Week 157 – March 1^st, 2014

Although they didn’t won the final of “Herz von Österreich” Tagträumer got a 2nd week at the top with “Sinn”. And for a third time in a row Emma finished 2nd with “L’amore non mi basta”. Generally this week is characterized by small movements down the chart. In this week’s Top 10 only two songs climbed up. One is “True north” (#5) by Jillette Johnson who has now two Top 5 hits. The other one is “Love and money” (#9) by B*Witched. Two songs from Germany are new in my Top 10. For Revolverheld “Ich lass das Licht für dich an” (#8) is the bands first Top 10 hit. Then there is Jennifer Rostock. “K.B.A.G.” (#10) climbed up three spots in is the bands 2nd Top 10 after the #1 hit “Ich kann nicht mehr” back in 2012.

Outside the Top 10 some songs are still climbing in there 8th charting week or so. Among this songs are “Atemlos durch die Nacht” (#12) by Helene Fischer who lost #1 in Austria this week or “Do what’s best for you” (#13) by Aurea. Also doing well are “Clown” (#16) and “Seeker” (#17) by 77 Bombay Street. One of the fastest climber of the week is “Can’t remember to forget you” (#19). Shakira and Rihanna are doing better and better in the last weeks and so they are in a good position for a Top 10 hit.

The greatest gainer of the week is Ben Montague. Three of his four charting songs are climbing up the chart. “Sweet Amelia” (#30) did best and should join the Top 20 by the next weeks. Another week goes by and the highest debut can’t be found within the Top 50. Not even within the Top 60. Alanis Morissette my favourite artist in 2013 placed another three songs from her latest album on my chart. The highest is “Win and win” (#66) which just one over “Edge of evolution” (#67). Back in 2012 Chila Lynn from Cuba released her debut single from her debut album “Real woman”. Immediately after I found out about this song I charted “When love …” (#82) which gave Chila Lynn her chart debut two years after releasing this song.

Other debuts are “To be wanted” (#78) by Plug In Stereo feat. Week 158 – March 8^th, 2014

A #1 debut doesn’t happen all the time. The last time it occurred was in September 2012 when Cover Drive feat. Dappy debuted at #1 with “Explode”. They stayed at the top for six consecutive weeks and “Explode” was one of the biggest hits in 2012 and 2013. For the 2nd time in my chart history a song debuts at the top. This time it comes by one of my core artists over the years. Anouk’s last album “Sad singalong songs” produced only one #1 hit and the non-album single “Wigger” peaked at #17 so she didn’t met my expectations. With her new single “You & I” she did better and reached her first #1 debut. For this song she worked with Netherlands best known DJ Afrojack. This single becomes her 6th #1 in three years and is following “Pretending as always” which peaked at #1 in October last year. “You & I” is more a dance song than her typical rock songs.

In general week #158 is one for the records. First there is the #1 debut. Second there are two debuts within the Top 10 which happened only once before when in February 2012 three songs debuted within the Top 10, but none of these songs debuted at #1. Third the two debuts in the Top 10 are by the same artist. While Anouk’s #1 debut is a dance pop song her other Top 10 debut is more typical for her. “I won’t play that game (live)” (#4) is one of two promotional singles from her live album “Live at the Symphonica at Rosso” which is going to be released next week. While I decided not to chart the other promotional single “Woman” – which is one of my favourite tracks from “For bitter or worse” – for the moment “I won’t play that game” is one of two new tracks on this album.

I mentioned three reasons why this week is a week for the books. There is a fourth reason too. For the first time since I decided not to chart a whole album at once (which was back in 2011) the top five debuts are by one artist. So this week is Anouk’s week. Her debuts three, four and five are the last songs from her “Sad singalong songs” album I’m going to chart. The highest debut of these “Sad singalong songs’ “ is “I don’t know nothing” (#66) which is followed by “The black side of my mind” (#67) and “The rules” (#68).

So enough about Anouk. There is a live beside my favourite artist. Tagträumer lost the top position with “Sinn” (#2) after two weeks, but their new single “Schwerelos” (“Weightless”) is ready for a debut by next week. Jillette Johnson’s “Last bus out” (#7) dropped out of the Top 3 while Emma’s “L’amore non mi basta” is still in there in its 17th charting week. “K.B.A.G” (#11) by Jennifer Rostock and “Hush” (#12) by miss A had to leave Top 10 because of the two top debuts. This week’s greatest gainer is “Ich kenn dich nicht” by Phillip & Julia.

