Week 279 – July 2^nd, 2016

Last week Anouk scored her 1st #1 in 2016 and this week she defended this position with “Run away together” (#1). “Run away together” had been the only song within the Top 10 which didn’t changed its spot. It seems that I got them all to a shaker to put them on another spot. The #1 didn’t move, but for Anouk there is new concurrence behind at the podium. Adele who scored two #1#s from her album “25” reached the runners-up position with “Water under the bridge” (#2). While country pop “Church bells” (#4) by Carrie Underwood dropped out of the Top 3 another country song reached my Top 3. It is “Hungover on heartache” (#3) by Cam. This song climbed up two spots in its 11th week. Sure it isn’t really realistic that Cam will reach #1 because of the fact that most of the songs reach #1 below its 10th week on chart you should have this song still on your list. At the bottom of the Top 5 Austrian star Christina Stürmer can be found with “Seite an Seite” (#5, “Side by side”).

The 2nd part of my Top 10 is opened with a Selena Gomez double pack. “Kill em with kindness” (#6) climbed up one spot while “Me & the rhythm” (#7) climbed up two spot after it looked like this song won’t be in this week’s Top 10. This double pack is followed by Grace’s first Top 10 hit “Hell of a girl” (#8). And then we’ve one of the best songs in German of 2016. “Bis es weh tut” (#9) by Luxuslärm feat. Max Mutzke dropped three spots. Although this song is on its way out of the top songs of my chart I still love this beautiful duet. It is really sad that this song is mostly overseen. Last but not least in the Top 10 is the only new song in this section. It is by the well known artist Kate Voegele. Her summer song “Must be summertime” (#10) climbed up one spots and now she can celebrate her 13th Top 10 hit.

The greatest gainer of the week is the cover of the 80’s classic “The boys of summer” (#30) by LOLO. I’m really getting more and more into this cover version and I hope that this song will reach my Top 20. In general edition 279 is one of these weeks which didn’t see a Top 50 debut. The highest debut is by Korean girl band Sistar. Their latest single “I like that” (#57) is a good K-Pop song, but not more. Over the last one and a half year most of the K-Pop songs stranded somewhere low of my chart and I’m not sure if this song will change this little weakness of these songs. For “I like that” it is possible to reach my Top 30, but the Top 20 or more? I don’t know at the moment, but as always we all we see in the future.

Week 280 – July 9^th, 2016

With Friday school closed the doors for nine weeks and it had been a relatively calm week for my chart. Only five songs gave their debut and within the Top 10 you can’t find new songs. Let’s put first things first and start with my Top 10 in the 2nd week of July. Still at #1 is Anouk. Her single “Run away together” (#1) is holding of for another week Adele’s beautiful song “Water under the bridge” (#2). Both a rather new with seven or eight weeks on chart so that there isn’t really a danger of taking over by Cam. Her album cut “Hungover on heartache” (#3) is completing the podium in its 12th week on chart. The next two songs switched their positions. Austrian star Christina Stürmer is now at #4 with her former #1 “Seite an Seite” (#4, “Side by side”) while Carrie Underwood’s “Church bells” (#5) dropped one spot.

In the lower part of my Top 10 there had been more action. Kate Voegele’s catchy summer song “Must be summertime” (#6) sprinted up four spots to knock at the door to the Top 5. There is a very good chance for her to enter this part by next week. Also doing well this week is Aussie girl Grace. Her song “Hell of a girl” (#7) climbed up two spots. It is also possible for her to reach the Top 5. For the rest of my Top 10 the Top 5 won’t be able to reach in the future, I think. Selena Gomez lost the spirit and dropped with both of her songs in my Top 10. “Kill em with kindness” (#8) and “Me & the rhythm” (#9) dropped two spots. Not giving up is the German duet “Bis es weh tut” (#10, “Until it hurts”) by Luxuslärm feat. Max Mutzke. They are now in their 18th week on chart and they didn’t dropped out of my Top 10 as predicted last week.

Last week I welcomed Korean girl band Sistar with “I like that” (#53) as the highest debut. This week the highest debut also goes to Korea. Girl’s Generation leading singer Taeyeon released two singles of her upcoming album “Why” at once. The title trick “Why” (#45) is now her first single which reached my chart. In my opinion “Why” is a little bit more orientated to the EDM than to K-Pop. It is a good song and "Why" let last weeks K-Pop debut “I like that” behind. For both “Why” and “I like that” I see a good future on my chart, but who high these songs would climb I couldn’t predict at the moment.

The 2nd best new entry is by a band called Joseph. Try not to be confused by the bands name. Jospeh are an US Indie girl pop band formed by the sisters Allison, Meegan, and Natalie Closner. Their band is named after the little Oregon town “Joseph”. Their lead single of their 2nd album “I’m alone, you’re not” is “White flag” (#60). I love the intro to this song and the refrain with the “You” is absolutely catchy. Sure this song debuted outside the Top 50, but I enjoy every listen to this song and I feel that they could do very well on my chart. Other new songs are the album cuts “Erinnerungen” (#83, “Memories”) and “Happy End” (#84) by Tagtraeumer and the German-Canadian collaboration “Cold in California” (#90) by Marcus Layton feat. JRDN.

