Time for the top 20! Can't believe we reached it so soon! 20. 3 Doors Down, "Let Me Go" Peak: #4 // Spins: 22 How can this love be a good thing? When I know what I'm goin' through... When this song came out, I knew it was going to be big for 3 Doors Down on the chart. It is a poppy tune about a relationship falling apart. It almost instantly gets stuck in your head. Perhaps the best thing that the song has going for it though is the video, which I was lucky enough to see on VH1 almost every single morning for about three months. lol. The guys score their second biggest hit on the chart with this one. 19. Ashanti, "Only U" Peak: #1 (4 Weeks) // Spins: 45 *Holdover from 2004. Peaked at #3, finished as #31. You gotta be the realest thing that I have ever felt And I'll do what I gotta do to keep you to myself... Anyone who says that this song was not big on G's Weekly Top 40 does not know what they are talking about. Not only did this Hip-Hop-Rock-JAM manage to hit #1 in 2005, but it hung around a long time - long enough to give Ashanti a top 20 hit on the year-end, even after her success last year. Who would've thought that a hot beat with sexy vocals could get someone this far? This is Ashanti at her best. Keep it up! 18. Backstreet Boys, "Incomplete" Peak: #2 // Spins: 39 Baby, my baby It’s written on your face You still wonder if we made a big mistake... The Backstreet Boys tried their best to make a comeback, and although they screwed the process up, the way they began was good! "Incomplete" is a great song, definitely made by AJ's raspy vocals. To me, the song has always been some kind of dark tune. The lyrics tell the story of a man who cannot let go of a past relationship, which isn't anything new, but the way AJ sings it makes the song what it is. The guys had a steady rise and took it all the way to #2. Definitely a great way to make a comeback! 17. JoJo, "Not That Kinda Girl" Peak: #1 (2 Weeks) // Spins: 41 I dont think it's fair You don't like the clothes I wear How I do my hair I don't really care JoJo's third single came in the form of a nice pop/R&B song. In it, JoJo is telling her man that she's not an ordinary girl. She's not the kind of girl to be "on a cell phone, frontin'". She's got more class than that! But even then, she's independent - so don't mess with her. The song earned JoJo her third top ten hit, and her second #1. Score for JoJo! 16. The Killers, "Mr. Brightside" Peak: #6 // Spins: 21 Jealousy, turning saints into the sea Swimming through sick lullabies Choking on your alibis But it’s just the price I pay Destiny is calling me Open up my eager eyes ‘Cause I’m Mr Brightside... Perhaps the biggest surprise this year was "Mr. Brightside". It was a different sound after "Somebody Told Me", and the subject matter was definitely a lot more serious and mature. The lyrics are very catchy - at least, the sounds of the lyrics, because I didn't get the lyrics up until a while ago, lol - mostly because they're repetitive, so it's clear that the music is what makes this song. Also, that creative video didn't hurt a bit. The guys broke the top 10, and although they couldn't break the top 5, they're not exactly hurting, as their song is the only non top-5 song in the top 20. Congrats!

15. Pussycat Dolls, "Don't Cha" Peak: #2 // Spins: 93 Don't cha wish your girlfriend was hot like me? Don't cha wish your girlfriend was a freak like me? The Pussycat Dolls came out of nowhere this year, and they did it with a bang. They showed up with a raunchy song, meant to tease and provoke, something that would have made Christina Aguilera proud back during the "Dirrty" days. These girls are ready to take men left and right! Ladies, watch out! This fun summer jam kept going even when it seemed impossible, and got all the way to #2. Who said a little tease was a bad thing? 14. Gwen Stefani ft. Eve, "Rich Girl" Peak: #1 (1 Week) // Spins: 66 All the riches baby, won't mean anything All the riches baby, won't bring what your love can bring All the riches baby, won't mean anything Don't need no other baby Your lovin' is better than gold and I know! When "Rich Girl" was announced as the second single, I was upset. WHY?!?! Well, after hearing it on the radio and it sounding so good, I understood! What a catchy song! Gwen and Eve mesh well together, and this song is proof. By the time I had heard the song about 5 extra times, I couldn't get it out of my head - and that proved to be a blessing for Gwen. The song started off slowly, but once it took off - it did just that. It spent a week at #1, earning Gwen her second #1 hit on the chart. 13. Ashlee Simpson, "Boyfriend" Peak: #1 (3 Weeks) // Spins: 153 Please stop telling all your friends I'm getting sick of them Always staring at me like I took him from ya! Ashlee's return in 2005 was conducted quite well. Catchy song? Check. Controversial subject matter? Check. New look? Check. It was all in the bag. The insanely catchy song, according to Ashlee, is about what every girl goes through when another girl accuses her of having stolen her boyfriend. Of course, the public believed that the song was a diss to Lindsay Lohan, although Ashley Olsen was a possibility. Whoever it was meant for - if anyone - they should be thanked, because this song rocked the chart. With the second highest debut of the year, at #23, "Boyfriend" wasted no time in hitting the top spot, scoring Ashlee her third #1 hit on the chart. Rock on. 12. Black Eyed Peas, "Don't Phunk With My Heart" Peak: #3 // Spins: 63 I wonder if I take you home Would you still be in love, baby? In love, baby? The Black Eyed Peas had a great year in 2005 - and this was the song that started it all. Besides the fact that the lyrics quickly get stuck in your head, the beat is addictive! Some say it's a hot mess, but I think it's just pure hotness! The song has Fergie stretching her legs with her vocals, and that definitely helped it out in the long run. The song scored the Black Eyed peas another top 3 hit, and to date, is their biggest song on the chart (not the highest-peaking, but the most successful). Yes, Fergie, we were still in love. 11. Lifehouse, "You And Me" Peak: #2 // Spins: 48 All of the things that I want to say just aren't coming out right I'm tripping on words, you've got my head spinnin' I don't know where to go from here... Lifehouse came back in a big way in 2005, unexpectedly. Within the first 5 spins, I thought "aww, this is a nice, romantic song...I like it!" But somewhere along the line, I became hooked! Perhaps it was the fact that the song was one of the very few good, slow love songs out at the time, or maybe just the fact that this baby is so damn good, but either way, the song blew up on the chart. The guys got all the way up to #2, and rightfully so.

10. Gwen Stefani, "Cool" Peak: #2 // Spins: 103 And I'll be happy for you, if you can be happy for me Circles and triangles, and now we're hangin' out with your new girlfriend So far from where we've been I know we're cool...Once you've had three #1 hits, your name is set, no matter what. This happened for Ms. Stefani. This 80's-influenced pop tune has Gwen reminiscing on her relationship with fellow bandmate Tony Kanal, and coming to the realization that "after all that we've been through, I know we're cool". The song scored Gwen yet another massive hit. And, although this one missed out on the top spot, to say it was huge is hardly doing it justice. Congrats to Gwen on having the only song in the top 10 that did not hit #1!

9. Ryan Cabrera, "Shine On" Peak: #1 (2 Weeks) // Spins: 155 I've given every moment I had Still I can never seem to keep up with you You're done with one mile, and on to another one thousand Still I could never seem to keep up with you...Ryan Cabrera had a big year last year! Scoring the #3 song of the year is nothing to be scoffed at, and "On The Way Down" nabbed the #3 song of 2004. For his comeback, Ryan changed it up just a little bit - the vocals got softer, and the lyrics changed. Here, he is singing to a former flame, letting her know that he's got her back. Girls everywhere - and some guys too - had their hearts melted, and Ryan was even praised as "the perfect ex" by Teen People Magazine. He definitely did his thing with this song. It wasted no time in hitting the top spot, scoring Ryan another solid hit.