Sammelst du Herzen by Redweik is a great song!! I remember listening to other song of them thanks to you, but can't remember which one it was. Anyway, I know I bitch too much on other people's charts, but bear with me please. I think a 34 peak for this, is too low. Any chance it can go back up?

All Too Well drops out this week, and even if I complained before, a 25 peak is great!

Yes they are very good. And there 2nd single is giving its debut this week. Everytime I'm going to learn new words. Haven't heard the word "wifebeater" before.

Both are going up the chart. I think that Ben is going to be in the Top 10 before Matt will arrive with "Empire". It's nice to have this songs on the chart. Good to hear that the CD finally arrived.

Week 159 – March 15^th, 2014

A week after the chart earthquake the situation settled down a little bit. Anouk’s “You & I” (#1) is still smiling from the top and so she is leading the pack. Although “You & I” debuted at the top I can’t predict who long she will stay at #1 with this song. The reason is clear. Her other Top 5 debut “I won’t play that game” (#2) climbed up two spots this week and is now in a good position to take over. Former #1’s “Sinn” (#3) and “L’amore non mi basta” (#4) dropped one, but they are still in the Top 5. Revolverheld’s love song “Ich lass das Licht für dich an” (#6) climbed up two spots and should be in the Top 5 by next week. The only new song in the Top 10 comes by Canadian girl Kristina Maria. She tried it several times before, but with “Bang U up” (#8) she got her first big chart hit. “Bang U up” replaced Guy Sebastian’s “Like a drum” (#16).

After only one week in the Top 10 Jennifer Rostock’s “K.B.A.G.” (#11) is caught at #11 for a 2nd week in a row. A return into the top part of the chart is possible, but hard to reach because of all the other songs which are trying the same. First to mention is the duet between Shakira and Rihanna. “Can’t remember to forget you” (#12) took a time to grow on me, but with growing airplay in Austria and on my ipod this song is ready to enter the Top 10. Or is the Goo Goo Dolls double pack ready? “When the world breaks your heart” (#13) and “Slow it down” (#14) had it a little bit hard with all the CD's I bought over the last months, but finally these songs should do the last step. I shouldn't forget about Ben Montague. While his former #1 “Love like stars” (#89) is on its way out he has several irons in the fire. “Sweet Amelia” (#15) overruled his duet “Liberty road” (#17) with Lucie Silvas this week, but both could do it next week.

“When love …” (#43) has been released back in 2012 as a regular single by Cuban singer Chila Lynn. I’m glad that I found about this song a few weeks ago. This R&B song has really everything I like on a song. I wouldn't be surprised if Chila Lynn will reach the Top 20 in the next weeks or even go into the Top 10. But for this week “When love …” is the greatest gainer of the week after climbing up 29 spots. Chila Lynn is followed by a Swedish singer who I had actually forgotten. Back in 1999 she had her biggest success with “All ‘bout the money” followed a year later by her duet with Ricky Martin. “Private emotion” was her latest hit until know. Some months ago she released her latest single “Blame it on the shadows” (#44). It took some time until I got a copy of this song, but now this song is highest debut on this week’s chart edition.

This week’s debuts are characterized by several debuts from Aurea’s album “Soul notes”. The highest of her three new entries is “Watch and learn” (#66) followed by “Start over” (#84) and “Just like you” (#85). Other debuts are “Tick Tock” (#67) by Walking On Cars, “Schwerelos” (#78, “Weightless”) by Tagträumer, “Fighter” (#82) by State Of Drama, “Wieder laut” (#91, “Loud again”) by Christina Stürmer, “On the run” (#92) by Martin Rolinski, “They way that we are” (#95, no single) by Scars On 45, “Like lovers do” (#96) by Madeline Juno, “Criminals” (#100) by Manda.

