Week 292 – October 1^st, 2016

Anouk had a fresh start with three debuts in last weeks edition. Two of her songs topped the chart and two were in the pipeline. This week she proves that she is on fire. Now she is topping the chart with three songs. This had only been once before exactly five years ago on October 1st 2011 when Anouk had the chart topping triple for a first time with “What have you done” (fourth week at the top of five weeks) at the top followed by “Save me” (#1 for one week) and “Ms. Crazy” (#1 for one week). These three songs built the Top 3 for three weeks. This time her triple pack could last even longer. “If I knew” (#1) is holding the top spot for a 2nd time. Former #1 “Wanna little something” (#2 and #1 for four weeks) is still in the runner’s-up position. New at the podium is “Not a lovesong” (#3) which climbed up six spots to complete the triple. Only one artist was ready to prevent the quadruple. Selena Gomez did her best with “Sober” (#6) to hamper this event in Edition 292. It's only a pleasure deferred! Anouk’s “Be my baby” debuted outside the Top 10 and this week it rose up with a climb of six spots to complete the Top 5 with four songs by Anouk in it.

At the moment Selena Gomez is leading the “Best of the rest” with “Sober” which is the only song not by Anouk in the top part of the Top 10. The lower part is opened by Swedish singer Miriam Bryant. Her first chart topping song “Black car” (#6) dropped three spots. “Black car” is followed by another #1 hit. “F*ck apologies” (#7) by JoJo feat. Wiz Khalifa also dropped three spots. And for a third “Love somebody” (#8) by Aura Dione dropped three positions. “Love somebody” isn’t the last three spots dropper in this part. “Facciamola più semplice” (#10, “Make it easier”) did the same and is now rounding out the Top 10. Caught between these droppers is the only new song in the lower section. German singer Nicole Cross is performing well with her first single “Awesome” (#15). In its third week on chart “Awesome” climbed up six spots.

Last week is surely an exception as regards the number of high debuts. So don’t be disappointed with this week’s highest debut which can be found outside the Top 30. It is by former Spice Girl Melanie C. Over the last years she had rarely released new music. Back in 2013 she reached the Top 10 with her Matt Cardle duet “Loving you” (peaked at #9). This is her only significant success on my chart since re-starting. “Anymore” (#38) outperformed all of her other charting songs and is ready for a much higher peak. The only other debut within the Top 50 is by Maty Noyes. She is best known for singing on the Kygo track “Stay” which had been a Top 10 hit in the UK. Now she released her debut solo single. “In my mind” (#50) performed solid and so she earns her first Top 50 hit on my chart.

Anouk is still the Queen of my chart and not for a day as the album title suggest. "If I knew" is her 12th #1 on my chart and it's absolutely possible that "Not a lovesong" and of course "Be my baby" will reach the #1 too. Maybe there is time for the Selena Gomez hit "Sober" to reach #1, but it will be hard for this beautiful song.

"Awesome" is really cute and I love the refrain especially the part "Everything I do is awesome!" which by the way reminds me to the Lego Movie title song.

The first time I heard 'Awesome', I was blown away.  Just so SO good.  I'm sure it'll be a Top 10 hit for me.

Week 293 – October 8^th, 2016

The excitement about Anouk’s debut has settled. Now she is dominating my chart for a third week and a 2nd week in a row with a triple pack. Still leading the pack is “If I knew” (#1) followed by “Wanna little something” (#2). Together these songs spent six weeks at the top. This brings Anouk up to 25 % of the weeks topping my chart this year. “Not a lovesong” (#3) is completing the Top 5. The first of the rest is still Selena Gomez with her beautiful “Sober” (#4). For a 2nd week “Sober” is caught between four songs by Anouk. The only Anouk song within the Top 10 she is leaving behind is “Be my baby” (#5).

While the whole Top 5 is the same as last week in the 2nd part of the Top 10 only one song could hold its position. It is former #1 “Black car” (#6) by Miriam Bryant. This song is followed by the super catchy “Awesome” (#7). For German Nicole Cross “Awesome” is maybe the start of a good carrier on my chart while “Awesome” is at the moment an overseen pearl in Germany, Switzerland and of course Austria. Down one spot are “F*ck apologies” (#8) by JoJo feat. Wiz Khalifa and “Love somebody” (#9) by Aura Dione. The Top 10 is closed with the only new song in this section. US country star Cam is returning with her latest album cut from her debut album “Untamed”. The title track “Untamed” (#10) climbed up five spots to reach a Top 10 spot for the first time in its 8th week on chart.

