Well, the rapid turn over on top continues, but first let's look at the five new entries. German chanteuse Yvonne Catterfeld enters with her 5th Top 50 single; her first in nearly a year. This time she is in a duet with Eric Benet. I don't think this will match the performance of her first hit, "Du Hast Mein Herz Gebrochen" which hit #7, but it should have a good run all the same.
Next up is the song that has ruled the French charts for the last couple weeks. Harkening back to last year's German hit "Schnappi" now we have "Le Papa Pingouin". Certainly a novelty hit, it should be around on my chart for a little while at least. If you can check out the video, it's so cute! Another German enters this week with his first hit in about a year. Alexander enters with the first single from his latest album. This marks his 4th chart appearance. His most success appearance was his last, when he went to #7 with Sabrina Weckerlin with the German/English hit "Alles/All I Ever Want". It's a good week to be German as the song that comes in at #40 is from this year's Eurovision entry from Germany. Texas Lightning, a 1950s American Country throw-back, enter with "No No Never". This is the second Eurovision song of the season to chart, following Atomik Harmonik's second place Slovenian entry, "Polkaholik". The top entry of the week goes to a remake by one of the US's preeminant r&b singers. This marks Mary J. Blige's return to the chart after nearly 4 years. "One" featuring U2 could easily be one of her biggest hits. Previously she has hit the chart three times: "Family Affair" #3, "No More Drama" #16, and "Rainy Dayz" #6. And believe it or not, this is the first time that U2 has ever appeared on my chart. After over 20 years of recording, it's about time!
The Top 10 continues to be crowded with very strong songs, so nothing new cracks the 10 this week. Westlife move up to #5 giving them their first Top 5 single. Kelly Clarkson holds onto #4 for the 4th week. It's still a strong song and could be around a while yet. Will Young leap frogs over Kelly to land at #3 with "Who Am I", with his 11th Top 5 single in a row, and his 18th Top 50 single overall. With a bullet, DMC and Sarah McLachlan slide back to #2 after only a single week on top. This marks DMC's second Top 10 single. His first was nearly 20 years ago when he hit #9 in the fall of 1986 with "Walk This Way" with Run DMC & Aerosmith. At #1 for the fourth time overall is Wilfred LeBouthillier with "Avec Toi". It was only a matter of time before this took over. With Wilfred ascending to the top, this marks three Canadian artists in a row to top the chart. While I haven't checked back yet, it would be safe to bet this is a first. This is Wilfred's 8th single to chart overall. Below is his chart history so far...
- Amène-Toi Chez Nous #1 (only song in Top 50 history to debut at #1)
- Le Vieux Loup de Mer #6
- Le Balade de Jean Batailleur #8
- T'es Mon Amour, T'es Ma Maîtresse (with Annie & Suzie Villeneuve) #10
- Je Ferais Tout #1
- L'important C'est d'Aimer #1
- Si Demain (Turn Around) (w/Marie-Élaine Thibert) #18
- Avec Toi - #1
