Week 408 – December 22^nd, 2018

Hello folks! Welcome to the last edition in 2018 which counts for the year-end review of 2018. Last week it had been a very tough decision between LANY and Clara Mae. LANY’s “I don’t love you anymore” (#2) dropped one spot and made the way free for “Sorry about writing all the songs about you” (#1) by Clara Mae. The theme is similar, but the story is different. I definitely love both songs and so I’m not sorry for pushing Clara Mae into the leading position. These songs are followed by the former #1’s “Head above water” (#3) by Avril Lavigne and “Le parole non mentono” (#4, “Words don’t lie”). For the first time in my Top 5 is P!nk with “Where do we go” (#5).

The 2nd part of my Top 10 is led by Shakira with her beautiful Spanish song “Nada” (#6, “Nothing”). It is the first time a song in Spanish reached my Top 10. So it’s nice gone for Shakira. Up two spots is “Baby don’t talk” by LÉON. This is another song which is absolutely worth listening. While “Mondiale” (#9, “World”) by Emma climbed up one spot “Let you love me” (#8) by Rita Ora is on its way out of my Top 10 after dropping four spots this week. Also on its way out is “Lay with me” (#10) by Phantoms feat. Vanessa Hudgens.

Three weeks in is “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#12) by Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus. This country pop/disco song is climbing up very fast, but just missed my Top 10. By next week this song should reach it. Last week I speculated about a Top 10 debut. In the end the song I talked about only debuted in my Top 20. It is the 2nd single “Tell me it’s over” (#13) by Avril Lavigne from her first album during the last five years. This song is nothing I expected to hear from her. Is she now changing her musical style? Finally? Her last self-titled album flopped dramatically so she had do something unexpected and I believe that “Tell me it’s over” could be such a momentum change if she is continuing this way on her album. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

The Top 50 sees two more debuts beside Avril Lavigne’s “Tell me it’s over”. The higher one is “The less I know” (#41) by German DJ Topic. He had been on my chart before with “Perfect” where Ally Brooks had been featured. Leading vocals on “The less I know” are by Swedish singer Alexander Tidebrink who hadn’t been on my chart before. It’s a decent song and I expect some very good weeks on my chart. Directly behind you can find the latest single by Austrian DJ Parov Stelar. Although he is well known in the scene he’s not represented very well on my chart. Lately he had a smaller hit with the remix of “Zu Asche, zu Staub” (“To ashes, to dust”) from the soundtrack to the TV series “Babylon Berlin”. Now he debuts with his new one “Trouble” (#42). Leading singer is Nikki Williams. She only reached my chart once back in 2012 with “Kill f*ck marry” which had been her debut single. “Trouble” is her first single in five years and is now her and Parov Stelar’s best charting song.

Other debuts are “Portami via da te” (#70, “Take me away from you”) and “Luna e l'altra” (#71, “Moon and the other”) by Emma, “Ruin my life” (#77) by Zara Larsson, “2x” (#82) by Mathea, “Right where you want me” (#92) by Sarah Reeves, “Always” (#94) by Gavin James and “Everything is nothing” (#95) by Picture This.

Week 409 – December 29^th, 2018

2018 is ending with the same #1 as last week. “Sorry for writing all the songs about you” (#1) by Clara Mae defended its title. I’m really sorry for this song that it didn’t reach my year-end Top 100, but rules are rules. I’m sure that this song will be one of my top hits in 2019. Indie pop band LANY still can be found at #2 with their recent smash “I don’t wanna love you anymore”. These two songs got new concurrence. “Nada” (#3, “Nothing”) by Shakira sprinted up three spots. It is Shakira’s first Top 3 hit, but before 2011 she already had hits as “Whenever wherever” or “Hips don’t lie” to name only a few of her pre-chart hits. “Nada” is the highest charting Spanish song and the first one with a real chance to go all the way to the top. This song is also the only song which didn’t reach #1 in my Top 10 so far. “Nada” is followed by “Head above water” (#4) by Avril Lavigne. I’m really excited for her new album. I hope it will be as good as the first two singles out of it. Next in line is “Le parole non mentono” (#5, “Words don’t lie”) by Annalisa.