Since this week Aura Dione isn’t the only act from Denmark on my chart. Maia released her debut single “Tordenkys” (#39, “Thunder kiss”) and finally this song is debuting on my chart. It got a solid debut within the Top 40 which is by the way the only debut within the Top 50. “Tordenkys” is a catchy song which could do well in English too. As most of the top songs on my chart are a little bit older at the moment “Tordenkys” could reach the Top 20.

Other debuts are “Adesso (ti voglio bene)” (#71, “Now (I love you)”) and “In viaggio” (#72, “Travelling”) by Emma, “Hurts” (#81) by Emeli Sandé, “By my side” (#88) by Tim Maxx feat. Mike Rossi, “Fire” (#89) by Runaway Angel and “Come around” (#96) by Daniela Andrade.

Week 294 – October 15^th, 2016

How should I describe this week’s edition with one word? Let’s take stability. Anouk’s chart domination position is carved in stone. Since several weeks she is topping my chart. First with “Wanna little something” (#2) and now with “If I knew” (#1). “If I knew” is maybe the saddest song ever topping my chart. Last week the husband of a college died after a capital operation and Anouk’s song got an emotional boost. Anouk’s triple at the top is complete with “Not a lovesong” (#3). For a third week in a row Selana Gomez is caught between Anouk with “Sober” (#4). The fourth Anouk hit in the Top 5 is “Be my baby” (#5). By the way I’ve listened to Anouk’s promotional single and her 1st official single for her upcoming album. In my eyes these songs are far away from her “Queen for a day” standards. When I thought that she had found the turnaround with this album she is now going two steps back with her upcoming one. Although I hope the rest of the songs of this album will be better. Therefore I decided not to chart the songs from “Fake it till we die” until the last song of her nearly perfect album “Queen for a day” charted.

The 2nd part of my Top 10 is Anouk free. German singer Nicole Cross is opening this part with her super awesome song “Awesome” (#6). This song would be definitely a hymn for all the girls who have dated Barney Stinson. I loved this series. Next in line is Miriam Bryant. Her former #1 “Black car” (#7) dropped one spot while the other former #1 “F*ck apologies” (#8) by JoJo feat. Wiz Khalifa was stable. New in this part is Tove Lo. Her first single “Cool girl” (#9) from her 2nd album “Lady wood” climbed up four spots. The Top 10 is rounded out with Cam’s “Untamed” (#10).

Eleven songs got their debut. The highest debut is by Carly Rae Jepsen. The first single from “Emotion Side B” is “First time” (#74). The song debuted outside the Top 70, but I’m sure that this song will enter the Top 50 in a very short time. The 2nd highest debut is by Australian singer Delta Goodrem over the years she had some success with her singles, but none of the songs I charted since 2011 did as well as “Lost without you” which was a hit in Austria back in 2004. This week her latest single “The river” (#84) made its debut.

Other debuts are “Laufen” (#87, “Run”) and “1973” (#94) by Tagtraeumer, “Secrets” (#88) by Wild Wild Horses, “Keep dreaming” (#89) by Hedegaard feat. Stine Bramsen, “Fool’s paradise” (#90) by XYLØ, “When we were lovers” (#95) by Jack Savoretti, “For her” (#96) by Chris Lane, “Rebound” (#97) by Drew Baldridge and “Get out” (#99) by AOA which had been released back in 2012 as a regular single.

Week 295 – October 22^nd, 2016

For those who are following my chart there will be no surprise at the top of my personal favourites. It’s still all about Anouk. For a 5th week “If I knew” (#1) is topping my chart. And since weeks “Wanna little something” (#2) is breaking the record for sitting at #2. This week this song stays at #2 for an 8th week in a row. Without having “If I knew” - and of course Tove Lo feat. Wiz Khalifa and Miriam Bryant - at the Top “Wanna little something” could have spent an amazing 12 weeks at the Top – which would have been by the way a new record –, but so “Wanna little something” topped the chart for only four weeks. The podium is completed with “Not a lovesong”. You wanna know where Selena Gomez is in this week’s edition? The answer is simple. “Sober” (#4) is holding its spot and is now caught between the Anouk songs for a 4th week. The Top 5 is closed with “Be my baby” (#5) the last but not least Anouk song in this part of my chart.

“Aweseome” (#6) by Nicole Cross and “Black car” (#7) by Miriam Bryant also didn’t move in this edition. Now I can write something about the only new song in my Top 10 in this edition. It is by the well known artist Adele. “Love in the dark” (#8) climbed up three spots is giving her another Top 10 hit from “25”. While “Cool girl” (#9) by Tove Lo is another song which is stable this week “F*ck apologies” (#8) by JoJo feat. Wiz Khalifa is dropping two spots.

