I think Kelly's been able to distance herself from the show, while still embracing the fact that it made her a star. Her success, however, has come due to strong material.
However, after Kelly, it's going to be hard for a new "star" to make their way into the industry for more than 1 album, because at this point, you can time everything perfectly. Show finishes in May, single sometime in June, with an album by the end of the year.
I don't care how good the singer is, they'll pretty much always have the tag "from American Idol" because everything has been so precise as of late.
So congrats to Kelly for becoming a legitimate star, but Ruben, Fantasia, Carrie... good luck.

I think Carrie has a chance....in country. Unfortunately, no one cares about country anymore (did they ever)?

I didn't even follow American Idol this latest season nor the last season. It's like I don't even care for the show anymore. It is too much of a hypefest for me.
