Week 438 – July 20^th , 2019

This week’s #1 is a little surprise. After four weeks at the top Jeanette Biedermann dropped one spot with her heart-breaking “Deine Geschichten” (#2). Shawn Mendes took over with “If I can’t have you” (#1). I’ve not thought about it just before compiling the chart for this week. “If I can’t have you” isn’t maybe a long time #1, but it definitely make to way free for another song which could hold the top spot for more than one week. Also down one spot is former #1 “I fell in love with the devil” (#3) by Avril Lavigne. By the way the official video to this song isn’t really good, but I still love this song. Next in line is “It’s a new day” (#4) by Anouk and new in this part is “Too much” (#5) by Carly Rae Jepsen.

For one more week “Vermissen” (#6, “Miss”) by Juju feat. Henning May missed the Top 5 by just one spot. Up one spot is “Never really over” (#7) by Katy Perry. This one is definitely a success for her and it is absolute possible that this song could be seen in the Top 5 in the future. Former #1 “Undrunk” (#8) by Fletcher dropped three spots and should leave the Top 10 by next week. The following two songs are new in this part of the chart. Both songs climbed up four spots. The first song to mention is “You need to calm down” (#9) by Taylor Swift. Finally she returns with a song from her new album in the Top 10. The other song is “I am here” (#10) by Pink which is the last album cut I’m charting from “Beautiful trauma”.

The greatest gainer is “Ne m’appelle pas” (#40, “Don’t call me”) by Cœur de Pirate. Since years Cœur de Pirate is a regular guest on the chart and so I hope to see her in the Top 10 with this song. For the highest debut you’ve to dig deep as last week. This week the top debut is “Blow” (#77) by Ed Sheeran & Chris Stapleton & Bruno Mars. The song itself sounds more than a song by Lenny Kravitz, but it still a good song. At the moment I’m not sure where the journey of this song will end. The other debuts are “Don’t you pretend” (#79) and “Go high” (#80) by Kelly Clarkson, “María, María” (#81) by German Schlager duo SEÑORITAS, “Talking loud” (#96) by Jennifer Zhang, “Text you first” (#97) by Karlee Steel, “Come to Brazil” (#98) by Why Don’t We and “Man ist nie zu alt für Träume” (#99; “You are never too old for dreams”) by Peggy March.

Week 439 – July 27^th , 2019

I can’t believe that I’m writing that “If I can’t have you” (#1) is scoring its 2nd week at the top of the chart. This is definitely a nice job by Canadian Shawn Mendes. Maybe this one isn’t is only #1 this year, but more a little bit later. Still at #2 is “Deine Geschichten” (“Your stories”) by Jeanette Biederman. Up seven spots and into the Top 3 is Pink with the album cut “I am here” (#3). Former #1 “I fell in love with the devil” (#4) by Avril Lavigne dropped one spot and is now out of the Top 3 for the first time since weeks. Holding its spot is “Too much” (#5) by Carly Rae Jepsen.

Knocking at the door to the Top 5 is Katy Perry. “Never really over” (#6) could be her 2nd Top 5 smash since I re-started charting. Katy Perry is followed by Taylor Swift. She climbed up two spots with “You need to calm down” (#7). Dropping down four spots is my favourite artist Anouk. “It’s a new day” (#8) is definitely on its way out of the Top 10. And now let’s welcome two new songs in the Top 10. First to mention is “All the time” (#9) by Zara Larsson. This one is ready for reaching the Top 5 at least and maybe it could go all the way up. The other new song is “Señorita” (#10) by Shawn Mendes feat. Camila Cabello. For me this one has written hit all over it and it is a possible #1.

The greatest gainer of the week is “Taking me back” (#41) by LANY. While the band’s former #1’s are on their way down this one climbed up 23 spots and is attacking the Top 40. Maybe this one is the bands next big hit. So let’s speak about this week’s new entries. 17 new songs entered this week’s edition and the highest one is by a chart newcomer. Over the last years British singer Freya Ridings had some hits in Great Britain, but on this chart she failed to enter with these songs. Now her latest single “Castles” (#22) is the highest new entry and I’m sure that this one will be her first Top 10 hit single too. On the other had I don’t see any future hit singles by her, because I normally don’t like her singing style which prevented her from charting in the past. The 2nd highest new entry is by another newcomer. It is “Next to you” (#42) by Clara Rubensson. I don’t know much about this 17 year old girl from Sweden, but I hope that she will do as well as Zara Larsson. “Next to you” is surely a good start. The third song with a Top 50 debut “Missing you” (#44) by Ingrid Michaelson. This one is the first single out of her new album “Stranger songs”.

