It's a familiar story, that's a 6th week at #1 for Naomi Sharon with "Nothing Sweeter". If she can get to a 7th it'll be pretty rarified air, but she'll have to contend with Madison Beer whose "Make You Mine" is now sitting pretty at #2. Kali Uchis is bumped down to #3 while Sheryl Crow & Justice hold their #4 & #5 from last week. sleepmakeswaves don't chart often but when they do, they make it count. Their 3rd entry now gives them a clean sweep of 3 top 10 hits, as "Super Realm Park" rises to #9. They're not alone, as Little Guilt also climb into the top 10, with debut entry "freakshow" introducing them to these new heights.
NEW ENTRIES
2023 was a good year for Laufey I would say. Going from nothing to quite something with two big hits in quick succession. She's moving forward with this momentum to score a third entry with the dramatic build of "Goddess" in at #19.
We love to see an artist keep plugging away and then making a big breakthrough, or at least I'm sure Madison Beer does. Anyway maybe now is the time for Northlane. They've never made the top 20 before but are quickly starting to accumulate entries, with two for the year now and four overall. It comes with promise as it's their highest ever debut at #25 for "Afterimage". The song also features someone called Ian Kenny who I'm pretty sure has never charted before. Certainly not 21 times before.
Lastly we have a band that never had the chance to really plug away at it because they literally hit #1 on their second ever week on the chart. This is such a peculiar record that I have to report my findings. If we exclude the weirdness of 2008, then this is a record shared by Kamasi Washington, Highasakite and our last debutants Husky. They've had a quiet few years but they're back in business with 7th entry "How To Forget" at #36.
