Never in a million years would I have expected Kid Rock to get a #1 on your chart. When you told me your next #1 was embarrassing I thought it was gonna be like Eiffel 65 or something. If it makes you feel better, R. Kelly sadly once had a #1 for me (but as a featured artist - so I was easily able to remove his name from my website, but it still happened and it sucks). I think the song is f*cking horrible, I never liked Kid Rock, and the one song of his I did like, I only liked because of Sheryl Crow and never listen to it anymore because it was incredibly overplayed (yes, I'm talking about "Picture"). I will say though I really like and appreciate the message about being true to yourself and not to try to "fit in" to what everyone else is into. I've never had a song go to #1 in an attempt to fit in, but I have charted songs I wasn't crazy about just because they were "cool" among my peers. The two examples that immediately come to mind are Shawnna's "Gettin' Some", which the "popular" girls in my 8th grade gym class always sang and I tried to get into it in an attempt to be like them. I actually did find the song a little catchy, but I was charting it more to look "cool" then because I genuinely enjoyed the song. I mean Christ almighty the biggest band for me at that time was Pearl Jam so Shawnna was VERY out of character for me. But that one only peaked at #30. A more recent example - which did even worse, one week at #38 and then dropped off - is Ariana Grande's "Thank U Next". I never liked or hated that song and thought it was just there, I don't wanna go too in depth about what made me try to get into that song more in an attempt to fit in, but those in the Messenger chat probably know the story already. A week after I debuted it I was like "f*ck this" and dropped it off, and because of said situation a song that I thought was just okay at first, I now f*cking hate with the burning of a thousand suns and is now one of my most hated songs ever. But yeah, don't listen to shit because people make you feel like you have to. f*ck 'em.

Sorry
But yeah, I did like the song. I can’t lie about that. While I wouldn’t say I charted or made songs go number one to fit in (because the only people who saw my chart ever would be other chart nerds. People in my real life didn’t lol), I did listen to Kid Rock and others, in an attempt to fit in but also to try to understand, what it is people are loving about this? Idk. It might make sense later that it turns out, I wasn’t straight 😂😂😂 maybe that’s what it was? Who knows. But yeah, something about Cowboy sounded appealing to me at the time.
