Week 313 – February 25^th, 2017

Last week there had been 15 new entries. This week there are 16 new entries. But there is only one queen reigning. Still my chart is all about Anouk. The week before she took over with “Right on time” (#1) and this song is leading the pack for a 2nd week in a row. “Right on time” is followed by “Keeps getting better” (#2) which is in the runner’s up position for a 2nd time. For the moment there is no quadruple by Anouk in my Top 5 because “Castles in the air” (#5) and “We are” (#6) didn’t this last step in this edition, but I believe that there is a big chance to see four Anouk songs topping my charting in the upcoming weeks.

Beside Anouk there are still different artists in my Top 10. Let’s welcome Lady Gaga for the first time in my Top 3. Her song “Million reasons” (#5) climbed up two spots to complete the podium. And still in the Top 5 is Adele with her former #1 hit “Remedy” (#4) while “River Lea” (#9) is on its way out of the Top 10. Also dropping is “Alcohol” (#7). The Shannon LaBrie song dropped three spots and I hope that “Alcohol” will stay for some more weeks within this part of my chart. So much for that. Let’s welcome some new artists in my Top 10. For the first time since October 2013 and for the first time as a solo artist British singer Ed Sheeran reached my Top 10. The last time he had been in my Top 10 he was featured on the Tayler Swift song “Everything has changed”. This week he returned with his hit “Shape of you” (#8). The other new artist is the alternative act Scavenger Hunt. Their premier Top 10 hit is “Sweet talk” (#10) which climbed up two spots.

In the last weeks I’ve mentioned Lana Del Rey a few times. I described my former #1 “Alcohol” by Shannon LaBrie as a possible hit when she’d have sung it. Now she returned after an absence of nearly two and a half year with the first single “Love” (#27) of her upcoming new album. This song reminds me to her first singles “Video games” and “Blue jeanes” which peaked at #1. But is reminding enough to get another #1 hit on my chart? It’s hard to predict, but “Love” is a very good song and it is absolutely possible that she could enter my Top 10 at least with this song.

In the fairway of this debut is a newcomer from the US. Jane XØ has released her actual single “Love me” some months ago, but if failed to enter my chart. Now she has released a bunch of remix versions and an acoustic version of this song as a single. It is this acoustic version of “Love me” (#28) which I fell in love, because it lifted the whole song to a new level. Every now and then acoustic versions can be found on my chart, but this one is very special and maybe “Love me” is a possible future Top 10 hit.

Three more songs got their debut within my Top 50. The next one debuted straight behind the greatest gainer of the week which is “Be with you always” (#33) by Mighty Oaks. The highest debut of these three songs is “Machine” (#34) by MisterWives. As I charted their debut album it is no surprise that they got a solid debut with their actual single. Then there is the German band 2Raumwohnung. There new single “Somebody lonely and me” (#37) has been released in two different remixes according with their album title “Tag und Nacht” (“Day and night”). On this album every song is included in the “Nachtversion” (“night version”) and “Tagversion” (“day version”). On my chart you can find the “Nachtversion” of this song. On the track "Somebody lonely and me" there are parts in German and English. The last but not least debut within in the Top 50 is by German newcomer Antje Schomaker with her debut single “Bis mich jemand findet” (#44, “Until someone finds me”)

The highest debut outside the Top 50 is by Leslie Clio. On Tuesday she released the first single “Darkness is a filler” (#56) of her new album “Purple”. Over the last two years Leslie Clio dominated my chart with songs as “My heart ain’t that broken” (year-end #1 in 2015) or “Damage done” (year-end #1 in 2016). Although some of the lyrics were darker on this album the sound was mostly positive and energetic. With “Darkness is a filler” Leslie Clio is establishing a complete new sound. This change is described on therevue.ca where Ben Yung wrote: “Gone is the optimism and cheerfulness of Clio’s past efforts, and in their place is a starker and more emotive approach.” Via itunes I was able to get a first listen to this album and this darker sound is drawing through the whole album. My first impression is that this album is good, but at the moment I’m not sure if I like this album as much as I love “Eureka”. On the other hand “Darkness is a filler” is growing more and more on me since the first listen when I thought “OMG, what is this! This can’t be her new single.”.

Minelli, “Meine Frau” (#96, “My wife”) – don’t be confused with the two Amanda songs, because one is from a Danish singer and this one from a German one, “How I like it” (#97) by James Maslow, “Taker her down” (#98) by Ruben Young and “Work of art” (#100) by Jamie Cullum.