Week 440 – August 3^rd , 2019

After a long time US singer Pink finally scored another #1 hit. This week “I am here” (#1) climbed up two spots to the summit. Last week’s #1 “If I can’t have you” (#2) by Shawn Mendes dropped one spot. New at the podium and for the first time into the Top 3 is Katy Perry with her new single “Never really over” (#3). So “Deine Geschichten” (#4, “Your stories”) dropped two spots and is now seen outside the Top 3. Avril Lavigne dropped one spot with her song “I fell in love with the devil” (#5).

Taylor Swift’s song “You need to calm down” (#6) is now near the Top 5 right at the moment I don’t feel that this song will reach the #1. This is also out of reach for Carly Rae Jepsen and her song “Too much” (#7) which dropped two spots. Up one spot are “All the time” (#8) by Zara Larsson and “Señorita” (#9) by Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello. New in this section is “Hi babe” (#10) by German rapper Juju. For her this is the 2nd time she can be found within the Top 10 and maybe this song is entering the Top 5.

The award for the greatest gainer goes to Cœur de Pirate with her songs “Je veux rentrer” (#63, “I want to go home”) and “Dans les bras de l'autre” (#64, “In the arms of the other”) which each climbed up 16 spots. The highest debut is “Higher love” (#69). Is is a remix of Whitney Houston’s cover of Steve Winwood song. Directly behind there are the debuts by Liam Gallagher with “Once” (#70) and Emma with “Incredibile voglia di niente” (#71, “Incredible desire for nothing”). Other debuts are “Millionär” (#82, “Millionaire”) by Julian Le Play, “Corragio” (#91, “Courage”) by Emma, “I’ll be alright” (#92) by Chris Holsten, “Natural villain” (#94) by The Man Who, “Auf mich” (#95, “Here’s to me”) by Fiva, “Good love” (#94) by The Adelaides and “Antisocial” (#100) by Ed Sheeran & Travis Scott.

Week 441 – August 10^th , 2019

Everybody is chanting “I am here” (#1) by Pink. Oh wait that’s only me. I like this song and so Pink is gaining another week at the top. “I am here” is still followed by former #1 “If I can’t have you” (#2) by Shawn Mendes. The Top 2 hasn’t changed and so neither the next two songs. “Never really over” (#3) by Katy Perry is holding its spot at the podium while “Deine Geschichten” (#4, “Your stories”) is just behind. New in the Top 5 is “You need to calm down” (#5) by Taylor Swift. I hope that I like her new album.

The 2nd half of the Top 10 is led by Zara Larsson’s “All the time” (#6). This song is currently on its way into the Top 3 and it will be interesting to see if this song will be her 2nd #1. Big concurrence for this song is “Señorita” (#7) by Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello. This song is also on the #1 shortlist. Down three spots is former #1 “I fell in love with the devil” (#8) by Avril Lavigne who is entering this week’s chart with two more songs from her album “Head above water”. German rap singer Juju climbed up one spot with her smash “Hi babe” (#9). This one is definitely no typical German rap song and so it is nice to find a song out of this genre within the Top 10. New in this section is Freya Ridings with her catchy “Castles” (#10). So far she hadn’t any hit (on my chart) which means that she really could build up castles from the rubble of her missing chart carrier.

