20. Bleed The Freak (1990)I first heard this and “Sea Of Sorrow” (which was #38) in 2018 when I was vetting out AIC songs for the grunge episode of The Book Club. Funny enough, both songs ranked higher than the song I ended up playing – “I Know Somethin’ (‘Bout You)”, which was #48. I love the dark, epic feel this one has and this is one of Layne’s best vocal performances ever. Also can we take a moment to acknowledge how FREAKING SEXY Jerry looks on the single cover?!?! 😍😍😍😍😍😍 19. Sunshine (1990)When I did an episode of The Book Club spotlighting “Facelift” in 2019, this was an instant highlight for me. Parts of it actually remind me a little bit of Mother Love Bone. This was about Jerry’s Mom, Gloria Jean Cantrell, who died of cancer in 1987. RIP. 18. We Die Young (1990)What a debut single! A heavy, kickass track. And don’t even get me STARTED on Jerry in this video. I’ll let this GIF speak for itself. 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 17. Dam That River (1992)Another heavy badass song! I think the story behind this one is funny too. When I get in an argument with someone, get a coffee table thrown at me, and get a concussion, the first thing that comes to my mind is generally NOT “Gee, this would make a good song!” But apparently that was what came to mind for Jerry. 16. Rooster (1992)One of the first AIC songs I ever heard. Although I think the other Dirt singles are better, this is still excellent. And the music video (which features Jerry’s father) is very well done. COMING UP: 11. Jerry’s first solo single ever, taken from the 1996 Jim Carrey movie “The Cable Guy”. 12. Another movie song! This is the other Alice In Chains song from the 1993 movie “The Last Action Hero”. 13. My favorite song on Degradation Trip, and the song that caused me to say on The Book Club that Jerry Cantrell’s episode was my favorite since “The Soundgarden Club” special from 2019. 14. WHAT’S MY DRUG OF CHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 15. This 1996 single was actually nominated for a Grammy – but lost to “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” by Smashing Pumpkins.

15. Again (1995)Like this album’s first single “Grind” (which is still to come), I used to think this one was pretty good but not their best, but now it’s a HUGE favorite of mine. I love that riff, super heavy! And I know I’m going to sound like a broken record but DOES JERRY LOOK SEXY IN THIS VIDEO OR WHAT 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 14. Junkhead (1992)My favorite album track from Dirt! This one was always a huge favorite of mine, and I love this Lollapalooza performance from 1993 (and no, I’m not just saying that because Jerry is shirtless ): 13. Locked On (2002)Such a great song, how this wasn’t a single is beyond me. My favorite song on Degradation Trip and my third favorite of his solo career ever. 12. What The Hell Have I (1993)I first heard this one on the 1993 Yearbook episode of The Book Club back in 2017 and loved it instantly. In fact I believe even back then I considered this my favorite from that episode. Excellent song and super underrated. 11. Leave Me Alone (1996)Jerry’s first solo single! This song is the reason why I paid $35 for The Cable Guy soundtrack on vinyl a couple months ago. Yes, I literally spent $35 on one song. To be fair though, there are other songs on the soundtrack that I like, like “Hey Man Nice Shot” by Filter and “Standing Outside A Broken whatever” by Primitive Radio Gods. But let’s be real – I wouldn’t have bought the soundtrack if it weren’t for this song. Like “What The Hell Have I”, I first heard this in 2017 on a Yearbook-themed episode of The Book Club – but this time it was the 1996 episode. I loved it in 2017 but I love it like ten times more now. An excellent and criminally underrated song. And I’m sorry, I have to fangirl over him again. HE’S WEARING A BLACK SUIT IN THIS VIDEO AND OH MY GOD HE LOOKS SO SEXY IN IT ERGKWFEL;SREJG;WKETRJGEOIJDFGROIELWR 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 COMING UP: 8. FreakyFlyBry’s favorite Alice In Chains song. 9. The first Alice In Chains song I ever heard. 10. Literally my favorite song of the last 20 years and I honestly don’t think that’s an exaggeration. Also the highest appearance for a Jerry solo song.

