Week 63 – May 12^th, 2012

As predicted last week the edition for chart #63 for the week ending 13th march is posted a little bit late. The week in Rome with my school class has been fantastic. The weather was great and it was nice to see some things I’m talking about every year in front of the students. One song which hasn’t been in a position for the number one spot is reaching this part this week. It is an Italian song. How else could it be? “Non e’ l’inferno” is the hymn for this special week. With this song Emma is scoring her second #1 song this year. Therefore Irish band The Brilliant Things had to leave after only one week. “Dance” dropped down to #3. Top contender for next week is now Stef Lang with “Paper Doll” which climbed 3-2. Only one song is new within the Top 10. C½ur de Pirate scores her third Top-10-Hit in a row with “Golden baby” at #9 and is replacing German band Mia. with “Fallschirm” which dropped from 8 to 14.

The highest new entry comes from Kate Voegele. The album track “Say you’re mine” gives its debut at #29. This track expected to entered the top songs within the next few weeks. Kate Voegele has one more new song within the Top 100. Her other song “Burning the harbor” missed the Top 50 by one spots. Between these two Voegele songs landed the new single by Emma. “Cercavo amore” debuts at #45. Sons of Midnight are the greatest gainer of the week with their single “The fire”. During the long bus trip to Rome and back “The fire” improved so much that Sons of Midnight sprinted from 73 to 20. The highest new entry beside Emma and Kate Voegele comes from Keane. Their recent hit song “Silenced by the night” is their first chart appearance and landed at #58. In general there are 10 new entries. The others are “Lovesick” by All About Maggie (#71), “Here is to us” by Halestorm (#76), “Genesis” by Mobilée (#80), “Scream” by Usher (#81), “Daylight” by Run Kid Run (#86) and “Primadonna” by Marina and The Diamonds (#87).

Week 64 – May 19^th, 2012

One week ago “Non é l’inferno” escorted me through Rome and would always remind me to this week. Therefore Emma scored her second #1 song, but “Non é l’inferno” couldn't hold this position longer than a week. New at the summit is Canadian singer Stef Lang. “Paper doll” is a very interesting song with a good video which is transporting the message in a special way. Austrian band Krautschädl reached the podium with “Khoids Wossa”. Both songs “Paper doll” and “Khoids Wossa” are in a battle for next week’s number one. At the moment it isn’t clear which song would get the #1. Kelly Clarkson reached with another song from her last album “Stronger” the Top 5. “Dark side” climbed 6-5. All in all two songs are new in the Top 10. At #7 Carrie Underwood gives her Top 10 debut with “Good girl” and at #9 Iceland band Of Monsters and Men continued their climb with “Little talks”.

In general there isn’t a lot of movement during my Top 50 this week. The biggest climber into the Top 50 is “Lovesick” by All About Maggie. Last week “Lovesick” debuted at #71 and this week it climbed up to #45. The greatest gainer of the week is “Primadonna” by Marina and The Diamonds. After the first time I listened to this song I had my problems with it, but now I’m starting to like this song more and more. Especially the refrain. “Primadonna” is now at #57. The hot shot debut comes from Simple Plan feat. Sean Paul with “Summer paradise”. Once more a song I didn’t preferred with the first listen, but due to massive airplay here in Austria – “Summer paradise” reached #7 this week – I connect this song with summer feelings. So this song debuts at #49. “Summer paradise” is the only high new entry this week. The other 11 new entries can be found below #80, but maybe there are some sleepers like “Payphone” by Maroon 5 feat. Wiz Khalifa at #87 or “Make a move” by Royal Tailor at #97. The other new entries are “Ménage à trois” by Austin Brown (#81), “Over you” by Miranda Lambert (#83), “Unity” by Shinedown (#86), “Believe in us” by Aelyn (#88), “Like a girl in love” by Elen Levon (#92), “Dry my soul” by Amanda Jenssen (#94), “Lie to me” by Kristen Williams (#95), “Work of art” by Rachel Platten (#98) and “Sweet misfortune” by Ming Bridges (#100).

