Week 42 – December 17^th, 2011

One song is shining a little bit brighter than the other songs this week. No it’s not the #1 song, but the #1 is still shining bright. It’s the song which sprinted 62 spots to 30. Matt Cardle with his “Run for your life” reached this unbelievable run. The last three weeks Matt Cardle only stayed within the Top 100 with a prediction to leave the chart very early. This week I listened to his whole album and so his incredible run on my chart started. But enough of the greatest gainer of the week. Let’s talk about the new / old #1. Lana Del Rey holds the top position with her first hit “Video games” where she could stay longer if … . However there are a lot of candidates for the #1 spot. Lana Del Rey is followed by Kelly Clarkson with her recent single “What doesn’t kill you (stronger)”. “Sandcastles” by Kate Voegele dropped one more spot to #3, but she could have two Top 10 songs next week, because “Hundred million dollar soul” reached the Top 20 this week and the chances of climbing higher are very good. In its second week in the Top 10 Daughtry climbed 9-6 with “Crawling back to you”. For the first time a K-Pop song reached my Top 10. Kim Bo Kyung reached #10 with not a typical K-Pop song. “Hurt” is more pop/rock oriented and this isn’t surprising as her Idol is Kelly Clarkson. Within the Top 20 there had been some movement. While I mentioned the rise up of “Hundred million dollar soul” by Kate Voegele two more songs reached in the lee side this part of the chart. It concerns about “Alone” an album track of Kelly Clarkson’s new album “Stronger” and last week’s top new entry. “Domino” by Jessie J. rose up to #17 with a Top 5 prediction in the coming weeks. After a big new entry last week this week’s chart is characterized by two facts. The first fact is that this week’s new entries only can be found at the lower half of the chart. And the second fact is that a lot of new artists reached the chart after their success in the German X-Factor or the Austrian Popstar castings. Raffaela Wais, a runner up at German X-Factor, reached #79 with her debut single “Heaven only knows” which is the highest new entry. The winner of X-Factor David Pfeffer only reached #88 with his ballad “I’m here”. The song of the winner band of the Austrian Popstar “So hell wie die Sonne” by Kilmokit only reached #100 while the runner up band BFF reached #94 with their debut single “Outta my head”. So the German casting format won over the Austrian format. Not only in my chart, but also on the official charts of Germany and Austria, where Kilmokit and BFF failed to enter this week. In addition to these four new entries you can find nine more new entries and some ex-participants of TV castings. These are “Frankfurt Oder” by Bosse feat. Anna Loos (#84), “In diesem Moment” by Roger Cicero (#85), “Blame it on September” by Allstar Weekend (#86), “Take a chance on me” by JLS (#91), “Circus girl” by Sherrié Austin (#92), “Dächer einer ganzen Stadt” by Thomas Godoj (#95), “Lluvia al corazón” by Maná (#97), “Us & ourselves” by Morning Parade (#98) and “Mia Zagrofia (O Kosmos Mas) by Midenistis feat. Week 43 – December 24^th, 2011

It is the first Christmas chart after the re-start. Topping the chart for one more week is Lana Del Rey with her breakthrough “Video games”. At #2 for the second week in a row is Kelly Clarkson with “Whatever ever doesn’t kill me (stronger)”. She is fighting for her 2nd #1 on my chart following the chart topper “Mr. Know it all” this year. Directly behind are Jennifer Rostock. Their recent single “Ich kann nicht mehr” climbed 4-3. This song is still a contender for the next weeks. On the way down is Kate Voegele with Sandcastles. Now at #4. New in the top 5 is Daughtry with “Crawling back to you”. They only have an outside chance to top the chart. Remarkable within the Top 10 is that Kelly Clarkson’s third song “Alone” reached #10. So she has three songs in it. And Anouk with “What have you done” is on the way to equalize the record for staying in the Top 10 set by Adele with “Turning tables”. Unfortunately Kim Bo Kyung had to leave the top section after only one week with “Hurt”. Two songs fought for this week’s highest new entry. In a tough battle Jack’s Mannequin got out as a winner. “Release me” the following single to their #1 “My racing thoughts” entered at #32. The contender in this battle had been The Orion Experience. This group has now their first chart entry with “NYC girl”. This catchy song entered at # 33. Alongside these high new entries most of this year’s #1 songs are still in the Top 50. Nearly 40 weeks on the chart is Adele with two former #1’s. “Turning tables” is now at #42 and “Set fire to the rain” climbed 56-51. This week’s greatest gainer “Rome” by the Austrian band From Dawn to Fall missed the Top 50 after a very strong week. Climbing up 24 spots they are now at #53. All in all there are ten new entries this week. Two of them I’ve mentioned before. One more is a duet from the German singers Tom Lüneberger and Stefanie Kloß. Stefanie Kloß is the lead singer of the German band Silbermond. This is song is one of her rarely excursions to English. “We are one” landed at #76 and should bridge the time until the new album and single are released in 2012. Other new entries come from NotForgotten with “You’ve got someone to hold you” (#72), Ben Saunders with “All over” (#82), Duran Duran with “Girl panic!” (#83), Wonder Girls with “Be my baby” (#84, with the English version of this single), Avery with “Go screw yourself” (#96), Lauren Alaina with “Georgia peaches” (#99) and The JaneDear Girls with “Shotgun girls” (#100).

