CHART NOTES
Fanny Lumsden, an award winning contemporary country singer from Australia tops this week's chart with her single "When I Die." The song comes from her upcoming album Hey Dawn to be released on August 4. For the first time that I can remember, both this chart and my Country 5 + 5 chart have the same #1 song at the same time. Fanny last hit this chart back in 2021 with "Dig" which peaked at #4. The video for this #1 song appears at the top of this post.
We have three songs making a debut on the chart.
At #15 we got country singer Jason Aldean, whose hit "Try That In A Small Town" makes its debut at #15. For reasons of horrible political correctness, the song was recently banned from the CMT Network. As a result, sales surged and the song got my attention as did many others. It topped the iTunes and Amazon digital sales charts this past week. The song is also #1 on the Billboard Country Music chart and debuts at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
It's a great song. God Bless America!
From the heart of America to Cambodia by way of California, we have indie band Dengue Fever, who has amassed a fan following from all over the world with their blend of Cambodian rock n roll, surf rock, jazz, African and alternative stylings to their music fronted by female singer and Cambodian immigrant Chhom Nimol. She sings many of the band's songs in her native Khmer tongue. Dengue Fever has released at least 6 albums with a 7th on the way this coming September. "Silver Fish", their second single from the upcoming Ting Mong album makes it chart debut at #19. They were last on my chart in 2012 when "Cement Slippers" went to #1 and "Uku" to #4 I think.
The last debut at #20 is The Goo Goo Dolls and O.A.R. cover of the Tom Petty song "I Won't Back Down." It's a good cover of the classic original. We'll see how high it goes.