Week 65 – May 26^th, 2012

I’m a little bit euphoric because it took more than a year for an Austrian group to get a #1 position. The last time Any Major Dude with “July July” represented Austria at the #1. It had been my opening #1. This time it is a German dialect rock song by Krautschädl. “Khoids Wossa” reached as fast as last week’s #1 “Paper doll” this position and is so far the 12th #1 in 2012, but this song has the chance to stay longer. Stef Lang only hold the #1 for one week with “Paper doll” and dropped down one spot. In the meantime Kelly Clarkson’s latest smash hit “Dark side” reached #3. The Top 5 is completed by Carrie Underwood’s “Good girl” which climbed 7-5. Leaving the Top 10 are Emma with “Tra passione e lacrime” and after only one week Of Monsters and Men with “Little talks”. So the way has been free for Shary-An from the Netherlands. Her catchy song “Read my book” rose up to #9. And Eurovision Song Contest starter Soluna Samay climbed up four with “Should’ve known better” to #10. So far this is the best Song Contest song in 2012 in my chart. Sadly it didn’t win the contest and it wasn’t even near to win, but I still like this song.

The best 20 songs of my countdown have to offer some more fresh new songs. First to mention is Kate Voegele with “Say you’re mine” at #14 which is climbing up the chart fast. Also doing well are Ryan Star with “Stay awhile” at #16 who has now a follow up hit to last year’s “Start a fire” and Viky Red with “If you ever feel” at #20. The highest new entry comes from Toph Taylor. Earlier this year he announced the end of his project Trouble over Tokyo. With his last single “Lockpick” from the Simplify EP he debuts at #47. The greatest gainer comes from Maroon 5 in cooperation with Wiz Khalifa. Their song “Payphone” rose 41 spots to #46. With the re-release of the cover of the 1967 song of “Ain’t no more room” – a song from The Kittens (Who has heard of them before?) – Jasmine Kara gets her debut at #69. Originally she released this cover in 2010. Chart edition #65 shows 11 new songs. Beside the mentioned new songs you can find Taylor Swift with “Eyes open” (#76), Mike Ruocco with “Too late” (#82), The Fires with “Rock’N’Roll star” (#85), We Are The In Crowd feat. Week 66 – June 2 ^nd, 2012

There is no surprise at this week’s top spot. Austrian local band Krautschädl is holding the #1 for one more week. Only one week to go for them to tie this year’s record with Lana Del Rey and Anouk who hold the #1 for three weeks. In a very inactive week Stef Lang could hold #2 with “Paper doll”, but she is under pressure. Carrie Underwood scores her first Top 3 hit with “Good girl”. If she uses the momentum she could go to #2 next week and then we will see. Also doing well is Canadian singer C½ur de Pirate. Obviously she has a lot of staying power. In her 12th week with “Golden baby” she reached #5. So far this is her best track on my countdown. Only one artist is new in this week’s Top 10. Congratulations to Kate Voegele. With “Say you’re mine” she reached this part of my chart for the fourth time by climbing 14-9 and replacing former #1 Matt Cardle with “Starlight which is still at #11 in its 18th week.

Let’s have a look at spots 11 to 20. Here you can find the highest new entry. Joe Bonamassa, who is part of the Black Country Communion, released his 10th solo album “Driving towards the daylight” which entered this week the Austrian album charts at #13. His first single is the title track “Driving towards the daylight”. This blues rock song is his first chart entry and debuts at #13. Pushing forward is Rumanian singer Viky Red with “If you ever feel” at #14. And Emma scores her third top hit with her latest single “Cercarvo amore” (Looking for love). In Italy she reached this week the #1 spot and on my chart she landed at #20. This week I haven’t one greatest of the week. I’ve three! These songs climbed up 15 spots. These are once more Maroon 5 feat. Wiz Khalifa with “Payphone” (#31), Taylor Swift with “Eyes open” (#61) and based on her performance at the Eurovision Song Contest Nina Zilli with “L’amore è femmina” (#43). Speaking of the Eurovision Song Contest I have to tell that two more songs of this contest made it to my chart. This year the winning title “Euphoria” by Loreen gives its debut at #71 while I didn’t chart last year’s winner. And Spanish singer Pastora Soler entered at #94 with “Quédate conmigo” (Stay with me).