Week 44 – December 31^st, 2011

The unexpected happened. All five songs in the Top 5 didn’t move. So Lana Del Rey could hold her #1 position for the fourth week in a row with strong competitors behind her. Kelly Clarkson as well as Jennifer Rostock could reach the #1 spot next week. Kelly Clarkson has three songs in my Top 10 while Kate Voegele has now two songs in there. New in the Top 10 is “Hundred million dollar soul”. It is peaking at #9. “House” is the first Top 10 hit by Swedish newcomer Amanda Mair. With a strong effort she moved 13-10. These new songs at the top part of my chart lead to a non-equalizing record by Anouks “What have you done”. After 18 weeks in the Top 10 this song sank to #12 in its 22nd week. C½ur de Pirate dropped 8-14 with “Adieu”. The highest new entry comes from US rocker Lenny Kravitz. “Push” entered at #39 and could be a future top hit on my chart. Two more songs entered directly in my Top 50. Both songs come from the same artist. It’s Christina Perri. One of these songs is a little bit older and reached #73 on globalchart year-end of 2011 and #90 of 2010. “Jar of hearts” reached Europe and is now a big hit in Germany and Switzerland. In Austria the same is expected so that “Jar of heart” entered my chart at #50. “A thousand years” is doing a bit better on my chart debuting at #49. The greatest gainer of the week is Lauren Alaina with her country song “Georgia peaches”. Now at #76. The loser of the week goes to Caro Emerald. “Back it up” slipped down 26 spots to #96. In a total there are 10 new entries. Week 45 – January 7^th, 2012

The New Year starts with a new #1 by a well-known artist. Kelly Clarkson entered with her second single “What doesn’t kill you (stronger)” the top spot which is now her second #1 song. This ended the #1 run for “Video games” after four weeks. One more week to lie in wait is Jennifer Rostock with “Ich kann nicht mehr”. This song has the opportunity to climb up the last spots if Lana Del Rey isn’t fighting back for the #1 next week. Former #1 “Mr. Know it all” had to leave the Top 10 this week. This isn’t bad at all for Kelly Clarkson, because “Alone” (#4) is still climbing up my chart. After Kelly’s drop out of the Top 10 there was one spot free. Jessie J. made best of this situation and scored her first Top 10 hit with “Dominio” by climbing up six spots to #7. A reasonable chance to get in there next week have Inna Mojda with “La fille du Lido” (#14) and Carly Rae Jepsen with “Call me maybe” (#13). Some others are also doing well and could enter the Top 10 in the next weeks. One of these artist to mention is Jack’s Mannequin with “Release me” the following single to their #1 hit “My racing thoughts”. The greatest gainer of the week is David Pfeffer who won The German X-Factor in 2011. His debut single “I’m here” climbed up 22 spots to #48 in its fourth week. On the other side Marlee Scott drops down 33 spots to #95 with her first chart hit “Beautiful maybe”. The highest new entry comes from Anouk. “Little did I know” is another album track from her last year’s album “To get her together” and debuted straight at #25. At #26 there can be found the next new entry. It is “Absolutely me” by Caro Emerald who has two new entries this week. Her second entry “The other woman” debuted at #55. Among the 13 new entries is Marit Larsen. Back in 2009 she had a huge hit with “If a song could get me you”. At the end of last year she released her new single “Coming home” which debuts now at #66. Jessie J. gets started in my chart. First her single “Domino” entered the Top 10 and then at #72 her duet single “Up” with James Morrison debuts. The other new entries come from Ricki-Lee with “Raining diamonds” (#75), The Saturdays with “My heart takes over” (#82), Olly Murs with “On my cloud” (B-side to “Heart skips a beat”, #89), Gin Wigmore with “Black sheep” (#90), The Coronas with “Addicted to progress” (#91), Dia Frampton with “The broken ones” (#93), Needtobreathe with “The reckoning” (#94) and Toby Hitchcock with “This is the moment” (#100).

