I don't like Chingy generally... he's had a few songs that were unbearable, but a few tolerable ones like "One Call Away" and "Pullin' Me Back" too.

#89. JoJo
Biggest Hit of the 00s: Leave (Get Out)
Biggest Album of the 00s: JoJo
Other Singles from the 00s: Baby It's You (with Bow Wow), Not That Kinda Girl, Too Little Too Late, How To Touch A Girl & Anything.
Biography of the 00s: Joanna Noëlle Levesque known by her stage name JoJo, is an American platinum-selling pop and R&B singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress.
She rose to fame in 2004 with her platinum-certified, self-titled debut album JoJo which reached number four on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. JoJo has also begun a film career, starring in two 2006 Hollywood films: Aquamarine and RV. Her second album, The High Road, was released on October 17, 2006. In the summer of 2007, JoJo will be embarking on her The High Road Tour, in the U.S. and Europe.
JoJo's stage name comes from a childhood nickname. After appearing on talk shows and gospel festivals and competing on the television show, America's Most Talented Kids, record producer Vincent Herbert contacted her and asked her to audition for Blackground Records. During her audition for Barry Hankerson, Hankerson told her that the spirit of his niece, the late singer Aaliyah, had brought her to him. She was signed to the label, and had recording sessions with famed producers like The Underdogs and Soulshock & Karlin.
JoJo's live demo, Joanna Levesque, recorded in 2001, features covers of several well-known soul/R&B songs, including Wilson Pickett's 1966 "Mustang Sally", Etta James's 1989 "It Ain't Always What You Do (It's Who You Let See You Do It)", Aretha Franklin's 1968 "Chain of Fools" and 1969 "The House That Jack Built", The Moonglows' 1956 "See Saw", Stevie Wonder's 1972 "Superstition", and The Temptations' 1975 "Shakey Ground". The demo is sometimes available on eBay.
JoJo's Platinum-certified debut single "Leave (Get Out)" was released in 2004. The track became an international hit, peaking at number twelve on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, number two on the UK Singles Chart, and number two on the Australian Singles Chart. When the single hit number one on the Top 40 Mainstream, she became, at age thirteen, the youngest solo artist to have a number-one single in America and also the youngest nominee for a MTV Video Music Award ("Best New Artist" for "Leave (Get Out)", in 2004). Her debut album, the Platinum-selling JoJo, followed; it peaked at number four on the U.S. Billboard 200 and number ten on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, selling about 107,000 copies and reaching the top forty of the UK Albums Chart. The album has sold a total of almost 1.5 million copies in the U.S. JoJo co-wrote two of the album's songs, as well as wrote and co-produced one full track. Her second single, the Gold-selling "Baby It's You" — which features rapper Bow Wow — peaked at number twenty-two in the U.S. and number eight in the UK.
The final single off the album, "Not That Kinda Girl", released in 2005, failed to make waves on the charts. The song hit number eight on the TRL daily countdown for one day but then fell from the charts, never to appear on the countdown again.
In 2004, JoJo participated in "Come Together Now", a charity single to benefit the victims of the 2004 Asian Tsunami and the 2005 Hurricane Katrina. That year, she was personally requested by First Lady Laura Bush to perform at the 2004 Christmas in Washington special, broadcast by TNT and hosted by Dr. Phil and his wife Robin McGraw. Despite performing at other events for the Republican Party, she has stated that she does not "agree with the things that President George W. Bush has done in office. I'll leave it at that". JoJo has also hosted and performed at the Hope Rocks concert in 2005 to benefit City of Hope Cancer Center and co-hosted the 2006 TV Guide Channel's countdown to the Grammy Awards.
JoJo's second album, The High Road, was released on October 17, 2006. The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 behind Diddy's Press Play and Evanescence's The Open Door. It was produced by Scott Storch, Swizz Beatz, Jonathan "J.R." Rotem, Corey Williams, and Ryan Leslie. It has received mainly positive reviews.