But there are ten more new entries. Week 67 – June 9 ^th, 2012

As the last of the Mohicans Austrian band Krautschädl is waiving the flag of Austria. Only one song by an Austrian band can be found in this week’s edition and they have the #1 song of the week. “Khoids Wossa” is holding this position for the third week in a row which equals this year’s record set by Anouk’s “Little did I know” and Lana Del Rey’s “Blue Jeans”. One more week to go and Krautschädl could equalise the week’s at the top for an Austrian band. Behind Krautschädl Carrie Underwood and Stef Lang changed the positions. So Carrie Underwood is in the runner’s up position with “Good girl”. Only Mic Donet with “Losing you” failed to reach #1 after reaching #2 this year. So the chance is high to see “Good girl” leading the pack in the near future, but maybe Krautschädl uses the momentum for one more week at #1. New in the Top 5 is Kate Voegele with her catchy song “Say you’re mine” which sprinted 9-4 in its 4th week. Some songs in the rest of my Top 10 changed the positions. And there is one new song within the top songs. Viky Red is the first artist from Romania reaching this part of the chart. “If you ever feel” climbed 14-10.

Last week’s highest new entry “Driving towards the daylight” failed to climb into the Top 10, but there is a lot of time to make it. On the other side there is strong competition behind. Ryan Star’s “Stay awhile” (#13), Emma’s new single “Cercavo amore” (#15) and again Kate Voegele with “Burning the harbor” (#18) are in promising positions. Or will it be someone else? Maybe this week’s highest new entry? “All this love” is a Swiss production where Yvan Peacemaker teamed up with William White and Peter King. Yvan Peacemaker has worked as a successful producer for years and with his first single from his debut solo album “The elixir” he debuts at #39. Or is it the greatest gainer of the week? Haley Reinhart stormed to #40 with “Free” after a debut at the bottom of the chart. Beside Yvan Peacemaker there are some other interesting new entries. First to mention is Kelly Clarkson. Two more songs from her album “Stronger” give their debut. “You love me” at #53 and “Honestly” at #54. Dragonette who had last year a #1 in Austria with “Hello” entered with “Let it go” at #73. And don’t to forget Simonetta Spiri. She released her third single “Fragile”, but there is still no album in sight. “Fragile” entered at #79 and has the possibility to reach the Top 20 as her other singles did. The other new entries are “Bury my bones” by Pure Love (#65), “Sweater weather” by The Neighbourhood (#75), “Picking up the pieces” by Paloma Faith (#85), “Light me up” by Lonsdale Boys Club (#86), “Tacata” by Tacabro (#92 – this could be the summer hit in middle Europe), “Happiness” by Trijntje Oosterhuis (#94 a song written by Anouk), “Click click click” by Stilettos (#95 – a cover of 2010’s song “Stilettos” by Sirens) and “One heart at a time” by Vienna (#97).

Week 68 – June 16 ^th, 2012

Nothing is new at the top of my chart. “Khoids Wossa” is staying at the top position for the fourth week in a row matching the record for an Austrian band. Next week Krautschädl could do it for a record of five weeks. The chance is good, but Carrie Underwood is still in a good mood after holding the runner’s up position with “Good girl”. Completing the podium is Kate Voegele. “Say you’re mine” is climbing up the chart and this song could be her first #1 since “Sandcastles” reached this spot last year. The Top 5 is completed by two former #1`s. Stef Lang’s “Paper doll” is now at #4 while Emma’s “Non e’ l’inferno” had a little comeback by climbing up two spots to #5. Apropos speaking about Emma. She has now two songs in my Top 10. Her latest Italian smash hit “Cercavo amore” climbed 15-9 and is now her third song to reach this section. With Joe Bonamassa’s “Driving towards the daylight” at #7 and Ryan Star’s “Stay awhile” at #10 are two more fresh new songs in the Top 10. Unfortunately Viky Red is a victim of these songs. His single “If you ever feel” left the Top 10 after only one week and is now at #12. Maybe he is coming back next week, but the concurrence is hard.