Week 160 – March 22^nd, 2014

And the winner is once more Anouk with her double pack at the top of the chart. “You & I” is still my favourite song of the week. Her live song “I won’t play that game” (#2) ends up as runner up for a 2nd week in a row, but it has been a tough decision between these songs for #1. At the moment all other songs have no chance for reaching #1. Austrian newcomer band Tagträumer is completing the Top 3 with their debut single “Sinn”. The 2nd German song in the Top 5 is now “Ich lass für dich das Licht an” (#4) by Revolverheld. I’ve not been a big fan of them, but this song is lifting them on another level. Still inside the Top 5 is “L’amore non mi basta” (#5) by Emma. This song is spending its 18th week in the Top 10 and all of these weeks Emma was in the Top 5 with this song. Only Alanis Morissette’s mega hit “Receive” (10 weeks at #1) was longer, three weeks, in the Top 5 than “L’amore non mi basta”.

Kristina Maria is climbing up the chart with her song “Bang U up” (#7). Maybe by next she gets a Top 5 spot for the first time in her career. Two songs are new in the Top 10. Let’s first start with two superstars before I write something about the newbie. Rihanna had it a little bit hard since I re-started my chart back in 2011. But since the end of 2013 she had two Top 10 hits as featured act. The first time has been with Eminem on his song “The monster” (peak #7). This time it is with Shakira. "Can't remember to forget you" (#10) is Rihanna's 2nd and Shakira's 1st Top 10 hit. Then there is Chila Lynn. Last week her song “When love …” (#9) was the greatest gainer of the week. This fact didn’t change. This week “When love …” climbed up 34 spots to reach the Top 10 which brings Chila Lynn her first Top 10 hit. Somehow at the moment I get connections to songs about the end of love or rather to songs about the fact that love isn’t enough although I’m not in a relationship right now. Emma’s “L’amore non me basta” ended up with nine weeks at the top. Chila Lynn’s song about “When love turns to pain” could follow in the footsteps of Emma, but for that she had to break Anouk’s double pack.

While Chila Lynn reached Top 10 with her first charting song Goo Goo Dolls had to wait outside with their beautiful songs “When the world breaks your heart” (#11) and “Slow it down” (#13). “Sweet Amelia” (#14) by Ben Montague had also to wait, but I’m in a good mood that this song is reaching Top 10 soon. This week Emma is doing way better with her follow up “Trattengo il fiato” (#24). This should be a her 9th or 10th Top 10 hit on my chart. It depends if “La mia felicià” (#22) is reaching Top 10 before it.

The highest debut comes by a 16-year-old Swedish girl. Ida LaFontaine released her debut single some weeks ago. This week “Yolo” (#45, You only live once) is leading this week’s debuts. “Yolo” is the only debut inside the Top 50. The highest debut outside the Top 50 is by Israel born French singer Tal. “Pas toi” (#55, “Not you”) is her third single from “À l’infini”. This song is more a ballad than a dance song like “Danse” which reached Top 10 back in December 2013. I really like this song so Tal should end up with another Top 20 hit on my chart. These two top debuts are followed by three Pink debuts. “Where did the beat go” (#66), “Here comes the weekend” (#67) with Eminem and “My signature move” (#68) are no official singles, but I think it’s time to chart them.

Other debuts are “Already yours” (#78) by Honor By August, “Younger” (#80) by Julie Bergan, “Anywhere for you” (#81) by John Martin, “Waterfall” (#92) by Joni, “We own the night” (#93) by Raw, “For a while” (#94) by The New Roses, “I won’t let go” (#96) by The Spleen, “Solomon” (#98) by Neil Garrard and “Tin star” (#100) by Lindi Ortega.

I am stupid and got this computer and gave my old one to my niece. Turns out THAT computer IS better than my current one and can't handle well so many videos in a single page. So, if you could do that, that'd be rad! <3

I'm sure that I'm no wizard. But this has been easy. You're the one with the most comments in this thread which I absolutely appreciate. You mentioned once that you like that song by Lauter Leben. On the other side you never wrote that "Maschine" was a song you'd like to listen. The other German song you liked was by Dagobert ("Ich bin zu jung"). As Dagobert is no band there was no big choice for knowing which songs you were talking about.

You're right. TBA stands for "To be announced". They are currently working on an album, but I can't say when they'd release this album. I personally think that the earliest date of release is somewhere in Autumn. In my oppinion Tagträumer could be the best Austrian band since years. I hope they will've some success too.

