Week 300 – November 26^th, 2016

It is done. This is the 300th edition of my chart. Back in March 2011 (Wow it’s nearly six years!) I re-opened my chart with an Austrian #1. Any Major Dude had the first and only #1 with “July July” which peaked at #1 for four weeks. They had only one other chart appearance before they disbanded. 116 #1’s followed “July July”. The longest lasting #1 had been “Receive” by Alanis Morissette. “Receive” spent 10 weeks at the top in two runs back in 2012/13. Emma’s “L’amore non me basta” (“Love isn’t enough”) has the record with the longest strike at the #1 with 9 consecutive weeks. In comparison resent #1 “If I knew” by Anouk spent 8 weeks at the top. For her it had been the 12th #1 before “Not a lovesong” followed. So far only one live song topped my chart. And of course it is a song from Anouk. With this 300th edition 3476 songs got their debut on my chart. These songs are by 2122 different artists.

This short chart history leads us to this week’s edition. After a quicker last week’s edition this week is quite calm. Nearly every song within the Top 10 didn’t move. The only movers in this part of my chart are new additions to this part. Last week “Not a lovesong” (#1) took over and this week it got its 2nd week at the top. Still in the runner’s up position is “Not my baby” (#3). The hat trick completing is “If I knew” (#3). So since 9 weeks, and there is no end in sight, Anouk is topping my chart with three songs from her “Queen for a day” album. With this album she teaches the other artist the fear. What should I say? These aren’t the last songs from this beautiful album. Five songs from “Queen for a day” are still waiting for their debut. So hold on tight this domination could last even longer than you expected. One more song by Anouk is in the Top 5. “Wanna little something” (#5) is closing the Top 5. Still caught in middle is Selena Gomez. “Sober” (#4) is the best of the rest.

Since several weeks Nicole Cross is knocking at the door to the Top 5, but “Awesome” failed to do this final step. In my eyes this song has passed its zenith. Therefore “Awesome” won’t peak better than #6. Leslie Clio who dominated back in 2015 and in early 2016 is failing the break Anouk’s domination. This means that the wonderful “Remedy” (#7) won’t reach the Top 5, but hey there is a minimal chance for her to prove me wrong. The last non-mover in the Top 10 is Danish song “Tordenkys” (#8, “Thunder kiss”) by Maia. The first addition to this week’s Top 10 is Shinedown’s “How did you love” (#9). For this band it is their 1st Top 10 hit. The 2nd new one is “Nostalgic” (#10) by Kelly Clarkson. “Nostalgic” is her 16th Top 10 hit since I re-started charting.

The greatest gainer of the week is once again Coin with “Talk too much” (#16). I’m not known for speaking too much, but I absolutely love this song and its theme. And as I wrote last week I’m singing along very often this particular song. After sprinting up the chart in the last two weeks there is a big chance to find Coin in the Top 10 by next week. The highest debut is a cover song. In the middle of the 1990’s a band from the Netherlands called Total touch with leading singer Trijntje Oosterhuis released “Somebody else’s lover” which was a big hit there. Now Juliette Claire, a singer from the Netherlands, released an EDM cover of this hit. As I didn’t know the original song before I listened to it this week I’ve to point out that I really like this cover version and the original, but I prefer the Juliette Claire's cover.

The 2nd highest new entry is from the TV series “Nashville”. Finally I got the chance to see the 3rd season of this show via Amazon prime. I already thought that I couldn't watch the 3rd season this year, because it took so long before Amazon or Netflix released this show. By the way I’ve the 1st season on DVD and I watched the 2nd season on Netflix. Unfortunately there is no DVD release planed for these seasons in Germany and Austria, but back to the topic. The new entry from episode one in this 3rd season is Chris Carmack with “If it’s love” (#53). As in the past years other new songs from this show will follow in the next weeks.

Other debuts are “Empire” (#60) by 77 Bombay Street, “Libre” (#61, “Free”) by Álvaro Soler feat. Emma, “Stay with me” (#92) by Gotthard and “Es braucht Zeit” (#99, “It takes time”) by Marie Bothmer.

