All 5 of those songs are excellent ;D With the exception of Vanessa (who was #80), they all made my year-end top 20.

15. Jessica Simpson - Take My Breath Away. Pk: #2.Watching I keep waiting Still anticipating love...Jessica Simpson's cover of Berlin's "Take My Breath Away" was one of the best pop tunes of 2004, both musically and vocally. This love ballad tells the story of two lovers who are ready to fall in love. It doesn't hurt that I happen to be a hopeless romantic. More than that, this song was simply brilliant. Whoever advised Jessica to redo this song was a genius. Kudos to everyone involved in this beauty. 14. Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For. Pk: #1 (3 Weeks)+.Look at your watch now! You're still a super-hot female! You got your million dollar contract! And they're all waiting for your hot track!Gwen Stefani's solo project was solely for fun, as she said. She wanted to create an album that contained a bunch of songs that you couldn't help but love. Leading off the album is the first release, "What You Waiting For", 4 minutes of pure dance bliss, contain Gwen battling her fears about this solo project, all the while delivering an infectious hook powered by an amped-up beat. Gwen definitely met her goal. 13. Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved. Pk: #1 (1 Week).I know where you hide Alone in your car Know all of the things that make you who you are I know that goodbye means nothing at all Comes back and begs me to catch her every time she falls...Maroon 5's "She Will Be Loved" was huge on G's Weekly Top 40. Spending 19 weeks in the top 10, Maroon 5 was definitely a success with this sexy love song. And it can't hurt that the video contains the beautiful Kelly Preston. 12. Nickelback - Someday. Pk: #1 (3 Weeks).I wish you'd unclench your fists, and unpack your suitcase Lately there's been too much of this But don't think it's too lateNickelback's "Someday" was huge. Telling the story of a couple that's facing difficulty but still has hope, this song was always a sure-fire hit. And accompanying this is a video that had me each time I'd see it, although it turns out fine in the end. The boys of Nickelback did very well with this one. 11. Christina Milian - Dip It Low. Pk: #1 (1 Week).Dip it low Pick it up slow Roll it all around Poke it out like your back broke Pop pop pop that thing Imma show you how to make your man say "Ooo"...One of the sexiest hits of the year was Christina Milian's "Dip It Low". As was said on VH1, Christina is not asking young women to go out and become whores - she's just saying, if you're going to be one, do it right. Well, this song definitely provides that, serving as a how-to manual for sex. And the video contains sexy siren Milian doing dance moves half-naked - enough to make any guy drool. She's definitely shown every man how to say "Ooo"...

10. Alicia Keys - If I Ain't Got You. Pk: #1 (1 Week). Some people want it all But I don't want nothing at all If it ain't you baby If I ain't got you baby Some people want diamond rings Some just want everything But everything means nothing If I ain't got you Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You" was one of the best love ballads of the year. Alicia is saying that none of the material things in life matter - all that she cares about is her love. She would give it all away just for the one she loves. Such a beautiful message delivered in such beautiful lyrics by such a beautiful diva obviously take one very far. Alicia has this year's #10 song.

9. Avril Lavigne - My Happy Ending. Pk: #1 (3 Weeks). It's nice to know that you were there Thanks for acting like you cared And making me feel like I was the only one It's nice to know we had it all Thanks for watching as I fall And letting me know we were done
He was everything, everything that I wanted... Avril Lavigne's "Under My Skin" contains a number of fabulous songs - but this track is obviously the stand-out track. Upon purchasing, this track was an immediate favorite. And as luck would have it, this track was also the second single. Everything from this track is great - from the music to the vocals. This is Avril's biggest hit, to date, on G's Weekly Top 40.

8. Christina Aguilera - The Voice Within. Pk: #1 (7 Weeks) (+3 Weeks in 2003). Life is a journey It can take you anywhere you choose to go As long as you're learning You'll find all you'll ever need to know... Christina Aguilera's 5th single from "Stripped" came as a ballad with a positive, uplifting message behind it. Christina is urging us to follow our instincts. A simple ballad, the best it has to offer is Christina's spectacular vocals - and that obviously takes this song very far. It managed to spend a whooping 10 weeks atop the chart. This was the song that held No Doubt and Kelis from the top spot during December and January. This song was also the #7 song of the year in 2003.