My PC problems carried on this week which means that I had only limited time to check out new music, but I’ve. Before I write something about the debuts let’s have a look which song impressed me most this week. The greatest gainer of the week is “Heart won’t break” (#62) by Delta Rae. This song climbed up 23 spots which is pretty good. After this we can look at the debuts. They are a little bit strange this week, because YouTube discovered songs from Spain for me. I’m not sure why, but some of these songs I liked. Most of these songs have been released late in 2018 or early in 2019. And then there is the fact that several of the singers participated at the Spanish talent show “Operación Triunfo” (“Triumph Operation”) in 2017. The highest ranked song of this debuts is “Lo malo” (#76, “The bad”) by Aitana & Ana Guerra. Aitana finished 2nd and Ana Guerra 5th. The next one is “Mujer bruja” (#86, “Witch woman”) by Lola Indigo who finished 16th and Mala Rodríguez. Then I debut Nerea Rodríguez who finished 8th with her single “Y ahora no” (#94, “And not now”). Also from this show is Miriam Rodríguez who finished 3rd. She debuts with her duet “No!” (#95) with Antonio José. Also from Spain is “Un milagro” (#87, “A miracle”) by María Parrado & Pablo Lopez. And last but no least there is with “Suéltate el pelo” (#88, “Let your hair down”) by TINI another song in Spanish from this Argentinian singer. Also not in English is Korean song “Terminal” (#93) by Shawn. Other debuts are “It was in me” (#70) and “Souvenir” (#71) by Avril Lavigne and “Moonlight” (#97) by Ali Gatie.

Week 442 – August 17^th , 2019

Last week’s top song “I am here” (#3) by Pink dropped two spots and opened the way for a brand new #1. Zara Larsson took over and scored her 2nd #1 with “All the time” (#1) which is nice done, but I’ve my doubts that this one will score a 2nd week, because of the new Shawn Mendes. He and his duet partner Camila Cabello went all the way to #2 with “Señorita”. Therefore his other smash “If I can’t have you” (#4) dropped two spots and is now outside the Top 2. Also dropping down is former #1 “Deine Geschichten” (#5) by Jeanette Biedermann.

Next in line and directly behind the Top 5 is former Top 5 hit “You need to calm down” (#6) by Taylor Swift. This week she dropped one spot, but this is nothing as “Never really rover” (#7) by Katy Perry dropped four spots. It seems that “Never really over” is now on its way out of the Top 10 very soon which I hardly thought about last week. Each of the next two songs climbed up one spots. First to mention is “Hi babe” (#8) by Juju. The other one is “Castles” (#9) by Freya Ridings. The only new songs in the Top 10 is “Taking me back” (#10) by LANY who had several #1’s this year.

The award for the greatest gainer of the week goes to two different acts in this week’s edition. The higher ranked song is “Complainer” (#39) by Cold War Kids. The other one is “Je veux rentrer” (#40) by Cœur de Pirate. Each of these songs climbed up 17 spots. So let’s talk about this week’s new entry. Last week I pointed out that I had to debut several songs from Spain. This week also a lot of non-English songs got their debut. In total I’m charting 31 songs which aren’t sung in English which is probably a new record, but first things first. The highest debut is by Austrian newcomer Tina Naderer. She originally released “Bleibst du bei mir” (#51, “Will you stay with me”) six months ago, but I discovered it just this week. So she got a good, but not perfect start with her debut single. I believe she will do well in the next weeks, but I will see.

The 2nd best new entry is by one of my favourite bands over the last years. It is the new single “Whywhywhy” (#53) by MisterWives. They have recently singed to Fueled By Ramen and “Whywhywhy” is the first single from their upcoming album which I’m really waiting for. There is another debut within the Top 60. This one comes from Columbia and it isn’t Shakira who had a #1 single with “Nada” (“Nothing”) this year. It is the girl band Ventino which has been founded back in 2015. As I discovered several songs from Spain last week YouTube suggest me more songs in Spain this week and so I discovered this Columbian girl band. As I’ve not heard them before I gave their older singles a changes and so 2017 single “Apaga y vámonos” (#59, “Turn off and let’s go”) brings them their chart debut in 2019 and there are some more singles by them which I will chart in the future.

Week 443 – August 24^th , 2019

Shawn Mendes scores his 2nd #1 this year with “Señorita”. For his duet partner Camila Cabello this song is her 1st #1. While this song climbed up one spot former #1 “All the time” (#2) by Zara Larsson dropped one spot. “I am here” (#3) by Pink is completing the podium. The following two songs are also former #1’s. “Deine Geschichten” (#4, “Your stories”) by Jeanette Biederman climbed up one spot and switched the spot with the 2nd Top 5 smash by Shawn Mendes “If I can’t have you” (#5). This means that the Top 5 includes five #1 songs.

