Week 51 – February 18^th, 2012

Last week was an exception with three very high new entries. This week there isn’t such a competition in the Top 10 than last week, but there is a new #1. “Domino” failed to stay at #1 for a third week and so Jessie J. had to leave for Lana Del Rey. Her B-side “Blue Jeans” finally did the last step and matches her success with “Video Games” which left the Top 10 this week. While Anouk and Silbermond hold their spots from last week The Orion Experience finally climbed up to #5 with “NCY girl”. Kelly Clarkson is rebounding by climbing up two spots to #6 with “What doesn’t kill you (stronger)”. In her wake are the other new artists from last week. “Do you like what you see” and “Losing you” by the Voice of Germany candidates Ivy Quainoo and Mic Donet are rising two spots to new peaks. With Christina Perri you can find only one new song in the Top 10. Her biggest hit until now “Jar of hearts” reached #10 in its eight week on chart. Her other single here in Europe “A thousand years” didn’t have such success for me and dropped 28 spots to #74 which could be her last week. Directly behind the Top 10 is one more artist from the USA. Demi Lovato’s “Skyscraper” peaked at #12 last year and had been her biggest hit for me until this week. Her resent single “Give your heart a break” is growing fast by every listen. This week this song didn’t reach the Top 10 by one spot but this time she should reach the Top 10. The highest new entry comes from Kelly Clarkson. Her predicted third single “I forgive you” debuted at #25 and is now one of six songs in this countdown and one of her two debuts. “The sun will rise”, the other Kelly Clarkson song, debuted little bit lower but still in the Top 50 at #43. The Austrian Rock band Centao are the greatest gainer of the week with their single “Addicted to you” by climbing up to #30. At #31 the second official single from Lana Del Rey “Born to die” gives its debut. All of her charting songs made it to #1 and so the direction for this song is fixed and the future will show if she could do it for the third time. And there are two more expected new entries this week. One comes by the Queen of Pop. Madonna and her entourage, this time M.I.A. & Nicky Minaj (I never thought I would chart these two artists), gave their debut with “Give me all your luvin’” at #53. The other mentioned new entry is more expected by me than everyone else out there. Kate Voegele entered my chart with the title track of her last album “Gravity happens” at #56. Other new entries come from Catharina Boutari with “Türlich, türlich” (#83, a cover of the 2000 smash hit by Das Bo), The Asteroids Galaxy Tour with “Heart attack” (#89), Stefanie Heinzmann with “Diggin’ in the dirt” (#90), Nine Sons of Dan with “She’s so fine” (#92), Miike Snow with “Devil’s work” (#96), Sebastian Block with “Ich hoffe ja” (#97), All Time Low with “Time bomb” (#99) and R.E.M. with “We all go back where we belong” (#100).

Week 52 – February 25^th, 2012

After only one week at the top Lana Del Rey had to go back to the runner’s up position. Her “Blue Jeans” was removed by star artist Anouk. Her latest charting smash hit “Little did I know” finally peaked at #1. It’s her first number one since “Ms. Crazy” last year and in total her fourth #1. German band Silbermond climbed up one to #3 with “Himmel auf” (Heaven open) and so they reached the winner’s podium. For Jessie J. the days in the Top 3 are over. “Dominio” slipped down to #4. Mic Donet and Ivy Quainoo changed their positions but both songs of the first period of TVoG are stilling climbing up the chart. After thirteen weeks in the top 10 Kelly Clarkson had to leave. And it is the first time after 20 weeks that Kelly Clarkson had no song in the Top 10, but she has the chance to get in there as soon as possible. “I forgive you” reached the Top 20 in its second week. Also slipping out of the top 10 is Jennifer Rostock with “Ich kann nicht mehr”. After topping the chart in January they are on their way down. This week they dropped from 9 to 17. These two acts are replaced by two newcomers in the top 10. “Give your heart a break” by Demi Lovato took this final step with flying colours and peaks now at #9. Ricki-Lee’s dance song “Raining diamonds” is in general her first charting song. Rising two spots she is now at #10. The greatest gainer of the week isn’t far behind the top 10. Italian singer Emma Marrone is flying high with her second single “Tra passione e lacrime” (Between passion and tears). Climbing up 44 spots she is now at #13. The highest new entry comes from Katy Perry. Her latest release “Part of me” is starting its chart run at #36.