7. JoJo - Leave (Get Out) Pk: #1 (1 Week).I wanted you right here with me but I have no choice you gotta leave Because my heart is breakin' With every word I'm sayin' I gave up everything I had On something that just wouldn't last But I refuse to cry No tears will fall from these eyes... New-comer JoJo debued onto the scene as a 13 year old with unbelivable vocal abilities. Upon hearing this song - a midtempo ballad in which JoJo is asking her boyfriend to leave, as he has caused the end of their relationship - one would assume that JoJo was in her twenties. Surprise surprise, this hitmaker is not even legal yet! But she's still got tons of talent. And although JoJo only spent one week atop the chart, her chart run is enough to qualify a top 10 year-end showing.

6. Toby Lightman - Real Love Pk: #1 (4 Weeks)+. Oooh, when I met you I just knew that You would take my heart and run Until you told me how you felt for me You said I'm not the one So I slowly came to see All of the things that you were made of And now I hope my dreams and inspirations Lead me to want some real love When I was first told that Toby Lightman, who was already an established favorite due to "Devils And Angels" (#78) was going into the studio to record a cover of Mary J. Blige's "Real Love", I had no doubt in my mind that Toby would shine through. And of course, she did. I was left shocked that Toby did such a great job with this song - I love the original, and was astonished to find that I love this one even more. This song became my jam over the summer, and spent 4 weeks atop my chart, allowing Toby to claim the #6 song of the year.

5. Maroon 5 - This Love. Pk: #1 (4 Weeks). This love has taken its toll on me She said Goodbye too many times before And her heart is breaking in front of me I have no choice cause I won't say goodbye anymore... After "Harder To Breathe" came out, I went out and purchased Maroon 5's "Songs About Jane". I was expecting a certain sound, but didn't get that, and so I figured Maroon 5 was over. I was sure that they'd be a one-hit wonder. Enter "This Love". Upon hearing this on radio, I was immediately into this song, and was surprised to hear that this was Maroon 5's song. While this song did some serious butt-kicking on my chart, I went back to the CD with more of an open-mind, and have loved it ever since. Maroon 5 is a favorite of mine, thanks in large part to "This Love".

4. Britney Spears - Toxic. Pk: #1 (5 Weeks). With a taste of your lipsI'm on a ride You're toxic I'm slipping under With a taste of a poison paradise I'm addicted to you Don't you know that you're toxic? And I love what you do Don't you know that you're toxic? Britney Spears' "In The Zone" contains a number of dance tracks, all made for radio. Each track has it's own appeal, but the best offering on the CD is easily "Toxic". Nearly 4 minutes of dance bliss, this song has you both singing and dancing along from start to finish. This is, by far, Britney's best song of her career, and in celebration, Britney has the 4th biggest song of the year on G's Weekly Top 40. Kudos to you, Ms. Spears. ;D

3. Ryan Cabrera - On The Way Down. Pk: #1 (5 Weeks). On the way down I saw you And you saved me From myself And I won't forget The way you loved me On the way down I almost fell right through But I held on to you... I remember the first time I heard this song. It was during the summer, and it came on the Music Choice channel, Hit List. As soon as I heard the opening chords, I turned from the computer and looked at both the title of the song and the name of the artist. By the end of the song, I was entranced. I had downloaded the song, and had registered onto his message boards. With a start like that, it's without surprise that this song had a fabulous chart run, including 5 weeks at the top. Quite an impressive debut for Mr. Cabrera.

2. Dido - White Flag. Pk: #1 (3 Weeks). I will go down with this ship And I won't put my hands up and surrender There will be no white flag above my door I'm in love and always will be... Pop diva Dido came out with one of the most beautiful and heartwrenching songs of the year with "White Flag". Dido is telling her former lover that it is indeed over, but is really thinking that she will always be in love with him. From her soft voice to her spectacular lyrics, this song was a sure-fire hit. It was on last year's year-end chart, lost somewhere in the middle as it began steadying itself on it's legs - and this year is the runner-up.
