For women in country music, being young, being on a Nashville based label, and having a good promo team seems to be more important than having talent.
Most 40+ female country stars have had a tough time gaining traction again on Country radio once they have been gone for a while. Martina McBride and Gretchen Wilson have both struggled to get any significant airplay for their comeback singles. Carrie Underwood's star status has faded a bit as well.
Reba and Dolly are two of the few female country singers who have been able to stay relevant into their golden years, and even they don't get much airplay.

Yeah, I see Reba and Dolly being part of many awards shows, yet, if they're so sought after, why radio doesn't support them by playing their songs? It's sad. In the last year, women have increased their presence on radio (in country) so that's something at least.