Directly behind this group of #1 hits is “Hi babe” (#6) by Juju. I’m not sure if this song has everything to break into this group, but who knows. Next in line is “Castles” (#7) by Freya Ridings. Here I believe that this song could reach the Top 5 by next week, mostly because it is the “youngest” song within the Top 5. Up two spots is “Taking me back” (#8) by LANY. I love their album “Malibu nights” and this song is no exception. This song is maybe no #1 material, but it is definitely a song which should reach the Top 5 at least. Although Taylor Swift has just released her new album “Lover” her single “You need to calm down” (#9) dropped three spots and is on its way out of the Top 10. It is the first time since her pre-“Red” area she hasn’t reached #1 with one out of her 1st two singles from an album. Behind Taylor Swift Canadian singer Cœur de Pirate celebrates a Top 10 comeback with “Ne m'appelle pas” (#10, “Don’t call me”).

Within the spots between 11 and 20 there are three new songs. German star Tim Bendzko reached the Top 20 for the first time in his career with “Hoch” (#12, “High”). He started his career with his 2011 hit “Nur noch kurz die Welt retten” (I quickly just have to save the world”) which I never charted. Since that his chart career was a hit and miss with only a handful of small hits. In 2019 it seems that he could reach the Top 10 for the first time, but I believe this one could be his “one-hit-wonder”. The 2nd new addition is Clara Mae’s new one “Loved you once” (#18). I absolutely love this reduced song. It is no “Sorry for writing all the songs about you”, but I believe that at least a Top 10 spot is absolutely in reach. And last but not least Whitney Houston reached the Top 20. Norwegian DJ Kygo helped her to reach this part of the chart with her cover of “Higher love” (#19). “Higher love” is also the greatest gainer of the week.

This week sees 13 new songs. The highest debut is just as last week by an Austrian act. Edmund are known for their fresh new Austro Pop. I just discovered them and now they give their debut with the single “Büdl an der Wond” (#21, “Picture on the wall”) which they released three months ago. This song is also the only debut within the Top 50. The 2nd best new song is “Kuliko Jana - Eine neue Zeit” (#57, “Kuliko Jana – A new time”) by Oonagh. Oonagh is the German singer Senta-Sofia Delliponti. Back in 2003 she participated in the German show “Star Search” and finished 2nd. In 2006 she released her first solo single “Scheißegal” (“I don’t give a shit”) under the name Senta-Sofia. In 2014 she changed her stage name into Oonagh and released her debut album “Oonagh”. Since that she is known for her songs in German and Elvish. “Kuliko Jana - Eine neue Zeit” is the first single from her 4th album and the first time she reached the chart.

Week 444 – August 31^st , 2019

Back in 2011 I decided to do my personal chart again after some years of absence. Since that some rare things occur which even I rarely can imagine. This week such a thing eventuates. Back in 2011 Swedish band Peter, Bjorn & John sprinted in their 5th week on chart from #16 to #1 with their single “Second chance”. They spent two weeks at the top and later this song became the opening theme from the sitcom “2 broke girls”. It lasted only one year that Celeste Buckingham a Slovak singer of Swiss-American origins reached #1 with “Run run run” which climbed up from #19 to #1 in 2012. This song also only spent two weeks at the top. These two songs were also the only two songs reaching #1 from outside the Top 10 until this week. With this week Kygo & Whitney Houston are joining this club. Their song “Higher love” (#1) became the third song to reach #1 from outside the Top 10 with a climb from #19 to #1. Hopefully this song spends more than two weeks at #1 as the predecessors.

Last week’s #1 “Señorita” (#2) by Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello had to leave the top spot after a single week. Also down one spot is “All the time” (#3) by Zara Larsson. The 2nd new song within the Top 5 is by British singer Freya Ridings. Her song “Castles” (#4) climbed up three spots. The Top 5 is rounded out with former #1 “I am here” (#5) by Pink

Near the Top 5 is “Deine Geschichten” (#6, “Your stories”) by Jeanette Biederman which dropped two spots this week. Next in line is “Taking me back” (#7) by LANY. They are trying to do the next step with this song, but this will be hard. As his other song “If I can’t have you” (#8) by Shawn Mendes dropped. This also applies for “Hi babe” (#9) by Juju. The only song which is holding its spot within the Top 10 is “Ne m’appelle pas” (#10, “Don’t call me”) by Cœur de Pirate.