The highest new entry is by an American rock band from Florida. Their biggest hit had been “Second chance” which had been massive for me in the area when I had no personal chart. Since 2011 Shinedown only charted two times. Their first appearance had been with “Unity” and their second with “I’ll follow you”. But both songs had low peaks for me. With their latest single from “Threat to survival” they returned very strong. “How did you love?” (#27) is the kind of song I always liked to listen and if you are following my chart since 2011 you’ll know that there is a chance for them to reach my Top 10. The start is good and because of the fact that most of the songs in my Top 20 are a little bit older than usually they should do well with this song.

Week 296 – October 29^th, 2016

Tomorrow is Halloween, but you’ve not to be scared of my chart. Anouk is still the Queen of it and dominates with four songs within the Top 5. On the other hand only one of her songs is holding its spot in this edition. Of course it is “If I knew” (#1) which is now reigning for six weeks. New at #2 is “Not a lovesong” which climbed up one spot. Climbing up two spots is “Be my baby” (#3). So former #1 and record holder for staying at #2 “Wanna little something” dropped all the way down to #5. I’m sure that you’ll know where “Sober” can be found. Here is my answer: Selena Gomez’s “Sober” is still at #4 and so Selena Gomez is leading the best of the rest.

The Top 5 is mixed up and so the bottom of the Top 10 is too. Two songs held their position. The first one is “Awesome” (#6) by Nicole Cross. The other one is “F*ck apologies” (#10) by JoJo feat. Wiz Khalifa. Between these songs two songs climbed up and one dropped. The dropper is the former #1 “Black car” (#9) by Miriam Bryant. Adele’s smash “Love in the dark” (#7) climbed up one spot. Also one up is Tove Lo’s “Cool girl” (#8)

Candidates for my Top 10 are rare. To mention is “Awesome” (#15) by Melanie C which rose four spots. The only other song in the Top 20 with chances to enter the Top 10 is “Tordenkys” (#20) by Danish singer Maia. For others it is harder to predict, but I’m sure that some of these songs as “How did you love” (#21) by Shinedown have the potential to reach these spheres. The same for Kelly Clarkson’s “Nostalgic” (#36). This song is the greatest gainer of the week and climbed up 12 spots.

This week sees no new entry within the Top 50. The highest debut is by British girl band Little Mix. They hardly produced hits for me and so “Shout out to my ex” (#57) is the first charting hit for them in a while. Canadian band Marianas Trench is also more known for being not on my chart than to produce notable chart. This week they entered my chart with “Who do you love” (#59). The next new entries is from the Empire Season 1 soundtrack. Last week I finally watched the first season of this TV Series. Last year I programmed the wrong time so I missed the show. I like this series, but it was a little bit too much drama at the end. Some of the songs presented are good. Most of them are R&B, because Hip Hop isn’t mine. So you can find “Good enough” (#60) by Jussi Smollett and “What is love” (#89) by V. Bozeman.

Other new entries are “Dirty laundry” (#61) and “Choctaw County affair” (#62) by Carrie Underwood, “Fighting for love” (#81) by Dami Im, “Yeah boy” (#82) by Kelsea Ballerini, “Rockabye” (#90) by Clean Bandit feat. Week 297 – November 5^th, 2016

This week you can focus on the all the important things. November is coming and as the lakes do at this time when the weather is playing along nearly the complete Top 10 of mine is frozen. I know for sure that Anouk is dominating and none of the rest is able to compete. “If I knew” is now in its 7th week on the top which is a new record for Anouk. Her 2014 smash “I won’t play that game (live)” only spent six weeks at the top. From now on “If I knew” is hunting “Receive” by Alanis Morissette which spent 10 weeks on top in two runs and “L’amore non mi basta” (“Love is not enough for me”) by Emma which spent nine week at the top. On the other hand her songs “Not a lovesong” (#2) and “Be my baby” (#3) aren’t as far away as in the last weeks, but I think “If I knew” will lead my chart at least for one more week. Still caught between is “Sober” (#4) by Selena Gomez. It is amazing that this song is holding of one Anouk song and preventing me for writing chart history with four songs by one artist in the Top 4. Anouk’s former #1 “Wanna little something” (#5) is completing the Top 5.

