Which artists on your chart have had the most #1's but none were on their own; that is, every single one of their #1's was a collaboration with someone else?
For me, it's now a tie between two legendary Hall of Fame artists who made it big with their own music, but in their later careers, have done multiple collaborations.
It's Santana and Elton John, each with 6 #1's.
Santana's #1's have been collaborations with artists as diverse as Rob Thomas, Michelle Branch (x2), Chad Kroeger, Steven Tyler, and The Product G&B. Indeed, most of Carlos Santana's chart appearances for me have been collaborations with other artists as has much of his career from "Supernatural" on. The highest with no outside collaborations and just the core Santana band was "Anywhere You Want To Go", which got #13 for me from the original line-up reunion album "Santana IV".
Elton John had several appearances in the first two decades of my chart, mostly on his own. However, it's his late-career resurgence with collaborations that has really been shining for me, including collaborations with Taron Egerton, Ozzy Osbourne, U2, Rina Sawayama, Dua Lipa and Eddie Vedder. It shouldn't be surprising that three of said songs appear on his album "The Lockdown Sessions" as such collaborations are the premise of the album! He has had two solo top 10 hits, both in the mid-2010's: "Home Again" and "Looking Up".
You'd expect this to possibly happen in the world of EDM, as most of the tracks I chart in said genre are collaborations between a DJ and a vocalist. Indeed, two such DJ's that have had multiple #1's for me do qualify here.
Kygo has had three #1's on my chart; each of them was a remix of a legendary diva's classic hit: Whitney Houston, Donna Summer and Tina Turner.
Swedish House Mafia have had 2 #1's on my chart, one with vocals by John Martin and the other with vocals by The Weeknd (whose other #1 on my chart was solo).
