Week 421 – March 23^rd, 2019

As predicted last week LANY took over. My song of the week is their single “Thick and thin” (#1). They are followed by themselves with “If you see her” (#2). Last week’s #1 “Under water” (#3) by Austrian singer Avec dropped two spots and is now only completing my podium. Also down one spot is Mabel’s club banger “Don’t call me up” (#4). Next in line is another former #1. It is “Tell me it’s over” (#5) by Avril Lavigne.

For the first time out of my Top 5 since January is former #1 “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#6) by Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus. Lena dropped two spots with “Thank you” (#7), but she delivered with her new single. Then there is “Trouble” (#8) by Parov Stelar feat. Nikki Williams which is the only song in my Top 10 holding its spot. The next two songs are newbies. First let’s welcome LÉON back. She returns with her new single “You and I” (#9) from her self titled debut album. For the first time in my Top 10 is US singer Tyler Hilton. His team up with core artist Kate Voegele helped “When the night moves” (#10) climbing up 10 spots and reaching the Top 10.

So let’s see which song is this week’s greatest gainer. It is a song which is more than 50 years old. Australian singer Indiana Massara released a cover of the Tommy James and The Shondells song “I think we’re alone now” (#32). The original song went all the way to #4 in the USA in the 1960s. In the 1980s the song reached #1 in the USA in a version sung by Tiffany who recently had a hit with a feature on the New Kids On The Block song “80s baby”. And now this song climbed up 22 spots which is very strong. I hope that this cover will reach my Top 20 at least.

The greatest gainer of the week is followed by the highest debut of the week. It is the new single by German star Lena who is releasing her 5th album in a few weeks. The first single out of the album “Only love, L” had reached my Top 5. Now the 2nd single “Don’t lie to me” (#33) got a good start. At the moment Lena is following the tropical trend, but on this song I really like it. On the other hand this song isn’t anywhere near her only #1 hit “Traffic lights” back in 2015. In “Don’t lie to me” she is singing about the break up with her long-time boyfriend. This song is the only debut within my Top 50.

Week 422 – March 30^th , 2019

This week’s Top 10 is a little bit predictable. Most of the songs didn’t move this week. So for the 2nd week LANY is leading my chart with two songs. Still in the leading position is “Thick and thin” (#1) while “If you see her” (#2) is once more in the runner’s up position. Also holding its spot is former #1 “Under water (club edit)” (#3) by Austrian singer AVEC. British-Swedish singer Mabel hasn’t lost her spirit with the hit “Don’t call me up” (#4) although there isn’t a sign which is bringing this song back into my Top 3. And last but not least in my Top 5 you can find “Tell me it’s over” (#5) by Avril Lavinge.

The last song holding its spot is “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#6) by Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus. Climbing up two spots is “You and I” (#7) by LÉON. With this song she is outperforming her other Top 10 hit “Baby don’t talk”. Directly behind is the other two spot mover within my Top 10 “When the night moves” (#8) by Tyler Hilton feat. Kate Voegele. Now let’s welcome two new songs. One of these songs received mixed to negative reviews, but in Germany most of the reviews had been positive. “Dumb blonde” (#9) by Avril Lavinge feat. Nicki Minaj reached the Top 10 with a six spot climb. I personally like this song, but for the moment I doubt that this one will be next #1 for Avril Lavigne. The other new song in this part of my chart is “Now that I found you” (#10) by Carly Rae Jepsen. It is nice to see her again in my Top 10. Back in 2017 she hit #1 with “Cut to the feeling” and this had been the last time when she placed a song in the Top 10. “Now that I found you” is a very good song, but I’m not sure if this songs brings her the 2nd #1 on my chart.

The greatest gainer of the week is “Would you call that love” (#24) by Kelly Clarkson. Unfortunately this song has never been released as a regular single, but on my chart this song should do very well. Beside the greatest gainer of the week you can find 16 new songs on my chart. The highest debut is by newcomer Fletcher. Her single “Undrunk” (#53) failed to debut within the Top 50. It should be there by next week. The 2nd highest debut is by Emma. It is her album cut “Malelingue” (#56, “Gossip”). She also debuts with “Sorrido lo stesso” (#97, “I still smile”).