On Friday the show Österreich rockt den Song Contest (Austria rocks the Song Contest) was hold. Ten artists tried to qualify for Baku and represent Austria at the Song Contest. Five of this artist entered this week’s chart. My favourite “How can you ask me?” by Mary Broadcast Band from their third album “Love is our mission” debuted at #62. Also charting are Papermoon with their three language song “Vater, father, mon père” at #75. And directly behind are the dialect rock group Krautschädl from my neighbour town Wels. Their song “Einsturzgefohr” (Danger of collapse) has a very catchy refrain and could do well on my chart. James Cottriall's song contest qualification contribution “Stand up” replaced his last charting song “Smile” and entered at #76. And last but not least the winner Trackshittaz, a perfect show helped to win this contest, of this election also chart. It’s their first charting song, although they had 11 (!) charting songs in Austria since their number one debut at the end of 2010 with “Oida taunz” (Gosh dance!). Their song “Woki mit deim Popo!” (Wiggle ya ass or Shake ya booty or something similar) is a German dialect version in the style of the two LMFAO blockbuster hits “Party Rock Anthem” and “Sorry for party Rocking” (both songs I haven’t charted last year, but I’ve to say that at the very last the refrain of “Party Rock Anthem isn’t so bad). The text of this song is rather primitive, but there are definitely funny parts if you understand the dialect. For a better understanding you maybe should watch their official video and their show during this contest. (Video: (|), Show Performance: (|)). And over the past years in Austria we had some songs with the similar context which were huge hits. For example “Disco Popo” by Die Atzen or back in 1999 A Klana Indiana (A Teenier Native American) with “A Klana Indiana” or “Uiii, is des bled” (Uiii, is that stupid). Both of these songs later peaked at #1. And so it is only a question of time when “Woki mit deim Popo!” also peaks at number #1 in Austria. In my chart it’s their first hit which debuted at #87.

Other new entries are from Amanda Mair with “Doubt” (#54), Modà with “Tappeto di fragolo” (Carpet of Strawberries, #63), All About Maggie with “Spin your lies” (#86), Flo Rida feat. Sia with “Wild ones” (#91), Boyz II Men feat. Charlie Wilson with “More than you’ll ever know (#93), The Black Keys with “Lonely boy” (#95) and The Satellite Year with “Jelly, Jelly how to survive such a trip (#99).

