The bottom half of the chart continues to be very slow, although it has picked up the pace considerably from last week when there were only two songs bulleted in the bottom half! Having started back at school and taking classes, there has been little time to download new songs to replace the songs that have been hovering around the bottom of the chart for the past few weeks. However, there are now a ton of songs bubbling under, so the bottom of the chart should be cleaned up within the next couple weeks. The four chart debuts this week are all from chart veterans. Entering first at #47 is Liz Phair with "Everything to Me", her first chart entry since her Top 20 "Extraordinary". Entering at #43 with their third single, "All About Us", t.A.T.u hope to make this their third Top 10 single as well. Their biggest, "All The Things She Said" made it to #3. Melanie C. continues her recent chart success by blasting onto the chart at #37 with her latest single, "First Day of My Life". She's also shooting for her third consecutive Top 10 single. The highest debut of the week goes to Liberty X. While this is only their fifth chart single, they have reached #1 twice, first with "Being Nobody", and then with its follow-up, "Jumpin'".
The biggest mover goes to Robbie Williams who takes his latest, "Trippin'" up 9 places to land at #31 in its third week. A close second goes to Gorillaz who jump 8 to land at #15 in only their third week on the chart with "Dare". Expect to see that in the Top 10 in short order.
Rachel Stevens is enjoying herself in the Top 10 this week with two singles back to back. "So Good" slides down to 10 this week while "I Said Never Again" moves up to #9. Émily collects her third Top 10 in a row this week as "Où Sont les Femmes?" moves up to #8. She only needs to climb one place higher to match the peak of her highest charting single, "Légende Urbaine". Fellow Star Académie Alum, Marie-Mai has her biggest hit of her career as "Encore Une Nuit" holds onto #5 for the second week. Rob Thomas reliquishes the top spot this week, sliding all the way down to #4. He makes room for two strong singles by chart veterans. Sugababes, who are on their 9th chart single, all of which have made the top 10, are hoping to collect their 4th #1 single as "Push the Button" races up to #3 in its third week. The Babes face strong competition from the song at #2, Sheryl Crow's "Good Is Good", which this week now becomes her highest charting single of her career. She would love to have her first #1,a nd came incredibly close this week, but was narrowly beaten out by Éric Lapointe, who takes "La Bartendresse" back to #1 afte a five week absence. I don't see him holding on for a fourth week, though, with the two strong songs right behind him. In addition, the new Will Young download becomes available on Monday. With his immense popularity on my chart, his new single may throw a wrench into the plans of the women at #s 2 & 3. We'll see next week.
