8. Rob Thomas, "Lonely No More" Peak: #1 (1 Week) // Spins: 90 Now its hard for me with my heart still on the mend Open up to me, like you do your girlfriends And you sing to me and it's harmony Girl, what you do to me is everything Make me say anything; just to get you back again Why can we just try?Rob Thomas's solo project started off with a bang - that bang was "Lonely No More". The song came out and sounded like nothing else that was on the radio. Along with a unique sound, Rob made the song his own with his smooth vocals. In the song, Rob is telling his lover what's on his mind. He's telling her his insecurities, his needs, all of that. At first, I didn't care for the song, but it is just irressistable. As soon as it debuted, it just shot up the chart, until gaining a week at the very top. Nice job, Rob!

7. Ashlee Simpson, "LaLa" Peak: #1 (5 Weeks) // Spins: 75 *Holdover from 2004. Peaked at #4, and finished as #49.I feel safe with you I can be myself tonight It's alright, with you Cuz you hold my secrets tight You do, you do...After the SNL fiasco, Ashlee Simpson's single got changed, in the hopes of letting the girl have some fun. And this was the perfect song to switch to. The song is nearly 4 minutes of pop/rock bliss. It's not meant to be seriously - who could take "you make me wanna La La" seriously? No one in their right mind, let's hope - but just as a silly, catchy, fun song, and as such, it does its job. The song wasted no time in hitting #1 after breaking the top 5 last year, but most importantly, it stuck around, allowing it to become another huge hit for Ashlee.

6. Amerie, "Touch" Peak: #1 (5 Weeks) // Spins: 142 We over here makin' a scene, and I don't really care who sees I just want him to feel Another side of me...Amerie's second single was the perfect choice. Not only does it explain the thought behind her sophomore project, but it is just such a hot JAM! The beat is by Lil' Jon, and is quite possibly the best beat he has had, to date. The song has Amerie singing sexily, showing off that sexual side that most people assumed was dormant in her after her debut. But they were wrong. And Amerie is proving it, as she is singing coquettishly, letting this guy know that she is very interested. The video is great for the song, too, having Amerie dancing and just looking sexy, which admittedly isn't too hard to do, but she masters it as if it were an art. The song debuted at #28, one of the highest debuts of the year, and proceeded to hit the #1 spot, spending 5 consecutive weeks there.

5. Shakira ft. Alejandro Sanz, "La Tortura" Peak: #1 (3 Weeks) // Spins: 135 Mejor te guardas todo eso A otro perro con ese hueso Y nos decimos adiosOne word: Video. Anyone who saw the video, automatically loved this song, regardless of whether or not they even understood what the hell Shakira was saying. Who really cares, when you have a very sexy Shakira dancing around, moving in ways you never thought possible? (Well, okay, people did care for the song, but damn, that video was HOT!) The song is a hot latin jam, with Shakira realizing that she wants out of this relationship, and Alejandro Sanz trying to convince her that he's changed and wants to make it work. The song is the very first all-Spanish song to chart, and the very first Spanish song to hit #1. It spent three weeks at the top shortly after debuting. No doubt about it, this is Shakira at her best.

4. Gwen Stefani, "Hollaback Girl" Peak: #1 (3 Weeks) // Spins: 138 I heard that you were talking s**t And you didn't think that I would hear it People hear you talking like that, getting everybody fired up So I'm ready to attack, gonna lead the pack Gonna get a touchdown, gonna take you out That's right, put your pom-poms downs, getting everybody fired up!If you did not sing "this s**t is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S!" this year, something was wrong with you. This song scored Gwen her first #1 hit on the Hot 100, quite an impressive feat. The public just couldn't deny that this song was hot, considering how the song was the first to break a million downloads! That's truly incredible. Anyway, no one knows what the hell this song is about - some say it's a message to the folks who were saying she had sold out - but what we do know is that this is a very catchy song. The song rushed up to #1 back in May, scoring Gwen her third #1 hit on the chart.

3. Amerie, "1 Thing" Peak: #1 (3 Weeks) // Spins: 218 Hey, we don’t know each other well So why I keep pickin' up my cell? Memories just keep ringing bells (ding dong ding dong ding) Hear voices I don’t want to understand My car keys are jingling in my hand My high heels are clicking towards your door (ding dong ding dong ding)...If you know me well enough, you know I was addicted to this song this year. Between playing it a gazillion times during MSN, or sending the icon whenever it was played, it should've been pretty evident. lol. This is a sexy jam, although some hailed it a hot mess. I don't agree with the mess, but I do with the hot. The song has Amerie singing about this one thing that she feels when she's with her man, when she thinks about him, anything related to him. She doesn't clarify what it is, but we all have that one thing, so we all know. All of this is done over a repetitive drum loop, so addictive that it just makes you want to dance. The song was really a surprise for the chart - it wasn't expected to have been a hit at all. But Amerie overcame the odds and made it her year. The song hit #1 back in June, and six months later, it still sounds as good as it did that first time.

Gwen, Shakira and Amerie in the top five. ;D
Unless I am missing someting, that leaves only one artist to claim the final two slots.
I will have to guess the order of the two songs and wait to see which song claims the top spot.

I'm a bit surprised that Teairra's "Make Her Feel Good" wasn't on your top 10 most played songs on iTunes, though.

2. Kelly Clarkson, "Since U Been Gone" Peak: #1 (3 Weeks) // Spins: 332 *Holdover from 2004. Peaked at #5, finished as #50.You had your chance, you blew it! Out of sight, out of mind! Shut your mouth I just can't take it! Again and again and again and again!!!!
Since U Been Gone I can breathe for the first time! Im so movin' on, yeah yeah! Thanks to you (thanks to you) Now I get, I get what I want!! I can breathe for the first time Im so movin' on, yeah, yeah! Thanks to you (thanks to you) Now I get (I get) You should know (you should know) That I get, I get what I want! Since U Been Gone Since U Been Gone Since U Been Gone...This song is, by far, one of the most successful tracks my chart has ever had. It started the year off in the top five, and held there for over two months, before finally hitting #1. Even then, the damn song wouldn't die. It kept falling, but just resurfaced. It fell as low as the low 20's once, and then jumped back up to the top 10! That is simply amazing. This is the catchiest song Kelly Clarkson has ever had, and is just a great song, overall. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I can dedicate this song to someone, but that's a whole other story. Back when I saw Kelly live in October, the crowd was completely into this song, jumping along at her insistence. This is why Kelly has become a household name.