Week 53 – March 3^rd, 2012

What is better to celebrate a birthday chart with a #1 by my favorite artist. Anouk took over this position in the last week and could hold this spot for a second week with “Little did I know”. New at the runner’s up position is German band Silbermond with their single “Himmel auf” while Lana Del Rey is dropping one spot to #3 with “Blue Jeans”. Out of the Top 5 is Jessie J. with “Domino” after seven weeks. This week she can be found at #7. And so the top two songs of the Voice of Germany are in my Top 5. Last week Mic Donet reached this part of my chart and this week he climbed up one spot to #4. Ivy Quainoo, who debuted at #2 in Germany the last week, is peaking now at #5 with “Do you like what you see”. As I haven’t been into the most hits out of German and Austrian casting shows over the last years it is a sensation that these two songs reach this part of my chart. There is one more song I hadn’t on my list for a Top 10 hit when these songs debuted on my chart. Emma Marrone or short Emma debuted in the same week when I had three Top 10 debuts at #72. While Silbermond, Ivy Quainoo and Mic Donet tried to reach #1 Emma tries to roll up my chart from the back. In only four weeks “Tra passione e lacrime” reached #6 and you can call this song now a contender for number one. I believe Emma and her hit is an attunement to the trip to Rome in May. Apart the Top 10 there are 14 new entries. German band Mia. is leading the crowd with their first single “Fallschirm” (Parachute) from their fifth album “Tacheles” (Straight talking). The last time they had a hit for me was back in 2006 with their song “Tanz der Moleküle” (Dance of the molecules). So it is a long time for them to get my attention, but a good video also helped (watch (|)). The next best new entry comes from an artist who reached the Top 10 this week for the first time. “Starlight” by Matt Cardle finally took the step by climbing up two spots to number 9. And at #44 his latest single “Amazing” starts its chart run. This isn’t his only song which is debuting this week. The album track “All for nothing” debuts at #79 and so Matt Cardle has now three songs on my chart while his first charting song “Run for your life” fall off the chart this week. The greatest gainer of the week is also coming from Italy like last week’s winner Emma Marrone. The third chart hit by the Italian pop/rock formation Modà climbed up 25 spots. Therefore “Tappeto di fragole” is now peaking at #38. As I wrote before there are 14 new entries. Three of them I have mentioned. The other new entries come from Lloyd feat. André 3000 with “Dedication to my ex” (#66), Rosenstolz with “Lied von den Vergessenen” (Song of the forgotten, #70), The JaneDear Girls with “Merry go round” (#73), Simonetta Spiri feat. Madback with “Dopo mi uccidi” (After you kill me, #83), Pixie Lott with “Kiss the stars” (#89), Michelle Branch with “Happen to call” (#90), Cher Lloyd feat. Week 54 – March 10^th, 2012

Anouk is reaching new spheres in 2012. With “Little did I know” she is now for the third week at #1. So far this is the longest run at number one this year. At the runner’s up position nothing changed too. Silbermond and their new single “Himmel auf” stayed at number 2. Mic Donet used his appearance in The Voice of Germany to grab his first Top 3 hit with “Losing you”. This single is placed higher than the winning single “Do you like what you see” by Ivy Quainoo who is dropping down one spot to #6. Former #1 “Blue Jeans” by Lana Del Rey is on its way down. Now at #5. Italian superstar Emma is continuing climbing up the list. In her second week in the Top 10 she sprinted from 6-4 with “La passion e lacrime”. Also doing well is 2010’s British X-Factor candidate Matt Cardle. “Starlight” climbed up two spots from 9 to 7. Dropping out of the Top 10 are Jessie J. with “Domino” (#12) and Ricki-Lee with “Raining diamonds” (#11). Their spots were replaced by two artists who already had one Top 10 hit. Let’s start with Canadian rock band Nickelback. “Lullaby” the following single to their smash hit “When we stand together” reached in its eighth week #9 with a climb of four spots. The other artist reaching this week’s Top 10 also comes from Canada. C½ur de Pirate reached last year at Top 7 placement with her first single “Adieu” from her second album “Blonde”. This time the non-official confirmed single “Danse et danse”, in Austria, Germany or Switzerland this song is listed as a single on iTunes, climbed up from 14 to 10. Her official single “Golden baby” will debut next week. Kelly Clarkson’s unfortunately no single “I forgive you” climbed four spots to #13 and Lana Del Rey rose six spots to #14 with “Born to die”. Both songs are on the list to reach next week’s Top 10. The highest new entry was released as a single in the middle of 2011 and comes from Justin Nozuka feat. RZA, Kobra Khan & James Blake. Their tribute to former Wu-Tang Clan member Ol’ Dirty Bastard “Gone” debuts at number 50. The second highest new entry comes from Canadian Alexz Johnson and is a non-official single. Her song “Taker” from the “Reloaded” album debuts at #63. The greatest gainer of the week is a country song. The JaneDear Girls running up the chart with “Merry go round” the follow up to their first chart hit “Shotgun girl”. “Merry go round” climbed up 28 spots to #45. In total there are 11 new entries. Week 55 – March 17^th, 2012