Week 314 – March 4^th, 2017

Looking over my chart you could have a kind of déjà vu or the feeling that there is the Groundhog Day. Let’s push the rewind button to the end of last year and there had been a big domination by Anouk with topping the chart with three songs and preventing “Sober” (dropped out this week) to go to #1. A fourth song by her had been on #5. From October until December Anouk occupied the spots #1, #2, #3, & #5 and “Sober” had been caught between. Now move forward to today. Again there is a domination by Anouk, but now she is leading with four (!) songs. “Right on time” (#1) is still on the top while “Keeps getting better” (#2), “Castles in the air” (#3) and “We are” (#4) are following. The best song of the “rest” is “Shape of you” (#5) by Ed Sheeran. Will this song share the “Sober” fate?

Outside the Top 5 “Million reasons” (#6) by Lady Gaga can be found. This song dropped three spots. “Million reasons” is followed by two former #1’s. First to mention is “Remedy” (#7) by Adele. The other one is “Alcohol” (#8) by Shannon LaBrie. For the first time in my Top 10 is Irish band Little Hours. Their song “Water” (#9) climbed up three spots. Last but not least in this part of my chart is “Sweet talk” (#10) by Scavenger Hunt.

Last week saw a bunch of new entries when Lana Del Rey’s new song “Love” (#26) was leading these new entries. This week “Love” only climbed up two spots and is now the 2nd highest ranked song of last week’s new entries. The highest is now “Machine” (#22) by MisterWives. Also doing well in its 2nd week on chart is the first single “Darkness is a filler” (#39) by Leslie Clio of her new album “Purple”. “Darkness is a filler” is the greatest gainer of the week with a climb of 17 spots.

For a third week in a row 15 or more songs debut on my chart. The highest one can directly be found behind the greatest gainer of the week. It is a collaboration by German DJ Zedd and Canadian singer Alessia Cara. Both had Top 10 hits on my chart before and “Stay” (#40) is a very good one. “Stay” isn’t the only collaboration within this week’s debuts. The next one is by Martin Garrix and Dua Lipa. Their song “Scared to be lonely” (#50) is now at #12 in Austria and finally on my chart. Some more dance collaborations on my chart are “Show you love” (#61) by Kato & Sigala feat. Hailee Steinfeld, “It ain’t me” (#94) by Kygo & Selena Gomez and “Something just like this” (#95) by The Chainsmokers & Coldplay. And I should forget that Maroon 5 and Future are debuting this week with “Cold” (#92).

So much about collaboration debuts in this week’s edition. The highest solo debut is by the US band MUNA. I’ve listened to their song “I know a place” (#49) some weeks before, but I didn’t payed much attention to it. Over the last week I gave this song another try and now this song is a charting hit. Almost the same applies to next new entry. Last year Serena Ryder had a hit in her home country Canada with “Got your number” (#58). I wasn’t excited, but now I heard this song in the Netflix comedy “Santa Clarita Diet”. The comedy itself isn’t the best I’ve seen, but the feature of this song made me curious. By the way I really like the acting of Timothy Olyphant. To get it to the point this feature brought me to “Got your number” which is this week’s fourth highest debut.

Week 316 – March 18^th, 2017

Due to lack of time there hadn’t been a review last week. This week I’m returning without a new #1. “Keeps getting better” (#1) is defending the title while “Castles in the air” (#2) climbed up one spot. The podium completing is former #1 “Right on time” (#3). All these three songs are by Anouk. But there is still one song by her in my Top 10 which could be found at #4. “We are” (#4) is dividing the Anouk songs from the rest. For a third week in a row the rest of the best of my chart is lead by Ed Sheeran’s wonderful “Shape of you” (#5). All over the world his album is dominating the single charts. On my chart his influence isn’t as big, because only “Shape of you” and “Castles on the hill” (#31) can be found.

The next song in line is from Ireland. Irleand had always been noticed for beautiful music. Now it is the time for the newest act Little Hours. Their single “Water” (#6) climbed up one spot. Behind this song there is a song from Berlin and the Folk band Mighty Oaks. The members of this band are from the USA, Italy and England. They started their career back in 2010 with the EP “Driftwood seat”. In 2013 they released their first single “Just one day” on the band’s own initiative which got moderate success in Germany. Until “Be with you always” (#7) they failed to enter my chart, but this week they got their first Top 10 hit with this song. “Be with you always” isn’t the only new song in my Top 10. The other one is “Love is mystical” (#8) by US band Cold War Kids. For them “Love is mystical” is a return to this part of my chart. At #9 you can find “Remedy” by Adele. Still holding its spot in my Top 10 is Tokio Hotel with “What if” (#10).

MisterWives are in contact with my Top 10 after a climb of five spots with their latest single “Machine” (#11). It is absolutely possible that they are matching their biggest hit “No need for dreaming” with this song in the near future. Some more songs which could enter the Top 10 are “Love” (#20) by Lana Del Rey, “Love me (acoustic)” (#21) by Jane XØ or “Darkness is a filler” (#24) by Leslie Clio.