The highest new entry as well as the greatest gainer of the week comes from Canada. Last year Dragonette reached in Austria the #1 with Martin Solveig and “Hello”. With their latest hit song “Let it go” they climbed 73-38, but I doubt that they have international success with this song although this song has everything to do well. The other Canadian artist is Suzie McNeil. “Tough love” is her latest single and promotes her upcoming album. “Tough love” gives its debut at #39. Last week I criticized the fact that I only charted one Austrian artists. This week I chart three acts and this means that there are two new entries by Austrian artist. Let’s start with Julian le Play which is the pseudonym for Julian Heidrich. He was part of the Austrian casting show “Helden von Morgen” (Heros of tomorrow) and had one hit with “Australian gate”. Changing the singing language to German was the best he could do and so he has moderate success with “Mr. Spielberg”. It took a while, but now it debuts #69. The other artist is Keiner mag Faustmann. The band’s name is a wordplay with the family names of the group members Lisa Keiner and Robi Faustmann, who had a solo hit with “Neuer Wind” in my chart last year. The band’s name Keiner mag Faustmann means Nobody likes Faustmann. With their first single they enter my chart at #97. Other new entries are coming from Ne-Yo with “Burnin’ up” (#74), 4minute with “Volume up” (#75), Love and Theft with “Angel eyes” (#82), Jessie J. feat. David Guetta with “Laserlight” (#85), Annalisa with “Giorno per giorno” (#90), The Nycer feat. Deeci & Taleen with “Freaky” (#92), Alexandra Burke with “Let it go” (#93), Marcus Collins with “Mercy” (#96), Ewert And The Two Dragons with “Good man down” (#98) and Lidia Fusaro with “La mia bugia” (#100).

Pastora Soler only reached my chart, because I enjoyed the Song Contest performance, but sadly it doesn't impressed me so much to let this song move up to Top 40.

Week 69 – June 23 ^rd, 2012

The domination of the Austrian group Krautschädl ended now, but maybe they return. This week US country star Carrie Underwood is leading the pack. With “Good girl” the first country pop song is leading my chart. If she is getting a second week at the top depends on three factors. The first factor is the question if I give “Khoids Wossa” a comeback at the top, because this week’s decision has been very tough and I really like this song. Next is Kate Voegele who is also very strong with “Say you’re mine” which easily could lead if these other two songs weren’t on my list. And then I’ve to come to the third reason why Carrie Underwood only would stay at the top for one week. It’s this week’s highest new entry. Alanis Morissette set a Top 5 debut with the first single “Guardian” of her upcoming new album. I’m a fan of her since the “MTV unplugged” and this song was it worth waiting four years since her last album. These are the factors which can decide between a #1 or missing this spot next week. Between the challengers is Stef Lang with “Paper Doll”. Also doing well is Joe Bonamassa who’s climbing up with “Driving towards the daylight” from 7-6. Beside Alanis Morissette Kate Voegele is placing another song in the Top 10. “Burning the harbor” moved up 4 spots to #9. As a consequence of these Top 10 debuts Ryan Star’s “Stay awhile” dropped one to 11 and Canadian C½ur de Pirate continues her fall with “Golden baby” to #14.

While this week’s highest new entry nearly topped the chart the second best new entry can be found at #38. It’s Stooshe with “Black heart”. This song definitely reminds to the 60’s with a soulful pop song. And at the moment there is nothing similar out there. If I trust my feelings these song has a good chance to stay high on my chart. The greatest gainer of the week is “Zero gravity”. In her fourth week on my chart Kerli is climbing up 16 spots to #68. One of XFER’s favourite singer at the moment entered with two more songs. His former #1 “Pull me under” debuts at #44. “Starlight” set new standards for Matt Cardle on my chart so it will be hard for “Pull me under” and “Faithless” which debuts at #60 to reach this but nothing is impossible. All in all there are 11 new entries. The others are Reece Mastin with “Shut up and kiss me” (#46), Darren Hayes with “Stupid mistake” (#76), The Gaslight Anthem with “45” (#79), Sistar with “Alone” (#91), Ian Carey & Rosette feat. Timbaland & Brasco with “Amnesia” (#93), Ming Bridges with “Miss Thinkalot” (#96) and Mark Forster with “Auf dem Weg” (“On the way”, #100).

Week 70 – June 30 ^th, 2012

The summer already starts this weekend in Austria. The temperature is going higher and higher. But on my chart there is a little bit of continuance at the top. Let’s start with the unexpected. Carrie Underwood’s fought hard and her song “Good girl” holds the top spot for a second week while Kate Voegele climbed up one to #2 with “Say you’re mine”. Alanis Morissette’s song “Guardian” which had been in the pole for the this week’s #1 only climbed to #4 and so she had to wait for one more week. The best artist this week is still Kate Voegele. “Burning the harbor”, her second actual hit song, climbed to #7 and could reach the Top 5 next week. New under the Top 10 are Keane with “Silenced by the night”. Giving a comeback is Ryan Star. His song “Stay awhile” returned to #10 after one week. These songs are replacing Emma’s “Non e’ l’inferno” (#11) and Kelly Clarkson’s “Dark side” (#13).