Week 281 – July 16^th, 2016

For the 2nd time in history my chart sees 20 new entries. This is quite a lot if you’ve the last months in your mind with several weeks with fewer than eight new entries. So this week’s edition is jarred, but the Top 10 looks nearly similar to last week. After three weeks Anouk had to leave the top spot with “Run away together” (#2). For her another female artist – as most in of the 281 weeks in the past – took over. Adele grabbed her 3rd #1 from “25” with “Water under the bridge” (#1). New at the podium is the well known artist Kate Voegele. Her latest single “Must be summertime” (#3) climbed up three spots and is now in reach for #1. After peaking at #3 Cam’s “Hungover on heartache” (#4) dropped one spot which also did Christina Stürmer’s “Seite an Seite” (#5, “Side by side”).

Carrie Underwood is now outside the Top 5 with her former #1 “Church bells” (#6). Sure she dropped one spot but there is a chance that she could be in this part of the chart in the next weeks too. Than there is Grace. Her song “Hell of a girl” (#7) is the only non-mover in the Top 10. From now on the rest of the Top 10 are new to this part. Let’s start with Cassadee Pope. She returned with “Summer” (#8) after a longer absence to my Top 10. With this song I’ve now two songs with “Summer” in the title in my Top 10 and a third “The boys of summer” (#15) the cover version by LOLO is on its way. Also new is the latest Adele single “Send my love (to your new lover)” (#9) which means that all charted songs from Adele’s album “25” have now reached my Top 10. And finally Emma’s “Il paradiso non esiste” (#10, “The paradise doesn’t exist”) entered the Top 10 too.

In Sweden Miriam Bryant is a star. She had several hit singles in English and Swedish with most of these songs reaching the Top 10 in Sweden. On my chart she has every now and than a hit. Her first had been “Finders keepers” which reached #2 back 2012. Three appearances followed, but non of these songs had such a success as “Finders keepers”. Some weeks ago she released her new single “Black car” (#16). This week this song made it to my chart and it debuted directly within the Top 20. “Black car” could be her 2nd Top 10 hit and the first within four years.

Beside “Black car” there are five more new entries within the Top 50. The 2nd best new entry is the remix version of “Don’t be so shy” (#40) by Imany. Over the last weeks I gave this songs several tries, but it lasted until this edition when this song by Imany got its debut in the remix version by Russian DJ’s Filatov & Karas. Interesting fact by the way is that “Don’t be so shy” reached #1 in Austria this week. I can nearly write the same about another Top 50 debut. It lasted several weeks for Kungs remix of Cookin’ On 3 Burners song “This girl” (#48) to get its debut on my chart.

Do you remember Aura Dione? Five years ago she debuted directly at #1 in Germany and Austria with her smash “Geronimo”. On my chart “Geronimo” only peaked at #22. Five years later she dropped Dione from her stage name and released under Aura her new single “Love somebody” (#47). It is a very good song, but this song hasn’t the same impact than “Geronimo” in my home country or Germany. I like this song, but it is hard to predict to the massive number of new entries if this song will reach the Top 20. So there are two more new songs within the Top 50. The first one is by Canadian singer Alyssa Reid. She had some charting songs, but she never reached my Top 10. Her latest try is “Rollercoaster” (#49). With this song she got a solid debut. The other new song is by K-Pop girl band AOA. They finally reached my chart with “Good luck” (#50).

Other new entries are “Want you” (#60) by Bearson feat. Cal – Cal is the pseudonym for Frida Amundsen –, “80’s Mercedes” (#61) by Maren Morris, “I just wanna dance” (#88) by Tiffany, “Fly” (#90) by Jessica feat. Fabolous – try not to be confused the Jessica I charted earlier this year who was a Danish singer and here I chart US singer based in South Korea Jessica Jung –, “Show me” (#90) by O21, “Higher” (#91) by The Naked and Famous, “Only you” (#92) by miss A – this song had been a big hit in Korea back in 2015 –, “Spirits” (#93) by The Strumbellas, “Hustle” (#94) by Park Ki Ryang feat. Mechilling, “Already go lady” (#95) by Mintty, “Good to your heart” (#96) by Katerine Avgoustakis, “Let me hold you (turn me on)” (#98) by Cheat Codes & Dante Klein, “L.I.E” (#99) by EXID and “Outta here” (#100) by Papa Ya feat. Con Chill Bro.

Week 282 – July 23^rd, 2016

Last week Adele conquered the throne and she decided not to take a step back this week. So “Water under the brigde” (#1) got its 2nd week at the top. Generally the Top 10 is divided in two parts: The first one with no movement and the second one with movement and two new editions. Beside Adele’s “Water under the bridge” every song at the podium is still the same as last week. This brings “Run away together” (#2) a 2nd week in the ultimate position for the #1 chaser and “Must be summertime” (#3) is completing the podium once more. Also non-movers are “Hungover on heartache” (#4) by Cam and “Seite an Seite” (#5, “Side by side”) by Christina Stürmer.