For the greatest gainer of the week I’ve to dig deep. It is by Kygo & Selena Gomez and The Chainsmokers & Coldplay. Both songs “It ain’t me” (#72) and “Something just like this” (#73) climbed up 13 spots in their third week on chart. Some spots behind the greatest gainer you can find the highest new entry which is little bit older. The song “Animals” (#84) is by Norma Jean Martine who released this song back in October 2015. In October 2016 she released her debut album “Only in my mind” which is including this song. I recently bought her debut album which has a retro style I absolutely like. Maybe “Only in my mind” isn’t the best album I ever bought, but it has several pearls on it. The 2nd highest debut is also from this album. It is “No gold” (#85).

Week 317 – March 25^th, 2017

First I’ve to apologize that I put the Anouk songs in the wrong order of my last weeks chart. “Keeps getting better” had been #1 in front of “Castles in the air” (#2) and “Right on time” (#3) and not “Right on time” and “Castles in the air”. Sorry for that. But let’s now move on to this week’s edition.

“Castles in the air” (#1) is now the reigning song of my chart. And there is only one Anouk song left which could also reach my #1. “We are” (#2) climbed up two spots to end in the runner’s up positon. Should “We are” took over the chart in the next weeks 10 out of 11 songs from her “Queen for a day” album reached #1. Only the first official single of this album “Dirty girl” (peak at #8) failed to reach my #1. This album marks a record which shouldn’t be broken in the near future. New in my Top 3 is a song which isn’t by Anouk. It is “Shape of you” (#3) by Ed Sheeran. So he is dividing the Anouk songs in two parts. Last week’s #1 “Keeps getting better” (#4) dropped three spots and her other former #1 in the Top 10 “Right on time” (#5) dropped one spot.

Knocking at the door to my Top 5 is a song from Berlin. The Folk trio Mighty Oaks climbed up one spot with their wonderful “Be with you always” (#6). In their tow line are Cold War Kids. Their song “Love is mystical” (#7) also climbed up one spot. “Water” (#8) by Little Hours dropped three spots. Behind you can find the only new song in my Top 10. It is “Machine” (#9) by MisterWives. The Top 10 is rounded out with Adele’s “Remedy” (#10).

This week is another week with more than 15 new entries. The highest one can be found in the Top 50 while the greatest gainer of the week is in the Top 40. A country song by Carrie Underwood climbed up 19 spots to got this award. It is “Relapse” (#38). But back to the highest new entry which is “Symphony” (#44) by Clean Bandit feat. Zara Larsson. Right with the start I liked this song, although Zara Larsson’s voice in this song sounds a little bit childlike. Maybe this could be a problem in the long run, but at the moment this song has everything to hit my Top 20.

The next new song is “Deiche” (#55, “Deiks”) by Jennifer Rostock. Over the years they had some success on my chart, but their outstanding song since 2011 is “Ich kann nicht mehr” (“I can’t do this anymore”) which reached #1 back in January 2012. “Deiche” is a more rock orientated song and has some meaningful lines. I don’t see that “Deiche” will do as well as “Ich kann nicht mehr”, but the start is promising.

Week 318 – April 1^st, 2017

It looks like the domination by Anouk is ending. As predicted last week with the last song “We are” (#1) from her album “Queen for a day” another song by her took over. It took “We are” 13 weeks to reach the top spot. Only the song “Dirty girl” from this album failed to peak at the top. 10 out of 11 songs from this album reached my #1 which is a record for the books which should be broken in the near future. New at #2 is “Shape of you” by Ed Sheeran. He could be the first male artist at #1 since Wiz Khalifa was featured at the song “F*ck apologies” by JoJo back in September 2016 and the first solo male artist since September 2016 when German rapper Cro took over with his song “Bye bye”. The podium is completed with another song by Anouk which is my last week’s #1 “Castles in the air” (#3). New in this section of my chart is the beautiful “Be with you always” (#4) by Might Oaks. There is still one more song by Anouk at #5 which is “Right on time”.

Two weeks ago “Keeps getting better” had been my #1. This week this song dropped two spots and is now at #6. Behind this song are Cold War Kids with “Love is mystical” (#7) and MisterWives with “Machine” (#8). Then there is the only new song in my Top 10. It is by the well known singer Leslie Clio. The first single “Darkness is a filler” (#9) from her upcoming album climbed up six spots. The Top 10 is rounded out with “Water” (#10) by Irish band Little Hours.

This week is low on new entries, but there is one within my Top 20. It is by Lithuanian singer GJan. She had some hits on my chart before as “Losin’ you” (peaked at #30 back March 2013) ore “Not afraid” (peaked at #32 back in July 2013). But since 2013/14 she failed to place a song by her in my Top 30 again. The last song by GJan on my chart had been “Wild” which peaked at #94 back in January 2017. But now she returned with which is for me her strongest song. “Wasn’t easy” stormed into my Top 20 with a debut at #12. “Wasn’t easy” has an infectious sound and interesting lyrics. It had been easily the best song by her and it could be a Top 10 hit for her by next week.