I also listened to Satin Circus' album once. It's not as bad as you might think now, but I believe that they could've done better, because my expectations where high after such perfect songs like "Emma" or "If you love me".

Week 161 – March 29^th, 2014

Three weeks ago Anouk debuted at #1 with “You & I” (#1). Since then she is holding off her other top song “I won’t play that game” (#2) from #1. This week is no exception. The podium is completed by Austrian band Tagträumer. Their song “Sinn” (#3) is in it’s 7th week within the Top 3. The other German song in the Top 5 is once more “Ich lass das Licht für dich an” (#4). Two songs are new in the Top 10. The highest new song in the Top 10 comes by Ben Montague. His song “Sweet Amelia” (#8) should easily go up the chart and reach Top 5. The other new song is “When the world breaks your heart” (#10). The Goo Goo Dolls took a long time, 11 weeks, for reaching Top 10 with this song. The cucurrence had been hard, but for now they are in. Maybe this beautiful song climbs up some spots in the next weeks.

Cassadee Pop’s country pop song “I wish I could break your heart” (#12) had to leave the Top 10 after six weeks. Only one week in the Top 10 spent “Can’t remember to forget you” (#13) by Shakira feat. Rihanna. And as always there are several songs which are trying to reach the Top 10. This week the one to mention comes from an Austrian band. Back in 2011 Nihils took part in the first season of “Die große Chance” with their song “Set my sail”. This song peaked at #26 and is easily outperformed by the bands actual single. “Lovers on the run” (#16) climbed up 16 spots to a new peak. This song isn’t a typical Austro Pop song, because it is more oriented in modern electronic indie pop. You should definitely listen to this pop gem. In the shadow of this song two more songs by Emma, “La mia felicità” (#18) and “Trattengo il fiato” (#21) are continuing their upwards trend.

Haley Reinhart’s song “Undone” (#29) which has never been released as an official single, climbed up 20 spots. For this “Undone” is the greatest gainer of the week. Not far behind this week’s highest debut can be found. It’s a French rock song by French Rock band Kyo. Their comeback single after a break of eight years is “Le graal” (#34). This song has an infecting sound and a refrain which stuck in your head. So far the best charting French song has been “Je veux” (peaked at #3 back in 2011). At the moment I’ve got the feeling that this song could be the first French song in the Top 3 since “Je veux”. The highest debut is followed by three album tracks by Taylor Swift. The highest of these three songs is “I almost do” (#35) followed by “Stay stay stay” (#36) and “Holy ground” (#37).

And there are two more debuts within this week’s Top 50. One song is a little bit older, but this song could be a favourite of my in this year. It’s “Classic” (#48) by MKTO who had a hit with this song back in 2013 in Australia. The other one comes from a well known artist on my chart. It’s the new single “Heartkill” (#49) by Norwegian singer Tone Damli. Her last charting song “Winner of a losing game” peaked at #35 last Autumn. Other debuts are “Air balloon” (#74) by Lily Allen, “Light me up” (#75) by Birdy, “How I feel” (#86, no official single) by Centao, “Stars align” (#90) by Laleh who has actually a hit with “Some die young” in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, “Stay awake” (#91) by Marlene, “Looking for that girl” (#91) by Tim McGraw, “Thieves (#94) by Scarlett O’Hanna, “The ocean” (#98) by Tonight Alive and “Stop the world” (#100) by Matt Chase.

Week 162 – April 5^th, 2014

At the moment it’s all about Anouk at the top of my chart. But, wait … Yes that’s true. She is still at #1, but “You & I” (#2) dropped one and was replaced by her promotional single “I won’t play that game” (#1) from her latest live album. Once more Tagträumer are completing the podium with “Sinn” (#3). There 2nd single has it a little bit difficult, but “Schwerelos” (#34) is on its way up. Generally beside the change at the top spot the Top 5 was very stabile this week. Cuban singer Chila Lynn ended up close to a Top 5 spot with her debut single “When love …” (#6). The only new song within the Top 10 comes by an Austrian band. The Nihils took this last step with “Lovers on the run” (#10) and climbed up 6 spots to reach a Top 10 spot.