Week 46 – January 14^th, 2012

The fight of three acts for the #1 spot is going in the next round. “What doesn’t kill you (stronger)” by Kelly Clarkson put up some resistance against former #1 artist Lana Del Rey who dropped one spot to #3 with “Video games”. Jennifer Rostock rose to #2 and is so in a very good position to take over #1 in the next week. New in the Top 5 is Jessie J. with her US and UK smash hit “Domino”. Out of the Top 10 are Daughtry (#11) and Amanda Mair (#13) who is releasing her self-titled debut album in two weeks, but for now only in Sweden. So say hello to Inna Modja. She reached the Top 10 for the first time with her catchy song “La fille du Lido” (#9). Her Top 10 debut is followed by one more female Top 10 debut. Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen reached this part in its 9th week with “Call me maybe”. Maybe she got a call to do better on my chart next week. After several debuts last week many of these songs reached new highs this week. First to mention is Lindi Ortega with her second charting song “Black fly” from her debut album. Sure she hasn’t given her debut last week, but rising up 52 spots is remarkable. The title of this song reminds me of the book “Black fly season” by Giles Blunt which I read years ago. But except the title of the book and the song they have nothing common. And I like the video to this song. I personally think it is one of the best videos I’ve seen during the last year. All in all this song made it to #28. Reaching a new high in its second week is Ricki-Lee. “Raining diamonds” climbed up 45 spots to #30. These two songs encircle this week’s highest new entry. It is the B-side of former #1 song “Video games” by Lana Del Rey. “Blue Jeans” which also charted in several countries gives its debut at #29 with a clear Top 10 prediction. And there is one more new entry by an act who had a #1 on my chart. Scars on 45 enter at #41 with “Heart on fire”. Under the rest of the 14 new entries you can find two songs which are a little bit older but well known. This week I caught myself by always watching the video “We found love” by Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris on TV. So this song finally made the debut at #84. The other song I hadn’t on the list to make a debut on my chart has been “Somebody that I used to know” by Gotye feat. Kimbra. Here helped the massive radio airplay during my holidays. I gave the song a chance and it debuted at #93. The other debuts are “Curtain call” by Bryan Rice feat. Julie Berthelsen (#52), “Let me go” by Young London (#58), “Marry the night” by Lady Gaga (#59), “The lion’s roar” by First Aid Kit (#71), Lisa Martine Weller with her performance in The Voice of Germany of “Julimond” (#91), “Wishing you knew” by Andrew Roachford (#92), “Love on top” by Beyoncé (#95), “Breaking” by Jess Moskaluke (#97), “Is anybody out there?” by microClocks (#99) and “Bedroom eyes” by Dum Dum Girls (#100).

Week 47 – January 21^st, 2012

My PC and I have a very special relationship. Once or twice a year there is a total crash. This week it was the time for this year’s early crash which always ends that my brother must help me to get my PC back to a normal base of work. This time it took my brother about two and a half day of work and ended with a late edition of my chart. Hopefully there is no more crash this year. But let’s go back to the music which is more interesting for you. 47 weeks have moved in the country until I could congratulate an artist with a non-English song reaching the #1. This week Jennifer Rostock peaked at #1 with their 2nd charting song “Ich kann nicht mehr” (I can’t do this anymore). The title of the song reminded me of the facial expression of my brother when I told him about my problems with my PC, but that is another story. Jennifer Rostock comes therefore into the history books. And everywhere where a winner is, there is a loser. After only two weeks at the top spot Kelly Clarkson had to leave with “What doesn’t kill you (stronger)”. By the way all of her charting songs dropped this week. A lot of songs at the bottom of the Top 10 rose up to new peaks. Especially Carly Rae Jepsen is climbing up the chart faster than in her first weeks. And there is one new song in the Top 10. The New York City based band The Orion Experience are flying high with their anthem to the “NYC girl” which reached #9. Some new artists are directly behind the Top 10. Lana Del Rey with “Blue Jeans” failed to reach the Top 10 by one spot. Not to forget Anouk who could reach this part of the chart for the fifth time with “Little did I know” a song from her latest album. The highest new entry comes from Nickelback. Their following single “Lullaby” to the Top 10 hit “When we stand together” debuted at #44. One of last week’s surprising entries “We found love” is doing well this week. Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris climbed up 28 spots to #56. But this isn’t the only song rising 28 spots in its 2nd week. The Dum Dum Girls and their song “Bedroom eyes” reached with the sound of the 60s #72 while BOY with “Little numbers” dropped to #92. Among this week’s debuts is Miranda Brooke with her first single “Hater”. This R&B song about the situation after the breakup of a relationship debuted at #76. Other debuts are Estelle with “Back to love” (#79), Boyce Avenue with “Find me” (#88), James Cottriall with “Smile” (#89), Jason Chen with “Burns” (#93), Adam Lambert with “Better than I know myself” (#94), Nabiha with “Trouble” (#95), The Suburbians with “Breathe” (#97) and Katie Sky with “Sweet sweet melody” (#100).