Two spots up is Cassadee Pope. It seems that “Summer” (#6) is on its way to outperform her incredible heart breaking “I wish I could break your heart”. It remains to be seen how far it really goes up for this summer anthem. The 3rd country song in my Top 10 is “Church bells” (#7). The former #1 by Carrie Underwood dropped one spot and is definitely in its last breaths in the Top 10. This former #1 is followed by the two new songs in this part. Let’s start with LOLO. This young British singer had no charting success with her own songs. “The boys of summer” (#8) – the cover of the Don Henley 80’s classic – is her first hit and now her first in the Top 10 too. As you’d have noticed over the last years I’m not a great fan of covers and so it is a very good sign for reaching the Top 10. The other new song is by Miriam Bryant. Last week she debuted in the Top 20 and with a climb up of seven spots she reached the Top 10 with her hit single “Black car” (#9). “Black car” is firmly one of the freshest sounds in my actual Top 20 if you look over the amounts of weeks the other songs spent on my chart so far. So maybe “Black car” is read for #1? I don’t know, but there is a chance. The Top 10 is rounded out by Grace with “Hell of a girl” (#10).

Last week there had been eight K-Pop debuts. With this week’s debuts you can find up to 20 songs of this particular genre on my chart. To compare back in 2015 you hardly found such songs on my chart. The highest charting K-Pop song is by Sistar. Their actual single “I like that” (#22) climbed up 17 spots and should reach the Top 20 by next week. “I like that” isn’t the only of these songs in my Top 30. “I like that” is followed by Taeyeon’s “Why” (#26) which climbed up 10 spots. “Why” is followed by the highest debut. And how can it be different it is another K-Pop song. Maybe the next big K-Pop girl band are Stellar. They are trying for several years, but they had no big success so far. Neither in Korea nor on my chart. Their latest single “Cry” (#27) or “Crying” – I’m definitely not sure which is the correct English title – is a little bit more orientated to EDM as “Why” by Taeyeon also is. Right with the first listen I knew that I like this song and the theme of the song is also nice. With “Cry” they absolutely have the chance to bring K-Pop on my chart back into the Top 10. Having said this you should not forget about “Sistar” who also have a great chance to enter this part with “I like that”.

Beside these debuts you can find a massive of three re-entries which is a record on my chart. These songs are “You’re the best” (#83) by Mamamoo, “Whoo!” (#84) by Rainbow and “Someone like U” (#85) by Dal★Shabet.

Week 283 – July 30^th, 2016

Are there really reasons that you could have fewer songs about summer? I think no! This week’s edition shows again three summer songs in my Top 10, another song from Amazon’s playlist “Songs of summer” reached the Top 10 and a top debut from Austria which also has the summer in the title. The highest charting theme song is Kate Voegele’s “Must be summertime” (#2) which climbed up one spot, but failed to replace Adele’s “Water under the bridge” (#1) at #1. Also up one spot is country song “Summer” (#5) by Cassadee Pope. One more climb up by “Summer” and Cassadee Pope is matching or surpass the peak by “I wish I could break your heart”. Caught between these two summer songs are “Run away together” (#3) by Anouk and “Hungover on heartache” (#4) by Cam.

The last but not the least song about summer in this week’s Top 10 is the cover “The boys of summer” (#6). In its 8th week LOLO missed the Top 5 by one spot. I see the summer vibe in the next week’s Top 5 with three or more songs about summer. In the shadow of “The boys of summer” Swedish singer Miriam Bryant did well with a climb of two spots with her recent hit single “Black car” (#7). Not far behind is “Weekend” (#9) by The Kin. Their song has been released on “Songs of summer” and is now the third song from this Amazon playlist/album in my Top 10. While these songs climbed up two former #1’s have to drop. Austrian hit song “Seite an Seite” (#8) by Christina Stürmer dropped three spots and country song “Church bells” (#10) by Carrie Underwood – who by the way is debuting with two more songs from her album “Storyteller” – dropped three spots.

With this edition Austrian singer Julian Le Play is jumping on the train too and presents his latest single “Du schmeckst nach Sommer” (#13, “You taste of summer”). Some weeks ago he released the lyric video to this latest single, but I didn’t payed a lot of attention to this song. The reason why is simple. He hadn’t big success on my chart. Before “Du schmeckst nach Sommer” he placed five songs on my chart with “Der Wolf” (“The wolf”) peaking at #19 as his biggest hit back in 2013. It took him nearly three years to reach the Top 20 again and how! “Du schmeckst nach Sommer” debuts directly in the Top 20 at #13 and should reach my Top 10 by next week. Maybe this song has everything to go all the way to #1, but we all have to wait to see if this will happen.

For the 2nd best new entry you’ve to look outside the Top 50. Once more it is no song in English. The song I’m writing about is the latest single by German band Sportfreunde Stiller. Over the years they had some big hits in Germany and my home country including “Applaus, Applaus” (“Applause, applause”) which only peaked at #91 – maybe a little bit underrated – on my chart. Their new song “Raus in den Rausch” (#56, “Out in the rapture”) got a solid debut and is a possible Top 30 hit. “Raus in den Rausch” is followed by the next debut which came from Spanish singer Manú. Her song “Caos” (#57) is her first song her debut on my chart.

