Week 428 – May 11^th , 2019

Lean back and relax. Still leading with a double pack is LANY. Their song “If you see her” (#1) is now #1 for the fifth consecutive week which means that “Thick and thin” (#2) is in its fifth week supporting this song at the runner’s up spot. I can’t believe LANY is still leading with two songs. New at the podium is teen singer Indiana Massara. Her cover “I think we’re alone now” (#3) works well and earns her the first Top 3 smash on my chart. This song swapped spots with “Now that I found you” (#4) by Carly Rae Jepsen. Up one spot and back in my Top 5 is Lena with “Don’t lie to me” (#5). I’m not lying if I say that I really like this song.

Fletcher is trying to reach a spot within my Top 5. This week “Undrunk” (#6) climbed up two spots. This means she left former #1 “Under water (club edit)” (#7) by AVEC behind. Emma returns with her beautiful song “Malelingue” (#8, “Gossips”). Emma replaced Emma Bunton who dropped out with “Baby please don’t stop” (#12). Down two spots is former #1 “Tell me it’s over” (#9) by Avril Lavigne. I’m sure that I will welcome her in the near future with new songs in this part of my chart. The last but not least song in my Top 10 is “When the night moves” (#10) by Tyler Hilton & Kate Voegele.

Last week saw a massive of 19 debuts. This week things calmed down and so there are only six songs debuting. The highest debut is a German rap song. Especially over the last two years German rap songs “exploded” and they are actually dominating the charts in Germany and Austria. As I don’t like most of these songs they are hardly represented on my chart so that followers from outside the DACH-region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) didn’t know most of these songs. So it is a little sensation that a German rap song is debuting on my chart. For Juju who is also part of SXTN which I’ve charted once or twice in the past “Vermissen” (#78, “ Miss”) is her solo chart debut. She is featuring Henning May who is the lead singer of German rock band AnnenMayKantereit which I have never charted. For him it is also his chart debut. Other debuts are “Maybe, I’m afraid” (#91) by Lovelytheband, “Ça c'est fait” (#92, “That’s done”) by Souf, “Fahrrad” (#93, “Bicycle”) by Juli, “Summer days” (#94) by Martin Garrix feat. Macklemore & Patrick Stump and “Leave her wild” (#95) by Tyler Rich.

The German-rap is a well-known genre since the middle of the 1980s. It lasted until 1992 when the first song out of this genre reached a noteable chart spot. It had been "Di da!?" ("That one") by Die Fantastischen Vier ("The Fabolous Four") which reached #1 in Austria and Switzerland and #2 in Germany. "Di da!?" was part of the "Spaßrap" ("Fun rap") which is nowadays a subgenre of the German-rap. It lasted until 1995 when German-rap got a constant factor in the charts with acts as Blumentopf ("Flowerpot"), Massive Töne ("Massive Tones"), Freundeskreis ("Circle of friends"), Absolute Beginner and many more. The songs were pop orientated and so I liked some of these songs. This heyday ended in 2000. The early 2000's saw the success of the German-gangsta-rap. Part of this particular subgenre are Bushido and Sido. Until today Bushido had no success on my chart while Sido had some hits with songs which are pop orientated. Sure there are some more acts of this genre which had success, but nothing compareable. In the early 2010's German rapper Cro had several hits and because of the pop influence he had also a #1 on my chart (which is definitely unbelievable). Although Bushido, Sido and Cro had constant success the charts in the DACH-region were dominated by other genre.

Over the last two years this definitely changed. I just looked over this year's charts in Austria. Most of the time four or more German-rap songs can be found within the Top 10. At the beginning of January the following rap singles were in the Top 10 in Austria

Several songs debuted in the Top 10 this year as:

"Prinzessa" by Capital Bra (#1 debut in January)
"Orbit" by Shirin David (#9 debut)
"Romeo & Juliet" by Loredana x Mozzik (#4 debut)

This are only debuts in January and February. There is no end in sight. So there are more Top 3 debuts as

By the way Mero's first three solo singles reached #1 in Germany and in total he had four #1 singles with his first 4 singles. He is also the first rapper reaching #1 in Germany with his debut solo single back in 2018.