So you read that none of my Top 5 is moving up or down. The same happens to the spots 6 to 9. Although “Awesome” (#6) by German singer Nicole Cross is awesome this song had no fortune to blow up the Top 5 domination. Nicole Croos is followed by core artist Adele. This year Adele had big hits with “Hello”, “Water under the bridge” (#48) and “When we were young”. “Love in the dark” (#7) is following the beaten track of her songs, but at the moment Anouk is too strong the reach one more #1. Tove Lo had a good week with several new entries and so it is no problem that “Cool girl” (#8) is holding its position. There is also no position change for Miriam Bryants "Black car" (#9). The only new song within the Top 10 can be found at #10. It is Melanie C with her latest single “Anymore” (#10).

For next week four songs are fighting for I think two spots in my Top 10. Danish single “Tordenkys” (#12, “Thunder kiss”) by newcomer Maia climbed up eight spots. This dance song is followed by a rock ballad. Shinedown climbed up the chart with their new one “How did you love?” (#13). Back in the Top 10 race is Leslie Clio. Do you remember her? Last year she dominated with “My heart ain’t that broken”. This year she did it with “Damage done”. Is “Remedy” (#14) her next big chart hit? I’m not sure, but there is a good chance to see her leading the rest in a few weeks. Another chart hero is climbing up my chart very fast. Last week “Nostalgic” (#15) was the greatest gainer of the week and this week Kelly Clarkson did it again. After climbing up 21 spots she is in the middle of the race.

You may now ask where you can find the highest new entry. Not in the Top 50, but the highest debut is by a well known artist. Kate Voegele is back with the first new track from her new album “Canyonlands”. Over the last years I charted nearly every song by her when I could buy the song or the album/EP. So there was no doubt that her new track “Free & wild” (#58) will debut on my chart too. Kate Voegele changed her style a little bit from her last album “Gravity happens”, but “Free & wild” is a good song. The start is expandable, but in the next week she should return to her normal standards.

Other new entries are “Over” (#77), “Paradise” (#78) and “Out of mind” (#79) by Tove Lo, “Talk too much” (#85) by Coin, “Stand by me” (#89) by Alex D’Rosso, “How far I’ll go” (#91) by Alessia Cara, “Keep it moving” (#92) by Alex Newell and “Holy war” (#99) by Alicia Keys.

Week 298 – November 12^th, 2016

At the moment when I review my chart I only have to point out that Anouk is still leading with four songs and that Selena Gomez is caught in between. This week is no difference. “If I knew” (#1) is topping my chart for an eight consecutive week. For a third week “Not a lovesong” (#2) is hanging at the runner’s-up position and this song is followed by “Be my baby” (#3). You see? There is no chance for a change. Maybe someone is asking where Selena Gomez can be found with “Sober”. The answer is the same as last week, as the week before and before and before … . “Sober” is caught at #4. This song is still splitting the Anouk pack, because “Wanna little something” is at #5.

Beside the non-moving Top 5 there are some more non-movers in my Top 10. These are “Awesome” (#6) by Nicole Cross and “Love in the dark” (#7) by Adele. Finally there is some action in my Top 10. Directly behind all these non-movers a new song can be found. It is an album cut from Leslie Clio’s album “Eureka”. “Remedy” (#8) climbed up six spots in its 7th week on chart for reaching this part. Last week “Anymore” (#9) by Melanie C entered the Top 10 and this week it climbed up one spot. The final spot goes to “Tordenkys” (#10, “Thunder kiss”) by Maia. Danish newcomer Maia has released with her Danish song about a thunder kiss an absolutely cool song with a catchy refrain although I don’t understand a single word. “Tordenkys” is the first song in Danish reaching my Top 10.

Heavily knocking at the door to the Top 10 are two songs I mentioned last week. The first is the rock ballad “How did you love?” (#11) by Shinedown. The 2nd one is Kelly Clarkson’s album cut “Nostalgic” (#12). Both should soon enter the Top 10. Also doing well are some songs with outside chances. Club banger “Sexual” (#16) by Neiked climbed up three spots in its 9th week on chart. Do you remember where “In my blood” (#17) by The Veronicas started? Yes, they debuted outside the Top 90 and now they reached the Top 20 with a climb of four spots. Another song which reached the Top 20 very late is the country song “Road less travelled” (#19) by Lauren Alaina. In its 9th week it climbed 12 spots to do so well. Between these last two songs I pointed out is German band Glasperlenspiel with their latest single “Für immer” (#18, “For always”) which rose up eight spots.

