#8 doesn't really surprise me, since I've heard of men fathering children well into their 70's.
#7 is more of a shock, as I would have thought France had abolished capital punishment altogether by 1977, regardless of what method was used.
#6 is rather misleading; just because a unified secular Italian government didn't exist until 1861, doesn't mean there was no culture of Italy prior to 1861. The only difference is that the states were ruled by the Pope. (It would be like saying France didn't exist before 1789 because it was ruled by kings before the Revolution).
#2 is the most interesting to me. As a kid, I found it very interesting how the word "empire" no longer existed in the name of any country. I first studied world history and ancient civilizations in 6th grade, and I remembered asking my teacher why "empires" existed for all of human history except for the past 70 years (this was in 1998). She was shocked by my question, and told me that one "empire" still existed, the British empire. I wasn't satisfied with that answer, as it is officially known as the United Kingdom (not empire), and because the political power of the queen has been reduced to a triviality.

I knew several of those. I remember in 2012 the media was trying to force Tyler's grandchildren to endorse Obama, and they wouldn't do it.