These are the songs which never found their way on my chart and so you are missing these "highlights" from the DACH-region. So if you like rap songs and maybe you like German-rap songs too my chart isn't chart you're looking for. But as I know that rap songs aren't doing as good as other genres here I believe nobody will miss these songs.

Week 429 – May 18^th , 2019

It had to happen once. After weeks of searching the right formula of the love philtre to get the partner back I’m changing the direction. This week I’m looking for the hemlock to wipe away all the feelings. US singer Fletcher climbed up five spots to get her first #1 with her first charting hit “Undrunk” (#1). After eight consecutive weeks LANY can’t be found at #1. “If you see her” (#2) and “Thick and Thin” (#3) each dropped one spot to complete this week’s podium. Also down are the other two songs within the Top 5. For Indiana Massara her Top 3 run with “I think we’re alone now” (#4) only lasted one week. The other dropper is “Now that I found you” (#5) by Carly Rae Jepsen.

Speculating with a spot in the Top 5 is Emma after a two spot climb with “Malelingue” (#6, “Gossips”). Lena’s “Don’t lie to me” (#7) dropped two spots. Also down two spots is former #1 “Under water (club edit”) (#8) by AVEC. Next in line is Avril Lavigne who is still fighting for a spot in the Top 10 with “Tell me it’s over” (#9). The Top 10 is rounded out with “Walk me home” (#9) by Pink which is her first Top 10 hit from her new album “Hurts 2B human”.

The greatest gainer of the week is French song “J’ai su” (#44, “I knew”) by Anaïs Delva. This week’s greatest gainer is a good indicator that the highest debut can’t be found within the Top 40. Unknown US singer John.k got his debut with “If we never met” (#52) just outside the Top 50. It is a good song and because of the fact that most of the top songs are growing “old” it should reach the Top 20. The 2nd best debut is by Heather Nova. She charted once back in 2011 for a single week with “Higher ground” (peak #97). Now she returns with her first single “The wounds we bled” (#80) which is the first single from her upcoming new album “Pearl”. It is definitely a good song, but I doubt that she will get a lot of attention.

Other debuts are “Little help” (#81) by The BossHoss feat. Mimi & Josy, “La libertad” (#83, “Freedom”), “If I can’t have you” (#84) by Shawn Mendes, “I don’t care” (#85) by Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber, “Sing it with me” (#92) by JP Cooper & Astrid S, “Nach Hause” (#93, “Home”) by Ambre Vallet, “Mother tongue” (#94) by Bring Me the Horizon, “Silent thunder” (#99) by Crazy Lixx.

Week 430 – May 25^th , 2019

It is great to see “Undrunk” (#1) still at the top. Fletcher is leading for a 2nd week with her breakup hymn. Also for a 2nd week the podium is completed with two songs by LANY. Since weeks “If you see her” (#2) is followed by “Thick and thin” (#3) and so this week is no exception. Up two spots and into the Top 5 is “Malelingue” (#4, “Gossips”) by my favourite Italian singer Emma. While this song is up Indiana Massara’s cover “I think we’re alone now” (#5) is down one spot.

Carly Rae Jepsen dropped out of the Top 5 with “Now that I found you” (#5). This could be bad news because “Julien” dropped out of the chart last week. On the other hand she released another single which debuts this week. Next in line is German Lena with “Don’t lie to me” (#7). She also debuts with her newbie this week. The following two songs sprinted up this week’s chart. First to mention is the sweet country song “Blue suede couch” (#8) by Lacy Cavalier. For her this is her first Top 10 hit. The other one is Avril Lavigne. She placed “I fell in love with the devil” (#9) into the Top 10. This means that she has now four Top 10 hits out of five charted songs from her new album “Head above water” which is definitely very good. Rounding out this week’s Top 10 is Pink with “Walk me home” (#10).

This week sees ten new entries. All of these songs missed the Top 50 mostly because due to the fact that I really hadn’t time to listen to music as much as I would normally do. So expect a big loop for some of these songs by next week. Before writing about this week’s new entries I’ve to point out that German rap song “Vermissen” (#52, “Miss”) by JuJu feat. Henning May is the greatest gainer of the week after climbing up 18 spots. The highest debut is “Too much” (#53) by Carly Rae Jepsen. I really like this song and it could be another Top 10 smash for her following “Now that I found you”. Finally “Peer pressure” (#56) by James Bay feat. Julia Michaels got its debut. It lasted several weeks before I decided to chart this song, but now I believe it is the right time.