On its way to outperform “Le parole non mentono” is another song in Italian. “Mondiale” (#6) is a beautiful song by my core artist Emma. I like this song although it is a little bit too martial because it describes love as “war” or “world war”. Behind this song there are two new songs in this part of my chart. First to mention is country disco/pop “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#7) by Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus. This one is followed by “Tell me it’s over” (#8) by Avril Lavigne. With this edition Avril Lavigne has two songs in my Top 10 at once. Down four spots is “Where we go” (#9) by Pink. Rounding out my Top 10 is “Baby don’t talk” (#10) by LÉON.

This week I’ve two songs which got the greatest gainer of the week award. Both songs debuted last week. The first one is “The less I know” (#24) by Topic feat. Alexander Tidebrink. The other one is “Trouble” (#25) by Parov Stelar feat. Nikki Williams. While I liked “The less I know” with the first listen “Trouble” took awhile, but now this song is sprinting up my chart. This week only sees a handful debuts in the backyard of my chart. The highest debuts are album cuts by Luke Sital-Singh. He debuts with “Nowhere’s home” (#89) and “Cynic” (#90). Other debuts are “Who cares” (#93) by Paul McCartney, “Into you” (#96) by YURI from Girls’ Generation, “Solo” (#98) by Jennie from Blackpink and “Slower” (#99) by Austin Burke.

Week 410 – January 5^th, 2019

Christmas holidays are nearly over and it’s time to review the first edition of 2019. Clara Mae dominated the last two weeks in 2018 and did it this week to. “Sorry for writing all the songs about you” (#1) is defending its title while “Nada” (#2, “Nothing”) reached the first time the runner’s up spot. This climb leads to the chance that Shakira could take over next week. She switched the spot with LANY’s former #1 “I don’t love you anymore” (#3). Two songs are debuting in the Top 5. Avril Lavigne recently reached #1 with “Head above water” (#8). Now she returned in the Top 5 with her recent single “Tell me it’s over” (#4). She is followed by Emma who climbed up one spot with “Mondiale” (#5, “World”).

Just missing the Top 5 is country disco/pop by Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus. “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#7) climbed up one spot and should reach the Top 5 as soon as possible. Maybe by next week “Nothing breaks like a heart” is changing with “I don’t love you anymore”. “Head above water” (#8) by Avril Lavigne dropped three spots and is on its way out of my Top 10 which also is “Le parole non mentono” (#9, “Words don’t lie”) by Annalsia. And I should not forget that “Where we go” (#10) by Pink also dropped one spot and it seems that it could be its last week in my Top 10. The only new song within my Top 10 is “Thank you” (#9) by Lena. This critical song about envy and disfavour is climbing up the chart very fast and could be one of the hits in 2019.

The greatest gainer is a K-pop song. It is “Solo” (#71) by Jennie who is part of Blackpink. It is a nice song and at the moment I’m sure that this song will reach my Top 50 at least. Generally this week sees 17 new entries. The highest one is by Lennon Stella who is known for her role as Maddie Conrad in the TV series “Nashville”. She had several smaller hits out of this series and now she released her first EP “Love, me”. I charted “Breakaway” (#88) which dropped out this week. This week her song “Bad” (#55) – had been released as a single before “Breakaway” – got its debut. As I like this EP I’m sure that this song will do well on my chart. “Bad” isn’t the only song by Lennon Stella which debuts this week. Her other song is “Your best” (#91) with Maisy Stella. It is a song from the 5th season of “Nashville” I’m actually watching. So there will be more songs from this 5th season in the future on my chart. The other song out of this series which is debuting this week is “All of me” (#88) by Clare Bowen & Sam Palladio