Silbermond is taking over the top spot six weeks after the debut at #4. “Himmel auf” is a quite good song, but I think this song isn’t their best work and so I’m not sure that “Himmel auf” could do it for two weeks. Anouk is dropping down to two with her fourth #1 “Little did I know”. The winner’s podium is completed by Mic Donet with “Losing you” for the second week in a row. All in all the Top 10 hasn’t seen a lot of competition this week. Ivy Quainoo is back in the Top 5 with “Do you like what you see” while Lana Del Rey is slipping down to #7 with “Blue Jeans”. And at the bottom of the Top 10 the Canadian songs changed their spots. So C½ur de Pirate is now at #9 with “Danse et danse” while “Lullaby” is at #10. The hot shot debut comes from a relatively unknown Irish band The Brilliant Things. Their song “Dance” remains me to the song “Radio” of another Irish Band The Corrs. “Radio” was one of my favorite songs in 2001 and “Dance” could do well 11 years later. This week The Brilliant Things, who had a lot of airplay in UK in January with this song, debuts with “Dance” at #18. This isn’t the only higher new entry this week. At #25 Emeli Sandé gives her debut with “Next to me”. While her previous songs failed to chart this song convinced me and it seems that “Next to me” has a good future on my chart. At the moment Kelly Clarkson is the biggest star on my chart. Seven songs of her album “Stronger” are charting. Three of these seven songs had reached the Top 10 including the #1’s “What doesn’t kill you (stronger)” and “Mr. Know it all”. And three more songs of her are trying to reach this part in the coming weeks. So is her latest debut “Dark side”. Her official third single debuts at #33. This week’s greatest gainer are the Australian Band Sons of Midnight. Their song “Never again”, which had been a free release to promote their album, raised 20 spots to #55. And I’m very proud that 10 songs from Austrian artists (James Cottriall is living in Vienna since years so I am counting him as Austrian artist) are on my chart at the moment. So far this is the highest influence of Austrian artists within a year of charting and there is the chance to see more Austrian songs on the list the next week. Unfortunately no Austrian produced song reached the Top 10 since “Kryptonite” by Trouble over Tokyo” peaked at #2 last year in June. However the rock song “Addicted to you” by Centao has the opportunity to be Austrians next Top 10 hit. Beside the three mentioned high new entries there are eight more new entries. These are C½ur de Pirate with “Golden baby” (#68), Fun. feat. Janelle Monáe with “We are young” (#69), Beyoncé with “Dance for you” (#79), Good Old War with “Calling me names” (#93), Royal Tailor with “Hold me together” (#94), Birdy with “Skinny love” (#95), Cornelia Mooswalder with “Sticks and stones” (#96) and Wonder Girls feat. School Gyrls with “The DJ is mine” (#97).

Week 56 – March 24^th, 2012

This week’s review is starting with a little sensation. No it isn’t that Silbermond with “Himmel auf” isn’t #1 for a second week. It’s Lana Del Rey. And here is another no. “Born to die” didn’t jump to #1. It didn’t even reach the Top 10. About a month ago “Blue Jeans” reached for only one week #1 before it was replaced by Anouk’s “Little did I know”. This week Lana Del Rey stopped the way down after dropping to #7 last week and returned with an unbelievable comeback to #1. And there is a third no. I haven’t bought the album until now because I’m not sure if I should. Nothing comparable happened before on my chart. So Lana Del Rey prevented Mic Donet for taking over my chart with “Losing you” which is now at the runner’s up position while Silbermond is dropping down to #3 which depends a little bit to the fact that their album – released on Friday – is disappointing. Apart from Lana Del Rey’s takeover nothing spectacular happened within the Top 10. TVoG winner Ivy Quainoo dropped four spots to #9 and Kelly Clarkson returned to the Top 10. “I forgive you” is the fourth song reaching a Top 10 spot from her album “Stronger”. “I forgive you” replaced “Lullaby” by Nickelback which dropped to #13.