Within the Top 20 “Primadonna” by Marina and The Diamonds continues the run of success by climbing 17-12. Three more songs are reaching new peaks. Two of these three songs have the summer in title. First to mention is “Summer paradise” by Simple Plan feat. Sean Paul at #16. For both artists it is their best chart performance so far. The other song is “Summertime sadness” by Lana Del Rey. All of her previous singles reached the Top 10. And this song has everything to do it again. But these songs aren’t the only songs with the special summer feeling this year. While “Summer of love” by Cascada drops four spots to #74 two more songs gave their debut. The highest debuting summer song is “Always summer” at #57. Yeah, summer is my preferred part of the year, but the temperature shouldn’t go as high as it did yesterday. But let’s go back to the topic. “Always summer” by Yellowcard is the first song they placed on my chart. The dance song “Remembering the summer nights” is by Canadian-Greek artist Nikki Ponto is the other debuting summer song. This song is also her debut song on my chart at #98. When writing about these summer songs I should not forget this week’s highest new entry. Jesca Hoop, an artist I’ve not heard before, gives a top 40 debut. The free downloadable single “Born to” from her latest album “The house that Jack built” debuts at #35. Other debuts come from Bakkushan with “Nur die Nacht” (Only the night, #48), Fun. with “Some nights” (#49), Delta Goodrem with “Sitting on top of the world” (#85), Gold Fields with “Treehouse” (#86), Gentlemen Hall with “All our love” (#92), Tom Hugo with “Wildest man alive” (#94), Tal with “Je prends le large” (#96) and Florence and The Machine with “Breathe of life” (#99).

Week 71 – July 7 ^th, 2012

Bryan’s heart will jump a little bit more this week. Carrie Underwood made the way free for his favourite star Kate Voegele. Finally “Say you’re mine” got the #1. It’s her second #1 on my chart after “Sandcastle” reached it last year. And it’s not the only good news for Kate Voegele. Her other charting hit “Burning the harbor” climbed up from 7 to 5. In the middle of these songs Alanis Morissette is still waiting to take the last step. “Guardian” climbed up one spot to #3 and is now on the podium, but how long did it take her to take over? Maybe the radio premiere of “Guardian” in Europe (#48 at the Austrian Airplay Charts) helps to continue this run. Joe Bonamassa is the victim of Kate Voegele’s run. His “Driving towards the daylight” fall to #7. The rest of my Top 10 hold the spots and so no new song entered this part of my chart.

Within the Top 20 you can find Kelly Clarkson latest hit song “You love me” new at #17. She and Lana Del Rey with “Summertime sadness” have now the best opportunities to reach the Top 10, but you should have a look at Dragonette with “Let it go” at #21 and Stooshe with “Black heart” at #26 or Suzie McNeil with “Tough love” at #25. A little bit of outsiders are Maroon 5 & Wiz Khalifa. Their “Payphone” has a good momentum, but it’s hard to say if they will reach this part of the chart. This week’s highest new entry comes from the Austrian newcomer band Lucky Strikes Back. Their second single “Wir sind wie wir sind” (We are as we are) is a homage to the youth and gives them a solid debut at #54. The theme of this song is similar to “We are young” of Fun.. I doubt they will have much success in Austria, but I wish them the best. Last week I wrote a lot about the summer and the summer songs in my chart. This week one of these songs is the greatest gainer of the week. Yellowcard sprinted 18 spots to #29 with “Always summer” and passed by last week’s highest new entry “Born to” by Jessca Hoop who only climbed up two to #33.

Among the thirteen new entries you can find the latest Sixpence None The Richer song “Radio” at #97. “Radio” isn’t another “Kiss me”, but a solid comeback song. The other new entries come from Ronika with “Automatic” (#70), The Makemakes with “The Lovercall (#71), TobyMac with “Me without you” (#85), Baek Ji Young feat. Yong Jun Hyung with “Good boy” (#86), Cori Yarckin with “Floating” (#89), The Ready Set with “Give me your hand (best song ever)” (#91), Lovebugs feat.