The highest debut isn’t by an Austrian artist in this week’s edition. Sure it has been tight, but this week US singer Pink has done it with her single “Can we pretend” (#41). I finally bought her album “Hurts 2B human” and now this single and her other song “Hustle” (#58) got their debut. Directly behind the highest debut by Pink the 2nd highest debut can be found. It is the new single by Austrian Mathea. Maybe you remember her with her debut earlier this year with the song “2x” which reached the Top 10. Her second official single “Chaos” failed to enter the chart, but with her 3rd single “Alles Gute” (#42, “Whishing you well”) she returns very strong. For the moment I can say that I like her breakup songs more than her love songs, but the time will tell if she will only have success with such songs. These two songs were the only debuts within the Top 50.

Week 445 – September 7^th , 2019

Last week I surprised you with a new #1. This week “Higher love” (#1) by Kygo & Whitney Houston is defending the top spot, but there is a new contender. British singer Freya Ridings is up two spots with her chart debut single “Castles” (#2). So there are three acts which haven’t been in the Top 2 before the end of August 2019. While these songs are celebrating their success former #1 “Señorita” (#3) by Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello dropped one spot. Also down one spot is “All the time” (#4) by Zara Larsson. Back in the Top 5 are LANY. This time they return with their single “Taking me back” (#5).

The next three songs in line are all former #1’s. Let’s start with the highest ranked one which is “I am here” (#6) by Pink. Her 2nd single from the album “Hurts 2B human” is on its way up, but more later. This song is followed by “Deine Geschichten” (#7, “Your stories”) by Jeanette Biederman who debuts with her new one in this week’s edition. And last but not least “If I can’t have you” (#8) by Shawn Mendes is still in the Top 10. Definitely a good song in my opinion is the new single by Clara Mae. For her “Loved you once” (#9) is her 2nd Top 10 hit. For the first time within the Top 10 is German star Tim Bendzko with his recent smash “Hoch” (#10, “High”).

As mentioned above Pink’s 2nd single from her new album is on its way up the chart. This week “Can we pretend” (#18) climbed up 23 spots and is awarded with the greatest gainer. This is a clear sign that this song is ready for a spot within the Top 10 at least. For the highest new entry you’ve to look a little bit down the chart. It is a single from Taylor Swift’s new album. “Lover” is in at #55. For the moment I’m not sure about this specific album. It is good, but I’ve some doubts about it which I can’t really describe. Therefore “Lover” starts its charting career a little lower as expected, but “Lover” isn’t the only the debut from this album. Her promotional single “The archer” (#81) also got its debut. This is definitely a debut which isn’t as good as her debuts over last years from “Red” or “Reputation”. I expected more, but I still hope that these songs are climbing up for a good chart record in the future.

Other debuts are “Besser bei dir” (#73, “Better with you”) by Jeanette Biedermann, “Outnumbered” (#93) by Dermot Kennedy and “Eiskalt” (#94, “Stone cold”) by Matthias Reim.

Week 446 – September 14^th , 2019

Although there are lot of new entries the entire Top 5 is the same as last week. So “Higher love” (#1) is defending its title while “Castles” (#2) by Freya Ridings is still sticking at the runner’s up spot. Also holding their podium spot are Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello with their smash “Señorita” (#3). Former #1 “All the time” (#4) by Zara Larsson is fighting against the Top 5 leave which is also the main concern by LANY “Taking me back” (#5).

Not far behind the Top 5 is “Loved you once” (#6) by Clara Mae who climbed up three spots with this track. German singer Tim Bendzko is walking in the footprints and also climbed up three spots with “Hoch” (#7, “High”). Down two spots are “I am here” (#8) by Pink and “Deine Geschichten” (#9, “Your stories”) by Jeanette Biedermann. The only new song within this section of the part is “Büdl an da Wond” (#10, “Picture on the wall”) by Edmund.