Other debuts are “Rise” (#80) and “Revial” (#81) by Selena Gomez, “Casi humanos” (#83) by Dvicio and “Automatic” (#84) Amy MacDonald.

I don't really know Dvicio. "Casi humanos" is the first song I heard by them and I really like it. And maybe this song is reaching my Top 50 in the near future.

Obession with Anouk is good. I nearly like every album from her, but this one is very special. In my eyes "Queen for a day" is her best album since years, but her actuall one "Fake it till we die" isn't as good as this one although there are some good songs on this album too. In a few weeks there will be the first debut from this album, but I don't think that this album will produce as many #1's as "Queen for a day".

Over the last weeks there was no way to escape Ed Sheeran. First he released his singles “Castle on the hill” (#64) and “Shape of you” (#1). Then he released the rest of the songs of the album "Divide" and he broke every record with this album and songs that could be broken. On my chart it lasted 13 weeks for “Shape of you” to take over the lead, but now I’m joining the rest of the world. “Shape of you” is a great and catchy song, but I doubt that this song will stay at the top of my chart for a long time. Ed Sheeran’s first #1 on my chart is followed by folk pop. The German band formed by members from the USA, Italy and the United Kingdom reached the runner’s up spot with their beautiful “Be with you always” (#2). This song is flying under the radar, but it should gain more attention.

But where is Anouk? She is still in the Top 3 with her last weeks #1 “We are” (#3). And she still has four songs in my Top 10. “Castles in the air” (#5) dropped two spots while “Right on time” (#8) dropped three spots and “Keeps getting better” (#10) dropped four spots. Between these songs by Anouk you can find several songs from well known artists on my chart. US band Cold War Kids reached the Top 5 with “Love is mystical” (#4) and the other US band in my Top 10 “MisterWives” missed the Top 5 by one spot with “Machine” (#6). And I should forget about the chart dominating Leslie Clio. Her first single “Darkness is a filler” (#7) of her upcoming new album climbed up one spot. The only new song in my Top 10 is “Wasn’t easy” (#9) by GJan. She replaced Little Hours' “Water” (#11) and for her this is her first Top 10 hit.

This weeks greatest gainer is “Want it all” (#35) by Cam. In its 5th week on the chart this song climbed up 14 spots. This is one of only handful notable things that happend in my Top 50. The highest debut is by German singer Adel Tawil. Her released two singles at once, but only “Ist da jemand” (#45, “Is there anybody”) got its debut. “Ist da jemand” is a very emotional song and it reminds me of his older songs when he was part of Ich + Ich. This song got a solid start, but it should do well in the next weeks. The only other debut within the Top 50 is by Canadian singer Ruth B.. She recently released a video for her song “Superficial love” (#49) and now this could be found on my chart. This song is her chart debut.

Other debuts are “Higher” (#56) by Carly Rae Jepsen, “Craving you” (#58) by Thomas Rhett feat. Maren Morris, “Auf beiden Beinen” (#86, “On both legs”) by LOTTE, “For awhile” (#91) by Ryan Robinette, “I don’t really dance” (#92) by Eric Odeen, “City girl” (#93) by Ryan Hurd, “Therapy” (#94) by Kim Cesarion, “Take it like a man” (#98) by TP4Y and “Made 4 love” (#100) by SXTN.

Week 320 – April 15^th, 2017

Shake and quiver, little tree, give my chart a new #1.The prayers were heard. Once again I can celebrate a new #1. This time the international folk band Mighty Oaks from Germany took over with their beautiful “Be with you always” (#1). “Be with you always” is the bands first chart hit and now their first #1 hit on my chart. Last week’s #1 “Shape of you” (#2) by Ed Sheeran dropped one spot and is now in the runner’s up position. Up to new peaks are Cold War Kids. For the first time in their history they reached a spot in my Top 3. “Love is mystical” (#3) climbed up one spot and isn’t the bands only song in this week’s edition, but more of this later. Also up is “Machine” (#4). For MisterWives this climb means that they equal their previous chart peak record with “No need for dreaming”. Looking over my Top 4 at this particular moment shows that there are three bands in my Top 4. This is the first time since re-starting that bands are dominating my chart. The Top 5 is rounded out with the first single from Leslie Clio’s album “Purple”. Her song “Darkness is a filler” (#5) climbed up two spots.