Knocking at the door of the Top 10 is the newcomer band from Ireland. The Brilliant Things sprinting from 18 to 11 with “Dance” and overhauled Lana Del Rey’s “Born to do” which is still at #12. Is Jessie J. ready for one more Top 10 hit? That’s the question after “Who you are” entered directly at #28 which is this week’s highest new entry. Jessie J. is followed by Sanremo winner Emma Marone and her winning title “Non e’ l’inferno” at #29. Emma Marone is the rising star on my chart. While “Tra passione e lacrime” is at #4 two more songs from her are added to this week’s chart. At #79 her cover of the classic “Nel blu dipinto di blu” gives its debut. The title track of her album “Sarò libera” returns to the chart after a break of eight weeks to #74. Only six spots behind the peak. The greatest gainer of the week is Canadian artist C½ur de Pirate with her second official single “Golden baby” at #55. Beside the two high entries of Emma Marone and Jessie J. New Zealands new star Annah Mac placed her following single to “Cecila” on my chart. “Girl in stilettos”, which has an interesting video, debuts at #52. Another noticeable debut is given by German R&B artist Joy Denalane who is singing optional in German or English. This time she published a song in English. The non-album track “No more” gives her the first charting appearance at #60. Other debuts come from Murano meets Toka feat. Dumbstruke with “Nachtleben” (Night life, #45) Fountains of Wayne with “The summer place” (#87), First Aid Kit with “Emmylou” (#89), Of Monsters and Men with “Little talks” (#92) and !DelaDap with “Crazy swing” (#99).

Week 57 – March 31^st, 2012

Nothing is new at the top spots of my chart. Lana Del Rey could hold the #1 position after the fabulous comeback last week with “Blue Jeans”. So Mic Donet must be satisfied with the runner’s up position for one more week. The podium is completed with Italien star Emma Marrone. With “Tra passione e lacrime” she climbed 4-3 in its eighth week. Matt Cardle has now the option the join the Top 3 next week. He is climbing up two spots with “Starlight”. Out of the Top 10 are Demi Lovato with “Give your heart a break”and TVoG winner Ivy Quainoo. These artists were replaced by one well-known artist and one newcomer. Let’s start with the well-known artist. Lana Del Rey had two number ones with her first two songs on my chart. Now “Born to die” is trying to do the same, but in a slower way. It took her seven weeks to get into the Top 10. Irish band The Brilliant Things reached this part of the chart for the first time. “Dance” climbed 11-8 in its third week.

In general this week hasn’t seen a lot of big new entries. The highest new entry comes from the German band Deichkind (Dike child) with their latest hit song “Leider geil” (Unfortunately awesome). This song has been released as a single only this week. Weeks ago this song had been used as a promotion for a TV program and so this song climbed up the charts in Germany and Austria where it reached the Top 10. Now I cannot withdraw “Leider geil” which lead Deichkind to their first and biggest chart hit up-to-date. The next best new entry comes from US rock band Sixx: A.M. “Are you with me” is the long awaited third single of their 2011 album “This is gonna hurt”. They gave their debut at #61. The greatest gainer of the week comes from Good Old War with “Calling me names”. Last week they were placed at the last spot of my chart and they had a bad outlook for this week, but they turned around and now “Calling me names” can be found at #69. In total there are ten new entries. Beside the mentioned new songs these are the others: Theory of a Deadman with “Hurricane” (#75), Train with “Drive by” (#80), Cascada with “Summer of love” (#81), Jay Brennan with “Beautifully” (#94), Christian Kane with “Let me go” (#95), Lovebugs with “Truth is” (#96), Maverick Sabre with “No one” (#97) and K. Michelle with “How many time” (#100).