On March 16, The Second JammX Kids All Star Dance Special aired a new song by JoJo titled "Anything", which samples Toto's 1982 hit single "Africa". In the summer of 2006, the lead single from her second album, "Too Little Too Late", was released to radio stations. The single debuted at number ninety on the Billboard Hot 100 and, in its fifth week on the chart, lept from number sixty to number three. This song has been JoJo's most successful single in the U.S. so far. It also showcases that JoJo is capable of hitting notes in the whistle register. The October 27, 2006 issue of Entertainment Weekly refers to JoJo in the review for her latest album as "a vocal phenomenon, capable of Mariah Carey-style upper register flourishes". It has also reached number one on iTunes Top Songs after its release as a digital download on September 12, 2006. "Too Little Too Late" has been JoJo's most successful single in the U.S. so far. The album's second official single, "How to Touch a Girl", experienced less success. It charted just outside the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number seventy-six on the Billboard Pop 100. "Let It Rain" was released for airplay only. JoJo later stated on her MySpace that the third single would be "Anything". She has also stated that she will be touring in the summer of 2007 in the U.S. and Europe in support of The High Road.
JoJo has stated that her third album will not be released until she turns eighteen because she wants fans to "see growth" in her music.

#88. Daniel Beddingfield
Biggest Hit of the 00s: If You're Not The One
Biggest Album of the 00s: Gotta Get Thru This
Other Singles from the 00s: Gotta Get Thru This, James Dean (I Wanna Know), I Can't Read You, Never Gonna Leave Your Side, Friday, Nothing Hurts Like Love, Wrap My Words Around You, The Way & Do They Know It's Christmas? (with Band Aid 20).
Biography of the 00s: Daniel Bedingfield is a New Zealand born, UK based singer songwriter. He is the brother of pop singer Natasha Bedingfield. He and Natasha share the Guinness World Record for being the first and only siblings to have had solo number-ones in UK chart history.
After his song "Gotta Get Thru This" gathered momentum on white label, surprisingly through the underground garage music scene, it went on to become a #1 hit in the UK Top 40 in December 2001. He has since had 2 more #1 singles ("If You're Not The One" and "Never Gonna Leave Your Side"), as well as three further top 10 hits. His debut album, also titled Gotta Get Thru This, reached #2 in the UK albums chart and went on to sell more than 4 million copies.
In 2003 he appeared on the Delirious? album World Service, singing guest backing vocals on "Every Little Thing". On 23rd March 2003, he appeared in an episode of Popworld.
On New Year's Day 2004, Bedingfield nearly lost his life in a severe car accident in which he was visiting his parents. As a result, he was left with serious head and neck injuries from which he took six months to recover.
He was subsequently signed to Polydor Records and has been one of their most successful artists in recent years. As well as critical acclaim, he won a BRIT Award in 2004 for Best British Male Artist.
In 2004, he released a second album, Second First Impression, which reached #8 in the UK. As yet it has sold very poorly compared to his first offering. The first single, "Nothing Hurts Like Love", reached #3 in the UK. The second, "Wrap My Words Around You", peaked at number 12. The third and final single, "The Way", became his first to miss the top 40, reaching #41. He also was a guest star as himself on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch in the episode "The Lyin', The Witch and the Wardrobe".
In a recent April interview with the New Zealand Herald, the singer said that "after a three-year hiatus, following his album Second First Impression, he now has three albums recorded and awaiting release."
His first performance in his native New Zealand was on 19th April 2007, at the opening of Auckland's new Vector Arena - he sang three songs, including Gotta Get Thru and If You're Not the One.

#87. Jet
Biggest Hit of the 00s: Are You Gonna Be My Girl
Biggest Album of the 00s: Get Born
Other Singles from the 00s: Rollover D.J., Look What You've Done, Cold Hard Bitch, Get Me Outta Here, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, Bring It On Back, Rip It Up, Shine One & Stand Up.