Other debuts are “Boundaries” (#57) by Lena, “Denxu” (#66) by Fettes Brot, “Schau mich nicht so an” (#77) by Lotte, “Woke up late” (#84) by Drax Project feat. Hailee Steinfeld, “Only when it rains” (#85) by Frank Walker & Astrid S, “You and I” (#94) by Barns Courtney and “Maybe it was me” (#99) by Sody.

Week 431 – June 1^st , 2019

The first half of the year is going to end soon. So far I’ve to admit that it is a good year in music. Only one single (“Nada” (“Nothing”) by Shakira) spent only a single week at the top of the chart and most of these songs reached the three weeks mark. Fletcher reached this mark this week with “Undrunk” (#1). Maybe it is her last week at the top, because Avril Lavigne’s “Fell in love with the devil” (#4) is sprinting up the chart recently. So I believe this one could be her 3rd #1 from her “Head above water”-album. Between Avril Lavigne and Fletcher are still LANY. Their two former #1’s “Thick and thin” (#3) and “If you see her” (#2) are fighting for the top spots, but I feel that by next week only one song by them will be on the podium. Last but not least in the Top 5 is “Malelingue” (#5, “Gossips”) by Emma.

The 2nd half of the Top 10 is opened with Indiana Massara’s cover of “I think we’re alone now” (#6). It’s great to see this cover song in its 12th week on chart still in the Top 10. Then there is country pop by Lacy Cavalier. Her song “Blue suede couch” (#7) climbed up one spot. Next in line is two spots dropper “Now that I found you” (#8) by Carly Rae Jepsen. Up five spots and into the Top 10 is another song by Avril Lavigne. “Birdie” can now be found at #9. This week’s Top 10 is rounded out with “Don’t lie to me” (#10) by Lena which dropped three spots.

Last week a German rap song was awarded with the greatest gainer. This week the award goes to two songs. The higher ranked one is French pop “J’ai su” (#20, “I knew”) by Anaïs Delva. The other one is “If I can’t have you” (#55) by Shawn Mendes. “If I can’t have you” could be a big surprise for me, because at first I didn’t liked this song. Now it is growing more and more and so I’d not be surprise if this song ends in my Top 20 at least. The highest debut is by chart newcomer Jeanette Biedermann. In the early 2000’s she had several Top 10 hits in Germany and some in Austria and Switzerland. Her last solo single had been released back in 2009. She also has released several singles with her band Ewig which I charted once back in 2013. Now she released her first singles in German and “Deine Geschichten” (#33, “Your stories”) is her 2nd single out of her first album in German language. This song is a deep emotional song wherein she shares her feelings about the loss of her father. I absolutely love this song and I’ve no doubt that this song will end in the Top 10.

Other debuts are “Ausländer” (“80”, “Foreigner”) by Rammstein, “Dimenticherai” (#84, “Forget you”) and “Ogni festa” (#85, “Every party”)by Annalisa, “Walk away” (#86) by Four Of Diamonds, “Stay (don’t go away)” (#87) by David Guetta feat. Raye, “Dried blood” (#99) by Corey Harper and “Best you’ll ever have” (#100) by Inanna.

Week 432 – June 8^th , 2019

Avril Lavigne tried everything to reach #1, but Fletcher withstand the attack. Therefore “Undrunk” (#1) got its 4th week at the top. “I feel in love with the devil” (#2) climbed up two spots and is now in the runner’s up spot. As predicted there is only one song by LANY within the Top 3. It is “If you see her” (#3). “Thick and thin” (#4) dropped one spot and is now directly behind the podium. The only song holding its spot within the Top 5 is “Malelingue” (#5, “Gossips”) by Emma.

For another week the highest ranked country song is “Blue suede couch” (#6) by Lacy Cavalier which climbed up one spot. Two spots up is “Birdie” (#7) which is the 2nd highest ranked song by Avril Lavigne. While these songs climbed up “I think we are alone now” (#8) by Indiana Massara dropped two spots. Next in line is the only new song within the Top 10. It is the French pop song “J’ai su” (#9, “I knew) by Anaïs Delva. It is her 1st Top 10 hit with her first charting song. Hopefully she won’t be a one-hit-wonder, but I’m not sure. This week’s Top 10 is rounded out with former Top 3 smash “Now that I found you” (#10) by Carly Rae Jepsen.