Week 301 – December 3^rd, 2016

With December the Christmas time already starts. Nearly everywhere they play Wham! with “Last Christmas” which is one of the songs I really don’t like. The first edition of my chart in December 2016 is opened with the same #1 as the last in November. It’s still all about Anouk. For a third week in a row “Not a lovesong” (#1) is topping in front of “Be my baby” (#2) and former #1 “If I knew” (#3). Believe it or not “Sober” (#4) is still in the Top 5 in its 15th week although this song never topped my chart because their isn’t enough Anouk at the moment. The Top 5 is rounded out with the fourth Anouk song in this part. “Wanna little something” (#5) is also holding its position as the others.

A little bit more action can be found in the 2nd half of my Top 10. One song dropped and the others profited. Four spots down is “Awesome” (#10) by German singer Nicole Cross. This lifted up “Remedy” (#6) by Leslie Clio. Once more I don’t see this song in the Top 5, but who knows maybe next week Anouk’s domination will end. Also up one spot are Danish song “Tordenkys” (#7, “Thunder kiss”) by Maia, the rock ballad “How did you love” (#8) by Shinedown and Kelly Clarkson’s album cut “Nostalgic” (#9).

Only three songs got their debut in this week’s edition. The highest is by a girl band from the Netherlands. TP4Y had already one little hit this year. This week they came back with their next single “Blush” (#61). The 2nd best new entry is from the TV series “Nashville”. Last week Chris Carmack debuted with “If it’s love” (#48) and this week he is charting a duet with Aubrey Peeples who already had some Top 10 hits out of the 2nd season of this show. This week their song “If your heart can handle it” (#84) debuted outside the Top 70. And the last but not least debut is “Wildfire” (#86) by Evelina Young.

Week 302 – December 10^th, 2016

The slow start into the December editions is followed by one with a fast forward button. Now I really believe that Anouk is dominating until the end of the year, but there are Leslie Clio and Kelly Clarkson who are blowing up into the Top 5. Anouk replaced herself at the top with “Be my baby” (#1). Last week’s chart topping hit “Not a lovesong” (#2) dropped one spot. The Anouk dripple is continued with “If I knew” (#3) at the podium. Now are following two new songs within the Top 5. You’re reading right. No 4th song by Anouk within the Top 5. This I call sensation after the last months. Leslie Clio’s “My remedy” (#4) climbed up two spots and Kelly Clarkson climbed up four spots with “Nostalgic” (#5).

But where is Selena Gomez who had an abonnement for #4? “Sober” (#6) dropped two spots and is now opening the 2nd half of my Top 10. Also down two spots in its 19th week within the Top 10 is “Wanna little something” (#7). So Anouk still has four songs within the Top 10. Next in line is Carly Rae Jepsen. “First time” (#8) isn’t her first time in the Top 10, but the first time in a while. The Top 10 is closed without girl power in this edition. For the first time (the 4th time I’m writing it in the last three sentences) US band Coin reached the Top 10. “Talk too much” (#9) has done very well over the last weeks and now the door is wide open. The Top 10 is rounded out with Shinedown’s “How did you love?” (#10).

The fast forward button is pushed this week with more than 20 new entries. The highest one is a little bit older. A year ago Nashville based singer/songwriter Shannon LaBrie released her single “Alcohol” (#23) from her album “War & piece”. The official video for this single has been released a half year ago. The Rolling Stone described in September “Alcohol” ”as a dark and stormy piano ballad about addiction, love, and the perilous way in which those two things sometimes intersect.” I love the first line of the song where she sings “There's lots of things he can't control. Like loving me, and alcohol” And now “Alcohol” found its way into my chart. Sure this song is out of the country scene, but for me “Alcohol” has the vibe of the early Lana Del Rey, especially “Video games” which hit #1 on my chart exactly five years ago. It will be interesting to see if this song could do as well as “Video games”.

Last week the girl band TP4Y debuted outside the Top 50. This week they are the greatest gainer of the week with “Blush” (#45). The greatest gainer is caught between the new entries, but the next series starts outside the Top 60 with a kind of a retro pop song. The band Fly By Midnight had released several covers so far. “Vinyl” (#63) is their debut single and leading a bunch of new entries in this edition. I like this pop song and the future outlook is good. The next new one is by Red Hot Chili Peppers. “Sick love” (#64) is the 3rd single out of their latest album “The Getaway”. While the first two singles failed to impress me “Sick love” is doing ways better and got a solid debut. By the way Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of a handful acts who debut this week and had at least one chart entry before.

