amazingly, 6 of the 7 so far have gotten their first chart topper for me... even though Amy Lee did get to #1 with Evanescence, seeing as she is the featured artist, Seether officially gets their first... Dexter Freebish holds the distinction of being the only group to have their second #1 on my chart (of all the chart topper's) with their previous hit "Leaving Town"

-3 Doors Down had a couple #1s before "Here Without You"
-No Doubt's first #1 on my chart was "It's My Life," so we got a winner here.
-Neither OutKast or Kelis had a #1 on my chart before "Hey Ya!" and "Milkshake," so it was new territory to both.
-"You and I Both" followed "The Remedy" to #1, so Jason Mraz is counted out.
-The Darkness' first single was "I Believe In A Thing Called Love," so naturally they had nothing before that.
-Default and Evanescence both followed #1s to the top; Default hit #1 with "Wasting My Time," and Evanescence appeared at the top with "Bring Me To Life."
-Hilary Duff was a #1 virgin until "Come Clean" topped the chart.
-Miss Britney Spears had 13 number ones before "Toxic."
-"Harder To Breathe" failed to get to the top, so "This Love" was the first #1 for Maroon 5.
-Nelly Furtado had two number ones from her first album, so "Try" would make it 3 atop.
-Both lostprophets and Ben Jelen had their first Dan's Top 20 hit go to #1, so they both count in this case.
-Sarah McLachlan had a couple of #1 hits in 1998, so "Stupid" wasn't her first trip to the top.
-Finally, Hoobastank had their first #1 with "The Reason."
In the end, that makes 9 of 16 first timers

I had a streak of about 25 artists from 1997 to 1999 who had their first number one. This is impressive because I count number ones all the way back to 1987!
As for this year, Brand New (2nd hit) and Lostprophets (1st hit) had their first number ones.
I'm still researching the end of 1999 (because I lost the entire year's worth of charts), but The Offspring seems to have had 3 number ones off "Americana", and "Hit That" became their fourth this year.
Hoobastank hit number one before with their first hit "Crawling in the Dark", so "The Reason" is their second #1.
Blink's number one this year was their third. As my San Diego homies previously hit #1 with "Adam's Song" and "Stay Together For the Kids."
Wow, Hoobastank is going to be #1 for an eighth week in a row this weekend. Nobody in the top five is strong enough to overtake them! But I will have some high top 40 debuts by Muse, The Killers, Local H and Old 97's which will probably be 1-2-3-4 in a matter of a few weeks!

Evanescence previously hit #1 with "Bring Me To Life" before "My Immortal" reached there.
Christina Aguilera had 6 #1's before "The Voice Within".
Britney Spears also had 6 #1's before "Toxic"... and later this year, "Everytime" would hit #1.
Blink 182 had several top 10 hits, but never a #1... that is, before "I Miss You" got there.
Avril Lavigne already had "Complicated" and "I'm With You" to her credit, so when "Don't Tell Me" got to #1, she was no stranger.
Another artist with plenty of chart success, but his first #1 this year was Usher, who got his first chart-topper with "Burn".
Hoobastank hadn't been to #1 before "The Reason".
So there have been 3 newcomers to the #1 spot this year so far: Blink 182, Usher, and Hoobastank.
Seether hadn't charted before "Broken", which hit #1... of course, it's the third #1 for Amy Lee following her two with Evanescence.

OUTKAST hit number one for the first time in January with "Hey Ya", their 4th chart appearance. BRITNEY SPEARS scored her first chart topper with "Toxic", her 13th song to chart. ANNIE LENNOX finally reached #1 with "Into The West" after 26 chart entries going back to 1980. That total includes solo releases and as part of The Eurythmics and The Tourists. MAROON 5 spent 3 weeks at #1 with their second chart single, "This Love". That is a major improvement over "Harder To Breathe", which stalled at #37 last summer. MIKE VOGEL'S debut single produced by Jim Steinman, "I Will Crumble", made it to the top. LORETTA LYNN may be a country legend, but she had never climbed higher than #30 (and had only charted twice) on UU-BRU Internet Radio, before her collaboration with JACK WHITE hit #1 in May. It was also Jack White's first #1 single after 2 appearances with The White Stripes. FANTASIA BARRINO became the first AMERICAN IDOL alumni to hit #1 when she debuted at the top with her first single, "I Believe". DIANA DEGARMO followed Fantasia Barrino into the #1 spot with her own version of "I Believe".

Evanescence had their first #1 with "My Immortal".
Eamon had his first and most likely only #1 with "I Don't Want You Back".
Maroon 5 had their first #1 with "This Love", though "Harder To Breathe" came close.
Switchfoot had their first #1 with "Meant To Live".
Kylie Minogue scored her second #1 with "Red Blooded Woman", "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" being the other.
Hoobastank got their first #1 with "The Reason".
Ryan Cabrera had his first #1 with "On The Way Down".
6/7 got their first #1 in 2004.

