Alright, so I finally watched when I got home from work, and the quality wasn't the greatest on tape, but hey, none the less...
Nadia - Honestly, I was disappointed by her this week. After last week's show stopping performance, she failed to deliver. Song selection is a place she seems to have problems in, and tonight's song wasn't exactly the best known to draw a lot of attention to her. Given, that may work to her advantage after a weak vocal performance, but I can still see a lot of her fans giving votes other places.
Bo - Bo was... Bo. I've come to not expect a hell of a lot from him, because his performances always seem a little too similar for my liking. "Free Bird" is a great song, and if you ask me, Bo sure as hell didn't make me want to listen to it. A sub-par performance.
Anwar - This guy also keeps disappointing me. He seems to be able to sing, but his song selections consistantly suck!
Anthony - Anthony had a much better week than he's had lately, but he's nothing special. He's still somebody my mother would listen to. He's not taking the kind of risks in song choices that get him noticed. In real life, he could find a pretty decent market in AC, and he'd sell a lot of CDs to teenage girls, but he's not showing the versatility in order to be the American Idol.
Vonzelle - Yeah, she had a couple of pitch problems, but I was impressed. Vonzelle is one of the performers I look forward to week in and week out. And she was just gorgeous this week, to boot. Vonzelle really seems to be having a good time, and her song selection this week showed that. I mean, come on - Denise Williams? That's basically a gay anthem these days. But the girl pulled it off. Bravo.
Scott - You know, I've never really warmed up to Scott. I don't know what it is. Guess in the long run, I just don't much care for his voice. That said, his performance this week was a vast improvement over last week's dreadful showing. He actually took the song, and made it his own, something that could have been quite difficult with Hall & Oates in the audience. Simon was right that there were problems, but I'm willing to look past a few of those.
Carrie - When Carrie said she'd be performing "Love Is A Battlefield," I immediatly cringed. What a lot of people fail to know is that Pat Benatar is a classically trained opera singer. That enabled her to shift her vocals as drastically as she did in a number of her songs. Carrie wasn't able to do so. The song was sung in one tone the entire performance, and it didn't work for her. Yeah, it was Carrie having more fun. I mean, it's the most personality we've seen out of her the whole competition, but personality combined with a weak vocal performance doesn't get you the win. Carrie needs to develop more character.
Constantine - Gotta hand it to this guy - he out-rocked Bo, a guy who's taken rock on almost every week. Constantine is an unusual fella... the kinda guy who can perform Bonnie Raitt one week, and Queen two weeks later. They have rather different styles, and Constantine is showing through his song selection that he's far from one-dimentional. It's working for him, for sure. Watch this guy make Top 4, easily.
Rankings:
1. Vonzelle
2. Constantine
3. Anthony
4. Scott
5. Carrie
6. Nadia
7. Bo
8. Anwar