As last week two songs have to share the award for the greatest gainer. The higher ranked song is “I don’t care” (#43). Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber are trying to rock the chart together. Although this song climbed up 20 spots I’m still insecure if this song will reach the Top 20. The other song is the German pop song “Schau mich nicht so an” (#44, “Don’t look at me like that”) by Lotte. This song definitely has something so that I believe it could be a Top 20 hit. Generally this week sees 16 new entries, but the highest one can only be found outside the Top 70. It is another album cut by German singer Antje Schomaker who debuts with three songs in this week’s edition. Her debuts are “An und für dich” (#72, “On and for you”), “Du löst dich auf” (#73, “You dissolve you”) and “Glanz und Gloria” (#74, “Pomp and circumstance”).

Week 433 – June 15^th , 2019

This week Avril Lavigne got her third #1 from the “Head above water”-album. “I fell in love with the devil” (#1) climbed up one spot and changed the spot with former #1 “Undrunk” (#2) by Fletcher. The LANY songs “If you see her” (#3) and “Thick and thin” (#4) are holding their spots. New among the Top 5 songs is Country pop by Lacy Cavalier. Her song “Blue suede couch” (#5) climbed up one spot.

Directly behind the Top 5 is another song by Avril Lavigne. “Birdie” (#6) also climbed up one spot. French singer Anaïs Delva is continuing her upwards trend with climbing up two spots with “J’ai su” (#7, “I knew”). Next in line is the first out of two new songs in the Top 10. For German singer Jeanette Biedermann her deep personal song “Deine Geschichten” (#8, “Your stories”) isn’t only her comeback song it is also her first Top 10 hit with her first charting song since I re-started charting. Caught between the new songs in the Top 10 is “Malelingue” (#9, “Gossips”) by Emma. The other new song in the Top 10 is also a song in German. It is the rap track “Vermissen” (#10, “Miss”) by Juju feat. Henning May. I never thought that this song will go all the way into the Top 10, but I definitely enjoy listening to this song.

While there are “only” nine debuts outside my Top 50 the greatest gainer of the week stormed into this part of the chart. Katy Perry debuted last week with her new song “Never really over” (#30) which samples Dagny’s 2017 single “Love you like that”. “Never really over” climbed up 45 spots and maybe “Love you like that” will be found on the chart in the future because I’ve not charted this song in the past. The highest new entry is by the German comedy duo Das Lumpenpack. Their new single “Hauch mich mal an” (#76, “Breathe on me”) is a decent song which could do well.

Other debuts are “Mad love” (#77) by Mabel, “Ciao baby” (#78) by Wanda, “See you again” (#79) by Helene Fischer - this is her first official single in English -, “Call it what you want” (#83), “This is why we can’t have nice things” (#84) and “Dress” (#88) all by Taylor Swift, “Some people” (#95) by Jasmine Thompson and “Possible” (#100) by Darius & Finlay & Adam Bü feat. Max Landry.

Week 434 – June 22^nd , 2019

I thought about it when I first listened to the new Jeanette Biedermann song. This week she did the last step and climbed up all the way to #1 with her new single “Deine Geschichten” (#1). Not very often a song climbed up seven spots or more to reach #1 on my chart. So congratulation to Jeanette Biedermann for her 1st #1 in her career. “Deine Geschichten” is also the first song in German topping my chart this year. It lasted only one week that “I fell in love with the devil” (#2) by Avril Lavigne topped the chart. Also down one spot is “Undrunk” (#3) by Fletcher. So for the first week since March 23rd there is no song by LANY within the Top 3. Up one spot is country pop by Lacy Cavalier. Her single “Blue suede couch” (#4) is still doing very well, but I doubt that this song will enter the Top 3, because several songs are trying to reach the Top 10. One of the recent victims is Avril Lavigne’s “Birdie” (#12) which dropped out this week after climbing to #6 last week.