Week 423 – April 6^th , 2019

”Thru these tears” stayed four weeks at the top. “I don’t love you anymore” (#34) had been #1 for one week. And now “Thick and thin” (#1) scores its third week at the top. Things can’t go better for LANY at the moment. Three #1’s from their “Malibu nights” album and a fourth one is on its way. “If you see her again” (#2) is now for a third time in a row at the runner’s up spot and it is absolutely possible to see this one next week at #1. Still completing the podium is former #1 “Under water (club edit)” by AVEC. You can say that my chart’s Top 3 is a little bit boring, because it is still the same as last week and in the week before last week. Then I’ve to say that you’ve not seen the rest of my Top 10. Seven out of ten songs didn’t move this week. This brings me to the fact that “Don’t call me up” (#4) by Mabel and “Tell me it’s over” (#5) by Avril Lavigne are also non-moving this week.

Next in line is the first moving song in this week’s Top 10. Swedish singer LÉON recently released her full length self-titled debut album. This week she climbed up one spot with “You and I” (#6). If I’ve a little bit more time than this week I definitely give this album a chance. Hopefully I like this album. Up three spots is “Now that I found you” (#7) by Carly Rae Jepsen. This song is on its way into my Top 5 which could give Carly Rae Jepsen one of the biggest hits on my chart. Now two more non-movers are following. First “When the night moves” (#8) by Tyler Hilton & Kate Voegele failed to do the next step. Second Avril Lavigne’s “Dumb blonde” (#9) also struggles to perform as good as the previous singles by her. Last but not least “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#10) can be found within the Top 10, but this song dropped four spots and it should be replaced by next week.

Over the last weeks my chart got younger and younger. Only 26 songs are longer than nine week on my chart. Therefore more songs than usual are pushing to reach a spot within my Top 10. Up 11 spots is my cover song of the week “I think we’re alone now” (#11) by Indiana Massara. Her version of this classic youth song is definitely a choice for replacing “Nothing breaks like a heart” and maybe it marks the start of a long career. Also knocking heavily at the door to my Top 10 is the soul anthem “My love goes on” (#12) by James Morrison feat. Joss Stone. For both this one is their biggest chart hit to date. Absolutely worth reaching the Top 10 is “Baby please don’t stop” (#13) by Emma Bunton. Her comeback single definitely reminds me to her singles which she has released over a decade ago. You may think that these three songs are enough potential songs for my Top 10. Possibly you’re right, but there are some more which could reach Top 10 by next week. So you should’ve an eye on “For now” (#14) by Pink. “Damn” (#15) by LIVVIA, “Million dollar” (#18) by Anouk and “Don’t lie to me” (#20) by Lena.

Up 19 spots and awarded for the greatest gainer of the week is country song “The bones” (#65) by Maren Morris. Although I like her previous single “Girl” (#66) I think “The bones” will perform better. So let’s see how the eight debuts are doing. The highest one is the Spanish Remix version of “Lost in the middle of nowhere” (#45) which is debut for Country singer Kane Brown and singer Becky G. While Kane Brown is stepping out of his comfort zone, Becky G is doing what she does best. This song is the only debut within the Top 50. The 2nd best debut is “Walk me home” (#53) by Pink. Finally I started charting this song. I’m a little bit late, because I’m still charting songs from her “Beautiful trauma” album. Over the next weeks two more songs from this album should give their debuts before I will start charting her new songs expect the songs will be released as regular singles.