Biography of the 00s: Jet is a rock band from Melbourne, Australia, whose debut album Get Born, released in 2003, has so far sold over four million copies throughout the world. The band is influenced by groups such as Queen, The Beatles, Oasis, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Easybeats, The Faces, and The Kinks
Brothers Nic Cester and Chris Cester grew up in Dingley Village, Victoria listening to classic rock from the 1960s and 1970s such as The Who, AC/DC, Queen, The Easybeats, The Faces, The Loved Ones and particularly The Rolling Stones and The Beatles; these were their father's records.
"It's always interpreted that our father had a great record collection, but that's not true. It was actually a really shit collection that Nic managed to find the gems in", Chris said in an interview for the documentary "Take It Or Leave It" that was also recorded on the band's Right! Right! Right! live DVD.
They decided to form a band with Cameron Muncey, Nic's mate from school and with whom he had been in a band, and with bassist Doug Armstrong whom Nic and Chris met whilst working together at their Dad's spice factory.
During 2001 an old high school friend of Chris' joined the band on keyboards, and it was at this time that the band took their current name from the song "Jet" from Wings' 1973 album Band on the Run. "Radio Song", from their album Get Born, was written about the troubles that the band had getting recognition at this time.
The new band met Mark Wilson one night in 2002 at a gig and, despite already having a bass player, asked him to play with them. Wilson was then the bassist in a band called The Ca$inos, so he initially declined. However, a few days later he called the band and said he would like to join them instead.
In 2002 the band, consisting of its current members, released the Dirty Sweet EP, which drew its name from the T. Rex song "Get It On". While the band only pressed 1,000 copies, there was such a demand that they pressed 1,000 more. The timing of this record coincided with the breakthrough of The Vines, meaning that international interest in Australian rock bands was high. NME obtained a copy of the single from Dirty Sweet, "Take It or Leave It", and praised it. Elektra Records offered the band a contract and re-released Dirty Sweet in 2003.
Jet entered the Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles with Dave Sardy to produce their debut album Get Born. Sardy had previously produced records for Marilyn Manson and The Dandy Warhols. They also enlisted the services of keyboard maestro Billy Preston for two of the songs. The album derived its name from a line in the Bob Dylan song "Subterranean Homesick Blues" from Bringing It All Back Home. Halfway through recording, the band received a call from The Rolling Stones offering them a support slot on the Australian leg of their 2003 tour.
Their singles "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" and "Rollover DJ" were voted number one and number nineteen respectively on the 2003 Triple J Hottest 100. "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" appeared on the soundtrack to the game Madden NFL 2004. It was also part of two major worldwide advertising campaigns for Apple's iPod and Vodafone. Get Born also includes the song "Timothy", dedicated to vocalist/guitarist Cameron Muncey's brother, who died before he was born. Due to the sensitive nature of the song, the band rarely plays "Timothy" live.[citation needed]
In early 2004, Jet teamed up with The Vines and The Living End on "the Aussie invasion" tour of US cities. A new Jet song not included on Get Born, called "Hold On", was featured on the Spider-Man 2 soundtrack that year. TV/film producer J.J. Abrams - whose credits include Lost and Felicity - contacted Jet to record a song for the Season 4 premiere to his show Alias. "Cold Hard Bitch" from Get Born was used, and became the soundtrack to a frenetic scene of two CIA agents sprinting down a Hong Kong street, giving Jet further US exposure.
Later the same year, the band was nominated in seven categories at the ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) music awards. These included single and album of the year. At the awards ceremony on the 17 October 2004 Jet received six awards out of the seven nominations. Nic Cester also performed as part of supergroup The Wrights, featuring members of other Australian rock bands Spiderbait (Kram, drums), The Living End (Chris Cheney, guitar), Dallas Crane (Pat Bourke, bass) and You Am I/The Pictures (Davey Lane, guitar).
The album was criticised for being derivative of many classic rock artists such as The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and AC/DC. There were also claims that these bands not only influenced the album, but riffs and melodies from individual songs by other artists made their way onto songs from Get Born. These included Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" ("Come Around Again"), The Beatles' "Sexy Sadie", "Let It Be", "Golden Slumbers", "Fool on the Hill", John Lennon's "Imagine" ("Look What You've Done"), Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life" ("Are You Gonna Be My Girl?"), Bachman-Turner Overdrive's "Takin' Care of Business" ("Rollover D.J.") and Deep Purple's "Woman from Tokyo" ("Cold Hard Bitch").