The highest ranked song by LANY is still “If you see her” (#5). Their other Top 10 smash “Thick and thin” (#6) just dropped out of the Top 5. Holding its spot is French pop “J’ai su” (#7, “I knew”) by Anaïs Delva. She is followed by the Top 10 debut for “It’s a new day” (#8) by Anouk. German retail store DM is using this song in their actual commercial spot. So I heard this song not even when I listened to it which maybe explains this explosive sprint into the Top 10 in its 8th week on chart. Up one spot is “Vermissen” (#9, “Miss”) by Juju feat. Henning May. Juju also released her new single which should enter the chart next week. The other new song in the Top 10 is “Sixteen” (#10) by Ellie Goulding.

Directly behind the Top 10 several new songs can be found which are on the shortlist for a spot in the Top 10. It is interesting to see how the chart is going to change after moving slow over the last weeks. Some of these songs have the potential to enter the Top 10, but won’t see this holy land because of the concurrence. This week’s greatest gainer only climbed up 11 spots. The award goes to the songs “It’s a new song” (#8) by Anouk and “The first one” (#58) by Astrid S. The highest debut is “You need to calm down” (#41) by Taylor Swift.

Week 435 – June 29^th , 2019

Austria and Europe in general are dealing with one of the biggest heat waves we ever had. The media told us that this is the hottest June in the last 250 years. Beside dealing with this heat wave I’m still listening to old and new music and so here I’m presenting you my latest chart. Still at the top is German singer Jeanette Biedermann with her recent single “Deine Geschichten” (#1, “Your stories”). This emotional song is holding former #1 “I fell in love with the devil” (#2) by Avril Lavigne at the runner’s up spot. Every move is too much in these days and so you find a non-moving Top 6. Therefore “Undrunk” (#3) is still completing the podium. At #4 you can find country pop “Blue suede couch” by Lacy Cavalier and at #5 still the highest ranked song by LANY is “If you see her”.

The 2nd part in the Top 10 is opened by the other Top hit by LANY which is “Thick and thin” (#6). Directly behind you find the first up-moving song. “It’s a new day” (#7) by Anouk climbed up one spot. Also up one spot is “Vermissen” (#8, “Miss”) by Juju feat. Henning May. These two songs are followed by the two newcomers. Let’s welcome back Shawn Mendes. He returns with “If I can’t have you” (#9). Also returning is Carly Rae Jepsen with her new one “Too much” (#10).

Taylor Swift is awarded with the greatest gainer with two of her songs from “Reputation”. Her songs “Call it what you want” (#45) and “This is why we can’t have nice things” (#46) climbed up 35 spots which is pretty good. So let’s see how the debuts have done this week. First of all I’ve to mention that this week’s edition sees a massive of 23 debuts which is nearly a new record. Once before the chart also saw 23 debuts which had been in edition 363. So it lasted 72 weeks before this record was equalized. The highest debut is by Swedish singer Zara Larsson. She had her first chart hit with “Uncover” (peaked at #6) back in 2013. Her only #1 had been “Lush life” back in 2015. Since that she is trying to repeat this success. Her new single “All the time” (#33) has a good debut and maybe it could reach the Top 10 and even more.

The 2nd highest debut is by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello. Shawn Mendes had a #1 smash with “There’s nothing holding me back” back in 2017. His duet partner Camila Cabello failed to reach the Top 10 until today. Their song “Señorita” (#34) has written hit all over it and really believe that this song will do very well. And yes I feel the summer vibe in this song. So it is a big concurrence for “All the time” by Zara Larsson. Next debut in line is “Hi babe” (#35) by JuJu. For her it is the 2nd solo single I’m charting. The song title can be interpreted in two ways. “Hi” can stand for “Hallo” or as she is singing it can also stand for “High [on drugs]”. “Hi babe” is a rather cool German rap song and it should definitely end in the Top 10 as her other hit single “Vermissen”. The fourth straight Top 40 debut is by Swiss Stefanie Heinzmann. I’m feeling the positivity about this song and I really like the summer sound of this song. “Shadows” (#36) could be her first Top 10 hit on my chart.