Last week at #9 and this week at #6 is GJan with her song “Wasn’t easy”. In its 3rd week on chart “Wasn’t easy” is knocking heavily at the door to the Top 5. GJan’s song can be found in front of only two songs by Anouk in this week’s Top 10. Her highest ranked song is still “We are” (#7) followed by “Castles in the air” (#8). Directly behind you can find the highest debut. For the first in time in a while there is a Top 10 debut. And who else could it be than an artist from my chart domination fraction? No it isn’t by Anouk. It is the 2nd official single from Leslie Clio. With another break up anthem she is returning very strong in my Top 10. While “Darkness is a filler” is on its way into my Top 3 “And I’m leaving” (#9) could be her next #1 on my chart. The last but not least song in my Top 10 is “Love” (#10). “Love” is the Top 10 return for Lana Del Rey after a very long break.

This week four songs made their debut within in my Top 5. While “And I’m leaving” is starting its chart run in my Top 10 you’ve to look down the chart to find the 2nd highest debut which is by Cold War Kids. Their 2nd single “Can we hang on?” (#39) got a solid debut. Sure a debut at #39 isn’t as good as a Top 10 debut, but look at “Love is mystical”. This song finally entered the Top 3 and I’m absolutely sure that “Can we hang on?” could do as well as the bands top song at the moment.

One spot behind “Can we hang on?” US Christian rock band Needtobreathe placed their first song on my chart since August 2012. Back in August 2012 their song “Keep your eyes open” had moderate success with a peak at #57. The bands biggest hit for me is so far “Something beautiful” which I discovered at the end of the summer 2010 and about a half year before I re-started charting. Since these days Needtobreathe hasn’t had a comparable hit in my eyes. Until to this week when their latest single “Hard love” (#40) got is debut. Officially “Hard love” had been released as a single back in 2016 which I hadn’t checked out. Now they released “Hard love” again and they are featuring US singer Andra Day who had one chart hit with “Rise up” (peak at #92) back in 2015. For both “Hard love” is their biggest hit on my chart until today.

The 4th highest debut is by US singer Michelle Branch. She now has two songs on my chart. The first single “Hopeless romantic” (#44) from the album of the same name failed to enter my Top 40 until now. With this edition her 2nd official single from this album “Best you ever” (#50) debuted. For some kind of reasons I think that this song will do better on my chart than “Hopeless romantic”. It is definitely nice to have her back on my chart, although both songs can’t be compared with her old material.

Other debuts are “Be who you are” (#63) by The Kooks, “Know love” (#88) by Wild Culture feat. Chu, “Drive” (#89) by Glades, “Physical” (#90) by The Aces, “Never enough” (#92) by Scavenger Hunt and “Finish line” (#98) by Jade Jackson.

Week 321 – April 22^nd, 2017

“Be with you always” (#1) is first song at #1 since “Keeps getting better” (#14) which defended the top position of my chart. But behind this song by Mighty Oaks US band Cold War Kids are scratching at the throne with their song “Love is mystical” (#2). Only one step up and they could celebrate the bands first #1 on my chart. For the first time under my Top 3 acts are another band from the US. MisterWives climbed up one spot with their song “Machine” (#3). Directly behind these bands is the first song by Leslie Clio in my Top 10. “Darkness is a filler” (#4) also climbed up one spot and is now attacking the Top 3. By the way Leslie Clio is the only act in my Top 5 who had a #1 before. Next in line is Lithuanian singer GJan. With her electronic pop song “Wasn’t easy” (#5) she is still continuing her success with entering my Top 5 for the first time in her chart history.

Two weeks ago Ed Sheeran reached the #1 spot on my chart for the first time in his career with “Shape of you” (#6). This week “Shape of you” dropped four spots and is now outside the Top 5. “Shape of you” is still a very good song, but there is a more “younger and fresher” sound coming up as “And I’m leaving” (#7) by German Leslie Clio who debuted within the Top 10 with this song a week ago. This week sees another Top 10 debut from an act from Germany. You know Wincent Weiss? If you’re following my chart you’ll definitely know that he had no chart hit before. Wincent Weiss participated in the 10th season of DSDS back in 2013, but he failed to reach the live shows. In autumn 2016 he released his first solo single “Musik sein” (“Be music)” which reached the Top 10 in Germany and Austria. It had been a tough decision not to debut this song, but for me there is something missing. His follow up “Feuerwerk” (“Firework”) also failed to enter my chart, but with his third single “Nur ein Herzschlag entfernt” (“Only a heartbeat away”) from his debut album “Irgendwas gegen die Stille” (“Something against the silence”) he shot straight into my Top 10. First I thought that this is a good song, but a Top 10 hit? But a week later I’m listening to this song and listening and listening and … . At the end I was really surprised that this song met all my criteria for a Top 10 debut, but hey this song brilliant and so “Nur ein Herzschlag entfernt” is debuting one spot behind last week’s highest debut. This week’s Top 10 is rounded out with the Anouk songs “We are” (#9) and “Castles in the air” (#10).