A little bit surprising is Birdy’s climb with her latest smash “Light me up” (#19). Last week this song was only the 7th best new entry. This week “Light me up” climbed up 56 spots, is the greatest gainer of the week and is leading all last week’s new entries. With this song she easily outperformed every other single I charted from her before. All other debuts from last week didn’t bad, but they had no chance to compete with Birdy this week. Not far behind is this week’s highest new entry. It’s is a song which I’ve not been sure about for weeks. Over the last week I gave “Sleeping with a friend” (#25) by Neon Trees another chance – although this song has no significant airplay in Austria – and finally I’m infected with the sound and the song itself. I wait eagerly where this song will peak in the next weeks.

“Sleeping with a friend” isn’t the only song which took a while before I decided to chart it. Another example is Cris Cab’s “Liar liar” (#44). “Liar liar” is one of these songs in Austria which has strong airplay at the moment. So whenever I’m driving to work or home I hear this song on the radio. Or they play Anna F.’s latest single “Too far” (#55) or Julian Le Play’s “Mein Anker” (“My anchor”, #78). All these songs hadn’t been on my shortlist and now they are among this week’s debuts.

Other debuts are “Blank page” (#41) by Christina Augilera, “Into the blue” (#56) by Kylie Minogue, “Stupid little things” (#77) by Anastacia, “I bin a Weh” (“I’m a Weh”, #80) by Depeche Ambross, “Cease fire” (#91) by Christina Aguilera, “I really want it” (#93) by A Great Big World, “Best day of my life” (#94) by American Authors, “We still don’t talk” (#97) by Tough Cookies and “25” (#100) by Die Fantastischen Vier feat. Week 163 – April 12^th, 2014

Spending a week in Prague didn’t change my mind about the actual music and the whole Top 3. So Anouk’s double pack at the top continues for a fifth consecutive week and for the 2nd time with “I won’t play that game” (#1) at the top and “You & I” (#2) in the runner’s up position. Austrian band Tagträumer stays for a fifth week at #3 with “Sinn” while their 2nd single “Schwerelos” (#25) did a huge step upwards. New at #4 is Cuban singer Chila Lynn. Her beautiful “When love …” could end Tagträumer’s run at #3 next week. Two well-known artists also have this chance. Ben Montague’s “Sweet Amelia” (#7) climbed up one and then there is Emma. And no it’s not a re-climb by “L’amore non mi basta” (#8). It’s Emma’s latest Top 10 hit “La mia felicità”(#9, “My happiness”) which reached the Top 10 for the first time in its 8th week.

The Goo Goo Dolls had to leave the Top 10 with “When the world breaks your heart” (#15). Matt Cardle finished this week once more at #11 with “Empire” which should’ve been a Top 10 hit so far. Maybe he is reaching this part next week. With Birdy and Neon Trees there are two more acts who have a good chance to do this step. For both this could be their first Top 10 hit while it would be the first with the first charting song for Neon Trees. Birdy’s “Light me up” (#19) climbed up six spots while Neon Trees’ “Sleeping with a friend” is a little bit more catchier and climbed up eleven spots.

The highest new entry comes by well established German dance act Cascada. Their new single “Blink” debuted at #27. “Blink” is a cover version by unknown British pop duo U.V.U.K. based in London, consisting of Maxine Leigh and Jenna Quinn. “Blink” had been their 2nd official single in 2012. Cascada’s version of “Blink” is a lot more danceable than the original and should be as usual a big hit for this act. The 2nd best debut this week is a little bit older. Originally “W stronę słońca” (#39, “Towards the sun”) has been released in December 2012. In Poland Ewelina Lisowska reached very soon #1 in 2013. By chance I'm finally stumbled upon this song and now she debuted within the Top 40.

And there is a third debut within the Top 50 this week. But before I’ve to mention that US-Rock band Honor By August climbed up 20 spots with “Already yours” (#45). So “Already yours” is the greatest gainer of the week. Russian-Estonian singer Tanja debuts with “Amazing” (#49). This song represents Estonia in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Denmark. This song should be easily in the finals and then we will see if she is reaching a top spot with “Amazing”.

Other debuts are “Let go for tonight” (#79) by Foxes, “Heart cry” (#81) by Pixie Lott, “Till the sun burns out” (#93) by [SEBELL], “Glow” (#94) by Manda, “Catch me” (#95) by Gigi Radics, “Not ready to say goodbye” (#96) by Awa and “Letter to you” (#97) by Lenny.

