The Killers (and Brandon Flowers' solo releases by association) are, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest rock bands since the inception of recorded music. I don't mean just right now. And I'm not using the term "greatest" loosy-goosy. I do actually believe they are in the most elite U2, Green Day, Beatles, Monkeys, Nirvana, Red Hot Peppers category. Brandon Flowers recently said the band lacks the drive, dedication, and understanding of each other to be in this elite group. He feels they will NEVER be as great as Coldplay (WTF) because of their lack of dedication to music. This doesn't seem to be one of those situations where the band sells themselves short because they don't want to seem like sell-outs. This seems to be a true rift in the band. They haven't even begun recording a follow-up to their 2012 album, meaning a late 2016 or more likely a mid-2017 release is most likely if one ever occurs. According to Flowers some of the members haven't spoken in "a few years." Just wondering, do any of the other music-obsessed individuals on this site have insight or opinions on this? Here's an article link: www.theguardian.com/music/2014/dec/23/brandon-flowers-says-the-killers-lack-drive

All I can vote on is my opinion and my opinion is that they are THE greatest. No contest. It's a shame they haven't been more prolific with releases but quality over quantity. I just wish the quantity was slightly higher.

I respect both of your opinions but I honestly think they are one of if not the most overrated band EVER. When Hot Fuss came out nobody on this board would shut up about it and it kept being praised like the second coming of Jesus and I just didn't get it - I like some songs from them like "When You Were Young", "Smile Like You Mean It", and "All These Things That I've Done", but most of their stuff I find bland and nothing special - I was even given shit from someone on MSN for not liking "Somebody Told Me"! I've even tried giving Brandon's solo material a chance but I just find it so boring. I just don't see the - no pun intended - fuss.

I voted for "Decent band but nothing special". I've liked a few of their earlier songs from their first two albums, but I do agree with JessieLou that they are EXTREMELY overrated on here, and I honestly feel the constant praise on here has been partially responsible for turning me off them.

I do understand that feeling. I've had that quite often, both here and elsewhere, where I've thought something to be fine but nothing special, yet the majority of people adore it and just can't stop talking it up and I end up disliking it somewhat just because I don't get it.

I'm like that, that's why being too outspoken about some artists, can lead to hate in others. I think The Killers are really the greatest band ever! I might not have loved Brandon's solo album The Desired Effect, but it's still very good. The Killers' albums are all solid (if we don't count that horrible song Heart Of a Girl).
I blame the other 3 members. Ronnie has Big Talk, and the other two... well excuse me, who are those other two??? They're dragging the band down!! ajjaajajjaja

Brandon is honestly the only member I can actually name... to me, he IS the Killers.

If "Somebody Told Me" and "Mr. Brightside" never existed, I'd consider them one of the better bands of the decade.