Week 303 – December 17^th, 2016

One week to go for Xmas and one week to go for counting down to this year’s end chart. Is there a chance to see an end of Anouk’s run at the top in this week’s edition? The answer is still no. The chart is still led by “Be my baby” (#1) in its 2nd week at the top. But, yes there is a but, the rest of the Anouk songs in my Top 10 are crumbling away. “Not a lovesong” (#4) dropped two spots. Former dominator “If I knew” (#5) also dropped two spots. And last but not least “Wanna little something” (#9) is now at the bottom of my Top 10 in its 20th week in this part. It’s nice to see fresh new songs in the Top 3. First to mention is Kelly Clarkson. Her song “Nostalgic” (#2) is ready for reaching #1 which could be her 6th one. Behind is the greatest gainer within the Top 10. Indie act Coin sprinted into my Top 3 with a six spot climb with their fresh “Talk too much” (#3).

“Remedy” (#6) by Leslie Clio was only one week in the Top 5. This week “Remedy” dropped two spots. One down is “Sober” (#7) by Selena Gomez. The next one is the only debut in the Top 10. German act Glasperlenspiel are occupying such a spot for the first time in the bands history. Their song “Für immer” (#8, “For always”) climbed up three spots. The Top 10 is rounded out with “First time” (#10) by Carly Rae Jepsen.

Behind the Top 10 there are two or maybe three songs which have the chance to be in this part by next one. The first one is by well known Kate Voegele. Her summer anthem “Must be summertime” is still not forgotten and now “Wild & free” (#14) is reaching for a spot in the Top 10. Outside chances has Clean Bandit with their cooperation with Sean Paul and Anne-Marie. “Rockabye” (#17) is one of my favourite song by Clean Bandit, but I’m still not sure if this song is better than their charting debut “Rather be”. Back in 2014 “Rather be” also peaked at #17 and at the moment it seems that “Rockabye” will also not climb higher. The last one with a chance for reaching the Top 10 is last week’s highest debut. “Alcohol” (#18) by Shannon LaBrie climbed up five spots.

After 22 debuts in last week’s edition this one is a little bit calmer. There are only four debuts and two are no official singles. The highest two debuts are these album cuts from Adele’s album “25”. “Remedy” (#51) missed the Top 50 by one spot and “River Lea” debuted at #60. The highest single debut is an older one. It is Sara Evans with “Put my heart down” (#86). This song was promoted in the 3rd season of TV series “Nashville” which I’m already watching. Now this song found its way to my chart. And last but not least MiC Lowry debut with “Oh Lord” (#94).

Week 304 – December 24^th, 2016

Merry Christmas. I hope you’re enjoying the time with your family. In the meanwhile you can read some notes about this week’s edition of my chart. After incredible 13 weeks at the top Anouk has to leave the leading position (nearly a half year in total this year). Anouk’s songs can “only” be found from #3 to #5. New in the leading position is a well known artist. Kelly Clarkson is returning for the first time since February 2015 when she took the lead with “Heartbeat song”. “Nostalgic” climbed up one spot. New at the runner’s up position is US band Coin. Their signature song “Talk too much” (#2) also climbed up one spot. Last week’s #1 “Be my baby” (#3) dropped two spots and is still leading the Anouk songs in my Top 10. Next in line is “If I knew” (#4) which changed the spots with “Not a lovesong” (#5).

German band Glasperlenspiel are climbing to a new peak in this edition. Their song “Für immer” (#6, “For always”) is doing very well in its 2nd week in the Top 10. The last “old” song in my Top 10 is “Remedy” (#7) by Leslie Clio. From now on there are only Top 10 debuts in this part. The highest is by country star Carrie Underwood. Her song about “Dirty laundry” (#8) climbed up four spots and brings her another Top 10 hit from “Storyteller”. Also well known on my chart is Kate Voegele. Finally she entered the Top 10 with her first single from her new album “Canyonlands”. “Free & wild” (#9) climbed up five spots in its 8th week on chart. And last but not least Austrian band Tagtraeumer return with the album “Laufen” (#10) which climbed up three spots.