10. Atone (2021)It all started on July 7, 2021. Jerry posted on his Instagram the first of almost a month’s worth of cryptic black and white posts of what appeared to be lyrics of a new song. All of us in the Facebook messenger chat expected it to be out by the end of that week. It wasn’t. Fast forward the following week, same thing. Eventually I got so annoyed and impatient that I threatened to give up if it wasn’t out by the end of the month, and I wrote and recorded a future #1 M4B Radio Top 40 hit about how long Jerry was taking to release the song (“Left On Read”). Then, on July 29th, any annoyance and impatientness I had went completely out the window. The song was released in Australia a few hours before the video premiered here, and Pipa was able to find it while I was at work. I went on my lunch break that day to find a swarm of messages on my phone, from Unkie telling me to “Check the chat ASAP, “Atone” is out”, to FreakyFlyBry saying the song sounded up there with AIC’s 90’s classics, to Pipa saying it was worth the wait and it kicks ass. I put my headphones in on full blast and listened to the song in the break room at my work, and for the next four minutes and 13 seconds my ears were in heaven. Since then it debuted at #1 on my chart and spent 10 weeks there. It has become one of my biggest chart hits ever and honestly one of my top 5 favorite songs I’ve charted ever. It has become an instant classic and I just love everything about this from the epic build up to the iconic, cinematic video where - yes - Jerry looks insanely hot. Textbook definition of legendary and iconic. 9. Man In The Box (1990)This song was my introduction to Alice In Chains. I heard it for the first time in early 2006 on a 90s rock station on Launch (for those who don’t know or remember, Launch was basically Yahoo’s version of Pandora back in the day). I loved it instantly, I thought Jerry’s guitar riffs were heavy and badass, I thought Layne’s voice was so powerful and cool, I loved it. While I’ve grown to prefer 8 other songs of theirs, this will always remain one of their biggest bangers ever. Also, let’s take a moment to appreciate my favorite Jerry GIF ever: 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 8. No Excuses (1994)“Man In The Box” was my first AIC song, but if I recall, this was my second. Definitely a different, more radio friendly vibe than MITB. This showed me early on how much variety the band has, and even though I never heard this song until 2006, it oddly has a nostalgic sound to me if that makes any sense. It was also nice to hear this song at the airport the moment Unkie and I entered Seattle in 2018. Really set the tone for the rest of our experience there. COMING UP: 5. Jerry did most of the band’s songwriting, but this is a song that Layne did all on his own, and Jerry said that he was very proud of him. 😍😍😍 6. The music video for this one was featured in “The Nona Tapes”. 7. Many people consider this one of the most iconic opening tracks ever - and rightfully so!

7. Them Bones (1992)
One of their heaviest songs ever! This is so badass and a perfect opening track on Dirt. And Jerry in this video?!?!?! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
6. Grind (1995)
I first heard this one around like 2010ish and I thought it was good but not one of my favorites. Then something happened - I watched The Nona Tapes. The Nona Tapes was a mockumentary that the band did to promote their self-titled 1995 album. It stars Jerry as a failing journalist named Nona Weisbaum interviewing and flirting with the rest of the band. It also had clips of the band goofing off, and Sean Kinney for some reason is a drunk clown. It’s legendary, it’s iconic, and actually a huge reason why my Jerry artist obsession began. I always had a little crush on him that goes back to the Black Gives Way To Blue era, but seeing the clips of him being silly in the documentary (especially the “I’m the man in the box! GET IT?!” part) made me grow to love him the way I also love Chris Cornell. Also, the music video for this song is in the documentary. It’s a pretty cool video. It has dogs, geezers, and most importantly – JERRY LOOKING SUPER FREAKING GORGEOUS!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 The song itself actually started growing on me even before all of this, it’s a kickass underrated rock song, but the Nona Tapes and Jerry mode are what sealed the deal and helped make this become my 6th favorite Cutie Cantrell song.
Oh, and since I talked about it so much, this is the Nona Tapes.
“Do you feel misrepresented as a drummer?” “No, I hit things with sticks.”
I. con. ic.
5. Angry Chair (1992)
When I first heard this song I thought it was good but not great. But over the last few years it has immensely grown on me. I just remember hearing it out of the blue one day and being like, “Um this is a banger.” One of their most iconic songs ever for sure, and I thought it was so cute when Jerry said he was proud of Layne for writing this.
COMING UP: 3. “This facility cannot accept: DIRT” 4. The music video for this one reminds me a little bit of Soundgarden’s video for “Spoonman”, with the pictures of each band member.

4. Heaven Beside You (1995)I first heard this back in 2010 on - believe it or not - my old heavy metal show called The Awesome Show. For those who don’t know what that is, long story. For those who do know you’ll know that I took a lot of requests. And one day someone in the chatroom requested this. I thought it was so different from the other AIC songs that I was familiar with at that point but I loved it. I love Jerry’s vocals on this one and I really love the music. Ugh and he’s such a cutie in the video!! But he’s even cuter in the video for… 3. Down In A Hole (1992)Another one I first heard around 2009-2010ish. Like are you kidding me right now. WHERE DO I BEGIN ON WHAT A f*ckING MASTERPIECE this is. Layne and Jerry sound so good together here and I love the slower sound. And I really hate sounding like a broken record but JERRY IN THIS VIDEO IS SO FREAKING SEXY I CAN’T EVEN UGH ELWJRNN;$3&KDKTNGNKSLLD COMING UP: The top 2

2. Over Now (1995)
I don’t remember how I first discovered this one, but I first heard it back in May 2019, and loved it instantly. I do love the MTV Unplugged performance which was the version that was released as a single, but I prefer the studio version from the self titled album. I love the epic feel to it. Jerry’s vocals are amazing and I love his guitar playing, although the song itself is also a little sad because Jerry himself has said he wrote this about knowing the end of the band was in sight with Layne’s increasing drug issues. Just an excellent and criminally underrated AIC song.

1. Would? (1992)
The moment I decided to do this list, I knew this was going to be #1. I first heard this sometime between 2008-2010 and I loved it instantly. One thing that AIC are very well known for are the harmonies between Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell, and no song to me has a better example of that than this one. An epic, iconic song with an equally epic, iconic video (that yes, Jerry looks very hot in 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍). “Man In The Box” may have been the song that put them on the map, but to me this is the one that made them become superstars. My favorite Alice In Chains song and one of my favorite songs of all time.
Hope you all enjoyed this list as much as I did, and remember… STREAM BRIGHTEN OCTOBER 29TH!!! 😃