Only one other song is debuting in this week’s Top 50. It is by Canadian act The New Electric. Last year they released their first single “Life’s what you make it”, but this song failed to enter my chart. In autumn 2016 they released the bands single “Ride this feeling” (#48) which I’m debuting this week. For me this song is a good appetizer for the summer, but at the moment I don’t know where the journey will end. Next debut just missed the Top 50. It is by German singer Lena. On my chart she is best known for her 2015 #1 hit “Traffic lights”. Now she is back with the first single “Lost in you” (#52) from her new album “Gemini”. “Lost in you” is a nice song, but I doubt that this will be her next #1.

Other debuts are “Alles” (#60, “Everything”) by SAM, “Vielleicht” (#61, “Maybe”) by Miawata, “Hard times” (#62) by Paramore, “Good news” (#91) by Ocean Park Standoff, “Hold on” (#92) by Chord Overstreet and “Gravity” (#93) by Leo Stannard & Frances.

Week 322 – April 29^th, 2017

Do you remember episode 5 of the 6th season from “How I meet your mother” when Barney insists “New is always better”? Gone are the days when Anouk dominated my chart with four songs from her album “Queen for a day”. Now for the first time in a while a song under seven weeks on my chart took over. It is a song from the young Lithuanian singer GJan. Her song about the ending of a love and how hard it is to go separate ways when there is some rest of love reached my #1 for the first time in its 5th week on chart. “Wasn’t easy” (#1) is also the first #1 for GJan. This song is followed by last week’s #1 “Be with you always” (#2) by Mighty Oaks. There are a lot of differences between these two songs as the general sound (Folk vs. Dance) or the theme (falling in love vs. break-up). New in the Top 3 is another fresh and young song from German singer Wincent Weiss. Last week he debuted in my Top 10 with “Nur ein Herzschlag entfernt” (#3, “Only a heartbeat away”). This week Wincent Weiss reached his first Top 3 hit with his first chart appearance. Holding its spot is “Darkness is a filler” (#4) by Leslie Clio. This is her first of two appearances in my Top 5, because “And I’m leaving” (#5) climbed up two spots.

Outside the Top 5 you’ll find last week’s #2 and #3. For Cold War Kids and MisterWives their upward trend is over and so “Love is mystical” (#6) and “Machine” (#7) are now on their way out of the Top 10. Although dropping two spots “Shape of you” (#8) is fighting for a spot in the Top 10. Next in line for a debut is “Galaway girl”, but here I’m not sure when this song is going for its debut. I personally hope that “Perfect girl” will be a future single. The last but not least two spots in my Top 10 are going to new songs. First to mention is Carrie Underwood. Her latest Top 10 hit is “Relapse” (#9). The next one is “Flame” (#10) by US singer Tinashe. For her “Flame” is her first Top 10 hit.

Two weeks in a row I had debuts in my Top 10. This week the highest debut only can be found outside the Top 30. It is a song by Shawn Mendes. “There’s nothing holdin’ me back” (#36) could easily be his highest charting hit on my chart. So far he had two hits on my chart which are “Stitches” (peak at #42) and “Treat you better” (peak at #33). I really like “There’s nothing holdin’ me back” which is very catchy. Looking over my chart there you can see that most of the songs in my Top 30 are a little bit older. So the chance is high that Shawn Mendes is grabbing his first Top 10 hit with this song.

Shawn Mendes top debut is framed by two songs which are awarded the greatest gainer of the week. These songs climbed up 15 spots. These are “Higher” (#31) by Carly Rae Jepsen and “Village” (#44) by Cam. The next three debuts can be found outside the Top 60. The highest of these songs is the new one by Charlie Puth. “Attention” (#61) is definitely his highest charting song on my chart and should easily reach my Top 50 at least. Charlie Puth is followed by British act Hurts. Their latest song “Beautiful ones” (#62) is also a sure shot for my Top 50. Then there is Shawn Hook. He had a two hits before with “Relapse” (peaked at #19) as his biggest hit. This week he debuts “Reminding me” (#63) where he’s featuring Vanessa Hudgens. For her “Reminding me” is her first chart appearance.

Other debuts are “All I ask” (#81), “Million years ago” (#82) and “Sweetest devotion” (#83) b Adele, “Wunderkerzenmenschen” (#87, “Sparklers people”), “Paint this land” (#99) by Busby Marou and “Say no more” (#100) by Forget Tomorrow.