This week three songs share the greatest gainer award after 14 spots climb. Two times Selena Gomez is celebrating, because “Survivor” (#26) and “Body heat” (#27) are doing well, although “Sober” (#11) had to leave the Top 10 this week. The third one with the same amount of climbs is “River Lea” (#46) by Adele. Directly behind of “River Lea” the highest new debut can be found. And how could it be different than from the TV series “Nashville”. Maybe the strongest song from Season 3 is by Aubrey Peeples who had several Top 10 hits with songs from Season 2. Her new one is “Blind” (#47) which is marking a new direction in which she is going the show. I really like this song and it is absolutely possible that this song could bring her back into the Top 10.

The 2nd highest debut is by Lady Gaga. Since a while she is experimenting with her style and her new one is very different to her early singles. I’m not a big fan of her work, but over the years she had several songs I liked. First I wasn’t sure about “Million reasons” (#62), but already I’m enjoying listening it. At the moment it is hard to predict where it will end, but it could be a surprising hit for her.

Week 305 – December 31^st, 2016

With the New Year’s Eve edition the 2016 chart year ends. Last week Kelly Clarkson conquered the #1 spot with “Nostalgic” (#1) which she defended. For a 2nd time US band Coin are in the runner’s up position, but I think they are ready for take over by next week. The next three songs are all be Anouk. Back into the Top 3 is her monster hit “If I knew” (#3) with a climb of one spot. “Not a lovesong” (#4) is the non-mover of the Anouk songs and “Be my baby” (#5) dropped two spots.

These five songs are followed by Carrie Underwood. Her song about “Dirty laundry” (#6) climbed up two spots and pushed German act Glasperlenspiel back with their song “Für immer” (#7, “For always”). Also up is Kate Voegele. Her first single “Wild & Free” (#8) out of her album “Canyonland” climbed up one spot. In its 4th week on chart Shannon LaBrie’s song “Alcohol” (#9) got its Top 10 debut. For her it is also the first Top 10 hit on my chart. As “Alcohol” is the “youngest” song in the Top 10 it could be the one which is climbing into the Top 5 by next week at least. The Top 10 is rounded out with Austrian band Tagtraeumer. Their song “Laufen” (#10, “Run”) is holding its position for another week.

This week’s greatest gainer is “Sick love” (#43) by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their first releases disappointed me, but this one is on its way up and maybe we can find “Sick Love” in my Top 20 in a few weeks. In general this week is low on highlights. The highest new entry can be found outside the Top 50. It is by The Veronicas. “In my blood” left my chart this week, but they returned with their new one “On your side” (#57). Hopefully this song will do as well as “In my blood”.

Week 306 – January 7^th, 2017

It has been clear for me that there will soon be a change at the top of my chart. This week US indie pop band Coin took over with there smash “Talk too much” (#1). It is the first time since December 2015 when Austrian band Tagtraeumer reached #1 with “Nichts” (“Nothing”) that a male band is topping my chart. Between these #1’s only Max Mutzke and Wiz Khalifa represent male artists at #1 on my chart, but these two male singers where only featured on these tracks. Now in the runner’s up position is Kelly Clarkson with “Nostalgic”. And still at the podium is Anouk’s “If I knew” (#3). Sprinting up in the Top 10 is “Alcohol” (#4). Shannon LaBrie’s song climbed up five spots. The last but not least song in my Top 5 is another song by Anouk. “Not a lovesong” (#5) dropped one spot.

The next part of my Top 10 is opened with Carrie Underwood’s “Dirty laundry” (#6) which hold its spot. Up one spot is Kate Voegele with “Free & wild” (#7). This song is followed by the 3rd Anouk song in my Top 10. “Be my baby” dropped three spots. The only new song in my Top 10 is “Somebody else’s lover” (#9) by Juliette Claire. With this song there are now four songs from the Netherlands in my Top 10. The Top 10 is rounded out with “Für immer” (#10, “For always”) by German act Glasperlenspiel.