Week 48 – January 28^th, 2012

Topping the chart is a privilege. For the second time in a row Jennifer Rostock enjoys the look from the top of the chart to the rest. But it had been a very tough decision this week. In the very last moment “Ich kann nicht mehr” prevents a comeback #1 by Lana Del Rey’s “Video games” after a pause of three weeks. “Video games” isn’t her only Top 5 smash hit this week. Rising up six spots to #5 is the B-side “Blue Jeans” and the end isn’t reached this week. Everything except the #1 next week is a surprise, but maybe Jennifer Rostock or Jessie J. have something against it. Well, Jessie J. entered the Top 3 with “Domino” by climbing up one spot to #3. In the meantime Kelly Clarkson’s former chart topper “What doesn’t kill you (stronger)” is slipping down two notches to #4. “Blue Jeans” prevented Carly Rae Jepsen’s Top 5 entry with “Call me maybe” which is still at #6. Rising up two more spots is The Orion Experience with “NYC girl”. This song could easily reach my Top 5. At the moment they only peak at #7. On their way out of the Top 10 are “Alone” by Kelly Clarkson at#9 and “La fille du Lido” by Inna Modja at #10. In general the same songs as last week are knocking at the door for a Top 10 entry. Jack’s Mannequin failed to make the last step by one spot with “Release me”. New in the extended circle are two songs. Marit Larsen climbed 37-23 with her latest single “Coming home”. The other song is “We found love” by Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris. Calling this song a Top 10 contender is a big surprise. Some weeks ago I won’t have thought about charting it and now Rihanna is for the second week in a row the greatest gainer of the week by sprinting 25 spots to #31. Sure she doesn’t own this title of the greatest gainer of the week alone, but this doesn’t matter. This week she has to divide this title with a newcomer. “Hater” by Miranda Brooke debuted last week at #76. In her second week she missed the Top 50 by only one spot which she could reach next week. Between these two songs is the only track which entered directly in the Top 50. Penguin Prison, the project of New York City based singer Chris Glover, released their single “Fair warning” in the middle of 2011, but I haven’t heard it before. I started to like this song directly after listening to this electronic pop song and because there are no reasons against a debut this song is his first chart entry by entering at #48. Other new entries come from Jo Birchall with “Wonderful” (also a mid-year single of 2011, #73), Urbanize with “Rad der Zeit” (#80), Rascal Flatts feat. Natasha Bedingfield with “Easy” (#83), Fountains of Wayne with “Someone’s gonna break your heart” (#85), Dev feat. Enrique Iglesias with “Naked (#86), Eppic feat. Jess Moskaluke with “Storm before the calm” (#87), Twanée Butterfield with “Fire it up” (#89), Kamaliya with “Crazy in my heart” (#94), Girl’s Generation with “The boys” (#96), Company of Thieves with “Tallulah” (#97) and Anna Rossinelli with “Joker” (#99).

