Faithless now holds that record on my chart. The UK dance producers first appeared on my chart in March 1999 with "God Is A DJ", and got to #1 in 2021 with "Synthesizer" (featuring Nathan Ball), a gap of almost 22 years.

My current #1's artist holds this record now, Foo Fighters. First song charted in 1997; "Run" is their first #1, in 2017. Prior to that the longest was Daft Punk (1997 first charted; 2015 first #1), and Hanson (1997 first charted; 2011 first #1) prior to that. Foo Fighters still holds this record for me, but Pink is now second (2000 first charted; 2019 first #1) Elton John took this record for me in 2021, while AC/DC nearly took it: Longest time between first charted song & first #1 Sunday, 14 September 1997 Something About The Way You Look Tonight - Elton John Sunday, 7 November 2021 After All – Elton John & Charlie Puth Sunday, 18 May 1997 Monkey Wrench - Foo Fighters Sunday, 9 July 2017 Run – Foo Fighters Sunday, 11 February 2001 Satellite Blues – AC/DC Sunday, 24 January 2021 Kick You When You're Down – AC/DC

The record on my chart is Daft Punk, who first charted in 2001 with One More Time. They didn't chart again until Get Lucky in 2013. The time between their first week on my chart and their first week at #1 is 12 years, 2 months and 16 days. Second place is Dave Matthews Band who had 10 years, 10 months and 7 days between their first charting single and when Funny The Way It Is hit #1 in 2009. Sia took nearly 9 years from 2006 to her first #1 (California Dreamin') in 2015. Comparatively, the artists with the most charting songs between their first hit and first #1 is a 3-way tie. Nicki Minaj, Sia and Carly Rae Jepsen all hit #1 for the first time on their 21st charting song. Carly's came just a few weeks ago with Cut To The Feeling. Since this post, the record has been broken. And within the couple months after it was broken, there were others who would have broken it had it not already been broken. Daft Punk moved down to 5th place. • 20 years, 2 months, 19 days | Mandy Moore [October 16, 1999 - January 4, 2020] • 19 years, 12 days | Sarah Harmer [January 6, 2001 - January 18, 2020] • 17 years, 9 months, 11 days | Nas [May 4, 2002 - February 8, 2020] • 15 years, 10 months, 26 days | Hawksley Workman [March 20, 2004 - February 15, 2020] • 12 years, 2 months, 16 days | Daft Punk [April 7, 2001 - June 22, 2013] And where Nicki, Sia and Carly held the record for most charting songs before their first #1, that too was broken when Taylor Swift hit #1 with her 30th charting song with "...Ready For It". UPDATE! I realized I didn't update to account for the newest (and current!) #1 by... Elton John. He now holds the record. • 21 years, 7 months, 26 days | Elton John [April 8, 2000 - December 4, 2021] Interestingly, if my chart extended further back beyond 1998, he definitely would have charted with his earlier singles. I like to use a general start-point of 1994 for when my chart could have hypothetical began, and I don't think he would have topped my chart with his singles from 94-98 (though top tens were likely) so that makes his #1 right now even more impressive!

24 years. Take That. First charted in 1983. First #1 in 1997 "Patience" Shouldn't that be 1993 and 2007? Either way, it's only 14 years...

It may not be a record or close to it, but still merits a mention. 16 years ago, JessieLou made her chart debut for me with "Ugly Vegas". 16 years later, she has her first #1 with "My Opinion".

2 weeks later I have an update. After first debuting in 2000 with "Swear It Again," Westlife scored their first #1 on my chart this week with "Starlight, a 22 year wait. If this is not the record, then it's pretty close!

Anastacia scores her first #1 on my chart this week with "American Night." Her first hit was "I'm Outta Love" back in 2000, making her the 2nd artist this year after Westlife to get their first chart topper this year after debuting in 2000.

Again, while not the record, it's still notable. Paramore first charted in 2007 with "Misery Business" and now, nearly 16 years later, they have their first #1 on my chart with "The News".

Two artists who hit #1 in my chart's very first year are among the artists on the song that has hit my #1 spot this week.
Debbie Harry first charted in 1999 as lead singer of Blondie on "Maria" in the spring. Later in the fall, Gloria Estefan charted alongside 'N Sync on "Music Of My Heart". 24 years later, their collaboration is #1, "Gonna Be You".
Cyndi Lauper first charted in 2005, Dolly Parton in 2009 and Belinda Carlisle in... 2013 or so?