Week 164 – April 19^th, 2014

Anouk is still smiling from the top. “I won’t play that game” (#1) is leading the pack for a third week while her other smash “You & I” (#2) is blocking all other songs from reaching the Top 2. New at the podium is Cuban singer Chila Lynn. Her fresh song “When love …” (#3) is the one song which could bust the Anouk double pack at the top. “When love …” was the only song within the Top 5 which climbed up one spot. Generally there was little action in this week’s Top 10. Matt Cardle finally placed another song from his “The fire” album in the Top 10. “Empire” (#9) reached its peak within the Top 10 in its 10th week and replaced Kristina Maria’s “Bang U up” (#13).

Three songs are already hot for reaching the top part of the chart. Heavy knocking is Neon Trees’ “Sleeping with a friend” (#11) which overtook “Light me up” (#12) by Birdy. For both acts could it be their first Top 10 hit on my chart. And then there is Norwegian singer Tone Damli who has also no Top 10 hit so far. Her best charting song has been “Look back” which peaked at #12 back in June 2012. “Heartkill” (#14) is in its 4th week and could outperform this song easily by next week. Perhaps I shouldn’t forget about Cascada’s latest dance song “Blink” (#18). Cascada climbed up nine spots which is pretty good. But I think that Cascada won’t be in the Top 10 next week.

2014 is marked by two artists so far. Anouk is topping the chart since March and shortly before Italian singer Emma dominated with “L’amore non mi basta” (#8) which is still in the Top 10 in its 23rd week. At the moment Emma has one more song in the Top 10 with “La mia felicità” (#7) and with “Trattengo il fiato” (#17) another song in the Top 20. This week Emma debuts with her Eurovision Song Contest entry “La mia città” (#36). “La mia città” is a typical song from her and should easily reach the Top 20. The song itself can be found on the re-released “Schiena” album as a bonus cut.

Two more songs are debuting within this week’s Top 50. The 2nd best new entry comes by British singer Rita Ora. Her latest single “I will never let you down” (#47) is far different from her previous work. When I first listened to this song I didn’t found it special, but this song unfolds its impact after a few listens. “I will never let you down” should easily outperform “Radiocative” which is her biggest hit on my chart up-to-date. The other new song is “Isso” (“It is so”, #49) by Mateo. Mateo is part of German group Culcha Candela who had several hits among with “Monsta” or “Hamma!” (their only #1 in Germany). “Isso” impresses with a very catchy, nearly perfect refrain while the lyrics itself are not as good as the refrain. The greatest gainer of the week is Foxes’ “Let go for tonight” (#56) which climbed up 23 spots. “Heart cry” (#58) by Pixie Lott also climbed up 23 spots.

Week 165 – April 26^th, 2014

Even at the end of April nothing changed at the Top of my chart. Anouk is shining bright from the top. “I won’t play that game” (#1) is still followed by her “You & I” (#2). Last week it seemed that Chila Lynn could break the Anouk double pack, but in the end “When love …” (#3) didn’t move up and so she completes the podium for a 2nd week. Austrian band Tagträumer finally receives gaining radio airplay with “Sinn” (#4) in their home country. Therefore they didn’t fall on my chart this week. Only one act managed to enter the Top 10. US band Neon Trees climbed up four spots with their catchy “Sleeping with a friend” (#7). Neon Trees replaced Matt Cardle’s “Empire” (#13).

Birdy lost her duel with Neon Trees. “Light me up” (#11) climbed up only one spot is now the top song outside the Top 10 while Tone Damli and her beautiful “Heartkill” (#12) climbed up two. German dance act Cascada also did a bigger step with their cover of “Blink” (#14). For the first time in history an Austrian band has more than two songs in the Top 20 on my chart. While “Sinn” is still among the top hits “Schwerelos” (#18) finally climbed up seven spots and reached a new peak. Hopefully “Schwerelos” is another Top 10 hit for them. Currently they are working on their debut album which should be released in summer.