However, in an Allmusic.com review of "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?", the song was praised for its immediate appeal despite its resemblance to "Lust for Life", saying "Whether 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl?' is creatively bankrupt, or just an extreme example of how all music is influenced by what came before it, is up for debate... Either way, the song is impossible to ignore."
Jet was a supporting act for Oasis during the latter's 2005 tour for Don't Believe the Truth, about which they commented: "f*ck... We still can't believe we're here with Oasis".
The debut single from the band's second album Shine On, titled "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is", was released to radio on August 7, 2006. Shine On was released on October 1, 2006 (October 3 in the US) with a final track listing of 15 songs. Shine On debuted at #3 on the Australian charts and has failed to match the success of Get Born. Critical reaction to the album was mixed; British music magazine NME, for instance, called the record "another joyfully old-fashioned rock'n'roll album immersed in the classics," while the American review site Pitchfork Media posted a totally anomalous review containing only a video clip of a chimpanzee urinating in its own mouth. Rolling Stone said that the album sounded too much like Oasis while also praising songs such as "Eleanor" and "Stand Up".
Jet played at the MTV Europe Awards in Copenhagen. It was their first live performance since Nic Cester's laryngitis halted their World Tour. In November 2006 they flew back to Australia to perform at the Make Poverty History Concert in Melbourne at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, upon their return they also held a secret show on a barge floating on the Yarra River. The second singles from the album Bring It on Back (UK) and Rip It Up (AUS) were released in November 2006. An EP was created for the album. The Shine On EP was released December 2006 in the USA only. Shine On was released on various dates in March 2007 around the world as the third single (second single in some countries). Stand Up is rumoured to be the fourth single from the album but it has yet to be announced.
The song 'Shine On', which eventually became the title for the album, is a tribute to Nic and Chris' father, who died from cancer in 2004 (http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/10/17/1097951560187.html). Although this tragic event greatly affected every member in the band and made recording "Shine On" challenging, the album itself has a general theme of hope. The title track was written by Nic Cester from the perspective of his late father encouraging those who survive him to "shine on." Many songs on the album ("Come On Come On," "Bring It On Back," "Stand Up," "Holiday," "All You Have To Do") are primarily about overcoming adversity and challenge.
The album also features some of the first love songs ("Skin And Bones," "Eleanor") the band has included on their major album releases. These songs indicate a growth in Jet's lyrical style and a growth in their portrayal of women in their songs.
The band played a series of shows during the Big Day Out festival in Australia and New Zealand, alongside rock bands Tool, Muse, The Killers, and My Chemical Romance. Jet played their Rip It Up Oz tour in late May and June 2007 which was supported by Channel V. Tickets went on sale on March 23, 2007.
In 2007, Jet released a new song for the Spider-Man 3 soundtrack titled "Falling Star". They also released a song "Rip It Up" for the TMNT soundtrack.
Band Members are: * Nic Cester – rhythm & lead guitars, lead vocals (2001-present) * Cameron Muncey – lead & rhythm guitars, backing vocals (2001-present) * Mark Wilson – bass, keyboards, piano, harmonica (2002-present) * Chris Cester – drums, percussion, tambourine, guitar, backing vocals (2001-present)

#86. Hoobastank
Biggest Hit of the 00s: The Reason
Biggest Album of the 00s: The Reason
Other Singles from the 00s: Crawling In The Dark, Running Away, Remember Me, Out Of Control, Same Direction, Disappear, If I Were You, Inside Of You & Born To Lead.