Week 447 – September 21^st , 2019

I’ve to disappoint everyone who is looking for a new #1 in this week’s edition. Kygo and especially Whitney Houston are still shining bright from the top spot with their incredible cover of “Higher love” (#1). So Freya Ridings is stuck at the runner’s up spot with “Castles” (#2) which is not bad for a debut song, but this one is definitely a song where I will end thinking about what if. Maybe next week, but here I’ve to point out that I’m not sure to replace “Higher love” within the next two weeks or so. Up three spots is Clara Mae. In early 2019 she had a #1 hit with “Sorry for writing all the songs about you”. Now she returns very strong with “Loved you once” (#3). Each of the former #1’s “Señorita” (#4) by Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello and “All the time” (#5) by Zara Larsson dropped one spot.

These songs are followed directly by two songs in German. First to mention is Tim Bendzko with his highest charting song “Hoch” (#6, “High”). Recently he had released the follow up and it will definitely be interesting to find out whether I will chart this song and if this song will do as well as “Hoch”. Then there are Edmund with their song “Büdl an da Wond” (#8, “Picture on the wall”). I can highly recommend this song if you’re speaking German, but it could be difficult for those who aren’t native speakers because this song is in Austrian dialect. Next in line is the first of two new songs within the Top 10. Pink feat. Cash Cash climbed up three spots with their single “Can we pretend” (#11) and if I’m honest this song is the one I believe it could replace “Higher love” at #1. Down four spots are LANY with “Taking me back” (#9). The Top 10 is rounded out with the 2nd new song in this part of the chart. Italian singer Emma returns with a song from the boom edition of her album “Essere qui” (“To be here”). “Incredibile voglia di niente” (“Incredible desire for nothing”) climbed up two spots.

The greatest gainer of the week is once more “Besser mit dir” (#34, “Better with you”) by Jeanette Biedermann. I really appreciate this one. For the moment I can say that I see this one within my Top 10, but when this will happen is only written in the stars. This week’s edition sees nine debuts. The highest debut is by my favourite singer from Italy Emma. Early this month she released with “Io sono bella” (#41, “I am beautiful”) a new single. This is absolutely a song why I love her singing. As I’m looking forward for new songs by her I hope that this one is the first single from a new album by her. Unfortunately this song is the only debut within the Top 80.

Other debuts are “Wanted” (#84) by OneRepublic, “Bethroom floor” (#87) by Maddie & Tae, “What am I” (#90) by Why Don’t We, “Really don’t like U” (#91) by Tove Lo feat. Kylie Minogue, “Sorry” (#92) by Mali-Koa, “Okay okay” (#94) by Alessia Cara, “Can’t help me now” (#96) by Rob Thomas and “Rain” (#98) by Ben Platt.

Week 448 – September 28^th , 2019

Whitney Houston’s posthumous release “Higher love” (#1) is still shining from the top for a 5th week in a row. Norwegian DJ Kygo has done an excellent job. This brings me to Freya Ridings. Her catchy “Castles” (#2) is stuck at the runner’s up spot. This is definitely a shame, but I still prefer “Higher love” over “Castles”. Last week up to #3 and this week also at #3 is “Loved you once” by Clara Mae. Sadly this one is also only a favourite of mine and there is no charting success in sight. While “Loved you once” can only be found on certain personal charts “Señorita” (#4) by Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello has been and is still a big hit here in Austria. “Señorita” stayed at #1 in Austria for seven weeks in two runs which is the longest run at #1 in 2019. The 2nd longest run at #1 with two runs and six weeks total had “Old town road” by Lil Nas X which I’ve never charted. New in the Top 5 is “Büdl an da Wond” (#5, “Picture on the wall”) by Edmund.

Up two spots is “Can we pretend” (#6) by Pink feat. Cash Cash. This song should be within the Top 5 by next week. Next in line is former #1 “All the time” (#7) by Zara Larsson which dropped two spots. Emma’s song “Incredibile voglia di niente” (#8, “Incredible desire for nothing”) climbed up two spots while Tim Bendzko’s “Hoch” (#9, “High”) dropped three spots. This week’s Top 10 is rounded out with the only new song within the Top 10 “Una volta ancora” (#10, “Once again”) by Fred De Palma feat. Ana Mena.