Week 411 – January 12^th, 2019

Clara Mae still celebrates her #1 status with “Sorry for writing all the songs about you” (#1). I’m still not sorry about listening to this non-single. Shakira is sticking at the runner’s up spot with “Nada” (#2, “Nothing) for a 2nd week in a row. Maybe next week she could take over, but there are some more candidates for a #1 spot. One is “Tell me it’s over” (#3) by Avril Lavigne which climbed up one spot. It could be her third #1 while “Nada” could be Shakira’s first. Directly behind you can find “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#4) by Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus. For Mark Ronson it is his first Top 10 smash with his first charting appearance. Miley Cyrus already had one hit with “Wrecking ball”. This song peaked at #11 back in January 2014. Five years is a long time, but with “Nothing breaks like a heart” she proves that “Wrecking ball” is no one-hit wonder. Italian star Emma is holding the spot with “Mondiale” (#5, “World”).

Out of my Top 3 and down three spots is former #1 “I don’t love you anymore” (#6) by US indie pop band LANY. I recently bought their album “Malibu nights”. This will give them some more chart entries in the future. Changing spots are “Thank you” (#7) by Lena and “Head above water” (#8) by Avril Lavigne. These songs are followed by two new songs within my Top 10. It is no surprise that these songs did this last step. First to mention is “The less I know” (#9) by German DJ Topic. The vocals are by Swedish singer Alexander Tidebrink. For both it is their first Top 10 hit. Also for the first time in my Top 10 are Austrian DJ Parov Stelar and South African singer Nikki Williams. They reached this part of my chart with their single “Trouble” (#10).

Once more the greatest gainer of the week is “Solo” (#48) by South Korean singer Jennie. This week she shares the title with South Korean singer Jennie who also climbed up 23 spots with “Into you” (#47). This brings me to my new entries. This week’s edition sees 18 new songs. You can find a wide range of new songs, but you can devide these new entries in songs in English language and non-English language. Let’s have a closer look at the songs in English language. These are only seven songs. The highest one is an old one too. In December 2017 “So far away” (#73) by Martin Garrix & David Guetta feat. Jamie Scott & Romy Dya got its chart debut in Austria. Somehow I managed to oversee this song. Last week this song was featured prominently in a German TV series and I liked this song as much as this song got its debut this. You definitely can compare it with the late chart debut by Harry Styles’ “Sign of times” which got its chart debut late last year. The 2nd best debut song in English language is by Steps singer Claire Richards. She actually released her solo single “Shame on you” (#79). Other songs in English which got their debut are “Why her not me” (#81) by Grace Carter, “Excuses” (#86) by Olly Murs, “Best I’ll ever sing” (#88) by Maisie Peters, “Selfish heart” (#89) by HYLLS and “Favourite thing” (#99) by Fleur East.

You can divide the non-English language songs into German songs, Italian songs, K-Pop songs and Serbian songs. Let’s start with the songs in German. The highest debut is by the Switzerland duo Steiner & Madlaina. I’ve not heard about them before, but this week I discovered their single “Das schöne Leben” (#65, “The beautiful life”). I checked their other singles out, but none of these songs are as good as “Das schöne Leben”. I’m sure that this song will sprint up my chart next week. The 2nd highest German debut is by Alexa Feser. I know her since years, but “Gold reden” (#93, “Talk gold”) is her chart debut. Her actual single “Mut” (“Courage”) should debut soon. The next one is “Ein kurzes für immer” (#94, “A short forever”) by Tiemo Hauer. And last but not least Grossstadtgeflüster got the bands debut with “Feierabend” (#95, “End of work day”).

Italy is represented by Annalisa. She debuts with her single “Un domani” (#71, “Tomorrow”). On this track she is featuring Mr. Rain. “Un domani” isn’t her only debut this week. She also debuts with the album cut “Illuminami” (#72, “Enlighten me”). Then I came to the K-Pop songs. At the moment I’m charting more songs out of this genre than in the years before. This week Shaun leaves the chart with “Way back home”. On the other hand he returns with his new single “Bad habits” (#84). I like this song and the other songs on his EP “An-neyong” (“Hi”). Maybe I’m buying this K-Pop EP which could be my first EP out of this genre I’m buying. The other K-Pop song which debuts is “Gotta go” (#85) by Chung Ha. She had been a member of the disbanded band I.O.I (active 2016/17). I charted them once with “Whatta man” (peak 30) back in 2016. Chung ha has released several singles since 2017 and she had more success than with I.O.I. “Gotta go” is her chart debut.