Other debuts are “What I never knew I always wanted” (#81) and “Smoke break” (#90) by Carrie Underwood, “Waun du bei mir bist” (#87, “When you’re with me”) by Lisi Dorn, “Meilenweit” (#88, “For miles”) by Vanessa Mai, “Fantasy” (#89) by Fei, “Bulletproof” (#94) by Young Guns, “Out of my system” (#97) by Youngr and “Sandcastles” (#98) by Adam Jensen.

Week 284 – August 6^th, 2016

Such things barley happen on my chart. That’s for sure! Since re-start charting only three times songs debuted at #1. The last one had been the incredible “Hello” (#69) by Adele at the end of October 2015. And before it there had been #1 entries back in 2014 (Anouk with “You & I”) and in 2012 (Cover Drive feat. Dappy with “Explode”). But there wasn’t a single week in which the top two songs haven’t been on chart in the week before. So this week is for the history books. As I was late in buying the Anouk album “Queen for a day” it is explaining why her latest single is charting later than its release. Finally “Wanna little something” (#1) got its debut. This catchy song by my favourite singer is her 2nd #1 debut and her 11th #1 following her recent #1 “Run away together” (#8) which by the way dropped out of the Top 3 this week to the bottom of my Top 10. “Wanna little something” is little bit more pop than the other songs on the album or “Run away together”. This song about to forget a bad relationship is underlining her domination over the past years.

I’ve pointed out above. The top two songs are new to my chart. While the #1 is by an artist who had several #1’s before the artist found at #2 had its last of two Top 10 hits back in October 2015 with “When love hurts” (peaked at #9). If you still know this song title than you’ll know that JoJo is back with a new release. Her biggest hit had been until today “Disaster” which peaked at #6 back in 2011. Five years after this big success on my chart she returned very strong with this more R&B oriented track. On “F*ck apologies” (#2) US-rapper Wiz Khalifa is featured. For him it is his 2nd appearance on my chart. The first had been a feature on the Maroon 5 song “Payphone” which peaked at #16 back in 2012. For me “F*ck apologies” is very catchy and the short rap parts in this song remind my to some songs of the 1990’s as it was quite common to release songs with rap parts. In the end it had been a tough decision for #1 between Anouk and JoJo feat. Wiz Khalifa.

These two new songs are now dominating, but what about my favourites by the last week of July 2016? Former #1 “Water under the bridge” (#4) by Adele dropped three spots. So this song isn’t in my Top 3. I haven’t seen that coming. Last week at #2 had been “Must be summertime” (#3) by Kate Voegele. This week her summer anthem dropped one spot and so her song is the only song of last week’s Top 3 which is still in this part of my chart. The Top 5 is rounded out with one of the most interesting songs by a Swedish act at the moment. “Black car” (#5) by Miriam Bryant is the only song within last week’s Top 10 which come through this week’s storm without blessings and climbed up two spots.

And here we are at #6. So far I’ve written that there are two new songs at the top two spots of my chart, but I shouldn’t to forget to point out that at #6 the third highest new entry can be found. Over the last weeks several K-Pop songs got there debut. Some of these songs got the highest debuts of the week including “Crying” (#14) by Stellar, “Why” (#13) by Taeyeon or “I like that” (#12) by Sistar. The common denominator by these songs is that these K-Pop songs are still outside the Top 10, but all of these mentioned have a good chance to been in my Top 10 by next week. Why I’m writing about these songs and not mention which song got is debut at #6? Because it is another K-Pop song which nearly came out of nowhere and got its Top 10 debut. Do you remember Hyuna? She had been the member of the recently disbanded girl band 4minute and she had two solo hits on my chart before. Her first had been “Ice cream” which peaked at #95 back in 2015 and than there had been “Red” which peaked at #20 back in 2014. Back in 2014 I wrote in my review when “Red” debuted:

“The sound and the Korean are more memorable than the lyrics would have deserved if you translate the song in English (or German) which makes the song more childish. In the end everything that counts is that I like the song beside good lyrics or not.”

You can definitely point this out to her new single too, beside of the childish lyrics. The lyrics aren’t as childish as in “Red”, but if you look for sense in this song you’ve to listen to other songs. “How’s this” (#6) is a real club banger. The sound is absolutely remarkable and some parts of the lyrics you can compare with Taio Cruz feat. Kylie Minogue song “Higher” which had been a big hit back in 2010/2011. I definitely like this song, but currently I can’t say if I’ll be quickly saturated by this song.

So much to the new entries within the Top 10 and now let’s go the rest of my Top 10. At #7 you find Cassadee Pope. Her song “Summer” dropped two spots. The next summer song “The boys of summer” (#9) the cover by LOLO dropped three spots. The Top 10 is rounded out with another country song by Cam. Her biggest success on my chart up-to-date “Hungover on heartache” (#10) dropped six spots this week.