Last week Emma debuted with her latest single. This week “Io sono bella” (#20, “I am beautiful”) sprinted up the chart and so this song is placed 21 spots better than last week. This means that “Io sono bella” is greatest gainer of the week. In this week’s edition there are only four debuts. The highest one is “When we were still young” (#79) by Klaas. Other debuts are “Some say” (#92) by Nea, “Don’t call me angel” (#95) by Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus & Lana Del Rey and “Kill my mind” (#96) by Louis Tomlinson.

Week 449 – October 5^th , 2019

Yes! Kygo and Whitney Houston are scoring a sixth week at the top with their super cover “Higher love” (#1). New at the podium and directly behind is Pink feat. Cash Cash with “Can we pretend” (#2). This song climbed up four spots. Two spots up and also new at the podium is Austro Pop by Edmund with their song “Büdl an da Wond” (#3, “Picture on the wall”). This leads to Freya Ridings. She dropped two spots with her smash “Castles” (#4). Also down two spots is Clara Mae with her recent single “Loved you once” (#5).

Knocking at the door to the Top 5 is Italien singer Emma. Her album cut “Incredibile voglia di niente (#6, “Incredible desire for nothing”) climbed up two spots, but more interesting is where her new single can be found at the moment. “Io sono bella” (#11, “I am beautiful”) is also knocking at a “door”. This song definitely should reach the Top by next week. The following two songs are former #1’s. First to mention is “Señorita” (#7) by Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello which dropped three spots. Dropping one spot is “Deine Geschichten” (#8, “Your stories”) by Jeanette Biedermann. The 2nd song in Italian within the Top 10 is “Una volta ancora” (#9, “Once again”) by Fred De Palma feat. Ana Mena. Maybe next week there are three songs in Italian within the Top 10. And last but not least “Alles Gute” (#10, “Wishing you well”) by Mathea finally reached the Top after a one spot climb.

German DJ Klaas did best this week with his new single “When we were still young” (#61). This song climbed up 18 spots in its 2nd week on chart and therefore this song is the greatest gainer of the week. “When we were still young” is one spot behind the biggest debut. It is “110” (#60) by Capital Bra & Samra feat. LEA. As I pointed out several times before I don’t really like rap music especially German rap and now it seems I’ve to apologize to all the people who are singing rap. Juju has reached the Top 10 twice this year and with this week Ukrainian-German rapper Capital Bra and German-Lebanese rapper Samra finally got their chart debut after years of success in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. They teamed up with German singer LEA who had some hits on my chart before. I really like her singing the refrain in this song. The rap part is not bad and not really good (this is only my modest opinion and this should not offend sensibilities of those who are into rap music) but LEA is lifting up this song. I’m sure that this song can reach the Top 30, but for more I can’t vouch for.

Week 450 – October 12^th , 2019

This month my listening behaviour changed as I wasn’t able to listen to more music as in the previous months. Therefore only little moves can be found in this week’s edition. This brings me to the Top 5 which is totally stable this week. Kygo and Whitney Houston are holding the top spot for a 7th week with “Higher love” (#1). Still behind is Pink feat. Cash Cash with “Can we pretend” (#2). Also holding their spots are Edmund with “Büdl an da Wond” (#3, “Picture on the wall”), Frey Ridings with “Castles” (#4) and Clara Mae with “Loved you once” (#5).

Directly behind this non-moving Top 5 is the only new song within the Top 10. It is “Io sono bella” (#6, “I am beautiful”) by Emma which climbed up five spots. This song should be in the Top 5 by next week. Down one spot is her other Top 10 hit “Incredibile voglia di niente” (#7, “Incredible desire for nothing”). All good things come in threes. The next one is another song in Italian. It is “Una volta ancora” (#8, “Once again”) by Fred De Palma feat. Ana Mena. Next in line is “Alles Gute” (#9, “Wishing you well”) by Austrian singer Mathea. Two out of three singles reaching the Top 10 isn’t bad. Maybe this song will outperform “2x” by next week. And last but not least to mention is “Señorita” (#10) by Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello.