So let’s see how the first songs in Serbian do on my chart. Lately I heard some songs in Serbian when I started teaching a class (some of the students have a Serbian background). I decided to give such songs a chance and now three of the latest releases got their debut. The highest debut is “Ne sećam se” (#96, “I don’t remember”) by Milica Pavlović. She is a Swiss-born Serbian singer who recently released her 3rd album. For every song on this album she released a video and I decided to chart “Ne sećam se”. The 2nd highest Serbian debut is “Mala plava” (#97, “Little blue”) by Nataša Bekvalac & Coby. The last but not least one is “Prsten” (#98, “Ring”) by Emina Jahović & Corona & Rimski.

Week 412 – January 19^th, 2019

This week Clara Mae’s “Sorry for writing all the songs about you” (#2) dropped one spot. So it is clear that I’ve a new #1. It is “Nada” (#1) by Shakira. This song is also the first #1 in Spanish I’ve. Still at #3 is “Tell me it’s over” by Avril Lavigne. It’s only a matter of time when this song takes over. Or will it be “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#4) by Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus? Both songs have a realistic chance and at the moment I’m not sure which one I will choose. Next in line is another non-mover. “Mondiale” (#5, “World”) by Emma is now in its 11th week on chart, but her I’m seeing the end of its Top 10 run coming soon.

Up one spot is “Thank you” (#6) by German star Lena. Over the years she had several hits and “Traffic lights” is her signature song for me. “Thank you” could reach my Top 5 by next week, but the #1 spot isn’t as realistic as for other songs. For Austrian DJ Parov Stelar and singer Nikki Williams 2019 on my chart couldn’t start better. This week they climbed up three spots with “Trouble” (#7). Also up one spot is “The less I know” (#8) by Topic feat. Alexander Tidebrink. On their way out of my Top 10 are “I don’t wanna love you anymore” (#9) by LANY and “Head above water” (#10) by Avril Lavigne.

As predicted last week Swiss duo Steiner & Madlaina are sprinting up the chart with their song “Das schöne Leben” (#31, “The beautiful life”). This week they climbed up 34 spots. It’s nice gone for them. This week’s highest debut is a cover of the classic “Genie in a bottle” by Christina Aguilera. Since years Scott Bradlee is releasing cover songs with different musicians. Three months ago he released the cover of this song with singer Brielle von Hugel. Their 60’s style cover debuts at #72. It isn’t they only cover song by Scott Bradlee which found its way into my chart. The other one is “Feel it still” (#91). The original song by Portugal. The Man never found its way into my chart, but I really like this version of this song which is another 60’s style cover. The vocals are by Joey Cook, Adanna Duru and Nina Ann Nielson. Other debuts are “Even so” (#85) by Luna, “Punk right now” (#86) by Hyo & 3Lau, “You come first” (#87) by Zak Abel feat. Week 413 – January 26^th, 2019

In a last minute decision Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus reached #1 with their song “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#1). The climbed up three spots and outperformed “Tell me it’s over” (#2) by Avril Lavigne. I really can’t wait for her new album which is gonna be released in February. I hope that this album is as good as the first two singles. Down two spots is last week’s #1 “Nada” (#3, “Nothing”) by Shakira. New in my Top 5 is “Thank you” (#4) by Lena. Rounding out this week’s Top 5 is former #1 “Sorry for writing all the songs about you” (#5) by Clara Mae.

Up one spot are “Trouble” (#6) by Parov Stelar feat. Nikki Williams and “The less I know” (#7) by Topic feat. Alexander Tidebrink. Both songs have a chance to enter my Top 5, but I’m not sure if Clara Mae is giving up without a fight. Next in line is “Mondiale” (#8) by Emma. This song is the biggest dropper within my Top 10 and joins the candidates which are “ready” for leaving my Top 10. The other songs are “I don’t love you anymore” (#9) by LANY and “Head above water” (#10) by Avril Lavigne.