Normally a song debuting within the Top 20 is reviewed as the highest debut of the week. As I pointed out this week is for the history book and so it is no normal week at all. Therefore Korbee’s single “Hey child” (#18) is getting lost in the shuffle. Behind the band Korbee are the couple Jenn Korbee and Tom Korbee. Both took part in the 8th season of American Idol. “Hey child” is their first song I’m listening too and the refrain is very catchy and the song has a great message.

Other new entries are “Me minus you” (#44) by Jerome Price, “Treat you better” (#62) by Shawn Mendes, “Cold water” (#81) by Major Lazer feat. Justin Bieber & MØ, “Closer” (#84) by The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey, “Think” (#87) by Kiso, “You & I” (#88) by Kennedi, “Bring back the summer” (#91) by Rain Man feat. Oly, “Killing me” (#92) by Ofelia K, “Geheimnis” (#98, “Secret”) by Laith Al-Deen and “Coming home” (#99) by Radistai DJs feat. Beatrich.

Week 285 – August 13^th, 2016

A week ago it seemed that I put my chart into a shaker to bring some action on board. Two songs debuted at the top of my chart and several other songs dropped more than ever expected. This week sees also a massive of 16 debuts, but most of these debuts are in the lower (or should I say lowest section) of my charts. Only one of these songs managed to reach a Top 50 debut, so it was a week to calm down. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t new songs in my Top 10, but let’s start with the general Top 10 overview.

Last week Anouk versus JoJo feat. Wiz Khalifa was the cardinal question for the #1 spot. This week this fact hasn’t changed. And for a 2nd week in a row Anouk’s “Wanna little something” (#1) won over the JoJo feat. Wiz Khalifa song “F*ck apologies” (#2). Therefore Kate Voegele’s summer anthem “Must be summertime” (#3) is sticking at #3 for a 2nd week. Behind the Top 3 Swedish singer Miriam Bryant climbed up one spot with her phenomenal “Black car” (#4). New in the Top 5 is the third highest debut from last week. “How’s this” (#5) the club banger from Korean star Hyuna did well in its 2nd week and climbed up one spot. So all three new entries from Week 284 are now in the Top 5.

The 2nd half of my Top 10 is opened with two former #1’s. First you can find Adele’s “Water under the bridge” (#6) which dropped two more spots. Then there is the 2nd best Anouk track in this countdown. “Run away together” (#7) recovered from last weeks drop and climbed up back one spot, but the Top 3 are at the moment out of reach. These former #1’s are followed by three new songs in the Top 10. This means that average amount of weeks of the top songs of my chart is now by about six weeks. Italian singer Emma returned with “Facciamola più semplice” (#8, “Make it easier”). For her this is her 16th Top 10 hit from three albums and six of these songs reached the top spot. Next in line is Julian Le Play. He reached the Top 10 for the first time in his career with “Du schmeckst nach Sommer” (#9, “You taste like summer”). The last but not least new song in this section is “Why” (#10) by Taeyeon. “Why” is her first Top 10 hit and this song is the 2nd K-Pop song in the actual Top 10.

Once more since some weeks this week’s highest debut is from Korean. This time newly formed girl band I.O.I reached their first chart appearance with their 3rd official single “Whatta man (good man)” (#45). Looking over the music chart all over the world several covers and new interpretations can be found in the last years. So let’s have a closer look on my chart. The highest cover actually is “The boys of summer” (#14) by LOLO which had been in last week’s Top 10. Then there is “This girl” (#29) by Kungs vs. Cookin’ On 3 Burners which is a remix of their 2009 song which never charted anywhere. Now there is I.O.I’s single “Whatta man (good man)” which is inspired by the 1968 classic “What a man” by Linda Lyndell and the more successful 1993 version “Whatta man” by Salt-n-Peppa with En Vogue. Around the catchy refrain they built a new song which is quite good. Maybe they reach the Top 20, but as several songs are climbed up to new peaks in their first weeks on chart it is hart to predict where this song will land.

Week 286 – August 20^th, 2016

Things calmed down a little bit. No new song in my Top 10 and within this part the big surprises can’t be found. Anouk’s latest single “Wanna little something” (#1) is holding the top spot for a third week in a row. Also for a third time JoJo feat. Wiz Khalifa are in the runner’s-up position with their song “F*ck apologies” (#2) off JoJo long awaited 3rd album “Mad love”. With a little step up Miriam Bryant reached the podium with her recent hit “Black car” (#3). In Sweden this song is now going down the chart, but the rest of Europe is still waiting for it. Also climbing up one spot is “How’s this” (#4) by Korean export Hyuna. These two songs out-compete Kate Voegele. Her summer anthem “Must be summertime” (#5) lost a little bit of its spirit and dropped two spots to the fringe of the Top 5.

