hilarious, especially the scenes where Dave Grohl was in pigtails. In 2005, I went through a phase for a few months where I called them the “Eww Fighters” (right up there with “The Eeek! Gees”) because I thought “Best Of You” was a total screamfest – and I even called that one “Worst Of Foo”. By early 2006 though I stopped my haterade ways because I was introduced to JAMS such as “ Prince Monkey Wrench”, “I’ll Stick Around”, and my favorite, “Everlong”, and they quickly became one of my favorite bands (and “The Pretender” was a HUGE favorite of mine in 2007). I have since grown to like “Best Of You”, but it’s one of my least favorites from them and I don’t really go out of my way to listen to it. Journey are one of those bands who I heard all the time when I was a kid and I loved them, but I had no idea who sang those songs. It was around 2006 when I ended up discovering that a lot of the songs that I loved growing up – such as “Who’s Crying Now”, “Open Arms”, and “Faithfully”, were by Journey, and I quickly grew to LOVE them. Steve Perry’s solo stuff, especially “Oh Sherrie” and “Foolish Heart”, are also perfection (and I used to hear those on the radio when I was younger too). I really wish they would reunite with Steve Perry because I cannot accept them with any other singer. His voice is a HUGE favorite of mine. But, you know, he never really felt like he was part of the band. Some other favorites of mine from them include “Send Her My Love”, “Just The Same Way”, “Stone In Love”, “When You Love A Woman”, “If He Should Break Your Heart”, “Wheel In The Sky”, “Still They Ride”, and my favorite… One of the first groups I ever loved! I’ve been a BSB fan from the very beginning, and I still love them. I wasn’t crazy about their 2007 and 2009 albums, so much that I don’t even remember what they were called. But their music totally brings me back to the late 90’s/early 2000’s when pop was pure fun pop and not this stupid annoying ass EDM porn shit. I love *NSYNC and no disrespect to them, but I always preferred BSB. Some of my favorites from them include “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)”, “All I Have To Give”, “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”, “I Want It That Way”, “Larger Than Life”, “Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely”, “The One”, “Incomplete”, “Drowning”, “Shape Of My Heart”, and my favorite… We all know that no artist from the “70’s Whore” era had as much of an impact on me as Grace Slick. However, if there is anyone that comes even a LITTLE bit close, it’s Linda Ronstadt. When I first started listening to AT40 shows from the 70’s, I was introduced to some of her hits such as “That’ll Be The Day” and “Ooh Baby Baby”. However, one day I was playing the game SongPop on Facebook and a clip of her song, “You’re No Good” came up. I thought the clip sounded really good, so I went on Spotify to listen to it. IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST LISTEN!! It was such a FEMALE ROCKER ANTHEM and SO JESSIELOU omg. I became curious to check out more of her songs and quickly became a MAJOR fan. I own all her albums from 1969-1983 on vinyl. I liked her 60’s band The Stone Poneys but not as much as her solo material (although I do love “Different Drum”). She has an AMAZING voice and it is such a shame that Parkinson’s has silenced her. One thing that I love about her is that she has experimented with so many different styles of music – she has done pop, rock, R&B, jazz, country, children’s, folk, and Spanish music. I believe she was also in a musical back in the 80’s. “You’re No Good” will always be my favorite from her, but other favorites of mine include “When Will I Be Loved”, “Heat Wave”, “The Tracks Of My Tears”, “It’s So Easy”, “Tumbling Dice”, “That’ll Be The Day”, “Back In The U.S.A.”, “Hurt So Bad”, “I Can’t Let Go”, “How Do I Make You”, “Somewhere Out There”, “Don’t Know Much”, and “All My Life”. I feel like I just name-dropped her entire discography. Goes to show how FLAW-FREE she is! COMING UP:
11. They were big names on my chart back in 2006, and had a HUGE #1 hit with a major Bush-bashing anthem! 12. You wouldn’t think that a band with this name would be my 12th favorite artist of all time – hell; you wouldn’t think a band of this name would have ANY fans. 13. Last year, I saw a concert movie in theaters starring this rock band. I don’t remember if I ever mentioned going to see it on here. If you want to cheat, I’d recommend going in the October 2013 Chit-Chat thread to see if I mentioned anything about going to the movies. 15. Two words: assless chaps.

All great artists there The Cranberries and Foo Fighters are among the best in 90's rock, Journey really had a sound that defined the 80's, the Backstreet Boys had a lot of great songs and are one of my favourite boybands (love the nostalgia their music gives me), and Linda is great too (no surprise she ranks high!) 11... Pearl Jam? 12... Garbage? 14... Mariah Carey?

Ooooo I hope 12 is Garbage! STILL the best live concert I've ever been to, and Shirley had a GOLD-encrusted microphone stand!! Probably fake, but as far as I'm concerned, it was real 14 has to be the Diva herSELF. Although, she should be Top 10 15 has to be George Michael