Anouk has now three songs in my Top 10 and another one at #13. “Wanna little something” is now the 4th highest song of eight (!) songs by her on my chart. The last songs of the “Queen for a day” album (four and not my mentioned five songs) got their debut. The highest debut of these last album cuts is “Keeps getting better” (#30) which is followed by “Castles in the air” (#31), “Right on time” (#32) and “We are” (#33).

The highest debut by an official single is by a German Hip Hop girl band. SXTN is from Berlin and was founded by two girls with an immigration background. Their first single “Deine Mutter” (“Your mother”) was released in November 2015, but failed to enter my chart. In the song and the video they are working with the typical Hip Hop clichés as an FAZ article pointed out (The described clichés in the video are foam party with naked women, excessive twerking and some more.). A US Hip Hop act would have had a massive hit with such a song, but as I’m not into such songs I wasn’t impressed.

Their next single also flopped, but their 3rd one “Ich bin Schwarz” (“I’m black”) got its debut. This single was released in September, but I discovered it this week. There have been several singles with this theme back in 2015. The first I’ve noticed was by Ah Nice who is a German comedian/singer. He worked out the problems between black and white people with very clever lyrics. When I discovered this song in 2016 I was impressed by the lyrics on the one hand. On the other hand musically I wasn’t impressed and in general this song failed to enter my Top 100. Another song with this theme was released by Leila Akinyi. Her debut single “Afro Spartana” (“Afro Spartan”) also flopped for me. So only the Hip Hop track by SXTN got its debut. Although the lyrics aren’t as clever as by Ah Nice I really appreciate their directness and I absolutely love the beat of the song.

Other debuts are “Loved by you” (#83) by POWERS, “What if” (#90) by Tokio Hotel, “Love don’t break me” (#93) by Billy, “Dancing on the sun” (#94) by Bahari and “Something else” (#96) by I Am Harlequin.

Week 307 – January 14^th, 2017

My favourite song at the moment is still “Talk too much” (#1) by Coin. For a 2nd week they are topping my chart, but there is some action behind them. Up two spots is Shannon LaBrie. For her “Alcohol” (#2) is her first single in my Top 3 and by next week it could be her first #1 on my chart. The podium completing is last weeks runner up and former #1 “Nostalgic” (#3) by Kelly Clarkson. These three songs are followed by an Anouk double pack. “If I knew” (#4) dropped one spot while “Not a lovesong” (#5) was holding its spot.

Leader of the 2nd part of my Top 10 is “Somebody else’s lover” (#6) by Juliette Claire. You know that I’m not a big fan of covers, but this one I really like and for me personally it is not really a cover as I’ve not heard the original song before I listened to the Juliette Claire version. Next in line is “Free & wild” (#7) by Kate Voegele which didn’t move. “Free & wild” is followed by three new additions to my Top 10. The highest one is by a girl band from the Netherlands. TP4Y climbed up seven spots with their single “Blush”. They are followed by a Selena Gomez double pack. “Survivors” (#9) and “Body heat” (#10) reached a top spot in their 9th week on chart.

Now to the greatest gainer and the new entries. This week The Veronicas did best with their recent single “On your side” (#35). This song rose up 14 spots. Directly behind the highest new entry can be found. It is by alternative act Scavenger Hunt. Over the last year I charted several singles from them. And now their early September 2016 release “Sweet talk” (#36) got its debut. In my eyes this song is so far their best release. Maybe this song is doing as well as the Coin single “Talk too much” and so it should reach my Top 10 at least.

The 2nd best new entry is by a well known artist. The 3rd single from Tove Lo’s album “Lady Wood” finally got is debut. It lasted a bit, but now I’m ready to chart “True disaster” (#58). “True disaster” is leading a bunch of new entries. On spot behind Ed Sheeran got his debut with “Shape of you” (#59). He got one more with “Castle on the hill” (#98), but “Shape of you” is definitely my favourite.

Week 308 – January 21^st, 2017

There had been signs that this week could see a new #1. And here it is. Shannon LaBrie is scoring her first #1 on my chart with her debut song “Alcohol” (#1). In its 7th week on chart she hold off Coin’s “Talk too much” (#2) for celebrating a third consecutive week at the top. So US indie pop band Coin is the first hunter of Shannon LaBrie. Meanwhile Kelly Clarkson is holding her spot in the Top 3 with “Nostalgic” (#3). The top songs of my chart are followed by the Anouk songs “If I knew” (#4) and “Not a lovesong” (#5).