- Dexter Freebish, the first #1 on the return of my chart scored their second #1 with "Prozak (Be Like Me)", it occupied the top slot for 3 weeks
- Borialis' first charting single (and likely last) hit the top spot for 2 weeks, meaning it was his first
- Eamon's first (and also likely last) charting single went to the top, for 2 weeks
- D12 had 2 previous charting singles prior to "My Band" (they currently have their 4th as "How Come" currently resides just outside the top ten) but neither "Purple Pills" nor "Fight Music could get to the top
- Seether with the help of former chart topper and lead singer of Evanescence Amy Lee then reached the top, for 3 weeks, it happened to be the first charting single by Seether, the 4th for Amy Lee.
- Hoobastank, fought a few weeks with Seether as who was at the top, but managed to get 5 weeks in total, they had charted twice before with "Crawling In the Dark" and "Running Away" but neither could go to the top, "The Reason" becoming their first
- The Rasmus first charting single was also their first #1 hit, "In the Shadows" was not strong enough to hold longer then 1 week, ("First Day Of My Life" could follow suit soon)
- Brad Paisley AND Alison Krauss both manage to grab their first ever number, it also happens to be the first time both appear on my chart

- Kelis started off the year at #1, which was her first ever #1 on my chart.
- Alicia Keys has been to #1 4 times on my chart with "Fallin'," "A Woman's Worth," "You Don't Know My Name," and "If I Ain't Got You."
- Beyoncé's also a four time #1 artist on my chart with "Crazy In Love," "Baby Boy," "Me, Myself, & I," and "Naughty Girl."
- Ruben Studdard had never been #1 before until "Sorry 2004" took the #1 spot.
- Twista logged in his first #1 ever on my chart with "Slow Jamz."
- "Yeah" was Usher's 3rd #1 on my chart, following "You Make Me Wanna," and "U Got It Bad."
- "All Falls Down" was Kanye West's first solo #1 ever on my chart, although he was #1 earlier in the year as a featured artist on Twista's "Slow Jamz."
- "Roses" was Outkast's 3rd #1 song on my chart. Although several of their songs have been on my Top 50 in the 8+ year existence of my chart, all three of their #1 songs came from 2003's "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" double-CD.
- Seeing as how JoJo is a new artist, it would be a neat trick for her to have had a #1 on my chart prior to "Leave (Get Out)" topping the chart.
- Current #1, "Freek-A-Leek," is Petey Pablo's first #1 on my Top 50.
That's six first-timers out of 12 #1s so far this year.

Hitting the Top spot for their first time this year for me:
No Doubt..."It's My Life". Their previous biggest "Don't Speak" hit #12.
Canadian Idol, Ryan Malcolm's second single, "Star Of All The Planets" did it.
Five For Fighting's "100 Years" took to the top. Their previous best was "Superman" which hit #3.
George Michael has his first "solo" #1 song with "Amazing". He hit the top spot twice with Wham "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and "I'm Your Man". He also hit the top spot with the band Queen for "Somebody To Love" back in 93.
Kimberley Locke proved a 3rd place Idol finish can still garner her a number one record, "8th World Wonder"
Sarah Connor's "Bounce"
Maroon 5's "This Love" bettered the #9 hit "Harder To Breathe.
Hilary Duff "Come Clean" did one better than the #2 song "So Yesterday"
Delta Goodrem "Born To Try"
Gretchen Wilson "Redneck Woman"
Calling "Our Lives" did one better than the #2 "Wherever You Will Go"
Hoobastank "The Reason
Fefe Dobson "Don't Go"
2004 is shaping up to be the year of the fresh new artists. #1 vetrans this year: Dixie Chicks, Alicia Keys, Melissa Etheridge, Sara Evans, Alanis Morissette.

Clay Aiken scored his first #1 on my chart this year with "Invisible". He previosuly charted with "This Is The Night" which peaked at #12.
No Doubt has had 4 hits chart, but "It's My Life" was their first #1 hit.
Jessica Simpson is also brand new to #1 spot with "With You". She has had 4 hits before that one, 3 of which went top 10.
Maroon 5 had their first #1 this year as well with "This Love". "Harder To Breathe" peaked at #12.
Switchfoot's "Dare You To Move" is the band's second top 10 and first #1 on my chart. Their other top 10, "Gone", peaked at #9.
Usher also scores his first #1 on my chart with "Yeah!". Before this song, he had two other top 10s ("U Remind Me" peaked at #10 and "U Got It Bad" peaked at #3).
Warren Barfield's "Soak It Up" becomes this artist's second #1 on my chart. Back in October, "My Heart Goes Out" reached #1 and this past winter/spring, "Mistaken" peaked at #3.