The 2nd half of my Top 10 is opend with Italian star Emma. Her album cut “Facciamola più semplice” (#6, “Make it easier”) climbed up two spots and is definitely on its way into the Top 5. “Facciamola più semplice” is simple one of the best off her “Adesso”-album. Emma is followed by Adele. Her former #1 “Water under the bridge” (#7) is struggling a little bit, but it still in the Top 10. Next in line is “Why” (#8) by Korean singer Taeyeon. “Why” is her most successful solo single since embarking her solo career from Girls’ Generation. As “Water under the brigde” Anouk’s former #1 “Run away together” (#9) dropped in this week’s edition. Rounding out the Top 10 is “Du schmeckst nach Sommer” (#10, “You taste like summer”) which dropped one spot, but I don’t believe that this song will drop out of the Top 10 by next week.

The highest debut didn’t even reach my Top 50. Broods released their new single “Heartlines” (#58) some weeks ago and finally this song got its debut. The first single “Free” out off their new album “Conscious” flopped for me with peaking at #36. It seems that Broods lost its magic after reaching #1 with their first two chart appearances. “Heartlines” is a good song and it will definitely be interesting to see where this song is peaking. I hope that this song will reach my Top 20, but this is as always hard to predict.

The 2nd highest debut is from another girl band. If you are reading this you might think about another Korean girl band debut. Am I right? In that case you are wrong. This girl band is from the Netherlands. Five months ago TP4Y released their 2nd single “Million bucks” (#62) which I discovered this week. TP4Y took part in the show “Holland's Got Talent”, but until today they failed to reach major attention. “Million bucks” is a nice song with reminiscence to the Golden Age of the 1920’s at least in the video to this song.

Other debuts are “Flame” (#63) by Sundara Karma, “Untamed” (#80) and “Cold in California” (#81) by Cam, “It’s a longer road to California than I thought” (#91) by The Wind and The Wave, “Танцувам само за теб” (#92, “Dance just for you”) by Mihaela Fileva feat. Iskrata and “Prosta sprawa” (#93, “Simple matter”) by Ewelina Lisowska.

Week 287 – August 27^th, 2016

This week’s recap looks similar to last week’s summary. The summer is in its last days and with my thoughts I’m already at the early school days. So my chart is slowing down with only one change within my Top 10. Still shining from the top is Anouk. Her single “Wanna little something” (#1) is now holding the #1 for a fourth week in a row. She is followed by JoJo feat. Wiz Khalifa. “F*ck apologies” (#2) debuted in the same week as “Wanna little something” and since this time this song is stuck in the runner’s-up position. And for a 2nd week “Black car” (#3) by Miriam Bryant is completing the Top 3. Korean export Hyuna is near the Top 3 with her club banger “How’s this” (#4) while Kate Voegele is braving the summer’s end with “Must be summertime” (#5).

There is nothing new under the moon or should I say in the Top 5. Last week Emma reached the waiting position for a Top 5 spot with “Facciamola più semplice” (#6, “Make it easier”). This week is knocking once more. Maybe she will reach such a spot by next week. Now here is the first and only position change in my Top 10. Another Korean singer climbed up one spot and changed the position with “Water under the bridge” (#8) by Adele. It is Taeyeon’s “Why” (#7) which made sure that there was at least one change in my Top 10. The last two spots are going to “Run away together” (#9) by Anouk and “Du schmeckst nach Sommer” (#10, “You taste like summer”).

Last week’s highest new entries “Heartlines” (#43) by Broods climbed up 15 spots and reached my Top 50. For this week’s highest new entry we also have to look outside the Top 50. Martin Garrix teamed up with Bebe Rehxa for his new single “In the name of love” (#60). This song is a typical dance song for this time. “In the name of love” got a slow start on my chart, but it could reach the Top 50 as “Heartlines” did this week.

Week 288 – September 3^rd, 2016

Taking the song title literally then there will be no excuse of Jojo & Wiz Khalifa for taking over the top spot with “F*ck apologies” (#1). In their 5th week on chart they replaced Anouk. Her song “Wanna little something” is now in the hunting position. Still at the podium without stepping up is Swedish singer Miriam Bryant. With her “Black car” (#3) she cruising into the September sun too, but failed to bust the chart topping tandem. The longest charting song within the Top 5 is “Facciamola più semplice” (#4, “Make it easier”) by Emma. In its 10th week on chart Emma’s finally reached this part of my chart and therefore “Facciamola più semplice” is one of the best songs from her “Adesso” album. While Emma is climbing up her Korean equivalent Hyuna dropped one with “How’s this” (#5).

Hyuna is followed by another K-Pop artist. Taeyeon is doing pretty well with “Why” (#6). In comparison with “How’s this” Taeyeon’s song is a moderate dance song, but it is nice to listen to this song and in my opinion I won’t get over this song as soon as by Hyuna’s song. Next in line is Julian Le Play. After closing the Top 10 with “Du schmeckst nach Sommer” (#7, “You taste like summer”) for two weeks her climbed up three spots in Week 288. The only other summer song by Kate Voegele “Must be summertime” (#8) dropped out of the Top 5 this week. The Top 10 is rounded out with two new songs. For both acts it is their debut in this section. Aura better known under her previous stage name Aura Dione got this debut with a climb of four spots with her latest smash “Love somebody” (#9). The other debut brings a 3rd Korean song into my Top 10 which is by the way a new record. Girl band Stellar reached this part with their song “Crying” (#10).