Girl power from the Netherlands is trying to bust into my Top 5. TP4Y climbed up two spots with their catchy “Blush” (#6). The quartet from the Netherlands is closed by Juliette Claire and the cover of “Somebody else’s lover” (#7). Next in line is Adele. Her album cut “Remedy” (#8) rose up seven spots. This song is absolutely a highlight of her “25” album and it should be found in my Top 5 by next week. “Remedy” isn’t the only new addition to my Top 10. Zara Larsson is also back after a year of struggling. Finally her recent single “I would like” (#9) reached this part of my chart in its 10th week. The Top 10 is rounded out with “Survivors” (#10) by Selena Gomez.

Although this week is low on highlights I can celebrate a chart record. And of course how couldn’t it be a record set by Anouk. For the first time in my chart history an artist placed eight songs from the same album in my Top 20. Two songs I’ve mentioned before. Two more songs are in my Top 15 which are “Keeps getting better” (#14) after an eight spot climb and “Right on time” (#15) after a nine spot climb. The rest of the songs by Anouk are placed from 17 to 20. At the moment the former #1’s “Be my baby” (#17) and “Wanna little something” (#18) are leading the Anouk pack. Which also brings “Castle in the air” (#19) and “We are” (#20) into my Top 20.

New songs in my Top 100 are “Million lights” (#76), “Trying times “(#77) and “Adam” (#78) by Leslie Clio, “Love me” (#96) by Raylee, “Come back” (#98) by Heidi Musum and “Dich wiederzusehn” (#100, “To see you again”) by Jonathan Zelter.

Week 309 – January 28^th, 2017

At the end of 2011 Lana Del Rey took over my chart with her first big hit “Video games”. In these days she had several hits including her other #1 “Blue Jeans”. Since 2012 she can hardly be found on my chart. Let’s move forward to 2017. Shannon LaBrie defeated the #1 spot for a first time with a similar sound as Lana Del Rey. Personally I believe that “Alcohol” (#1) could have been a big hit for Lana Del Rey, but so “Alcohol” is an overseen perl. “Alcohol” is followed “Talk too much” (#2). Coin isn’t giving up, but it will be hard for them to stay in my Top 2. New among my Top 3 is the girl band TP4Y from the Netherlands. Their catchy smash climbed up three spots in its 9th week on chart. The next song is another new addition to my Top 5. Adele rose four spots with “Remedy” (#4) which is ready for take over by next week. And then there is the first of four songs by Anouk in my Top 10. “If I knew” (#5) withstands the pressure and dropped only one spot.

Not any longer in my Top 5 are two former #1’s. First to mention is “Nostalgic” (#6) by Kelly Clarkson. And the other one is “Not a lovesong” (#7) by Anouk. Anouk placed two more songs into my Top 10. The biggest smash of these new songs is now “Right on time” (#8) which surpassed “Keeps getting better” (#9). The Top 10 is closed by a sixth song from the Netherlands in this week’s Top 10. “Somebody else’s lover” (#10) by Juliette Claire dropped three spots.

Two more songs by Anouk are knocking at the door to my Top 10. “Castles in the air” (#13) and “We are” (#14) just missed this apart as Adele’s “River Lea” (#11). Also in a good position for a next week’s Top 10 spot is Lady Gaga’s “Million reasons” (#15). This song is so different to her previous chart hits, but it is growing more and more on me and so I hope that “Million reasons” will enter the Top 10. Not far behind these mentioned songs are “On your side” (#22) by The Veronicas, “Sweet talk” (#23) by Scavenger Hunt and “Shape of you” (#30) by Ed Sheeran. In my eyes it will cost them some more weeks to reach my Top 10 or the Top 15 at least, but in the end these songs are absolutely worth to reach this part of my chart.

Right behind the greatest gainer of the week – which is “Shape of you” by Ed Sheeran – the highest debut can be found. It is from a new band from Ireland. Little Hours released their 2nd official single back in December. Last week they finally released their video when I discovered this beautiful song. During the winter ballads have a little bit more influence on me than in other parts of the year and so this is the right time for charting “Water” (#31). We will see where the chart journey is ending, but I believe that this could be a Top 10 hit and a rare song by male interprets which is reaching such a spot.

