What are some songs or artists who have hit #1 on your chart that, if anyone who knows you now were to ask, they'd never believe you had them at #1. This isn't so much a regret but more of a "I can't believe I let that near my chart, let alone #1."
Think of it like if Jessielou once allowed Captain & Tenille at #1 on her chart or FreakyFlyBry's weak moment where Crazy Frog somehow reached #1. Crazy unbelievable moments in your chart's past.
Here are some of mine:
Bryan Adams - When You're Gone
I used to say this was the only song I regretted letting go to #1 because I remember at the time it being such a spur of the moment last minute decision as I was making my chart. Even at the time, I felt it was a weak #1 and I was between songs I really loved so this kind of just flew in because the video came on TV as I was making my chart and for that brief second, I really liked it. Think of it like a song goes to #1 just in time for the Sunday evening Mediabase update but is pushed out for the Monday morning update.
Kid Rock has had three #1s on my chart and for a long time held the record for most #1s for a solo male artist.
To be fair, I still love all three songs: Cowboy, Only God Knows Why and Picture. I just don't like him and he hasn't really done well aside from those three.
Crazy Town - Butterfly
Yeah, believe it. This was their only hit on my chart but it spent 4 weeks at #1.
Nickelback
They once hit #1 on my chart - for two weeks. It was their second hit Too Bad, which followed their #6 peaking hit How You Remind Me. I think those two were their only Top 10s.
Ja Rule
Yep, he once hit #1 too and oddly enough, him and Nickelback had back-to-back #1s. His was with Always On Time but only for one week. He also had a feature credit on Fat Joe's What's Luv? - but that one doesn't seem so strange because that song is still a jam.
Anyone Else But You (from Juno)
At the very beginning of 2008, I was obsessed with the Juno soundtrack for an entire month, listening to it almost daily, sometimes multiple times in a day. It was only fitting, therefore, that my #1 song for that period of time (5 weeks total) was the main song from the soundtrack. There were two versions on it so I made the executive decision to combine both versions into an either/or situation for my chart, so it's credited as by the Moldy Peaches OR Ellen Page and Michael Cera. This is probably the most untraditional recording to ever hit #1 on my chart and was an anomaly. Definitely not a regret but a moment where you'd have to look twice.
Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines
He's pretty much a disgraced singer now after everything since Blurred Lines and even now, I can't listen to Blurred Lines because it's become so tainted but at the time, it was a hot song. The beat still is but I'm incredibly over it and it feels strange to see that it was #1 on my chart and also my pick for #3 song of 2013.