Over the last weeks several K-pop songs got the award for the greatest gainer of the week. This week is no exception. South Korean singer Chung Ha climbed up 19 spots with her recent single “Gotta go” (#52). In general K-pop songs are celebrating a comeback after these songs disappointed me over the last two years. So let’s see how the debuts have done this week. In total 13 songs got their debut. The highest debut is by Alec Benjamin. He has released his single “Let me down slowly" back” in 2018. This month he released the duet version with Alessia Cara. This week this duet version got its debut at #57. Week 414 – February 2^nd, 2019

Let’s face it! Hands in the air who baited that Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus will defend the #1 spot. They did and so “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#1) is still shining from my top spot. While this song is shining bright Avril Lavigne’s “Tell me it’s over” (#2) is still at the runner’s up spots. I still see this song as a possible #1 hit, but that “Nothing breaks like a heart” is my #1 for a 2nd week is unexpected. Up one spot is “Thank you” (#3) by Lena. This song about bullying has a strong message and is definitely one of her best songs. “Thank you” changed the spot with Shakira’s “Nada” (#4, “Nothing”). New in my Top 5 is “Trouble” (#5) by Parov Stelar feat. Nikki Williams.

One spot behind my Top 5 is “The less I know” (#6) by Topic feat. Alexander Tidebrink. This song will only be in this part of my chart when “Nada” drops out as former #1 “Sorry for writing all the songs about you” (#7) by Clara Mae did this week. The rest of my Top 10 is holding their spots. So “Mondiale” (“World”) by Emma is still at #8, “I don’t wanna love you anymore” by LANY is still at #9 and still rounding out my Top 10 is “Head above water” (#10) by Avril Lavigne.

My favourite Austrian band Tagtraeumer is clutching this week’s award for the greatest gainer of the week with “Metronom” (#23, “Metronome”). This song climbed up 19 spots. Not far behind the highest debut out of 15 new songs can be found. It is a song by Swedish singer Mabel. She is entering my chart with “Don’t call me up” (#31) which is her first chart appearance. I really like the vibe and so this song should end at least in my Top 20. Directly behind Austrian singer Miriam Hufnagl debuts under her stage name AVEC. Some months ago she released “Under water” (#32) as a regular single from her 2nd album “Heaven/Hell”. At the moment this song in the club edition is climbing up the Austrian airplay charts and now it got its debut. Definitely a song which you should give a listen and I hope to find this beautiful song on one or the other personal chart. But there are two more songs debuting within my Top 50. The first one is “Dancing with a stranger” (#49) by Sam Smith & Normani. The other one is “Don’t feel like crying” (#50) by Sigrid.

Week 415 – February 9^th, 2019

It lasted a while, but with this week Avril Lavigne scored her 3rd #1 with “Tell me it’s over” (#1). This is a good sign for her new album which should be released by next week. “Tell me it’s over” changed spot with former #1 “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#2) by Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus. Holding its spot is “Thank you” (#3) by German singer Lena. Next in line is Austrian DJ Parov Stelar. His song “Trouble” (#4) with vocals by Nikki Williams climbed up one spot. Down one spot is “Nada” (#5, “Nothing”) by Shakira.

The 2nd half of my Top 10 is still lead by “The less I know” (#6) by Topic feat. Alexander Tidebrink and “Sorry for writing all the songs about you” (#7) by Clara Mae. These two songs are followed by two new songs in my Top 10. First let’s welcome Swiss Duo Steiner & Madlaina. Their song “Das schöne Leben” (#8, “The beautiful life”) climbed up three spots. Also up three spots is the next song by a newcomer. Austrian singer Mathea reached the Top 10 with her debut single “2x” (#9). Rounding out the Top 10 is Emma with “Mondiale” (#10, “World”).