Electronic pop by US band XYLØ has been found on my chart since last year. “Fool’s paradise” had been the bands biggest hit for me up-to-date. This week they return with their latest single “Get closer” (#39). “Get closer” is a nice song and should outperform “Fool’s paradise” (peak at #37) by next week. After this will happen a rise into my Top 20 is sure and maybe they could get their first Top 10 hit with this. As always don’t take my predicts as guaranteed, because in the past I was very often wrong with this forecasts.

Week 310 – February 4^th, 2017

Last week it had been only a thought. This week it went real when Adele took over with her latest hit from her “25” album. “Remedy” (#1) outperformed Shannon LaBrie’s “Alcohol” (#2) with a three spot climb and is now Adele’s 4th #1 from this album which brings her up to seven #1’s since 2011. Only Anouk has more #1’s on my chart than Adele. And of course Anouk is trying to get another one in the near future, because of the fact that “Right on time” (#4) is now in my Top 5 and “Keeps getting better” (#7) is knocking at this door. On the other hand there are “only” three songs by Anouk in my Top 10 because “If I knew” (#6) dropped one spot and “Not a lovesong” (#11) had to leave. The podium completing is Coin’s “Talk too much” (#3) while the Top 5 is closed by TP4Y with their smash “Blush” (#5).

Outside the Top 5 there you can find two new songs in this part of my chart. The highest new song in this section is by Adele. “River Lea” (#8) climbed up three spots. And the other is by Lady Gaga. Finally “Million reasons” (#10) reached a spot among the Top 10 hits brings her back into this section for the first time since her collaboration with R. Kelly when “Do what U want” peaked at #7 back in December 2013. Caught between these two songs is former #1 “Nostalgic” (#9). For Kelly Clarkson the Top 10 run with this song will end soon.

Generally this week had been very calm. Only six songs got their debut. The highest one is by German dance project Cascada. Since their breakthrough with “Evacuate the dancefloor” and their recent single “Run” (#61) a lot of time passed by and on my chart they had several hits, but non of these songs reached my #1 so far. I personally don’t think that this fact will change with “Run”. It is a solid track for them, but nothing outstanding. The next two new entries are by Italian singer Emma. Her highest debut is “Per questo paese” (“For this country”, #83) which is love song for Italy, but I doubt that song will be found for a long time on my chart. Her other debut is “Argento adesso” (“Silver now”, #84). The other new songs are “Kids (ain’t all right)” (#88) by Grace Mitchell, “My song” (#89) by Jonathan Jackson, Sam Palladio & Clare Bowen and “Can’t help my heart” (#98) by Will Chase & Laura Benanti.

Week 311 – February 11^th, 2017

It’s another week with low action. The first two spots on my chart remain the same as last week. So Adele defended the top spot with “Remedy” (#1) in front of Shannon LaBrie’s “Alcohol” (#2). Behind these two there are two songs by Anouk which climbed up one and three spots. “Right on time” (#3) is now completing the podium and “Keeps getting better” (#4) is one behind. Still in the Top 5, but on its way down is Coin’s “Talk too much” (#5). Recently someone pointed out that I prefer female singer. That’s absolutely true and so it is no surprise that Coin’s “Talk too much” is the only song interpreted by a male among my Top 10.

A different sound is opening the 2nd part of my Top 10. Believe it or not “Million reasons” (#6) is Lady Gaga's biggest hit on my chart since I re-started charting back in 2011. For my part I can hardly believe it too that this song is now on its way into my Top 5. One spot behind Adele’s 2nd Top 10 hit at the moment “River Lea” (#7) can be found. “River Lea” climbed up one spot. At #8 you can find former Top 3 hit “Blush” by TP4Y. The last two spots of my Top 10 are going to Anouk. For “If I knew” (#9) it seems that the Top 10 run is ending, but “Castle in the air” (#10) finally reached this part.

