For the second week in a row, it's good to be Rachel Stevens. "So Good" continues to climb, reaching #4, the highest position ever for Rachel. In addition, "I Said Never Again" is the biggest mover for the second straight week, flying up 15 places to land at #20. Could Rachel possibly have two songs in the Top 10 at the same time in the coming weeks??
This week sees three new songs break onto the chart, all from veteran acts. First at #47 is the 11th chart single for Robbie Williams, "Trippin'". Robbie holds the dubious distinction of having the most chart hits without ever reaching the top. His best performances were with "Angels" and "Feel", both of which spent multiple weeks at #3. Robbie's last chart single, "Misunderstood" became his first to miss the Top 20, peaking at a lowly #47.
The second new song comes in 11 places higher at #36. It's the 5th single for Gorillaz, "Dare". It enters at "Feel Good Inc" falls off the chart this week after spending 19 weeks on the chart and reaching #10. It was their second Top 10 appearance, having reached #10 with "19-2000" back in March 2002.
The highest new entry is the long awaited new single from the Sugababes. "Push the Button", their 9th chart single enters way up at #21, which puts them in a three-way tie for second highest debut of the year with Sheryl Crow's "Good Is Good" and Atomik Harmonik's "Turbo Polka/Brizgalna Brizga". It seems to be a poplular number. The Sugababes places three singles from their last CD "Three" on top of the chart, "Hole In The Head", "Too Lost In You", and "Caught In A Moment". They should be in striking distance of the top within a few weeks.
Withing the Top 10 this week, there is little movement over all. Sheryl Crow has the lone new song enter at #7. This marks her 4th Top 10 single. Éric Lapointe continues his assault to reclaim the top of the chart this week, moving up to #3. If he manages to slide back to #1, he'll become the first artist to have reached #1 and fallen out of the Top 5 to return to the top. Missy Elliott slips from the top this week, relinquishing the top to fellow American Rob Thomas. This marks the 4th North American in a row to control the top. To find a longer string of North American acts to control the top, you have to go back to Decembe 01 through April 02 when No Doubt, Jennifer Lopez f/Ja Rule, 'N Sync f/Nelly, Céline Dion and Toya dominated the top with "Hey Baby", "Ain't It Funny", "Girlfriend", "A New Day Has Come", and "No Matta What (Party All Night)". With Rob reaching the top, this marks the first American male to reach the top since Elvis Presley vs. JXL reached the top with "A Little Less Conversation" back in July 2002. To find the last truly solo American male to reach the top, you have to go back to January 2001 when Billy Gillman spent a lone week on top with "Oklahoma".
What will happen next week? Come back and see...