Let’s have a closer look at the highest debut. Neither you can find this song within the Top 20 nor within the Top 30. To be honest it was close for this artist to debut within the Top 40. The artist I’m writing about is Tove Lo. You know her from her numerous hits from “Queen of the clouds”. I’m still charting these album songs and over the next weeks three more songs from this album will get their chart entry. But this week Tove Lo is debuting with the first single from her upcoming new album. “Cool girl” (#38) is a nice dance song and is doing well after the first listen for me. I hope that this song will reach my Top 20 and for the rest we will see.

Week 289 – September 10^th, 2016

50 % of the songs in my Top aren’t in English and the majority of these songs are in Korean. Although they build the bulk only one of these K-Pop songs can be found in the Top 5. Since last week JoJo and Wiz Khalifa are topping my chart with their new hit “F*ck apologies” (#1). Now they are celebrating their 2nd week at the top by blocking Anouk. Her former #1 hit “Wanna little something” (#2) is still fighting for having a comeback at the top, but it will be hard. The reason why it will be tough for Anouk returning at the top is Miriam Bryant’s “Black car” (#3). This song is in its 9th week on chart and is still among my most played songs and I personally think that this song would be a perfect #1. In the meanwhile Emma has to stay at #4 with “Facciamola più semplice” (Make it easier”). The Top 5 is closed with K-Pop club banger “How’s this” (#5) by Hyuna.

There hadn’t been a lot of action in my Top 5. While this was a week without a spot change in this part of my chart in the lower section of the Top 10 only one song hold its spot. Last week Aura Dione reached the Top 10 for the first time in her career. This week “Love somebody” (#6) climbed up three spots. Aura Dione pushed Taeyeon’s “Why” back to #7. Also Austrian singer and radio moderator Julian Le Play dropped one with “Du schmeckst nach Sommer” (#8, “You taste like summer”). Behind these two droppers the only new edition to my Top 10 can be found. It is an album cut of Kelly Clarkson’s album “Piece by piece”. “War paint” (#9) did well this week with a climb of three spots. The Top 10 is rounded out with another K-Pop song. This time it is Stellar’s “Crying” (#10).

In general it had been a calmer week. The greatest gainer of the week is the country gem “Untamed” (#39) by Cam which climbed up 15 spots. Writing about country leads my to this week’s highest new entry. It is by Racheal Lynn Woodward who is better known under her stage name RaeLynn. Since her participation in the US version of The Voice she had some minor country hits which all failed to get my attention. With her latest single “Love triangle” (#60) she got her 1st chart appearance. In this song she is describing her experience with the divorce of her parents. “Love triangle” is a deep emotional song I absolutely like although I’ve no personal experience with the divorce of parents.

The 2nd best new entry is “Side to side” (#77). This song is by Ariana Grande and Nick Minaj who is featured on this track. On my chart Ariana Grande is undergoing a tough time since she released her 3rd album “Dangerous woman”. “Focus” peaked #57, “Dangerous woman” failed to enter my chart and “Into you” was the best single release out of this album with a peak at #23. These songs are far away from her Top 10 hits she had from her previous album. “Side to side” is a nice song with a reggae influenced sound. It is nothing you would have expected from her and maybe this song will help her to return to the higher spots on my chart.

Other debuts are “Lovers in the dark” (#78) and “I miss you” (#91) by Adele, “So schön is die Zeit” (#81, “So beautiful is the time”) by Michelle, “Drunk at a bar” (#84) by Nestor AnDress, “Just wanna belong” (#85) by Favorite Child with the uncredited singer Erik Rapp, “Keine Maschine” (#90, “No machine”) by Tim Bendzko, “Das Geschenk” (#95, “The gift”), “Blame it on my heart” (#96) by Karmin and “I’m not afraid” (#100) by Angela Zhang.

Week 290 – September 17^th, 2016

It was time to cruise into the mid of September. In my eyes the best song for cruising in a car is at the moment a song by Swedish singer Miriam Bryant. Her latest smash “Black car” (#1) climbed up all the way to #1 from #3 in its 10th week on chart. Miriam Bryant switched spots with former #1 “F*ck apologies” (#3) by JoJo feat. Wiz Khalifa who hold the top spot for two weeks. Caught in the middle for a third week in a row is Anouk’s “Wanna little something” (#2). By the way Anouk announced the release of her next album by the end of October. I’ve to admit that I’m still into her “Queen for a day” album with three more debuts by next weeks which brings me up to six of eleven song debuts from this album on my chart. Two albums within a year are a little bit more than expected, but I hope that her new album will be as good as “Queen for a day” which I love. At #4 you can find Aura Dione with her dance hymn “Love somebody” followed by Emma's latest hit from “Adesso”. Her song “Facciamola più semplice” (#5, “Make it easier”) dropped one spot.

Dropping out of the Top 5 is Hyuna’s dance banger “How’s this” (#6) with a drop of one spot. Still upwards is Kelly Clarkson. Her album cut “War paint” (#7) climbed up two spots and should reach the Top 5 by next week. The next two songs in line dropped one spot. Tayeon’s “Why” is now at #8 and Julian Le Play’s “Du schmeckst nach Sommer” (“You taste like summer”) is at #9. The Top 10 is rounded out by Stellar’s “Crying” (#10).