For the highest new entry we’ve to look outside the Top 50. Within this part there you find the greatest gainer which is by Leslie Clio. Two of three songs by her climbed up 14 spots. These are “Million lights” (#48) and “Trying times” (#49). But back to the highest new entry. It is by a well known US band. Cold War Kids had several hits on my chart from their last album “Hold my home” which I bought. Now they are returning with the first single from their upcoming album “L.A. Divine”. “Love is mystical” (#51) is a very good choice for a single and reminds me to their biggest hits on my chart “All this could be yours” and “First”. This song should definitely bring them back in into my Top 10.

The 2nd highest debut of three official singles is by German-Polish actress and singer Natalia Avelon. I doubt that most of you know her. Back in 2007 she had her only hit with “Summer wine” which is a cover of the classic by Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood. This 2007 song had been the title track for the film “Das wilde Leben” (“The wild life”) where she portrayed Uschi Obermaier who is considered a sex symbol of the “1968 generation” and of course of the protests of 1968. The 2007 version of “Summer wine” had been a duet with Ville Valo who is the lead singer of HIM. HIM by the way had only one notable hit for me with their 2000 smash “Join me (in death)”. Let’s now move forward to 2017. Ten years after this big success with “Summer wine” Natalia Avelon is releasing her official solo debut “In another life” (#69). This song is solid, but not outstanding. At the moment I don’t see this song within my Top 20, but maybe this song will surprise me in the long run.

Other debuts are “Alles OK” (#58, “Everything OK”), “Flugangst” (#80, “Fear of flying”) and “Wien Zürich Berlin” (#81, “Vienna Zurich Berlin”) by Tagtraeumer and “Was bleibt” (#79, “What remains”) by Yvonne Catterfeld.

Week 312 – February 18^th, 2017

After an eight week break Anouk is back at the top of my chart. Her latest #1 song is “Right on time” (#1) which climbed up two spots. “Right on time” is her 15th #1 on my chart and when I say Anouk is topping the chart I’ve to point out that she leading with two songs. “Keeps getting better” (#2) also climbed up two spots and is now in the runner’s up position. These are the first two of five songs by Anouk in my Top 10 which is by the way another record by her. The podium completing is last week’s #1 “Remedy” (#3) by Adele who placed two songs in my Top 10. This means that seven of ten songs in my Top 10 are by Anouk and Adele. Two spots down, but still in the Top 5 is “Alcohol” (#4) by Shannon LaBrie. And finally “Million reasons” (#5) by Lady Gaga made it into the Top 5.

“River Lea” (#6) by Adele climbed up one spot, but just missed the Top 5. The only song by a male interpret in my Top 10 dropped two spots. Therefore “Talk too much” by Coin can be found at #7. The Top 10 is rounded out with an Anouk triple. “Castle in the air” (#8) climbed up two spots. Also up two spots is “We are” (#9), but fot this song it is the first week within the Top 10. Last but not least in this triple is “If I knew” (#10). The former #1 is eventually in its last week in this part of my chart.

Outside the Top 10 several songs brought themselves in a good position to enter this part in the next weeks. Scavenger Hunt’s “Sweet talk” (#12) is maybe the favourite for a Top 10 spot, but not far behind are Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of you” (#14) and Little Hours’ “Water” (#15). I hope that these last two mentioned songs enter my Top 10 to lift up the male singer rate in my Top 10 to a new level. There are more songs than these three songs I just mentioned which have some chances to enter the Top 10. Another one is the greatest gainer of the week. It is by the alternative rock band The Revivalists. Although founded in 2007 I’ve not heard about them until their release of “Wish I knew you” (#28).

About four months ago Austrian band Tagtraeumer released a non-album single. I wasn’t sure about charting this song before I charted the last song from their album “Alles OK” because this song didn’t got any airplay. Last week I debuted the last songs from “Alles OK” and so I decided to finally chart “Aus Gold” (#47, “Of gold”) which is now the highest debut in this edition.

“Aus Gold” is the only new entry within my Top 50. The next best new entry is by DJ from the Netherlands. Bakermat had one big hit with the remix of “One day” back in 2013 which is for me one of the worst songs of that year. Since these days he had some minor hits in his home country, but with his new one “Baby” (#53) he could have a big hit in his pocket. I really like this song and it could enter my Top 20 in the future.
