A couple of years ago I got my first true audiophile headphones and amp (Sennheiser HD650 w/ Bravo Audio Amp). Last week I switched out to a new amp (Asgard 2). A lot of my favorite music from the past sounded different. This is especially true of '90s alt rock (eg Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Stroke 9, Better Than Ezra). It is not all good. While "Black Hole Sun," "Save Tonight," and "Shine" sounded more amazing than ever, Stroke 9's "Nasty Little Thoughts" and Better Than Ezra's "Deluxe" albums sounded worse. These were two of my all-time favorite albums. Yesterday I finally listened to my CDs (in lieu of MP3s) of Stroke 9 and Better Than Ezra. And what do you know...they are back to sounding amazing! In contrast, Kylie Minogue's "Let's Get to It," N'Sync's "Celebrity," and Xtina Aguilera's debut album all sounded more horrible even on CD than I ever imagined while LFO and Backstreet Boys sounded pretty great. Anyway...So yesterday was a moment of clarity for me where I realized how crappy my MP3s sound and how a new amp can change my perception of music. I kinda' always knew this because I was told by others, but I had never really done a side-by-side test before with audiophile equipment.
So, the point to all this...has anyone else figured out which albums/songs from the past I really need to be listening to again? What sounds absolutely stunning, as in James Taylor 1970s music in FLAC, and what, conversely, should we avoid if we have audiophile equipment?

dr.loudness-war.info/This site isn't designed to be a guide as to what will sound good on audiophile equipment, but it helps. The lower the score, the worse it is.