Week 323 – May 6^th, 2017

I’m not known for having a lot of male artists in my Top 10. So it is no wonder that GJan is defending the crown with her dance pop “Wasn’t easy” (#1). But directly behind you can find the first of five songs with a male singer in the Top 10. German Wincent Weiß is doing very well with his chart debut “Nur einen Herzschlag entfernt” (#2, “Only a heartbeat away”). The sound is very infecting and the refrain catchy. This song is on heavy rotation in it's absolutely possible that “Nur einen Herzschlag entfernt” is taken over by next week. This would be the 2nd song by a solo male artist hitting #1 on my chart in 2017. If you count Mighty Oak’s “Be with you always” (#4) and Coin’s “Talk too much” (#43) then “Nur einen Herzschlag entfernt” could be the fourth song with a male singer topping my chart this year. Probably this could mark a turnaround, but I don’t think that this is a trend in the long run. Completing the Top 3 is chart hero Leslie Clio. Her latest single “And I’m leaving” (#3) is continuing her run with her “Eureka” album. Still “And I’m leaving” isn’t her only song in my Top 5. The other one is “Darkness is a filler” (#5) which dropped one spot.

R&B isn’t my favourite kind of music, but with Tinashe this special kind of music can now be found in my Top 10. After several minor hits as “Hands on deck” she reached my Top 10 for the first time with “Flame” (#6) last week. This week Tinashe climbed up four spots and now she is in reach of my Top 5. Bouncing back is Ed Sheeran with “Shape of you” (#7). Last week it seemed that his Top 10 run could end, but this week he climbed up one spot and so “Shape of you” got another week in my Top 10. Directly behind “Shape of you” there is the only new song in my Top 10. It is “Ist jemand da” (#8, “Is someone there”) by Adel Tawil. This is the first Top 10 hit for Adel Tawil. For me he had his biggest hits with Ich + Ich in a phase when I had no chart. On their way out of the Top 10 are Cold War Kids with “Love is mystical” (#9) and MisterWives with “Machine” (#10).

My Top 10 is getting younger in the last two weeks, but there are still songs which could carry on this trend. Among this handful songs is surely “Hard love” (#13) by Needtobreath feat. Andra Day. This song is so energetic that I’m sure that it is only a matter of time when this song is getting its Top 10 debut which would be by the way the first one for Needtobreath and Andra Day. Also in a top position is another song by Cold War Kids. Their 2nd single “Can we hang on” (#17) climbed up eight spots and is now in my Top 20. But both songs are nothing against this week’s greatest gainer. Last week Canadian Shawn Mendes debuted with his latest single “There’s nothing holdin’ me back” (#18). This week this masterpiece sprinted up 18 spots and I’m sure that the other songs can’t prevent him for reaching my Top 10 by next week. “There is nothing holdin’ me back” has an infectious sound and a very catchy refrain as “Nur ein Herzschlag entfernt” which is in reach for #1. This indicates that Shawn Mendes could get his first Top 10 hit and much more.

The highest debut is by Lady Gaga. Recently she had a Top 10 hit with “Million reasons” which dropped out this week, but with “The cure” (#26) she has a massive debut. When I first listened to this song I thought “This is nothing for me” and so I gave “The cure” only a short preview. But nevertheless there was something with this song which leads me to the point that I gave it another listen. This time I gave the song the full run and I didn’t regret it. Easily “The cure” is getting more and more airplay and so this song is now the highest debut in this edition.

Also getting a very good debut is Lana Del Rey. Some weeks ago she returned to my Top 10 with the first single “Love” (#23) from her upcoming album “Lust for life”. This week Lana Del Rey returns with a very strong song and the title track to this new album. “Lust for life” (#35) is quite the opposition of “Born to die” (which had been a Top 10 hit back in 2012). The song is a duet with Canadian singer The Weeknd. The Weeknd had several hits since his hit “Love me harder” (peaked #13 back in 2015), but on my chart this song had been his only entry before he teamed up with Lana Del Rey for “Lust for life”. This song is dripping with slop, but I like this song and I’m sure that “Lust for life” is a future Top 10 hit for me.

Week 324 – May 13^th, 2017

The fast changes on my top spot are continuing. This week another solo male artist took over. German singer Wincent Weiss got his first #1 with “Nur einen Herzschlag entfernt” (“Only a heartbeat away”). Wincent Weiss is the 2nd solo male artist with a #1 on my chart in 2017 and the first from Germany since Cro reached #1 with “Bye bye” in September 2015. “Wasn’t easy” (#2) only spent two weeks at the top, but GJan is still among my top songs. Maybe she is going back up in the future, but I know my chart and this is a rare event and so I doubt that she will return to #1 with “Wasn’t easy”. Still at #3 is “And I’m leaving” by Leslie Clio. Next week she will finally release her new album “Purple”. This should give “And I’m leaving” the next push in the direction to my #1. The other non mover in my Top 5 is “Be with you always” (#4) by Mighty Oaks. This folk pop song should definitely get more attention, but I’m charting this song since 13 weeks and there is still no chart appearance in Germany, Switzerland and Austria in sight.

