So glad Britney's back, and she and Elton are sounding great together! Big play - the Friday effect is going to be very kind to this on my chart next week.

How did they manage to recycle the melody from Tiny Dancer and make the song worse?
It's not bad, but not good either. Slight play. I probably won't chart this one.

While not as good as last yearʻs "Cold Heartʻ, Elton Johnʻs latest re-make of a classic song is good. It has charted for me, and more importantly it made it to the Billboard Hot 100. It already beat the original track "Tiny Dancer" on the Hot 100 where that only peaked at #41... "Hold Me" got up to #6.... Yes, the Hot 100 is flawed, but it is still considered one of the industryʻs bibles...

And Cold Heart only got to #7 - largely because pop radio couldn't figure out if it wanted to play a 74 year old performer when it should have been a no-brainer. It would have gone higher had radio been on board from the beginning. And this still shows that radio has clout on the Hot 100 even if songs that don't make the Top 15 on radio can't likely make the Hot 100 anymore without heavy streaming numbers.

For the longest of time, anyone who is considered "old" (I have no idea where that age cut-off is), are not readily played on contemporary hits formatted radio. As we all know a lot of longtime veteran artists are still putting out new music, but radio and perhaps streaming don't pay too much attention to their music. And while I don't have anything against Britney Spears, is she considered to be "old" today? In the end, tossing both radio and streaming aside, I think a song truly makes it when you hear it at the shopping mall and at your favorite grocery store sound system. Nothing like "Hold Me Closer" when shopping for groceries.

Elton and Britney being on Top 40 pop is an anomaly to their programming. Sia is also a case in point at age 46 but I think her audience for Unstoppable seems to be more Top 40 AC than pop.