The highest debut is from a young German singer. Back in 2011 she participated in Deutschland sucht den Superstar (DSDS) the German version of American Idol. As Nicole Kandziora she reached the Top 15. Since this time a lot changed. She changed her artist name into the more international Nicole Cross. One her Youtube channel she is performing with German star Lena Meyer-Landrut. And back last autumn she released a cover of Adele’s “Hello” which was shared on Facebook by Ashton Kutcher. Now she released her first solo single. “Awesome” (#19) is a nice pop song with a catchy refrain. The song sticking in my head since the first listen and for me this song has written hit all over it.

“Awesome” isn’t the only debut within this week’s Top 50. Lady Gaga returned with a solid dance pop song after she made a side trip to Jazz. With “Perfect illusion” (#44) it seems that she can carry on where she left off. On my chart she underperformed in the last years with “Do what you want” as her only Top 10 hit. Maybe “Perfect illusion” is reaching the Top 20 and the rest we all will see. “Perfect illusion” is followed by the last but not least new entry in my Top 50. Swedish newcomer Neiked got their debut with “Sexual” (#45).

Week 291 – September 24^th, 2016

Last week I announced that I will debut three more songs from Anouk nearly perfect album “Queen for a day”. So this week we will see where these songs will debut on my chart. To compare the debuts let’s have a closer look at the previous singles from this album. Nearly a year before the album was released “New day” got its debut at #49 as a non-album single at this moment. Later “New day” reached #1 by August 1st in 2015. The first official single out of “Queen for a day” had been “Dirty girl”. “Dirty girl” debuted in January and peaked at #8 back in March. Eight weeks ago the 2nd official single “Wanna little something” (#2) debuted at #1 and stayed at the top of my chart for four weeks. “Wanna little something” is still a Top 3 hit in this week’s edition. So you see that every song from this album reached my Top 10. So much for the memories from the past.

This week sees another chart topping debut. For a third time in chart history this debut is by my favourite artist Anouk. Have I mentioned that I love her “Queen for a day” album? If not I’ve to point out that I love this album. Her recent #1 is the album cut “If I knew” (#1). “If I know” isn’t as fast as “Wanna little something”, but this song is my favourite from this album. With this ballad Anouk shot straight to #1. From the first listen I hoped that this song would be released as a regular single, but this won’t happen anymore, because next month she will release her 2nd album this year. “If I knew” is a very sad song. This song is about the situation that a person will never return (or recently passed away) and you aren’t prepared to this fact. The song is all about the voice of Anouk with very little arrangements. With this song she is showing why I’m a fan of her since years now.

“If I knew” is the first of five songs from this album within my Top 22 songs. So the other two songs from this album are also top debuts in this review. But let’s recap the Top 10 first. “If I knew” is at #1 and her former #1 “Wanna little something” (#2) is holding the runner’s up position. So once more Anouk is topping my chart with two songs. Last week’s #1 “Black car” (#3) by Swedish singer Miriam Bryant dropped two spots, but it is still a song for driving around in a car. For the JoJo and Wiz Khalifa cooperation “F*ck apologies” (#4) the time in the Top 3 ends with a drop of one spot. Also dropping one spot is Aura Dione with “Love somebody” (#5). Don’t be sad for her. Her next single “Indian giver” is on its way to my chart.

The 2nd half of my Top 10 is opened by well known singer Selena Gomez. Her album “Revival” is producing several Top 10 hits and the album cut “Sober” (#6) is no exception. This week “Sober” climbed up nine spots to get its first week in the Top 10. Normally “Sober” would be a #1 hit, but the concurrence by Anouk is very hard for the next weeks. Emma is dropping down two spots with “Facciamola più semplice” (#7, “Make it easier”). Also on the way down are “War paint” (#8) by Kelly Clarkson and “How’s this” (#10) by Hyuna. Caught between these two droppers is the 2nd highest new entry. And how could it be otherwise than that this song is from “Queen for a day”. “Not a lovesong” (#9) is the 2nd highest debut in Week 291. In this song Anouk is singing “It’s just another sad song”. The theme of this song is similar to her “Sad singalong songs” album which she released back in 2013. In contrast to the very sad song “If I knew” the sound of this song isn’t slow or reminds me of a sad song. It’s a mid tempo song with an infectious refrain and among my favourites of this album. “Not a lovesong” should do well in the next weeks and complete the Anouk reign of my chart.

Not far behind the Top 10 and the 2nd highest debut by Anouk the last but not least debut by Anouk can be found. It is “Be my baby” (#11) which missed the Top 10 by one spot. “Be my Baby” is more pop orientated than her other songs on this album and this continuous her pervious work on the other albums or her last year’s #1 smash “New day”. In total “Be my baby” is a more carefree love song than her other debuts in this week. As I pointed out before “Not a lovesong” should join the top Anouk songs and of course the same pertain for “Be my baby”. This could lead to a new chart record with four Anouk songs topping my chart in the next edition.