The greatest gainer of the week are “Gotta go” (#30) by Chung Ha and “Un domani” (“#31, “Tomorrow”) by Annalisa feat. Mr. Rain. So let’s see how the debuts are doing this week. They aren’t doing as good as last week. The highest debut is by Busted with the 3rd single “Radio” (#70) of their comeback album. It is a nice song, but it failed clearly to reach my Top 50. Week 416 – February 16^th, 2019

This week Avril Lavigne released her new album “Head above water”. So far it received mixed reviews which I absolutely understand. For me she really hasn’t found her new path although the previous singles I’ve charted so far and some songs on the album are rather good. However, as “The Guardian” pointed out her own remarkable style is missing. Nevertheless “Tell me it’s over” (#1) is still topping my chart. “Tell me it’s over” is the first of four songs in a row which are holding their spots. Still in the runner’s up position is former #1 “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#2) by Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus. At #3 you can find “Thank you” by Lena and at #4 “Trouble” by Parov Stelar feat. Nikki Williams. New in my Top 5 is “The less I know” (#5) by Topic feat. Alexander Tidebrink.

“The less I know” changed the spot with former #1 “Nada” (#6) by Shakira. The next two songs in line had their Top 10 debut last week. This week “Das schöne Leben” (#7, “The beautiful life”) by Steiner & Madlaina and “2x” (#8) by Mathea climbed up one spot. Down two spots is former #1 and beautiful “Sorry for writing all the songs about you” (#9) by Clara Mae. The Top 10 is rounded out by the only new song in this part of my chart. It is “Metronom” (#10, “Metronome”) by Austrian band Tagtraeumer.

In a rather calm week Italian singer Annalisa is awarded for the greatest gainer of the week with her song “Illuminami” (#39, “Enlighten me”). The highest debut is by Swedish singer Léon who recently had a Top 10 smash with “Baby don’t talk”. This time she returns with her new single “You and I” (#69). When you are looking over my chart you will recognize that the Top 5 didn’t change. Still shining bright from the top is “Tell me it’s over” (#1) by Avril Lavigne. One more week at the top and she could tie her record she previously reached with “Head above water” (#19). Avril Lavigne is followed by Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus with their big hit “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#2). The podium completing is Lena with her song “Thank you” against bullying. Just for a second I thought pushing “Trouble” (#4) by Parov Stelar feat. Niki Williams up one spot, but this song is also holding its spot. The last one of this non-moving part is “The less I know” (#5) by Topic feat. Alexander Tidebrink.

For the first time in my Top 10 with her first single from her 2nd album is Austrian singer Miriam Hufnagl. She is better known under her alias AVEC. In the club edition her song “Under water” (#6) is marking her breakthrough. Next in line is “Das schöne Leben” (#7, “The beautiful life”) by Swiss duo Steiner & Madlaina. This song is caught between two new songs in my Top 10. For British-Swedish singer Mabel “Don’t call me up” (#8) is also her first Top 10 hit with her first chart appearance. Up one spot is “Metronom” (#9, “Metronome”) by Tagtraeumer. On its way out is former #1 “Nada” (#10, “Nothing”) by Shakira.

Last week a song in Italian was awarded for the greatest gainer of the week. This week it is a song in Korean. It is “Bad habits” (#26) by Shaun which climbed up 12 spots. The highest debut just landed outside my Top 50. Just two weeks ago LANY released their new video to their single “Thick and thin” (#51). This song got its debut along with another song from their album “Malibu nights”. “If you see her” (#52) debuted one spot behind “Thick and thin”. The next debut is by Charlie Puth’s brother Stephen Puth. He debuts with the acoustic version of “Sexual vibe” (#61). Other debuts are “Back to the start” (#79) by Michael Schulte, “Temporary” (#81) by Ella Vos, “Bridges” (#93) by Johnnyswim, “P.D.A” (#94) by Valentina, “Too proud” (#96) by Broods and the a cover version of “I’m so tired…” (#97) by Recover..