Week 58 – April 7^th, 2012

After two more weeks at the top Lana Del Rey had to leave this position with “Blue Jeans“. For the first time a song with Italian lyrics took over the #1. “Tra passione e lacrime” is Emma’s first #1. This means that beside English and German now the third major language on my chart had a #1 song. At the runner’s up position is Matt Cardle. His song “Starlight” is raising two spots to a new high at #2. Former #1 “Blue Jeans” dropped two spots to #3. Irish sensation The Brilliant Things are jumping into the Top 5 and landing at #4 with their first hit “Dance”. All in all the Top 10 sees two new songs. C½ur de Pirate and Lana Del Rey who stayed within the Top 10 for only one week with “Born to die” were replaced by Lloyd feat. André 3000 and Katy Perry. “Dedication to my ex (miss that)” is for Lloyd as well as for André 3000 the first Top 10 hit. Well Katy Perry’s last singles “ET”, “Last Friday night (TGIF)” or “The one that got away” failed to reach this part of the chart or didn’t even chart. So “Part of me” is her first major hit after “Firework” reached #12 last year .

The greatest gainer of the week are again Good Old War. The indie pop band from Philadelphia is climbing up the chart in a fast way I haven’t seen before. Climbing up 72 spots within two weeks is leading them to a new peak at #28. In generally this week sees with Fun. feat. Janelle Monáe, Of Monsters and Men, Sixx: A.M. as well as Cascada and Train some more big movers. Outside the Top 50 the highest new entry can be found. While in North America “4 AM” is Melanie Fionas’ actual hit in Europe her follow up single “Change the record” has been released. “Change the record” a song where Melanie Fiona is cooperating with B.o.B. is leading the pack of 14 new entries by starting the chart career at #56. This time a lot of long time charters are kicked off the chart. Last year’s summer hit “Up in the sky” by 77 Bombay Street is falling off the chart after 43 weeks, but Adele is reaching the one year mark with her songs “Turning tables” and “Set fire to the rain”. Both songs can be found at the end of this week’s chart edition. Beside Melanie Fiona feat. B.o.B. the following artists reached the chart with new songs: Dia Frampton feat. Week 59 – April 14^th, 2012

Emma is staying for a second week at the top spot with “Tra passione e lacrime”. Matt Cardle failed to do the last step. So “Starlight” is for the second time the leader of the pack. The podium is completed by The Brilliant Things. Their debut “Dance” is a hot candidate for next week’s #1. Kelly Clarkson is attacking from behind. Climbing up two spots “I forgive you” reached #4 and her official single “Dark side” is knocking at the Top 10 by raising one spot to #12. “Blue Jeans” by Lana Del Rey at #5 and “Little did I know” by Anouk at #6 are staying within the top songs for more than 11 weeks, but for setting a record it is a long way to go. After peaking at #1 one month ago German band Silbermond is dropping out of the top 10 this week. “Himmel auf” slipped to #11. Silbermond is replaced by another German act. Mia., the band around lead singer Mieze Katz (a synonym which is standing for Pussycat), scores their first Top 10 hit with “Fallschirm” at #9.

After climbing up the chart in such a never seen way the motor of “Calling me names” by Good Old War is stagnating. “Calling me names” only moved up four spots to #24. This week’s greatest gainer is coming from Canada. With her debut single Elise LeGrow scores her first Top 50 hit by landing at #46 in her second week. The best newcomer is Shary-An Nivillac. Last year she appeared on TVoH where she was eliminated in the week before the final. Since this appearance she had released several singles in the Netherlands, but “Read my book” from her debut album “Love me for who I am” is her first appearance on my chart. This song debuts at #37. One more candidate of the Voice is scoring a Top 50 debut this week. Ivy Quainoo, winner of this year’s TVoG, second single hasn’t managed one more Top 10 debut. “You got me” starts with a solid debut at #47 while the winning single “Do you like what you see” continues the dropping down and can be found at #27. This week’s sees a record of 15 new entries. Three more songs just failed to enter the Top 50. These songs are “Been here before” by Anouk at #52 and “Riviera life” (#53) and “Dr. Wanna Do” (#54) by Caro Emerald. While Anouk’s song is only an album cut of her last album, “Rivieria life” had been a single in the Netherlands last year and “Dr. Wanna Do” is going to be Caro Emerald’s next single from her debut album. The other new entries are “Should’ve known better” by Soluna Samay (#64), “Look back” by Tone Damli (#65), “My crown” by The Storm (#66), “You better leave” by Freak Asylum (#84), “Tage wie diese” (Days like this) by Die Toten Hosen (The Dead Pants, #85), “La la love” by Ivi Adamou (#86), “LoveBlood” by King Charles (#86), “You don’t belong here” by Ivi Adamou (#87), “Lonely shore” by Vienna (#96) and “Back to the basics” by Run Kid Run (#98).