Biography of the 00s: Hoobastank is a rock band best known for their crossover hit "The Reason" (2004) and by their continued success in the modern rock market. Hoobastank formed in the Los Angeles County suburb Agoura Hills in 1994. According to drummer Chris Hesse, vocalist Doug Robb had known guitarist Dan Estrin for some time before competing against him in a high school battle of the bands competition and subsequently, they decided to form a band. They then recruited Markku Lappalainen and Hesse to form Hoobastank, which at the time was spelled Hoobustank (pronounced the same way as "Hoobastank"). In an interview with Launch Yahoo!, Doug Robb said the name had no particular meaning: "You're going to ask me what it means. It doesn't mean anything. And it's really cool, it's one of those old high school inside-joke words that didn't really mean anything." Rob Bourdon, Mike Shinoda, and Brad Delson of Linkin Park attended the same high school, Agoura High School, as the members of Hoobastank.
Hoobastank started playing gigs in their local area and recorded a self-released album in 1998 called They Sure Don't Make Basketball Shorts Like They Used To. It featured a unique saxophone section headed by Jeremy Wasser, who executive produced said album and recorded the Summer Romance saxophone solo on Incubus' S.C.I.E.N.C.E. album. By this stage, Hoobastank had developed a strong reputation in Southern California. This attracted interest from Island Records, who subsequently signed the band in 2000. The band's reputation continued to grow on tours with the similar sounding band Incubus.
They covered a variety of songs, such as Rod Stewart's "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" and Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun."
Hoobastank released their self-titled debut in November 2001. The first single was "Crawling in the Dark" which was a breakthrough hit reaching #68 on the Billboard Hot 100, #3 on the modern rock chart, #7 on the mainstream rock chart and #1 on an MP3.com download chart in early 2002. The second single "Running Away" was even more successful reaching #44 on the Billboard Hot 100, #2 on the modern rock chart, #9 on the mainstream rock chart and #3 on the MP3.com download chart. The Hoobastank album went platinum on the back of these hits and reached #25 on the Billboard 200 album charts and #1 on the Billboard Heatseeker chart. The album also achieved recognition internationally with the album touring in Europe and Asia in support of the record. "Remember Me" the third single was a moderate hit reaching #23 on the modern rock charts and #9 on the mainstream rock charts. Their song "Losing My Grip" was featured on the soundtrack for the movie The Scorpion King.
The band entered the studio in 2003 with producer Howard Benson who has produced records by P.O.D., Cold and The Crystal Method. However, recording was disrupted for a month when Dan Estrin was seriously injured in a freak minibike accident in August. Estrin had recovered by October and the band headed off on a Nokia Unwired Tour with the All-American Rejects and Ozomatli in November.
Their second album The Reason was released in December 2003.It showcased a harder-edged vocal performance from Robb. The single "Same Direction" was made available for download on the band's website. Doug Robb says on the band's website: "A lot of it is about asking questions or questioning all that people see. It's not all about religion. "Out of Control" is about that and about opening your eyes after being blinded by being devoted to anything." "Same Direction" would reach #9 on the US modern rock chart, #16 on the mainstream rock chart and #16 on a composite world modern rock chart (based on the US, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Canada and Australia).A year later, the Let It Out DVD collected the band's videos.
The title track was released as a single in the first half of 2004. It became a massive hit reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, #1 on the US and world modern rock charts, #1 on a world airplay chart in May 2004 and #10 in Australia. The song was also played during the final episode of Friends
In Canada, it spent 20 weeks at the top, setting a new record for most weeks at No. 1.
The Reason received a new lease of life on the US album charts, reaching #3 on the Billboard 200.
The band's international profile was increased by a support slot on Linkin Park's Meteora world tour in early 2004.
Their third album Every Man for Himself was released in May 2006 and debuted at #12 on the Billboard chart. Three singles, "If I Were You", "Inside Of You" and "Born To Lead" have been released so far, all of which have fared poorly on the Rock charts. Despite this, the album has been certified Gold. On a 2005 co-headlining tour with Velvet Revolver, the band received a chilly reception from some audiences and rumors of a feud between Robb and VR frontman Scott Weiland were soon filling Internet message boards. "If I Were You," addressed the whole affair.
As of early 2007, Hoobastank toured in America, Asia, Australia and South Africa.
The band went out to tour South Africa late April/early May for two days. They are now back in the states, working on their fourth album which is rumoured to come out late 2008.
