3. Britney Spears - Toxic PEAK: #1 (7 weeks)With a taste of your lips I'm on a ride You're toxic I'm slipping under With a taste of a poison paradise I'm addicted to you Don't you know that you're toxic? And I love what you do But you know that you're toxicI'm sure this may surprise some of you who expected it to be #1, but it was still a great year for Britney, with 2 songs coming in the top 5 for the year! "Toxic" is one of 4 songs on my chart to spend a record 7 weeks at #1 in February and March, and it did become one of Britney's biggest hits ever all over the world, but still, 2 songs managed to beat it this year on my chart! Who got the #1 song of 2004... Maroon 5 or Hoobastank? UK Singles: #1 Billboard Hot 100: #9 R&R CHR/Pop: #1 Globalchart Top 50: #2 THO Top 100: #1

2. Hoobastank - The ReasonI'm not a perfect person I never meant to do those things to you And so i have to say before i go That i just want you to know
I found a reason for me To change who i used to be A reason to start over new And the reason is youWe're up to the runner-up spot, and at #2 is a song by a band that, until 2004, had only limited successes. This changed with some of the year's most powerful lyrics, helping Hoobastank get a massive hit, and likely a future classic, and finishing as my second favourite song of the year. So I'm sure you all know who managed to beat out Hoobastank and claim the title of my favourite song of the year! UK Singles: #12 Billboard Hot 100: #2 R&R CHR/Pop: #1 Globalchart Top 50: #1 THO Top 100: #1

1. Maroon 5 - She Will Be LovedBeauty queen of only eighteen She had some trouble with herself He was always there to help her She always belonged to someone else
I drove for miles and miles And wound up at your door I've had you so many times but somehow I want more
I don't mind spending everyday Out on your corner in the pouring rain Look for the girl with the broken smile Ask her if she wants to stay awhile And she will be loved She will be loved
Tap on my window knock on my door I want to make you feel beautiful I know I tend to get insecure It doesn't matter anymore
It's not always rainbows and butterflies It's compromise that moves us along My heart is full and my door's always open You can come anytime you want
I don't mind spending everyday Out on your corner in the pouring rain Look for the girl with the broken smile Ask her if she wants to stay awhile And she will be loved She will be loved
I know where you hide Alone in your car Know all of the things that make you who you are I know that goodbye means nothing at all Comes back and begs me to catch her every time she fallsAfter "This Love", I wasn't sure if they'd ever come out with a song as good again! But they followed it up with an even better song that has come out above all others in 2004. This song, which upon hearing I purchased their album "Songs About Jane", spent 3 weeks at #1 on my chart in August, and has been in my top 100 for 37 weeks so far, and was still charting as of the last week of 2004. So while it didn't spend as long on top as some other songs, "She Will Be Loved" by Maroon 5 still comes on top of my top 100 songs of 2004. UK Singles: #4 Billboard Hot 100: #5 R&R CHR/Pop: #1 Globalchart Top 50: #2 THO Top 100: #1

Very good chart, Bry. I'm somewhat disappointed to see Britney bested by Hoobastank, but it's alright, as Britney did have two songs in the top 5. That's quite a feat. I'm happy to see the boys of Maroon 5 at the top of your chart. This was a big year for Maroon 5, and they deserved every last bit of it, as far as I'm concerned.