Week 60 – April 21^st, 2012

It took a while, but now former UK X-Factor winner Matt Cardle got his first #1. 12 weeks ago “Starlight” debuted at #19 and it started the longest run to #1 since Adele entered this position last July with “Set fire to the rain” for only one week. Is this a bad omen for Matt Cardle? Next week’s edition will show, but for now he can celebrate this #1. Having a new #1 means that “Tra passione e lacrime” is dropping down one spot. “Dance” by The Brilliant Things is stopping at #3 for the second week in a row and completes the podium. On the other side the Irish band is the toughest competitor for Matt Cardle. In general the Top 10 sees some action this week. Lloyd feat. André 3000 are moving 8-6 with “Dedication to my ex (miss that)” and Mic Donet is on his way out, but for this week “Losing you” is at #10. Kelly Clarkson is placing a new song in the Top 10. “Dark side” is her fifth Top 10 hit. With this song she is matching Anouk’s record who also placed five songs in the Top 10. “Dark side” climbed 12-9 and replaced Katy Perry’s “Part of me”.

Within the spots from 11 to 30 there is a lot of competition for a chance to get into the Top 10. At the moment Emma with “Non e’ l’inferno” at #12 and Emeli Sandé with “Next to me” at #13 have a good option to take this last step. New concurrence is coming from Canada. Stef Lang’s free downloadable single “Paper doll” debuts at #15. It’s her first charting song and the outlook is very good for this song. The greatest gainer of the week is coming from Denmark. Soluna Somay is climbing up 31 spots with “Should’ve known better” to #33. So far Soluna Somay is the highest placed Eurovision Song Contest contestant. While the last Austrian candidate for the Eurovision Song Contest left my chart this week candidates from Norway, Sweden, Romania and Russia placed several songs on my chart. The highest new Eurovision entry comes from Romania. Viky Red only placed 10th during the Romanian election but his song “If you ever feel” debuts at #39. Also doing well is Norwegian Tone Damli with “Look back” which climbed up 27 spots to 38. It’s the first song I noticed from her and this song and her voice reminds me to Lene Marlin who had been a favorite of mine in the 2000’s. All in all there are 12 new entries. Beside the two new entries I mentioned are Livingston with “Supernova” (#70), Kristina Maria with “Our song comes on” (#75), Tommy Fredvang with “Make it better (#81), Kraftclub [Power Club] with “Songs für Liam” [Songs for Liam] (#85), Nina Zilli with “L’amore è femmina” [Love is female] (#86), Minnie-Oh with “You and I” (#87), Rikke Lie with “Another heartache” (#92), Marie Serneholt “Salt & pepper” (#95), Lena Maksimova with “Brave” (#96) and Hanna Lindblad with “Goosebumps” (#98).

Week 61 – April 28^th, 2012

Last week Matt Cardle finished his run to #1. A year ago Adele’s “Set fire to the rain”, a song which stayed within my chart for a year, only managed to hold this position for a single week. But Matt Cardle did it better with “Starlight”. He is under pressure, but “Starlight” is holding the #1 for a second week. New at the runner’s up position are The Brilliant Things with their first big hit “Dance”. Two acts stir up this week’s Top 10. First to mention is last week’s highest new entry. “Paper doll” by Stef Lang is shooting up the chart to #5. It’s her first Top 10 hit and it could go to the podium easily. At #6 the highest new entry can be found. Austrian dialect rock band Krautschädl, who had a minor hit with “Einsturzgefohr” this year, are debuting with their actual single from “GemmaGemma” (Let’s go, let’s go) directly within the top songs. “Khoids Wossa” (Cold water) has been released during 2011 as lead single, but due to missing promotion this song gives its debut a year later. “Khoids Wossa” is the first Austrian Top 10 hit since From Dawn to Fall left at the end of May 2011 with “Rising”. These two songs prevented Emma and Emeli Sandé to enter the Top 10, but these artists are still climbing up the chart.