The highest two new entries are by a K-Pop girl band. I first noticed them when they released the double single “Square one” with “Whistle” and “Boombayah” (#44). This week they came back with their next double single “Square two”. “Whistle” and “Boombayah” are very distinctive. Their highest debut is “Playing with fire” (#39) which is more dance oriented in the direction to “Boombayah”, but possibly the last kick is missing. On the other hand it is another catchy song by them. The other one is “Stay” (#40). This song is more a K-Pop ballad which I’m normally not a fan of, but “Stay” is catchy. With its “Lalalalalala” and the melodic it is growing more and more for me which I never thought when I first listened to this song. The next weeks will show if these songs are able to outperform “Boombayah”, but everything is possible.

Bonnie McKee missed a Top 50 debut by one spot. She had only one chart entry with “American girl” some years ago. Her singles from her “Boombastic EP” disappointed, so I wasn’t sure to give her new one – also from this EP – a change. I didn’t regret it. “Easy” (#51) is very good song with 90’s vibes, but not from the Eurodance songs I listed too in this part of my life as a teenager. I love this song and it should do well for her. Next debut in line is from the TV series “Empire”. Serayah McNeill is portraying R&B singer Tiana Brown. Her single in this show “Adios” (#55) is interesting and got a solid debut. The last debut in the Top 60 is by Alex Da Kid and some more chart proven artists. “Not easy” (#60) hasn’t so many lyrics so it is easy to understand for non-native speakers. I like the sound of this song and so it got a solid debut.

Other new songs which can be found in this edition are “Ain’t love strange” (#62) by Stanaj, “Runaway train” (#81) and “Half broke heart” (#82) by Cam, “Mit jedem Takt” (#83, “With every beat”) by Fräulein Mai, “Bad girl” (#85) by Serayah McNeill & V. Bozeman, “Vivienne” (#86) by Sundara Karma, “Wake up where you are” (#95) by State Of Sound and “I’ll be there” (#97) by Evelina Young.

Week 299 – November 19^th, 2016

One week to go and I can celebrate the 300th edition of my chart. What a long time, but back to this week’s edition. After an eight week strike at the Top “If I knew” (#3) has to renounce the throne of my chart with a drop of two spots. I think that it was time to let this sad song go. On the other had will this stop the domination by Anouk? The answer is still no. The song in the waiting position “Not a lovesong” (#1) reacted with a one spot climb to #1 and because “Be my baby” (#2) also climbed up you still can find an Anouk triple reigning. Once more “Sober” (#4) – the hidden #1 – by Selena Gomez is holding its spot between the Anouk song. Anouk’s last but not least song in the Top 5 is once again “Wanna little something”. Since months Anouk is dominating, but will this lead to a year-end chart written Anouk all over it? The answer will be given in a few weeks.

Nicole Cross tried again to reach the Top 5 with “Awesome” (#6), but failed. Behind this song is “Remedy” (#7) by Leslie Clio which climbed up one spot. Two spots up is Danish song “Tordenkys” (#8, “Thunder kiss”) by Maia. The other two songs in this part of my Top 10 are droppers. First to mention is Adele’s “Love in the dark” (#9) with a drop of two spots. Then there is former Spice Girl Melanie C with “Anymore” (#10) which dropped one spot.

Outside the Top 10 two songs are still waiting for reaching this part. In a very good position since several weeks is “How did you love?” (#11) by Shinedown. And then there is “Nostalgic” (#12) by Kelly Clarkson. Both songs should be the first choices if there is a change in the Top 10. On the other hand you should not forget about German band Glasperlenspiel. Their latest single “Für immer” (#16, “For always”) isn’t far behind and as it is the bands most successful song on my chart a Top 10 entry is absolutely reachable. Also doing well is Carly Rae Jepsen. “First time” (#17) climbed up three spots and is now among the contenders.

Before I write some short notes about this week’s highest new entry I’ve to point out that US indie pop band Coin is rocking this week’s edition with their 2nd single “Talk too much” (#42). With a climb of 37 spots it reached the Top 50 in its 3rd week on chart. This week I caught myself singing this song along when I drove to work. Thank god nobody else was in the car, so that no one noticed my false singing. I love the catchy refrain and so I think “Talk too much” will reach my Top 20 very soon.

So enough about the greatest gainer of the week and let’s have closer look at the highest new entry. This week only four songs gave their debut and two of these songs are album cuts of Selena Gomez album “Revival”. The highest debut is “Surviviors” (#79) followed by “Body heat” (#80). Both songs are no “Sober” (#4) or “My heart wants what it wants”, but as her other songs were at least Top 30 hits these two songs should also climb up. The other new songs are “I would like” (#94) by Zara Larsson and “Paradise” (#95) by Hyolyn.
