Some insignificant blog recently posted a list of 111-ish Pop songs to get everybody on the dance floor at a wedding reception. MSN just posted a link to it this morning, so I thought I'd post this list here. If you want to see it yourself with screen shots from the music videos (which is how MSN posted it as a slide show), you can follow the link here: www.msn.com/en-us/music/gallery/wedding-music-over-100-pop-songs-to-get-everyone-on-the-dance-floor/ss-AA9X6iy Some of the songs make total sense, as you'll see. Some of them, you'll probably be left thinking, "At a wedding reception? Really?" Actually, what I think the person who wrote this blog did was pull every single uptempo Pop song released in the last 5 years and put it on the list regardless of subject matter. But anyway... I'll put my own commentary to some of the songs within the list. Feel free to post your own opinions...
- Pitbull f/ Christina Aguilera - Feel This Moment
- Usher f/ Juicy J - I Don't Mind - (Really? A song about someone who is okay with his girl being a stripper being played at a wedding reception? I like the song, but totally not appropriate for a reception.)
- Jeremih f/ YG - Don't Tell 'Em
- Selena Gomez & The Scene - Love You Like A Love Song
- Rihanna - Diamonds
- Flo Rida - GDFR
- David Guetta f/ Nicki Minaj & Flo Rida - Where Them Girls At? - (So you've just married the love of your life. You two are the only people each other want to spend the rest of your lives with. Of course the one thing you want is to see your one and only in the middle of the dance floor hollering the hook to a song about chasing women. )
- LunchMoney Lewis - Bills - (Yep. The blog writer totally just picked uptempo current songs and put them on a list. Not hating on the song, but it's a head-scratcher to play at a wedding reception.)
- B.o.B f/ Rivers Cuomo - Magic
- Flo Rida - Club Can't Handle Me
- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis f/ Ray Dalton - Can't Hold Us
- Clean Bandit f/ Jess Glynne - Rather Be
- Tiesto - Red Lights
- Rihanna - Cheers (Drink To That)
- Tove Lo - Talking Body - (Must be one hot, steamy wedding reception, if this song is getting played. I wanna go to that wedding! )
- The Wanted - Glad You Came
- Ariana Grade - Break Free - (Really? The subject of the song is breaking free of a relationship. At a wedding reception?! Come on now!)
- Flo Rida - My House
- Zedd f/ Selena Gomez - I Want You To Know
- DJ Snake & Lil' Jon - Turn Down For What
- Paramore - Still Into You - (If your new spouse's ex is at the reception, consider it a warning sign if this song gets played...)
- Pink - Raise Your Glass
- Neon Trees - Animal
- Rihanna - We Found Love
- Katy Perry f/ Juicy J - Dark Horse - (If you're afraid of the person you've just married, totally appropriate!)
- Bruno Mars - Marry You
- Justin Timberlake - Drink You Away - (I'm sorry...WHAT?!)
- Sia - Chandelier
- Maroon 5 - Animals - (Nothing gets a marriage started off on the right foot like jamming to a song with stalker-y overtones! Who here thinks this marriage will end with a divorce decree that's accompanied by a restraining order? )
- Calvin Harris f/ Florence Welch - Sweet Nothing - (A great, uptempo song sung by a beautiful voice if you don't listen to the lyrics. But she's lyrically taunting her love by saying, "You're giving me such sweet nothing." Not the best song to play at a wedding reception.)
- Katy Perry - Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)
- Robyn - Do It Again
- Carly Rae Jepsen - I Really Like You
- One Direction - Steal My Girl
- Lady Gaga - The Edge Of Glory
- Jennifer Lopez f/ Pitbull - On The Floor
- Neon Trees - Everybody Talks
- Kesha - C'mon
- Panic Is Perfect - Go Go Go
- Bastille - Pompeii - (Uh...okay. A song about something bad happening to you, where the hook repeats "How am I gonna be an optimist about this?" Perfect for a wedding reception! lol!)