Other debuts are “Home” (#75) by Leslie Clio, “Is this love” (#84) by Komodo feat. Michael Shynes, “Le nostre anime di notte” (#92, “Our souls at night”) by Anna Tatangelo, “Ohne Fallschirm” (#94, “Without parachute”) by Ambre Vallet, “Everyday people” (#97) by Max Mutzke feat. After three weeks I’ve to say goodbye to “Thick and thin” (#2) which dropped one spot. New leading song is “If you see her again” (#1). This brings LANY into the rare circle of artists which are replacing themselves at #1. Still at three is Austrian singer Avec with the club edit of her hit “Under water” (#3). Up into the Top 5 is Carly Rae Jepsen with “Now that I found you” (#4). Directly behind and closing this week’s Top 5 is “Don’t call me up” (#5) by Mabel.

Slipping out of the Top 5 is “Tell me it’s over” (#6) by Avril Lavigne. This former #1 dropped one spot. Avril Lavigne is followed by newcomer Indiana Massara. Her cover “I think we’re alone now” (#11) climbed up four spots and is now her first Top 10 hit. Week 425 – April 20^th , 2019

LANY’s “If you see her” (#1) is shining bright from the top for a 2nd week in a row. As their song “Thick and thin” (#2) is also holding its spot it makes two weeks for a double lead. For the first time since reaching #1 Carly Rae Jepsen is on the podium. Her song “Now that I found you” (#3) climbed up one spot. It changed its spot with former #1 “Under water” (#4) by AVEC. The cover version “I think we’re alone now” (#5) by Indiana Massara reached the Top 5 after a climb of two spots.

Next in line is former #1 “Tell me it’s over” (#6) by Avril Lavigne. This song is in its 18th week on chart an there is still no sign dropping out of the Top 10. Dropping two spots is the first chart hit “Don’t call me up” (#7) by Mabel. Swapping spots are Avril Lavigne’s “Dumb blonde” (#8) and Tayler Hilton & Kate Voegele’s “When the night moves” (#9). For the first time within my Top 10 is “Baby please don’t stop” (#10) by Emma Bunton.

As I had been sick this week there are only three minor debuts. Avril Lavinge debuts with two songs from her album “Head above water”. “I feel in love with the devil” is in at #82 and “Birdie” at #83. The only other debut is by Luke Sital-Singh with “Los Angels” (#98). What I’ve heard from his new album “A golden state” until today doesn’t make feel excited. I hope it will change when I give this album a try, but for now I doubt that this album will do as well as his previous albums.

Week 426 – April 27^th , 2019

Week 426 is once more a week with only a handful of debuts and a slow moving Top 10. Still at the top are LANY with two of their songs from the “Malibu nights”-album. For a third week at the top is “If you see her” (#1) which is followed by “Thick and thin” (#2). Also non-moving is “Now that I found you” (#3) by Carly Rae Jepsen. As both songs by LANY have now topped my chart for three weeks there is a little chance for Carly Rae Jepsen to grab her 2nd #1. For the moment I’m not sure if this will gonna happen. Up one spot is Indiana Massara with her cover “I think we’re alone now” (#4). This song swapped its spot with “Under water (club edit)” (#5) by AVEC.

Still near the Top 5 is former #1 “Tell me it’s over” (#6) by Avril Lavigne. Slowly climbing up is her other Top 10 smash “Dumb blonde” (#7) which is now heavily knocking at the door to the Top 10. Next in line is the duet between Tyler Hilton and Kate Voegele. After a one spot drop last week their song “When the night moves” (#8) climbed up one spot this week. At #9 you can find the only new song in the Top 10. Lena returns with her newbie “Don’t lie to me”. Rounding out the Top 10 is Emma Bunton with her retro single “Baby please don’t stop” (#10).

As I pointed out above there are only a handful debuts on my chart in this week’s edition. Mostly because the new songs I gave a listen didn’t meet my expectations. So I decided to only debut the last songs from Luke Sital-Singh’s “Time is a riddle”-album. He debuts with the title track “Time is a riddle” (#80), “Innocence” (#85) and “Slow down” (#86).

Luke’s debuts are from his older album „Time is a riddle“. These are the last ones I’m charting from this album, because all the others I‘ve charted before. His new album is „A golden state“. As I pointed out two weeks ago I’ve not listened to every song of this album, but so far I’m a little bit disappointed. His previous singles aren’t as good as his older songs and I’m not sure if I should by this new album. So don’t expect him to chart very often in the near future with songs from „A golden state“.