Week 418 – March 2^nd, 2019

Since 2011 every year at least one song by an Austrian artist reached #1. In 2011 it all started with Any Major Dude and their song for the Eurovision Song Contest “July July” (#1 for 4 weeks). This had been the bands only #1 and some years ago the disbanded. In 2012 dialect rock band Krautschädl reached #1 for the first time with their hit “Khoids Wossa” (“Cold water”) and peaked for 4 weeks. 2013 saw two Austrian #1 hits. The 1st had been by Christina Stürmer with “Millionen Lichter” (“Millions of lights”; for 1 week) and the 2nd had been “I know you will wait for me” (for 3 weeks) by Rising Girl feat. DJ Lil Dirty. “I know you will wait for me” is a classic one-hit wonder for them. 2014 saw the first #1 by Tagtraeumer. They reached #1 with “Sinn” (“Sense; for 5 weeks) and “Mein Herz (für immer)” (“My heart (for always)”; for 1 week). The next year once more Tagtraeumer reached #1. This time they lead the chart with “Brücken zum Mond” (“Bridges to the moon”; for 2 weeks) and “Nichts” (“Nothing”; for 2 weeks). Between these songs Krautschädl scored their last #1 in 2015 with “Feiah fonga” (“Catching fire”; for 2 weeks). Krautschädl eventually disbanded late in 2018. In 2016 Christina Stürmer scored her 2nd #1 with “Seite an Seite” (“Side by side”; for 1 week). The next year Tagtraeumer again scored two #1 hits. This time it had been “Straßenlaternen” (“Street lights”; for 1 week) and “Pfeile” (“Arrows”; for 3 weeks). “Pfeile” later also reached #1 for a single week in 2018.

This brings me to 2019. It lasted 14 months before the next song by an Austrian artist reached #1 on my chart. For the first time Austrian singer AVEC reached #1. Her song had been released in a regular radio edit and in the club edit. I’m charting the club edit. “Under water” (#1) climbed up five spots to reach its first week at #1 in its 2nd week in my Top 10. Last week’s #1 “Tell me it’s over” (#2) by Avril Lavigne dropped one spot. Also down one spot are “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#3) by Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus and “Thank you” (#4) by Lena. Up three spots and into my Top 5 is Mabel’s recent single “Don’t call me up” (#5).

While two songs are new in my Top 5 two songs had to leave. These are “Trouble” (#6) by Parov Stelar feat. Nikki Williams and “The less I know” (#9) by Topic feat. Alexander Tidebrink. Holding its spot is “Das schöne Leben” (“The beautiful life”, #7) by Swiss duo Steiner & Madlaina. Up one spot is “Metronom” (“Metronome”, #8) by Tagtraeumer. The Top 10 is rounded out with the only new song in this part. Italian singer Annalisa is back in this part with her recent single “Un domani” (“Tomorrow”, #10). Italian rapper Mr. Rain is featured on this track.

Normally the award for the greatest gainer of the week goes to one or maybe two acts. This week three songs climbed up 20 spots. These are “Thick and thin” (#31) by LANY, “If you see her” (#32) also by LANY and “For now” (#57) by Pink. The highest debut is by Avril Lavigne’s controversial new single “Dumb blonde” (#43) with a feature by Nicki Minaj. I like this song but I also see why others aren’t really into this song. The 2nd highest debut can be found just outside the Top 50. It is “My love goes on” (#51) by James Morrison feat. Joss Stone. At first I was undecided whether I chart this song or not. I gave this song a 2nd chance and now it got its debut.

Other debuts are “Break up with your girlfriend, I’m bored” (#58) by Ariana Grande, “What a time” (#77) by Julia Michaels feat. Week 419 – March 9^th, 2019

Austrian singer Avec defended the top spot with “Under water” (#1). In general the Top 3 is the same as last week. So former #1 “Tell me it’s over” (#2) by Avril Lavigne is still in the runner’s up position while “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#3) by Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus is completing the podium. Swapping the spots are “Don’t call me up” (#4) by Mable and “Thank you” (#5) by Lena. For Mabel her first time in my Top 3 is arm’s reach.