The greatest gainer of the week is once again “When we were still young” (#46) by Klaas. While this song sprinted into the Top 50 the highest debut can only be found outside the Top 80. It is “If you need me” (#82) by Julia Michaels. After seven weeks Kygo and Whitney Houston dropped one spot with their incredible cover “Higher love” (#2). This made the way free for Pink to score her 6th #1 with “Can we pretend” (#1). Still at the podium is the Austro pop song “Büdl an da Wond” (#3, “Picture on the wall”). For the first time within the Top 10 is “Besser mit dir” (#7, “Better with you”) by Jeanette Biederman who scored earlier this year a #1 with “Deine Geschichten” (#18, “Your stories”). Next in line is another Austro pop song. This time by Mathea with her recent single “Alles Gute” (#8, “Wishing you well”). Down two spots are two songs in Italian. First to mention is “Incredibile voglia di niente” (#9, “Incredible desire for nothing”) by Emma. The other one is “Una volta ancora” (#10, “Once again”) by Fred De Palma feat. Ana Mena.

This week’s edition sees two songs sharing the award for the greatest gainer of the week. The higher ranked one is “What am I” (#51) by Why Don’t We. The other one is “Ocean” (#63) by Lady Antebellum. Once more the highest debut can’t be found within the Top 50. This week it is “Besch ready für die Liebi vo mer?” (#62, “Are you ready for falling in love with me?” by Hecht. Swiss band Hecht had a minor hit with “Kawasaki” before, but with this song they could do very well although this song is in Swiss dialect. Here I really like the lyrics and the sound of the song so that this one could be a big surprise. The 2nd best debut is by Irish band The Script with their song “The last time” (#65).

Week 452 – October 26^th , 2019

Pink is defending the throne with her hit “Can we pretend” (#1). Cash Cash definitely did a good work with this track. Still within the Top 2 is former #1 “Higher love” (#2) by Kygo & Whitney Houston. I’m not sure when this song will leave the podium, but it can't be anytime soon. Swapping spots are Emma with “Io sono bella” (#3, “I am beautiful) and Edmund with “Büdl an da Wond” (#4, “Picture on the wall”). “Io sono bella” is a true contender for the top spot and maybe in one or two weeks this song will take over. Up two spots is Jeanette Biederman with “Besser mit dir” (#5, “Better with you”). This one follows within the footsteps by her #1 hit “Deine Geschichten” (#19, “Your stories”).

While “Besser mit dir” entered the Top 5 for the first time Freya Ridings’ “Castles” (#6) had to leave after eight weeks. Next in line is the third highest ranked song in German. Austrian singer Mathea climbed up one spot with her recent single “Alles Gute” (#7, “Wishing you well”). Down two spots is Clara Mae with her single “Loved you once” (#8). This is still a good song, but it is on its way out of the Top 10. “Incredibile voglia di niente” (#9; “Incredible desire for nothing”) by Emma is holding its spot for one more week. New within the Top 10 is Polish DJ Gromee. With his chart debut “Love you better” (#10) he finally reached the Top 10 in its 9th week on chart.

Last week US boy band Why Don’t We climbed up 13 spots with their recent single “What am I” (#32) and they got the award for the greatest gainer of the week. This week they climbed up 19 spots and now they are near the Top 30 for the first time in the career. Because of this climb this song is also the greatest gainer of this week’s edition. So let’s look at this week’s debuts. The highest one is by Selena Gomez. She released two singles and the higher ranked one is the more reduced one “Lose you to love me” (#42). This one reminds me of “The heart wants what it wants”. This song reached #1 on my chart and stayed there for three weeks back in 2015. Maybe this will be her next #1, but only the future will tell. Her other single “Look at me now” (#97) debuted down the chart. “Lose you to love me” is also the only debut within the Top 50.

Other debuts are “Ich kann dir nur versprechen” (#71, “I can only promise you”) by LiZZA, “Flowers” (#86) by Abby Anderson, “Reason” (#87) by Supermassive feat. Smogy, “When I wasn’t watching” (#88) by Mandy Moore, “Bluebird” (#89) by Miranda Lambert, “Disparos” (#94, “Shots”) by Dani Fernández, “I do too” (#95) by The Reklaws, “Details” (#98) by Billy Currington and “Old country soul” (#99) by The Reklaws.