Week 49 – February 4^th, 2012

Last week I wrote that everything except a new number one by Lana Del Rey with the B-side “Blue Jeans” of the incredible “Video games” would be a sensation. One week later I’m a little bit wiser and I hope my world rocks at least until the sunlight to interpret a line from my new #1. And you are right in asking where you can find this line in “Blue Jeans”. You can’t find it there. So the unexpected happened. Jessie J. reached #1 with her smash hit “Domino”. After five weeks in the Top 10 she took the last two steps to climb up to #1. It’s nearly the same like last week. At #2 is Lana Del Rey. This time “Blue jeans” failed to reach #1 while last week’s #2 “Video games” dropped 2 spots to #4 and Jennifer Rockstock’s first #1 song “Ich kann nicht mehr” slipped down to #3. The Orion Experience are on the waiting position to the Top 5. Their song “NCY girl” rose up one spot to #6 and changed the spot with “Call my maybe” by Canadian sensation Carly Rae Jepsen. This week three songs get manage to reach the Top 10. For all these artists it isn’t their first Top 10 hit. Netherlands superstar Anouk reached Top 10 with “Little did I know” which is her first Top 10 hit since her last year’s #1 song “Ms. Crazy” because “Any younger” failed to reach this part of my chart. “Release me” by Jack’s Mannequin climbed up 2 spots and peaked for now at #9. And last but not least new in the Top 10 is one more act from the Netherlands. Caro Emerald placed one more song from her debut album “Deleted scenes from the cutting room floor” in the Top 10. “Absolutely me” climbed 16-10 in its 5th week. Apart of the Top 10 you can find one absolutely high entry. XFER wrote about two weeks ago that Matt Cardle has a new single out there and I should give this track a chance. Sooner or later his latest single “Amazing” would enter my chart, because I like his whole album. But for this week his single “Starlight” directly shot to #19. And next week this song could be his biggest hit in my chart by reaching #16 or higher, because his first chart entry “Run for your life – dropped down to #33 this week – peaked at #17. “Starlight” isn’t the only song in this week’s chart by debuting in the Top 50. Two more artists made this happen. One artist is C½ur de Pirate with her second single from “Blonde”. “Danse et danse” is once more a good and catchy song which follows the Top 10 hit “Adieu” and debuted at #38. The other artist had also a hit in my chart last year. Demi Lovato’s latest single “Give your heart a break” debuted only one spot behind C½ur de Pirate at #39. This week’s greatest gainer comes from an US Canadian collaboration by Eppic and Jess Moskaluke. Their song “Storm before the calm” climbed up 36 spots to #51. And there is one more “high” new entry to mention. Olly Murs’ following single to his Austrian Chart hit “Heart skips a beat” – which debuted this week directly at #3 in the German Charts – “Dance with me tonight” starts this week its chart run at #61. Other debuts are by We Are the In Crowd with “On your own” (#88), Bastille with “Icarus” (B-side of “Flaws”, 91), Snow Patrol with “This isn’t everything you are” (#95), Maná with “Amor Clandestino” (#96), Lykke Li with “Sadness is a blessing” (#97), The One AM Radio with “Sunlight” (#98), Helene Fischer with “Phänomen” (#99) and Sarah Blackwood with “Drowning” (#100).

Week 50 – February 11^th, 2012

What can I say about this week’s chart? It’s easy, because there are some additions which changes my chart in way not seen here before. I can’t even remember that this happened back in the 90’s when I first charted songs. But let’s start with the #1. Last week Jessie J. snatched the #1 from Lana Del Rey’s nose. And this week “Domino” did the same. So Jessie J. hold on for one more week at #1. In general there is no change in the Top 2. So “Blue Jeans” by Lana Del Rey has to wait for one more week to reach the top spot. There is new concurrence at #3 with Anouk’s latest hit song “Little did I know” climbing up five spots. You can find the first of three very high new entries at #4. One of my favorite German Bands Silbermond released its new single “Himmel auf” which is also the title track of their new album. “Himmel auf” shot straight to #4. In every other week before this Top 10 entry would stand alone for a sensation, but this week there are two more new entries in the Top 10. Between these new entries some songs dropped a little bit. Slipping down within the Top 10 are Jennifer Rostock (#5), Lana Del Rey with “Video games” (#7) and Kelly Clarkson with “What doesn’t kill you (stronger)” (#8). Furthermore Caro Emerald with “Absolutely me” dropped two to #11 and Jack’s Mannequin with “Release me” dropped three to #12. These two acts had to leave the Top 10 after only one week. And that’s only because The Voice of Germany had its final phase. First to say I haven’t seen the whole season for some reasons like not understandable choices by the coaches. But all in all it’s a good show. On Friday last week the eight candidates for the final presented their own new song. Four of these eight songs made it to my chart and two of them are now in the Top 10. This Friday the show ended with the win of 19 year old Ivy Quainoo. Her song “Do you like what you see” sounds like the title song of a new James Bond film. It isn’t only I like what I see I also like what I hear and therefore this song debuted at #9. At #10 is one more song from The Voice of Germany. “Losing you” by Mic Donet is his comeback single. Back in the early 2000’s he started his music career but he failed to impact. This time he didn’t make it to final. Once more this had been a not understandable decision by a coach, but due to his download sales he could enter the charts in Germany, Switzerland and Austria next week. “Losing you” is starting its chart run at #10 with a very good prediction for the future. The greatest gainer of the week is divided to three acts this week. Eppic feat. Jess Moskaluke with “Storm before the calm”, Nabiha with “Trouble” and Anna Rossinelli with “Joker” climbed up eight spots to new peaks. I have to mention one more “high” entry. On Friday the Austrian rock band Centao released its second single from the last years album “The Look – The Wait – The Kill”. “Addicted to you” is a very good choice for a single and debuted at #53. All in all there are 12 new entries.