Two more songs reached the Top 50. Finnish singer Lxandra released several singles over the last two years. None of these songs reached the chart, but with this edition “Swimming pools” (#47) is her first single I’m charting. You should definitely give this one a chance if you’ve not heard it before. The last but not least debut within the Top 50 is “Second” (#49) by Erika Costella. With this song she is dealing with the break-up of her long-time boyfriend. It is a decent song I don’t doubt that this song has the potential to hit the Top 20. Week 436 – July 6^th , 2019

Things calmed down a little bit this week. German singer Jeanette Biedermann is now at the top for a 3rd week in a row with „Deine Geschichten“ (#1, „Your stories“). She is followed by Avril Lavigne and her former #1 “I fell in love with the devil” (#2). Also holding its spot is former #1 “Undrunk” (#3) by Fletcher. Behind the podium you can find for the first time “It’s a new day” (#4) by Anouk. This one is the first out of two new songs in the Top 5. The other one is “If I can’t have you” (#5) by Shawn Mendes. Both songs climbed up four spots to reach this new peak.

While these two songs climbed up country pop song “Blue suede couch” (#6) by Lacy Cavalier dropped two spots. Next in line is “Vermissen” (#7, “Miss”) by Juju feat. Henning May which climbed up one spot. Then we have the two former #1’s by LANY. Still leading this double pack is “If you see her” (#8) which is followed by “Thick and thin” (#9). For both song this could be the last week in the Top 10. This part of the chart is rounded out with “Too much” (#10) by Carly Rae Jepsen.

Last week Taylor Swift was awarded with the greatest gainer for two songs. This week she also got this award, but this week only for “Call it what you want” (#27). As I wrote above things have calmed down. So there are only six debuts. The highest one is the non-album single “Ne m’appelle pas” (#60, “Don’t call me”) by Canadian singer Cœur de Pirate. She had some hit singles in the past and this one could do very well. Other debuts are “Say you don’t” (#82), “Rising up” (#83) and “High wire” (#84) all by Matt Gresham, “Traveler” (#95) by Shaun and “Prost Hawaii” (#97, “Cheers Hawaii”) by Steiner & Madlaina.

Week 437 – July 13^th , 2019

German singer Jeanette Biedermann is still riding on the wave of success. Her song “Deine Geschichten” (#1) is now scoring its 4th week at the top. Avril Lavigne on the other side is trying everything to get to the top again, but “I fell in love with the devil” (#2) is stuck at the runner’s up spot. Up two spots and for the first time at the podium is “If I can’t have you” (#3) by Shawn Mendes. Could this be his 2nd #1 following “There’s nothing holdin’ me back” which topped the chart back in 2017? I’m not sure, but there is a little chance. Holding its spot is “It’s a new day” (#4) by Anouk. Former #1 “Undrunk” (#5) swapped the spot with “If I can’t have you” and so Fletcher had to accept a two spot drop.

One spot behind the Top 5 is German rap by Juju feat. Henning May. Their song “Vermissen” (#6, “Miss”) climbed up one spot. Climbing up three spots is “Too much” (#7) by Carly Rae Jepsen. This is definitely interesting, because in Austria she had only three charting hits and the last time she was near the Top 10 had been back in 2015 with “I really like you”. “Too much” can’t be expected to enter the charts in Austria, but here it could reach the Top 5. Katy Perry is celebrating a comeback within the Top 10. This week she returned with “Never really over” (#8). Before that she had only been in the Top 10 with “Part of me” (peaked at #10 back in 2012) and “Unconditionally” (peaked at #4 back in January 2014). For the 2nd time in their career German band Fettes Brot reached the Top 10. This time it is “Denxu” (#9, “Do ya think”). Down four spots is country pop “Blue suede couch” (#10) by Lacy Cavalier.

Mark Ronson’s new single “Find U again” (#41) with Camila Cabello climbed up 13 spots and is this week’s greatest gainer. Looking for this week’s debuts you’ve to dig deep. The highest debut is “Taking me back” (#75) by LANY which is followed by another LANY with “Let me know” (#76). Other debuts are “Dance with you” (#91) by iamsimon feat. Next to Neon, “Wicked game” (#92) by Grace Carter, “Vienna” (#93) by Declan J Donovan, “Heart won’t break” (#94) by Delta Rae and “All we have” (#96) by Rachel Reinert.