In this edition of my chart you can find two new songs in my Top 10. The highest one of these two songs is by Canadian singer Shawn Mendes. Last week “There’s nothing holdin’ me back” (#5) had been at #18. This week his latest single sprinted up 13 spots. Therefore he got his first Top 10 hit on my chart and his first Top 5 hit too. “There’s nothing holdin’ me back” is pretty catchy and it is definitely his best song so far. As I’m normally not into songs interpreted by male artists it is a complement for Shawn Mendes that I believe that he could reach #1. The other Top 10 debut goes to Needtobreathe and Andra Day. Their single “Hard love” (#9) climbed up four spots and brings them their Top 10 debut.

Last week “Flame” (#6) by Tinashe knocked at the door to my Top 5, but until now I refused the entry. I really like this song, but in my eyes the songs in my Top 5 are a little bit too strong for this song at the moment. “Flame” is followed by “Ist da jemand” (#7, “Is someone there”). Adel Tawil is doing well with this thought-provoking song. Down three spots is “Darkness is a filler” (#8) by Leslie Clio. I doubt that “Darkness is a filler” is getting the same push as “And I’m leaving” when this album gets released, but this song is still good. And last but not least to mention is that Ed Sheeran is still in the Top 10 with “Shape of you” (#10).

The greatest gainer of the week is “Hard times” (#32) by Paramore. “Hard times” climbed up 17 spots and can now be found in my Top 40. This song isn’t the only song by them which I’m charting right now. Their 2nd single “Told you so” (#77) from their new album “After laughter” got its debut with this edition. I’m expecting a lot from “Told you so” and I hope that this song will meet my expectations, but as always I’ll be foxier in the future. “Told you so” brings me to this week’s debuts. There are ten new songs on my chart. The highest debut is by country singer Maren Morris. Actually she has a big crossover hit with “Craving you” (#31). Here she is only featured, but with “I could use a love song” (#62) she is returning as a solo artist. So far I charted “My church” (peaked #94) and “80’s Mercedes” (peaked at #31) from her. “I could use a love song” has the potential to outperform these songs and should soon seen in my Top 50.

Week 325 – May 20^th, 2017

It had been a rather calm week. If you’re looking for action then I’ve to disappoint you. There are some position changes and the highest debut can only be found outside the Top 70. But first things first. German Wincent Weiss is defending his top position with “Nur ein Herzschlag entfernt” (#1, “Only a heartbeat away”). This week he is leading in front of Leslie Clio. The album release pushed her single “And I’m leaving” (#2) up one spot and another #1 by her is absolutely in reach. While Leslie Clio climbed up former #1 “Wasn’t easy” (#3) by GJan dropped one spot. Also up one spot are the next two songs in line. Canadian singer Shawn Mendes is now only one spot away from a first Top 3 hit on my chart with his catchy “There’s nothing holdin’ me back” (#4). Also up one spot is the biggest R&B hit on my chart at the moment. For Tinashe “Flame” (#5) is her first hit in my Top 5.

Shawn Mendes and Tinashe are pushing Mighty Oaks back. Their song “Be with you always” (#6) dropped two spots and is beside Leslie Clio’s 2nd Top 10 hit “Darkness is a filler” (#10) the greatest dropper in this week’s edition. Between Adel Tawil’s “Ist da jemand” (“Is someone there”) and “Hard love” (#9) by Needtobreathe feat. Andra Day the only Top 10 debut can be found. It is by Cold War Kids. Their song “Can we hang on?” (#8) is the bands 2nd Top 10 hit from “LA Divine”.

As a matter of fact that there are merely debuts within the Top spots of my chart the rest of the review is very short. The greatest gainer of the week is “Rise” (#40) by Selena Gomez which climbed up 11 spots in its 8th week on chart. The highest debut is by my favourite artist Anouk. I finally debut the promotional single and the first two official singles from her latest album “Fake it till we die”. As I pointed out in the past this album isn’t as good as “Queen for a day”, but it is better than expected. The highest out of three debuts is “Burn” (#73) followed by “I just met a man” (#74). Then there is “Down Daddy down” (#98) which I don’t now why she has a song like this in her repertoire. This song is definitely not her best work and so you should not wonder when this song leaves my chart by next week.

Other debuts are “Hot2Touch” (#81) by Felix Jaehn, Hight & Alex Aiono, “Ex” (#87) by James TW, “Can’t stop thinking about you” (#88) by Heterogenius – I discovered this band when this song was played on the Netflix show “Las Chicas Del Cable”, but I didn’t find out anything about this project and so feel free to give me some information like the country where this project is from –, “Salt” (#92) by B.Miles, “Slow hands” (#93) by Niall Horan and “Good life” (#94) by Sweet California.