By the way I also haven’t listened to the new song by LANY, but this song is definitely on my preview list.

Week 427 – May 4^th , 2019

On the one hand there is my non-moving Top 5. On the other hand I’ve to celebrate 19 debuts, but first things first. Since seven weeks US band LANY is topping my chart. Now “If you see her” (#1) is in its 4th week at the top. To be honest I don’t see an end coming in the next few weeks. Their former #1 “Thick and thin” (#2) is holding the runner’s up spot and still at the podium is “Now that I found you” (#3) by Carly Rae Jepsen. Next in line is newcomer Indiana Massara. Her cover “I think we’re alone now” (#4) is still doing pretty well. Actually she has two more single out there, but her collaboration “Over it” with Annie LeBlanc and Aliyah Moulden won’t debut on my chart as her solo single “Run you down”. This is rather disappointing, but I hope she will release song in the future which is worth charting. The last non-moving song in this part of my chart is “Under water” (#5) by AVEC.

Up three spots is German singer Lena with “Don’t lie to me” (#6). Unfortunately her third single “Sex in the morning” from her upcoming new album failed to enter my chart and I doubt it will do better in the next weeks. One spot down is “Tell me it’s over” (#7) by Avril Lavigne. While this song is still in my Top 10 “Dumb blonde” (#11) dropped out. This song was replaced by “Undrunk” (#8) which is Fletcher’s first Top 10 hit. Up and down describes the chart performance by Tayler Hilton & Kate Voegele’s “When the night moves” (#9) best. This week this song dropped one spot. The Top 10 is rounded out by “Baby please don’t stop” (#10) by Emma Bunton.

As I wrote above this week’s chart sees 19 debuts. Among this debuts there are big names as Taylor Swift, Anouk, Carrie Underwood, LANY or Ellie Goulding. None of these artists managed to debut within my Top 50 with their new singles. It had been country singer Lacy Cavalier who impressed me more with her newbie (but not with her video). She debuts with her new single “Blue suede couch” (#42) within the Top 50 and with a very great outlook. This song is ready to take over my country chart in a few weeks and maybe it will last as long as some others did in the past.
The 2nd best debut is by Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie. Their song “ME!” (#64) got a solid start, but Taylor Swift had done better in the past. For Brendon Urie this song is his solo debut on my chart. With his band Panic! At The Disco he had been on my chart once with “The ballad of Mona Lisa” back in 2011. This song is followed by the next single by Anouk. She recently dropped “It’s a new day” (#65) which makes now two official singles without an album. I believe that her new album will be released in a few months from now. Then there is LANY’s new single “Okay” (#66) with a Julia Michaels feature. I like this song and maybe it is doing as well as some of their other songs. As you see these are back to back debuts and there is still no end in sight. Next debut is by Ellie Goulding. Her song “Sixteen” (#67) is in my eyes her best song since a very long time. She is followed by country star Carrie Underwood who returns with “Southbound” (#68). Then there is the comeback by Pia Mia with “Bitter sweet” (#69). “Bitter love” is her first chart hit since her 2016 smash “Touch”.

Other debuts are “J’ai su” (#70, “I knew”) by Anaïs Delva, “Feelings” (#79) by Lennon Stella, “Shania Twain” (#81) by Aura Dione, “Drink too much wine” (#82) by Sophia Scott, “Julien” (#89) by Carly Rae Jepsen, “Changes” (#90) by Mike Perry & Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman & Ten Times feat. The Companions, “If you met me first” (#92) by Eric Ethridge, “85 %” (#93) by Loote feat. Gnash, “The answer” (#96) by True Tides, “La respuesta” (#97, “The answer”) by Becky G & Maluma, “Now that you’re gone” (#98) by The Raconteurs and “Redemption day” (#99) by Sheryl Crow & Johnny Cash.