Last week Rita Ora debuted with “I will never let you down” (#30) at #47. This week she climbed up 17 spots and so “I will never let you down” is the greatest gainer of the week. A little bit better did this week’s highest debut. In Sweden Ace Wilder participated in the Melodifestivalen 2014 with “Busy doin’ nothin’ “ (#44). Shortly after “Busy doin’ nothin’ “ reached #1 in Sweden, but this song won’t represent Sweden in Denmark. Sweden will be represented by Sanna Nielsen with “Undo” which only reached #2 in Sweden. This could be a classic mistake for Sweden, but we all will see in a few weeks if “Undo” is doing well during the Eurovision Song Contest.

The 2nd highest debut comes from two artists who had no chart hit before. TWB which stands for The Writer’s Block are a team of producers from London who met first at Westminster University back in 2010. For their debut they selected French singer Anouck, but there could be some misunderstandings because on iTunes their debut single is listed under TWB feat. Anouk which is referred to my favourite singer Anouk from the Netherlands. “Dancing in the dark” (#49) is one of those songs which fits best with the actual chart busters from Disclosure, Rudimental or even Clean Bandit with a mix of classic house part and an early 1990’s dance-pop. If this song would be picked up by the radio stations this could be the next big hit.

And there is a third debut within the Top 50. It’s a cooperation between DJ Cassidy, Robin Thicke and Jessie J for DJ Cassidy’s debut album “Paradise royale”. While Jessie J is a well-known artist on my chart for the other two “Calling all hearts” (#50) is their chart debut. For a while I absolutely ignored this song. Maybe because Robin Thicke is singing on this song and I didn’t like his 2013 chart buster “Blurred lines”. But as this song was picked up from Austrian radio stations I gave it a chance and now it is one of those songs which could do well in the future.

Other debuts are “Baby doll” (#62) by Meet Brothers Anjjan feat. Kanika Kapoor which is the title track from “Ragini MMS 2”, “So viel leichter” (#78, “So much easier”) by Luna Simao feat. SAM, “Alles wird gut” (#80, “Everything will be ok”) by Luna Simao, “Einmal im Leben” (#83, “Once a live“) by Luxuslärm, “Million euro smile” (#84) by The Makemakes, “Sailing” (#85) by Mike Oldfield feat. Luke Spiller, “Extraordinary” (#93) by Clean Bandit feat. Sharna Bass, “One night stand” (#96) by TWiiNS feat. Flo Rida and “Body say no, heart say yeas” (#97) by Ashley Allen.

Week 166 – May 3^rd, 2014

For a fifth week Anouk is dominating the chart with her live song “I won’t play that game” (#1). This fact leads to another. Again within the Top 4 there is no change. So Anouk is leading with a double pack and “You and me” at #2 while Chila Lynn didn’t broke into this double and Austrian Tagträumer are holding their position which brings “Sinn” (#4) its 12th week within the Top 5. Next week Anouk could top the chart for a consecutive of 10 week with two different songs. The only new song in the Top 5 is Neon Trees’ “Sleeping with a friend” (#5). The Top 10 also sees a surprise re-climb by former #1 “L’amore non mi basta” (#6). Emma’s biggest hit recently reached the All-Time Top 10 since I re-started my chart back in 2011 and for this week she climbed up two spots. At the bottom of the Top 10 two songs are giving their premier. First to mention is Birdy’s “Light me up” (#9) for which she earns her first Top 10. The other new song is Cascada’s “Blink” (#10).

Two new songs in the Top 10 means that two songs had to leave this section. Ben Montague had to leave with “Sweet Amelia” (#11) and German band Revolverheld left with “Ich lass für dich das Licht an” (#13). This replacements mean that Tone Damli’s “Heartkill” (#12) had to wait at least one more week for reaching the Top 10. It depends if Emma is scoring her 10th Top 10 hit by next week with her Eurovision Song Contest “La mia città” (#14) which is absolutely possible. But there are some more songs which have ambitions. One song is by Ewelina Lisowska. Her song “W stronę słońca” (“Towards the sun”, #18) is the first song in Polish reaching the Top 20. Another is “I will never let you down” (#19) by Rita Ora who also reached the Top 20 for the first time in her career.