Still near my Top 5 is former #4 “Trouble” (#6) by Parov Stelar feat. Nikki Williams. They are followed by my favourite Austrian band Tagtraeumer and their recent smash “Metronom” (#7, “Metronome”). Up two spots is “Un domani” (#8, “Tomorrow”) by Italian singer Annalisa and Mr. Rain. For Annalisa “Un domani” isn’t her only Top 10 hit this week. She finally reached the Top 10 with “Illuminami” (#10, “Enlighten me”) which climbed up 7 spots. Caught between these two songs by Annalisa is “Das schöne Leben” (#9, “The beautiful life”) by Steiner & Madlaina.

As every week after my Top 10 I’m awarding the greatest gainer of the week. This week the award goes to British singer Declan J Donovan. His song “Pieces” (#66) climbed up 18 spots in its 6th week on chart. So let’s see how the debuts have done this week. 16 songs got their debut and four of these songs reached my Top 50. The highest debut is the long awaited collaboration between Tyler Hilton and Kate Voegele. Their song “When the night moves” (#31) just missed the Top 30, but the outlook is great, because I like this song more and more with every listen. By the end of February Dutch singer Anouk dropped her latest single and her first English single “Million dollar” (#35) since the release of her first Dutch album last year. This one is definitely a good song, but I’m not really sure if this song has the potential for reaching #1. This means that I’m a little bit undecided right now, but we all will see where the journey of “Million dollar” is ending. The next debut in my Top 50 is by Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen. While her single “Party for one” was far behind my expectations her new one “Now that I found you” (#41) has written hit all over it. The debut outside the Top 40 is just a snapshot. I believe that “Now that I found you” will reach my Top 10 very fast. And last but not least let’s welcome Emma Bunton. “Baby please don’t stop” (#42) is her first single in over a decade. Sure this song is nothing spectacular, but I really love it! As “Now that I found you” this song has everything I really would like to see in my Top 10 and so “Baby please don’t stop” with it 60’s vibe should definitely end in my Top 10.

Week 420 – March 16^th, 2019

“Under Water” (#1) by AVEC is still at the top of my chart. This song is now three weeks at the top, but there is big concurrence by LANY. This US indie pop band recently topped my chart with “Thru these tears” and “I don’t wanna love you anymore” (#18). This week they returned with their singles “Thick and thin” (#6) and “If you see her” (#7). Everything is served for a takeover by them. For the moment I’m sure that by next week we see double lead by LANY. In the meanwhile “Tell me it’s over” (#2) by Avril Lavigne is in the runner’s up position while “Don’t call me up” (#3) by Mabel is completing this week’s podium. Just outside the Top 3 is “Nothing breaks like a heart” (#4) by Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus.

The only song beside my Top 2 holding its spot is the song “Thank you” (#5) about bullying by Lena. Maybe we will see her debuting with her new single “Don't lie to me” whose music video she dropped yesterday. Down two spots are “Trouble” (#8) by Parov Stelar feat. Nikki Williams and “Metronom” (#9) by Tagtraeumer. This week’s Top 10 is rounded out with “Un domani” (“Tomorrow”, #10) by Annalisa feat. Mr. Rain.

This week Kelly Clarson can celebrate the award for the greatest gainer of the week. Her album cuts “Would you call that love” (#52) and “Slow dance” (#53) climbed up 19 spots in their second week on chart. By next week these songs should reach my Top 50. Last week saw several new entries within my Top 50. This week there you can’t find such a debut. The highest one is by young Australian artist Indiana Massara. Last week she dropped her cover of the Tommy James and the Shondells 1960’s hit “I think we’re alone now” (#54). I really like her version of this song and maybe this one is a cover which is reaching my Top 10. This debut is followed by the new Ava Max single “So am I” (#55). A decent song, but I’ve the feeling that this particular song will lose its momentum very fast. So I’m not sure where the journey will end. The third new entry in a row is by Austrian singer Cesár Sampson. Last year he finished 3rd in the Eurovision song contest and now he returns with his R&B single “Stone cold” (#56).