Outside the Top 10 there are several acts which are climbing up the chart. New within the best 20 songs is Soluna Samay. With “Should’ve known better” she is representing Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest and now at #20. Also doing well are Tone Damli with “Look back” at #27 and Caro Emerald with “Riviera life” at #33. The greatest gainer of the week is “Our song comes on” by Canadian artist Kristina Maria. Last week this song debuted at #75 and now it jumped to #48. While the highest new entry can be found within the Top 10 only one other song managed a Top 50 entry. It’s Mandy Capristo, a former member of Monrose, with “The way I like it”. Her debut solo single had a solid start in Germany, Switzerland and Austria especially because this song is used in the new film “Türkisch für Anfänger” (Turkish for beginners) which is based on the TV series of the same name. On my chart “The way I like it” debuts at #41. Having several hits in the past Linkin Park’s new single “Burn it down” debuts at #67, but this is getting more and more airplay. Other new entries are coming from Amanda Mair with “Sense” (#78), Eve 6 with “Lost and found” (#81), Sons of Midnight with “The fire” (#82), Susan Justice with “Eat dirt” (#86), Gabrille Aplin with “Home” (#90), Benjamin Braxton feat. Carmella with “Save me” (#94), Martina Aitolehti with “Checkmate” (#95), Tara Priya with “Rollin’ (#98) and Last Like Deep with “Insuperable” (#99).

Week 62 – May 5^th, 2012

After two weeks at the top it had been time for Matt Cardle to make the way free for The Brilliant Things. Their chart debut song “Dance” reached the summit in its eight week. But the chance is high that this song only will be there for one week. “Paper Doll” by Stef Lang is continuing the way to #1 with a 5-3 climb. And not far enough is the highest Austrian song. “Khoids wossa” by Krautschädl is now at #4 after last week’s Top 6 debut. Two songs reached for the first time my Top 10. At #9 it’s Emma’s follow up single “Non e’ l’inferno” to former #1 “Tra passione e lacrime” which is still at #6. The premiere in the Top 10 is given by Emeli Sandé. “Next to me” climbed 12-10.

Over the last few weeks I had several high new entries. This week it is similar. The highest new entry can be found at #21. It is US superstar Carrie Underwood with her latest country pop smash hit “Good girl”. Another strong debut comes from Ryan Star. His latest single “Stay awhile” entered at #25. Beside these high debuts there is a big sensation in this week’s edition. The cooperation between Olly Murs and Rizzle Kicks is re-entering the chart after a break of 19 weeks. This song is still a huge hit here in Austria and Germany and the radio stations as well as the music TV stations are playing “Heart skips a beat” still on heavy rotation. So this song is growing more and more to me than in its first chart run. Therefore “Heart skips a beat” is re-entering at its peak at #38. Last week Maverick Sabre had a bad outlook for this week with “No one”. But this week he celebrates a marvellous comeback by climbing up from 97 to 70. After several weeks with more than 13 new entries this week only sees nine new entries and one re-entry. Beside the mentioned new entries The Beth Edges with “Black Clouds” (#74), Shannon Noll with “Living in stereo” (#81), James Morrison with “One life” (#82), Last Like Deep with “Kollisionskurs” (Collision course, #83), Elliot Yamin with “3 words (#95), Cat Eye with “Ride” (#96) and JoJo with “Sexy to me” (#98) are giving their debut.