- Taylor Swift - Style - (I wouldn't play this at my wedding reception. But only because it's Taylor Swift, not because it's an inappropriate song. )
- Phillip Phillips - Raging Fire
- Natalie La Rose f/ Jeremih - Somebody
- David Guetta f/ Nicki Minaj - Turn Me On - (Another hot, steamy, sexy wedding reception that I want to be invited to! )
- Iggy Azalea f/ Charli XCX - Fancy
- Pitbull f/ Ne-Yo - Give Me Everything
- Jennifer Lopez f/ Pitbull - Dance Again
- Beyonce - 7/11
- One Direction - Best Song Ever
- Lady Gaga & R. Kelly - Do What U Want - (I'm telling you! I want to be invited to the wedding that has these "sex" songs on the reception playlist. I'm down for a sexy, steamy wedding reception! Everybody's hot, sweaty bodies pressed up against each other on the dance floor... Is it just me or is it hot in here all of the sudden? )
- Avicii - The Nights
- Meghan Trainor - Lips Are Movin' - (A song about calling your man a liar and two-faced. Totally appropriate for a wedding reception!)
- David Guetta f/ Rihanna - Who's That Chick?
- Calvin Harris f/ John Newman - Blame - (One of my favorites of the past few months. But I'm not sure it gets my stamp of approval to get played at a wedding reception.)
- Britney Spears - Work Bitch - (Yeah. Okay... )
- Usher f/ Pitbull - DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love
- Capital Cities - Safe & Sound
- Ariana Grande f/ Iggy Azalea - Problem - (Another breakup song. And it's not just a breakup song. It's an "I'm happy we broke up" song. Why at a wedding reception?)
- Matoma f/ The Notorious B.I.G. - Old Thing Back - (I've not heard this song, but judging from the title, this might be along the same lines as "Still Into You" from earlier on the list. I hope your new spouse's ex isn't in attendance!)
- Nicki Minaj - Starships
- Madonna - Living For Love - (From the title alone, perfect for a wedding reception - no sarcasm intended. Based on the lyrical content, not so perfect.)
- Kesha - Die Young - (Conflicted about this one. From the lyrical content, I get why this would be played. But I'm not sure I would want a song referencing premature death to be played at my reception.)
- Nick Jonas - Jealous
- Neon Trees - Sleeping With A Friend - (If you're marrying someone who you started out as friends with and then it turned into romance, this is actually pretty good.)
- LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem
- Pitbull f/ Kesha - Timber
- Demi Lovato f/ Cher Lloyd - Really Don't Care - (Really don't think this should make the playlist at a wedding reception.)
- Pitbull f/ Ne-Yo - Time Of Our Lives
- Flo Rida f/ Sia - Wild Ones
- Jennifer Lopez f/ Pitbull or Iggy Azalea - Booty
- Jessie J, Ariana Grande, & Nicki Minaj - Bang Bang
- Beyonce - Countdown
- Calvin Harris f/ Ellie Goulding - Outside
- Fifth Harmony f/ Kid Ink - Worth It
- Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop
- Katy Perry - Firework
- Becky G - Can't Stop Dancin'
- Katy Perry - This Is How We Do
- Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
- Iggy Azalea - Work
- Ariana Grande & The Weekend - Love Me Harder
- Taylor Swift - Shake It Off
- Pharrell f/ Miley Cyrus - Come Get It Bae
- Maroon 5 - Sugar
- Maroon 5 f/ Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger
- Lady Gaga - Applause
- Kygo f/ Parson James - Steal The Show
- Lady Gaga - Born This Way
- Ed Sheeran - Sing
- Fitz & The Tantrums - Out Of My League
- Walk The Moon - Shut Up & Dance
- Selena Gomez - Come & Get It - (Oooohhhh yeeeeeeaah!!! Another playlist entry for my hot, steamy wedding reception! )
- Pitbull f/ G.R.L. - Wild, Wild Love
- Jason Derulo - Want To Want Me
- Marlon Roudette - When The Beat Drops Out
- Kendrick Lamar - i
- Avicii - Levels
- Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)
- Flo Rida - Whistle - (Maybe to get played as the very last song as the happy couple prepares to make their way to their hotel room for the wedding night festivities... )
- Michael Jackson - Love Never Felt So Good
- Nicki Minaj - Anaconda - (My "sexy wedding reception" playlist is getting long, y'all! Pun possibly intended... )
- Flo Rida - Good Feeling
- Mark Ronson f/ Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk
- Shawn Mendes - Stitches
- MKTO - Classic
- Katy Perry - Birthday
- Becky G - Shower
- Jason Derulo f/ 2 Chainz - Talk Dirty
- Betty Who - Somebody Loves You
- Kelly Clarkson - Heartbeat Song
Like them or not, most of the songs on this list are okay to be played at a wedding reception. But some of them (even songs I like, personally)...I don't know what the person who wrote the blog was thinking! lol!