Two songs fought for the greatest gainer of the week. Swedish former #1 “Busy doin’ nothin’ “ (#25) by Ace Wilder lost the game against TWB feat. Anouck with their song “Dancing in the dark” (#26) which climbed up 23 spots after a tough fight over this week. But there is one more song which is entering the chart and which has a great outlook. Danish band Electric Lady Lab samples a big 80’s hit by Roxette. The “Listen to your heart” sample fits well with their song “Hurts” (#34). The video linked shows an acoustic version of the song I’m charting which is also very good. The other Top 50 debut is by Echosmith who recently had a minor hit with “Come together” (peak at #70). Their critical song “Cool kids” (#46) outperformed “Come together” easily in it’s debut week and should do well over the next weeks.

Week 167 – May 10^th, 2014

Last night the Eurovision Song Contest occurred in Denmark. It ended with a stunning win by Austrian drag artist Thomas Neuwirth better known as Conchita Wurst.

Over the last years I charted several songs from the Contest and the qualifying shows. Some of the songs did better some only charted one week like this years Finnish contestant Softengine. So far the highest charting song by an Eurovision Song Contest contestant from Austria has been Natália Kelly with “Shine” (peak at #9 in May 2013). This year Conchita Wurst has been chosen by an intern selection. I absolutely can understand why this song or better this artificial character has won the contest, but I personally don’t like this song although I’m proud of this 2nd win. In the end I’m going with our 1st win by Udo Jürgens’ “Mercie Cherie”

which is a classic.

Enough about the Eurovision Song Contest let’s take a look at this weeks chart. After several calm weeks at the top spots there are some changes. Still at the top is Anouk with “I won’t play that game”. This song is now her longest running #1 with six weeks. For the first time Chila Lynn reached the runner up position with “When love …” (#2). Austrian band Tagträumer returned at #3 with “Sinn” in its 17th week. This brings me back to Anouk who dropped down two spots with her former chart topper “You & I” (#4). Birdy did a big step this week. She climbed up three spots with “Light me up” (#6). Emma who participated in this years Eurovision Song Contest dropped one with “L’amore non mi basta” (#7) after spending a half year on my chart and 25 weeks within the Top 10. Finally Tone Damli reached the Top 10 with “Heartkill” (#9) and replaced another song by Emma who is now at #11 with “La mia felicità”.

Emma’s Eurovision Song Contest participation ended at #21 among 26 countries in the final. I liked her performance and her song “La mia città” (#12) is almost in the Top 10. The Top 10 are also the aim of Ewelina Lisowska with “W stronę słońca” (#17) and Rita Ora “I will never let you down” (#18). And of course of several other artists, but these ones have the best chance to be in the Top 10 within the next weeks. The highest new entry comes by an Artist who had two #1’s on my chart so far. Her last #1 has been “Last bus out” (#47). It’s Jillette Johnson with “Peter Pan” (#38). “Peter Pan” is another well performed and very good song by her. If everything develops as expected “Peter Pan” should be Jillette Johnson’s 6th Top 10 hit.

“Peter Pan” is followed by another new song in this week’s countdown. “Rather be” is one of the biggest hits at the moment and therefore the Airplay is going up and up with no end in sight. I charted Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne with “Rather be” for the first time back in February when this song was big in UK. But “Rather be” only peaked at #87 for me and dropped out after three weeks. Because there is no escape for this song they returned even stronger and give their comeback at #39. On a dragrope is Clean Bandit’s 2nd charting song “Extraordinary” (#75) which is this weeks greatest gainer of the week.

The 2nd best new entry comes by Pharrell Williams. Over the last year he had several hits. Starting with “Blurred lines” or “Get lucky” where he was featured to his this year’s smash “Happy”. What have all these songs in common? I didn’t charted this world hits. To put this in a nutshell Pharrell Williams gives his chart debut with “Marilyn Monroe” (#57) which could be his next big hit or his first flop in a while because I'm charting this song?

Other new songs on the list are “I’m not sorry” (#58) by Celeste Buckingham, “Afterlifte” (#79 which is her official single in Germany, Switzerland and Austria) by Ingrid Michaelson, “Heal” (#86) by Mo, “Last night” (#87) by The Vamps, “Dollhouse” (#89) by Melanie Martinez, “Basset hound” (#93) by Jillette Johnson, “A sky full of stars” (#94) by Coldplay, “Stay with you tonight” (#99) by Clinton Sparks feat. Riff Raff and “Please stay” (#100) by Rennata.
